Users can't logon to network wirelessly

I have a classroom with a combination of emacs and pcs wired into the network and an Airport Extreme access point for ibooks and laptops when needed but users cannot login to the ibooks using a wireless connection. I have logged in as administrator and the wireless connection is connecting automatically and works fine, i then log out and then try logging in as a standard user but it doesn't work, the login box just shakes. If i connect a network cable I can log in as a standard user fine, any help muchly appreciated? Apple clients connect to an X server and I use WGM for user account management.

Yes, I did upgrade from Panther to Leopard.
Thank you for your suggestion - I had in fact tried deleting only the files that showed errors in the log. This allowed the samba server to start accepting network logons but didn't stop the this error showing in the log.
So I tried your suggestion and just renamed /private/var/samba to /private/var/xsamba and sat back and watched!
All necessary files were regenerated and just to be sure I re-entered the account passwords, turned file sharing off and on again.
All shares are now accessible from the network other than from a WIN98 machine where if needs a password and no matter what password I use, it rejects it. This may be to do with encryption so I'll look into this later.
The major problem considered SOLVED!

  • Setup a system Users can get to corporate network thru wifi

    Hi everyone,
I may be behind on this...but finally I got a chance to ask.... Currently my manager thinks about to setup a wifi system so that the users can log on the network thru the wireless... There are some questions I have...
1.) Is it a good practice to make a AP to share both public and corporate traffics on a same wifi system (but they can be on different vlans)..? Why or why not?
2.) We have Active Directory for the network authentications... I would like to ask which way can be used to enhance the network security, including user authentications and data encryptions...
3.) Any more concerns I should have? Or what is the best model setup for this wifi system?
Hope you can help or share your opinions...I will really appreciate.

1.) Is it a good practice to make a AP to share both public and corporate traffics on a same wifi system (but they can be on different vlans)..? Why or why not?
Yes.  This has been the cornerstone of wireless.  A single AP, for example, can broadcast CORP and Guest SSID.  And CORP users can login to their accounts via wireless.  Guest users can get diverted to a website and accept the T&C and off they go to the internet.  Guest users do NOT have access to corporate resources.
2.) We have Active Directory for the network authentications... I would like to ask which way can be used to enhance the network security, including user authentications and data encryptions...
Yes you can.  You can even dot DOT1X.
3.) Any more concerns I should have? Or what is the best model setup for this wifi system?
If you don't know what you're doing, then get a reputable systems integrator or else things won't get done right.

A particular network user can't login to a mac in a classrom but other network users can. Then the network user can login to other identical macs in same classroom. Anyone seen this before? It has happen twice. Two different teachers in two different classrooms entering the correct user name and passwords and computer won't allow them to login. Then they try in different computers in same classroom and have no problem login.

Yes. I can login with a test user. And any other network user can login as well to this particular mac. Actually the mac has bootcamp and boots into either mac or windows. The same user entering the same login username and password can login into the windows side, but not the mac side.
I had this same issue last semester in another classroom, another mac and a different teacher. This summer I reformatted and imaged that mac and I asked that teacher to login today to that reimagened mac and she had no problem today doing so.

Then I deactive the SAP* .
I copy a new user "test" in ABAP-side and assign "SAP_J2EE_ADMIN" role to the user "test".
Then I try to logon portal with user "test", but the problem is still there .
Is there any guys had met the problem  ?

  • Non-admin user can not logon to web pages

I setup an iMac, I am the administrator and I set up a non-admin user. I also setup parental controls to their default settings.
The user can log on to their account but when they go to a web page, any web page, that requires a logon, the authentication fails. I can login to the iMac as the administrator and can go to those same pages and try to logon and it works.
I tried disabling parenting controls but it still doesn't work. I don't think that I should have to change any settings to allow a non-admin user to log on to a website, but maybe there is something I am missing...
Any tips or things I should try?

It's recommended to have your Security mode on.
Anyways if you wish to, go to ''''Firefox'''' tab > ''''Options'''' > ''''Options'''' > '''''Security'''''
    and do your custom settings.
Re-installing Mozilla Firefox may fix this problem.

  • Am I right in thinking that you can't extend your network wirelessly with a time capsule unless your base station is an apple one?

My new time capsule will only allow me to extend my network via ethernet cable.
What I really want to do is use it wirelessly as an extension wirelessly.
The option is there (under other options in airport utility) but when I select it and move on it reverts back to create a new network.
    Why is this?
Am I trying to achieve the impossible?
I have an airport express and that be added to my network wirelessly with no issue at all.
    Please help
    Russell

Can I just "join" the network with my time capsule like I have with my airport express?
Apple does not present this option....but, even if they did.....this would be the worst possible option to use for backups.
Can I use my airport express as a base (connected via Ethernet to the router) for my time capsule to extend from wirelessly?
Yes, you can. The AirPort Express would be configured to "create a wireless network"......then.....the Time Capsule could be configured to "extend a wireless network".
It is critically important that the Time Capsule be located where it can receive a very strong wireless signal from the AirPort Express in this type of setup. The more that you have line-of-sight between the AirPort Express and Time Capsule, the better your network performance will be and the faster that backups will occur to the Time Capsule.
A better option in terms of performance would be to connect the Time Capsule to your current modem/router using an Ethernet connection and have the Time Capsule "create" the network. Then, use the Express to "extend" the network.
Here, I am assuming that you have a new Time Capsule.

  • First time MacBook user can't connect to a wireless network

Just got my first mac (mbpro 15) yesterday and can't seem to connect to my wireless network. I can see my network but when I select it, it doesn't connect. Do I have to do anything with my router since this is my first mac? The connection for my airport is showing as an amber color. What can I do to connect my cmputer to the Internet? Thanks

I just got done dealing with this. It took me 2 days and after 5 hours on the phone with Apple and Belkin they could not help me. I found out what to do after reading the forms. Try turning off the security on your router first. Then reset the router. Open the MacBook network preferences go to advanced setting for the airport. Delete your network connection. Now turn off your airport then turn it back on. Find your network again and connect now that the security if off. When this is done restart your MacBook. You should be able to connect now. This worked for me. I did not want to keep my network open so I then added the WPA2 security if you have it or use WPA pick a password and then start the process again. Reset the router. Open the MacBook network preferences go to advanced setting for the airport. Delete your network connection. Now turn off your airport then turn it back on. Find your network again and connect putting in the password this time. Now restart the MacBook and with some luck you should be good to go. I was ready to throw my MacBook out a window before I figured this out. Please let me know if you need more details than this. Good luck.

  • Can't connect to network (wireless)

Hello, I have a Dell Vostro 1500 with an Intel pro 3985 wireless card. The driver that comes with the latest kernel is installed. Running lsmod shows iwl3945.

The wireless card seems to be working, since it detects the network when I run iwlist wlan0 scan:

    KEY=**********
    IP="dhcp"

Running netcfg with the conf gives me: DHCP IP lease attempt failed.
Can anyone help me find out where I'm going wrong and how to fix it? I feel like I'm doing everything right, but nothing works and most of these tools are horrible in telling me what went wrong...

The problem has to do with the dhcp server not on the computer but on the router side.  The router dhcp server is not handing out an address, either because you don't have a dhcp server (or maybe it is not enabled in the router) or because there is a limit on the number of simultaneous users ie. there is a maximum of 2 dhcp clients and you are trying to be the 3rd.
    Hope that helped

  • One user can not map a network drive

                       Hi,
A costumer of mine is trying to map a network drive for an existing user that has always had access to the NSS6000 Network Storage Device. This still works for all other users except this one. It looks like an authentication failure. They connect thru CFIS (which means it's using the active directory).
So far i have troubleshooted the following and ran out of options half an hour ago.
I rebooted the NAS. No luck.
I made a different folder and gave the user access. And tried to connect to that. No luck. (to confirm its not related to the folder security)
I tried to map the drive on a different computer. No luck. (to confirm its not a local computer problem)
I tried to map the drive to another folder on a different server, this worked fine. (to confirm credentials are correct).
I tried to remove the user on the NSS600 and tried to update it. The user reappeared instantly in the user list on the NAS. No luck.
I fear the user table the NSS keeps is corrupted. And i can't find a way to force the NAS to recreate it based on current folder security or active directory users.
Please help, as i am in no mood to reconfigure the entire NAS.
    Kind regards,
    Tim Sars

    Hi,
How did you map the network drive? Manually via GUI? Command? GPP? If you're using one of the above solutions, then try other solutions as a alternative way to check the result.
According to your description, If Windows remains unable to reconnect mapped Network Drive at login, then I would suggest you created a batch file with net use command, use it as an logon script, this provides an alternate way to reconnect drives on
    a re-logon.
    example
    @echo off
    net use * /delete /yes
    net use x: \\server_name\shared_directory_name

  • XP can not logon to network?

After installing winXP my computer reboots, starts in windows and asks for a user password. I did not create any passwords during the install. When I hit the green arrow I get an error message that windows could not log me on to the network. Any ideas would be great. I have re-installed XP twice and have the same problem each time.

  • Users can't log into network

I have just set up an OSX snow leopard server on a mac mini. I have 36 user accounts. All of the accounts were set up at the same time. Two of the imac users cannot access the server. We get a message that it is an invalid password. I tried to change those password of those two users and, but I get a -14120 error. I tried to delete the users accounts and close Workgroup Manager, but they come back when I open Workgroup Manager. I can create new users without any problems.
    Does anyone have a solution?
    Thanks,
    Rich

If you believe this is an OD issue, then enable OD debug logging.  On server and/or client, do this:
    sudo killall -USR1 OpenDirectory
This will create a a new log file in /Library/Logs/DirectoryService called DirectoryService.debug.log.  Beware, this file can be rather large if allowed to continue to collect data.  Try to isolate an occurrence as much as possible to limit the amount of data coming in.
Another good method is to enable ssh on a problem workstation.  Then from a control device SSH into the machine that is failing to permit login and start watching system log, top, and if needed the DS debug log.  Use multiple ssh sessions to view everything you are trying to see.
Note on DS debug.  Apple changed the way to do this after 10.6.  For future versions you can use the odutil command to change logging levels.

  • Users can't login to Groupwise after export

    Hi All
We have a two-node cluster running GW7.01 on Netware 6.5 SP7. As part of our disaster recovery test we've done the following:
    1. Installed netware 6.5 sp7 onto a new server in its own tree.
    2. Installed GW7 on this server, with an identical groupwise system i.e same domain name, etc (only difference is server name, IP, and tree name).
    3. We then exported the NDS/GW objects from the current production tree using the GWport32 utility into the new tree on the new server.
    4. We've restored from a backup tape the PO database file and the accompanying files, the domain database file, and all the files and sundirectories from the ofuser, ofmsg, and offiles directories onto their corresponding locations on the new server.
    5. After getting C00F and D019 errors, we've tried to rebuild the ngwguard.db and the PO by running a standalone GWCheck.
Our problem is that I can login to the new server (edirectory tree) as any user albeit without any password but unable to login to groupwise. I've set and reset passwords in ConsoleOne but I still can't login to groupwise.
We would be very grateful if anyone could tell us what else we need to do.
We're hoping to achieve a situation where in an extreme disaster, we are able to restore mail from tape backups so that users can still logon to this new server and have full access to their mailboxes with ease.
    regards

I would NEVER have use GWPORT32. Why did you?
    1. You have to restore eDirectory in a different way.
    2. If tree is still intact reimporting is bad
    3. IF tree is not intact, you still have to restore eDirectory differently.

My Linksys router has a Network Mode setting, and I had to change it from "Mixed" to "Wireless-G only".  (I would've used N but one of the NICs in my house is too old to support it.)  Anyway, after making this change, Facetime works fine on the phone.  Hope this helps someone else!
