User settings and reinstall

Hey all,
For various reasons I would like to do an archive and install of Leopard. I am currently running Sno-Leapord and wish to downgrade the system. When I run the Leopard installer, my concern, is that the secondary radio button for "Preserving User Setting" is greyed out and I am afraid of losing that info. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

you can not choose to preserve user setting when downgrading like this but that does not mean your user data will be erased. it will be moved to the previous systems folder along with everything else. you can get it from there by hand after wards. however, Apple strongly discourages downgrade archive and installs like you are contemplating. it may appear to work but you'll have problems afterwards. the best thing to do is to back up your current SL system (a clone or a TM backup) and do an erase and install of leopard. then copy what you need of your user data from the backup.

I have had to reset my laptop to factory settings and reinstall iTunes. I backed up all my songs and apps and have now put all songs back in to iTunes. However, now i cannot drag songs or apps from my iTunes to my iPhone.
It only gives me the 'no entry' style icon when i drag it across rather than the 'plus' icon to add items to the iPhone.
Any ideas how to get round this or will i have to clear the phone and start again?
Any help would be very appreciated.

When you use the Migration Assistant, what is included in "users," "settings" and "other files"?

I think it's offered as an option at some point during the installation. But you can always start the Migration Assistant at any later point (it's located in Applications/Utilities) - that's the same application.
That's what I did, actually. I did a clean install first and only after everything was up and running did I hook up my old G4 and transferred things over with the help of the Migration Assitant.

Is it possible to export user settings and import into same environment?

I exported a user profile settings into a file and triedd to import saved file into same environment where I exported, but I am getting following error
"Login name already in use"
I followed the same process for restoring groups.Exported groups into a file and imported saved file into same environment, I was successfully restored thr groups.But I am failing to restore the user settings.
Any help or suggestions on this issue is greately appreciated.

Importing into the same environment is not supported.
Instead, you could create all the test users in production with all the roles and then deactivate the user, so they are not usable.
After you overwrite the non-production DBs with the production DB, you could then run a script (you will have to create it first) to activate all the users.

User settings and mobileme account removed upon user logout/login

On several occasions my touchpad settings and format settings (system preferences/international) had suddenly changed.(i.e. "tap to click", "drag" and "drag lock" all changed and so does the format from UK to USA). On these occasions I am also thrown out of my mobileme account and my idisk partitioning is removed. No other keychain setting seems to be affected. I wasn't sure what triggers this, and at first I thought it was due to a run down battery, which somehow changed the settings. However, I just noticed, that when logging out of my user account and back in, the settings are suddenly being changed.
Does anybody have an idea what is going on? This is rather frustrating, having to re-sync my idisk all the time.

You'll need to copy your /Home/Library folder. Make sure you back up first before doing the following. Log out of both your Work and Play accounts. Log in to a third account with administrator privileges. Assuming you are copying from the account called "work" to the account called "play", enter the following in Terminal:
sudo rm -rf ~play/Library (this deletes Play's Library folder.)
sudo cp -R ~work/Library ~play/Library (this copies Work's Library folder to Play's folder.)
sudo chown -R play ~play/Library (this fixes permissions of Play's new Library folder.)

Missing User settings and files after disabling Filevault on Lion

I just installed OS X Lion on my mac and everything worked fine until I disabled the legacy filevault on my system. When the machine rebooted it had wipped out all my settings and files it would seem. After a bit of searching i found my files in the /Users directory. However the files are placed inside a folder called myusername.fvCopy. If I change any settings in my account like removing apps from the dock and reboot the changes haven't taken effect when it boots back up.
I have no idea what to do about this.
Any help is much apprciated.

I fixed it by logging in to a different account and deleteting the broken homefolder via the terminal and renaming the myusername.fvCopy to myusername.

User Settings and System Settings

Which settings are stored at the user level and which settings are stored at the system level? I asked Apple support if it was possible to reset all Mavericks settings to default and retain my apps and data. They suggested I create a new user and transfer my personal files over. I expected this to start with all the settings at default, but I've found that the Network and Energy Saver settings remained the same. What other settings are not set to default when a new user is created?
Also, Apple failed to mention that the new user would have to take ownership of the old user's files. I'm wondering if the command below was the proper way to do so:
sudo find / -user oldusername -exec chown newusername {};

All system-level settings are stored in /Lbrary/Preferences/, including the hidden .GlobalPreferences.plist file.
Can't help with the Unix command, but seriously doubt their advice. Why would you want to create a new user? The normal way to reset user settings is to remove the plist files stored in /username/Library/Preferences/.

Pulseaudio - user settings and microphone auto adjustment

Hi all,
Few questions if I may - I have search the wiki/forum but couldn't find any answers.
When recording my webcam with ffmpeg along with my webcam microphone the recording level of the microphone is automatically adjusted by pulseaudio (I am assuming there) - it actually adjust the recording level of each channel (right/left)
The question there is how do I stop the automatic adjustment?
The second question is if I could have a user specific settings for pulseaudio that will automatically load when the user (on the same machine) log in?

Can't Restore User, Settings, And Files

Hi.
I had a user account with a misspelled "full name" and therefore a misspelled home folder name. I followed apple's directions to change these issues here: Change your OS X account name and home directory name - Apple Support
When I followed these directions and restarted, I lost everything in that user's file structure - desktop items, home folder items, preferences, etc. I essentially got a completely clean account. So as far as I can tell, these directions are pretty crappy.
In addition, the setting changes I make to the account won't stay. My adjustments to the icons in the launcher keep disappearing, as do my changes to track pad preferences, etc.
I have a time machine backup from the night before, but when I try to restore it it will only use a "full backup" from December 5th, which is missing a lot of my work.
Can anyone suggest how I can restore all my stuff?

Archive and reinstall - now all photos gone

I needed to reinstall a new OS on my eMac and so did an archive and reinstall. I did not select keep user settings and now have lost all my photos.
Is there anything I can do about this?

The answer is probably obvious, but I'll ask anyway. Did you make sure you had an up-to-date backup? Hopefully we can help you find and recover the lost music, however, a good up-to-date backup is the most important way to secure your valuable data. If you don't already have one get an external Firewire Hard Disk Drive and clone your entire volume using SuperDuper and keep it updated. (Post back for more info on all this).
Now to your music files. An Archive and Install should preserve your data whether or not you chose to preserve user settings. So follow roam's advice and check the Previous Systems folder and let us know what you find there.

Travel & expenses: Remove User settings option

Hi,
we have implemented Travel & Expense module in Portal using ABAP web dynpro. We are at EP 7.0 EHp2.
Navigation : ESS -> Travel & expenses -> My Trips and Expenses
Here If the User perform Right Click option then he get the option for : " User settings" and if he choose User settings then he further get the option to select the column / tab's to hide or unhide.
So we want to disable the right click option for the user OR at least remove the option of User Settings from User.

Hi Vishal,
as far as I know, the right click cannot be disabled. I have two suggestions:
1. Modify the WebDynpro Application and add the Parameter WDDISABLEUSERPERSONALIZATION = X.
2. Alternatively (this is what we did) you can call the application WD_GLOBAL_SETTING in SE80 and globally disable all user personalization for all applications. This avoids endusers from calling helpdesk because "fields are gone" etc. pretty well...

Share Point 2013 - User Settings not initialised

We are using the SharePoint 2013 server on top of Windows 2012.
We've recently created user profile application service and activated the Site Feed feature.
After that one of our users experiences an annoying thing, she is being redirected from the Home Page to another page that says "Edit user settings" and "User settings not initialized ". No other user is experiencing these issues. Please
help.

According to your post, my understanding is that a spectial user got "Edit User Settings" when visiting a site collection.
I recommend to
remove the user from that site collection completly and then re-add him. You can select Site Settings, under "Users and Permissions", click People and groups. Select the group and user to remove it.
In addition, you need to check the user permission. You can select Site Settings, under "Site permissions", click People and groups. Click Check Permissions, enter the user.

User Settings Attributes Search

Hi,
In SRM 7.0 User Settings I have 2 users and am trying to add a plant. User 1 has company code 0100 and when adding a plant, the drop down search list contains all plants associated with company code 0100. I can successfully add a plant for this user.
User 2 has company codes 0100, 1000, and 1002. When trying to add a plant, the drop down search list only contains the plants associated with 1000 and 1002. I am unable to locate a plant associated with 0100.
Their security access is identical. Any suggestion as to what is causing this is appreciated.

Hi Dhananjay and Bharath,
You are correct that a plant can only be associated with 1 company code. But our users can create carts for multiple company codes and plants.
These 2 users are set up identically except for the fact that one only has a single company code set up in User Settings and the other has 3 company codes. Only the plants related to two of the company codes are retrieved when doing a plant search. This prevents adding a plant for the 3rd company code in User Settings.
I tried looking for an OSS note that might address this, but didn't find anything and thought that the experts out here may have heard of this before and be able to offer some assistance.
