Users HD to SD DVD workflow?

I am editing in HD 1440 flavour and I will be delevering in SD. Philip Bloom the DOP claims to finish his film in HD then export at current settings, then import on a SD timeline let in render then export as mpeg 2.
How does this sound? Is there a differet way, quality is paramount too,
Rgeards
Darren

I have been using the default 90 minutes setting, just too scared to change anything. I have always thought of messing with the settings because many of my projects are 45 minutes or less. So, I took the 90 minute 4:3 default setting, under the quality tab changed the bit rate to 7.7 and the mode to One Pass CBR. What is the One pass CBR, what does that mean? Were these the only settings you changed?
I named the setting the Ian-Brown-best60...

  • Will Procoder 3 work as well as Dan Isaacs HDV -- SD DVD Workflow

    I have Premiere Pro Projects in HDV and I need to get them onto DVD.
    Dan Isaacs HDV --> SD DVD Workflow looks complicated.
    Are there products like Procoder 3 that will get the same results as Dans Workflow with less complication.
    I realize Procoder 3 isn't cheap, but money isn't a problem.
    I just want quality (HDV>SD DVD) conversions with the least amount of work.
    TIA

    > I no longer have access to the debug frameserver plugin in CS3 after installing cs4 on same machine. I saw a similar post and am eagerly awaiting to hear if Dan has any suggestions??
    Sorry... I don't know about that one. Very strange.
    > I cannot use Dan's workflow in CS4
    You can't use DebugMode, but if you export some HD intermediary from CS4 you can run that through the script.
    If you have the Cineform or Matrox HD codecs, you can try exporting with that. You can also try exporting as Lagarith @ 1440x1080i.
    Another alternative that I'm forumating uses MPEG-2 4:2:2 I-frame exported from AME. See
    this thread. (NOTE: This is for PAL I/O... adjust settings as necessary for NTSC).

  • Multiple FCPX projects to one DVD - workflow struggles

    I'm trying to create a dance recital DVD comprised of multiple projects, with the projects being four acts from a performance. I'd like to create a DVD that has a menu that allows the user to choose from the four acts.
    I have one project created for each act, and have added titles and transitions for each of the dance numbers in each act. Because I want each dance to be a chapter, I sent each project to Compressor to add chapters. The chapters are created for each project, but now I'm unsure how to proceed.
    I see how to create a Job Action to burn to DVD, but that prevents me from adding the other projects to the DVD. I have also considered combining the four projects into one large project, but then how do I add a menu that will allow the user to choose between the acts?
    Must I ultimately create the DVD from Compressor (whose interface only an OS 9 user could love)? I'd like to create some graphics with Motion, but I'm not sure how to include them.
    Any help is appreciated.

    I found no way to add the DVD files I created in Compressor to my project in iDVD 7.1.2. Since there is not a newer version of iDVD available at the App Store, it seems that is not a viable solution. Or I'm doing something wrong, which is always a strong possibility. But I've created a number of DVDs in the past using files from iMovie, so I suspect there may be an issue here.
    Adding my DVD files from Compressor to my Toast project was simple. Unfortunately, the chapter markers I created in Compressor were not recognized by Toast; however, Toast allows you to create chapter markers, so I'm doing that there. And creating the markers in Toast is less clunky than doing so in Compressor, so that's preferable anyway.
    So my workflow wound up looking something like this:
    Import video into FCPX
    Create projects for each act, edit, add transitions and titles
    Send each project to Compressor and create DVD video and audio
    Add acts/projects to Toast file, add chapter markers, and create disk image
    I hope this proves useful to someone else.

  • Creating automated email reminders to users every 2 weeks via Workflow 2010 Out of Box approach only

    Hi,
    I have been asked to automate the email reminders to users (every two weeks) from the SharePoint2010 solution.
    I am trying to achieve this via workflow ,but am unable to get the results.
    Req :
    Twice a month the users should get an automated email reminder for a specific task.
    1. On 14th (or last working day in mid month -1) of the month. ( a field "mid month end" captures the date as 15th of the month)
    2. On last working day - 1 of the month. ( a field "month end" captures the date as last day of the month)
    Please let me know how i can achieve this via Out of box functionality. I donot have exp with workflows so a detailed steps guidlines will be very helpfull.
    Regards,
    Guru

    Although you can start a workflow and then pause it for a number of days, I'd feel uncomfortable with that. If the farm crashes, who guarantees that the paused workflows will pick up where they were left off?
    SharePoint does no offer to run a workflow on all items in a list/library -- which I feel is a big draw back.
    The good news is that there is a free 3rd party tool that can run a workflow on all (or specific) items in a list or library.  It's called the
    HarePoint Workflow Scheduler and I love it.
    You can create a view that shows the items that you want to run the workflow on.
    Or, if you know how to write CAML, you can feed the CAML Query right into the HarePoint Workflow Scheduler task.
    At my company we have several sites in production that use the HarePoint Workflow Scheduler with a view.
    So, first, create a SharePoint Designer workflow and define it to run manually.
    Then use the HarePoint workflow scheduler to define a schedule.
    You can define a schedule for the HarePoint tool, like every day, month, week, etc., by just clicking a few boxes.
    Since this functionality does not come out of the box with SharePoint 2010, this free tool is a real gem.

  • Weird User error - Items disappear from Workflow inbox when refreshed

    Hi All,
    One of our end users gets this error -
    He logs into business workplace, and clicks on one of the items and exits without doing anything - on refresh the item vanishes from his workflow inbox - not visible in any sub folders or Outbox (Work items exceuted by me).
    Same thing occurs when he clicks on the "Reserve" or "Replace" icons for an item and does a Refresh. The item disappears from Inbox.
    Tried to swtich off the Preview pane and refresh - same occurence.
    Tried to refresh / reserve from another computer and the same thing occurs.
    Is this a problem with the GUI / user profile?
    Any pointers highly appreciated.

    Rahul,
    Welcome to SDN Forums!!
    Is the user in question a selected agent for the work item(s)? Does this happen only for a specific user? If so, it could be an authorization issue. Check for any failed authorizations (SU53) for the user. What is the status of the WI when it disappears from the inbox? If in error, check for error messages in the technical display of the WF log.

  • Deleting a user in AD using Oracle Workflow

    Hello.
    I have a very unusual scenario that I want to solve.
    We are developing an application using Oracle Workflow in which we are simulating the process of deleting a user from several systems. In one of the steps of the process we have to invalidate the user in MS Active Directory.
    Using OID it's possible to do that? Any clues on how to do it?
    Thanks In Advice.

    adi,
    Yes, the Change User Password workflow is called even if the user logged in using "forgot my password" questions.
    By default, IDM commits the user passwords before the "Change User Password" WF is called (unless you set the deferCommit option), so the problem may be that your function isn't getting called or receiving valid input. Can you verify that your code is actually called?
    The workflow goes like this: (1) Start; If there's an uncommitted password view (there isn't by default) -> (2) CommitView -> (3) Now reprovision the user.
    If you're depending on the transition to CommitView, that may be why your code isn't being called.

    Hi Baski,
        Thank you so much for your response. It is so useful for me.
        The issue has been resolved by uising the XPDL template from SAP. I have some question about changing the phase. I have 3 phases as the following :
    1. Draft
    2. Approval -> Workflow is here . Prev phase is Draft and Next Phase is Approved.
    3. Approved
    I added script to change phase in post script on the block activity as following
    import com.sap.odp.api.common.*;
    if(getApprovalStatus() != DENIED) {
         doc.getIBeanHomeIfc().upgradeToEdit(doc);
         doc.getIBeanHomeIfc().changePhase(doc,"Approved");
    }else{
         doc.getIBeanHomeIfc().upgradeToEdit(doc);
         doc.getIBeanHomeIfc().changePhase(doc,"Draft");
    When the approver approve the document i found the error in backgroud task status as following:

    1. Why does the workflow change the phase automatically? On my understanding the phase should be handled in PostScript by the script
    2. On my understanding the workflow engine will lock the document during the workflow. Why this workflow did not release the lock when the document was changed the phase to 'Approved'.

  • HD NTSC to PAL DVD workflow... help?

    Hi all,
    I poured through the forums regarding this question and could not find a suitable answer. And (of course) I am in a rush for my client.
    I have shot and edited a DVCPRO HD 720x60P video, and now I need to get this thing into a PAL DVD.
    I tried exporting the video as Apple Pro-Res 422 PAL, and there are problems with the aspect ratio changing, and about 60% of the cross dissolves flash black for a second.
    Anyway, after reading through the forums, I realize that I am in the dark for a workflow to get this video out of FCP and into either DVDSP or iDVD (this will be a simple DVD, and iDVD is good enough), and make sure it plays on a DVD player in Scotland.
    Any suggestions as to how to best get from point A to point B?
    Also, is there no PAL that is close to 16:9?
    Sorry for the silly questions... I am out of my comfort zone here... and on the clock.
    Matt

    From what I understand from my PAL land friends, their current generation DVD players can deal with NTSC disks. Why don't you check with the person who will play it back and see what equipment they have.
    You did not say how you did the conversion but I would do this.
    • Export a file from FCP using "current settings"
    • Import it into Compressor
    • Apply the advanced format conversion preset for DV/PAL anamorphic and submit the job
    This will give you an 16:9 DV/PAL video.
    If this has problems, you may need to do the conversion in two steps.
    • Export a file from FCP using "current settings"
    • Import it into Compressor
    • Apply the advanced format conversion preset for DV/NTSC anamorphic and submit the job
    • Import the resulting DV/NTSC anamorphic file into compressor
    • Apply the advanced format conversion preset for DV/PAL anamorphic and submit the job

  • Can't get hold of the user.waveset.roles in my workflow

    Hey,
    I am developing a workflow process that adds a role to each user during reconsiliation if they don't already have it.
    1. It gets the user view.
    2.. It checks to see if the user has a particular role. (This is where my problem lies, as the user.wavset.roles value returns null).
    3. If the user already has the role the process ends.
    4. If the user doesnt have the role it appends it to user.waveset.roles and then checks in the user view.
    So at the moment the process always thinks the user hasnt got the role because I can't get user.wavset.roles to return a value. Although I can access it when I append!?
    Any ideas anyone why I cant access the user.waveset.roles value in the second step? It prints out that the value is null on the stack trace.
    The Activity code looks like this:
    <Activity id='5' name='Check Roles'>
    <Transition to='end'>
    <match>
    <upcase>
    <block trace='true'>
    <ref>user.waveset.roles</ref>
    </block>
    </upcase>
    <upcase>
    <rule name='Entrust GetAccess Role Name'/>
    </upcase>
    </match>
    </Transition>
    <Transition to='ProcessUser'/>
    <WorkflowEditor x='163' y='9'/>
    </Activity>

    Check once if the variable "user" is holding the user view or not.
    I'm not sure if you have already tried this....
    If we are getting the user view using a workflow service then by default the fetched user view is placed in a variable called "view". So we may have to use 'view.waveset.roles'.
    If we want to store the fetched user view in the variable "user", then in the Action that gets the user view, we may have to return the value from "view" to "user", wherein "user" is a global variable defined at the workflow level.Then we can refer "user" in all the activities throughout the workflow.

  • HD to DVD Workflows

    I shot my son’s football game this weekend using a Canon XHA1 (1080i 60i) and hooked the camcorder up to my 61 inch HDTV. The quality was so sharp and beautiful I was stunned!
    However, then I proceeded to read all night on how to make a great DVD (for the grandparents) from the footage and realized it was not going to be easy. Using FCS 2.0 I used all the tricks of outputting the edited film to a self-contained QT movie using both AIC or ProRes, changed compressor setting to reflect all tabs to “Better”, changed Field Dominance to bottom or progressive, I even skipped compressor and went strait into DVD SP with the QT export. I think I tried about every recommendation in this forum. Yet everything I burned to DVD looks terrible! Even on a non HDTV. What I mean by terrible is different for all the settings I tried. Some had interlaced artifacts, others looked pixilated or blotchy. All did not look in the least ½ as sharp and clear that the original output from tape had, or even the captured footage in FCP6. I think I am loosing quality when exporting from FCP, and then even more when the DVD is burned.
    I realize there is no simple answer to what do I do now. So I want to pick apart all the setting and try to learn what it is I am doing wrong. So here is a list of questions for the “experts” out there:
    1.Is there a reason to think that starting with HDV or Apple Intermediate Codec (AIC) makes a difference in the final DVD process?
    2.Is there a reason to think that starting with a 60i frame rate, you can’t get a clean sharp image of sports on DVD?
    3.QuickTime Export questions
    a.Is it always better to use the same codec for export that the sequence was captured in? (i.e. AIC capture uses AIC export, HDV 1080/60i capture uses HDV 1080/60i export) rather than using ProRes export for anything captured with HDV or AIC.
    b.Is there a reason to change the sequence settings before export? (Yet another place to change field order - Way is there so many?)
    4.Compressor 3.0 Questions
    a.Why is there a difference of opinion on the compressor settings for Field output/order dominance (Progressive vs. Bottom)?
    b.Should these all always be set to the same setting (Progressive vs. Bottom) in the Frame control, encoding, and A/V tabs in compressor AND the Sequence settings in FCP?
    c.Why is the default same as source or Top?
    5.Final Questions:
    a.Is this a lost cause and I just need to wait until I can afford a HD or Blue-ray Burner?
    b.Is there hardware or other software that can be purchased to make my life easier?
    I want to that anyone in advance for responding to these questions. I will also be posting questions in other forums, send emails to other experts in the field, and will post any other information that I get. I know that there are many others out there trying to find out how to make a high quality DVD from our HD projects. I want to get to the bottom of this and try to help out any one else that needs it.

    This is largely up to one's eye. Some folks feel that AIC represents a noticeable drop in quality, others can't tell the two codecs apart. What do you think of the comparisons?
    2.Is there a reason to think that starting with a 60i frame rate, you can’t get a clean sharp image of sports on DVD?
    That shouldn't be the case at all. Something must be going wrong during the encode.
    3.QuickTime Export questions

    If you're going the File > Export > QuickTime Movie route out of FCP, use the Current Settings option in the dialog. Do not change settings, that will force FCP (and the underling QuickTime code) to render out in that codec - not the best thing
    4.Compressor 3.0 Questions
    a.Why is there a difference of opinion on the compressor settings for Field output/order dominance (Progressive vs. Bottom)?

    c.Why is the default same as source or Top?
    HDV is top (or odd) field dominant. Unless you really need an progressive-scan file (because you're converting it for the web or iPods) there is little to be gained by altering the field dominance at any stage in your workflow.
    In other words, until you can ascertain why you're getting all this pixelation, leave it be.
    5.Final Questions:
    a.Is this a lost cause and I just need to wait until I can afford a HD or Blue-ray Burner?
    b.Is there hardware or other software that can be purchased to make my life easier?
    Forgive me if you've detailed your workflow already and I'm simply duplicating what you've been doing, but here is what I'd recommend:
    Edit using the appropriate HDV or AIC Easy Setup in FCP. Do not fuss with the Field Dominance setting. Set the sequence to render out as ProRes422 if you're working with native HDV.
    Export > QuickTime Move. Use Current Settings.
    Drop your QT export into Compressor 3. Use the appropriate preset and make sure that Frame Controls are on (since you've drop in an HD file and are outputting an SD encode, they should be automatically set to On). Do not mess with Field Dominance. Wait 2 days for it to encode (only half-joking).
    Or have you done exactly that and seen unsatisfactory results?

  • User Menu for QuickTime DVD

    Here's what I'm needing. I have 5 QuickTime movies (tutorials) I want to put on a CD or DVD (depending on the file size). I would like a menu to automatically start on the MAC when inserting the CD/DVD that will allow the user to select which movie they would like to view. So the DVD will contain the QuickTime files and some simple menu. I've searched everywhere. Any suggestions at all???? If the menu can't auto start, that would be fine. I just need the menu.

    An HTML interface seems most appropriate for a data CD or DVD.
    Anything resembling "autorun" will not work on a Mac as those were disabled in OS 8 for security issues.
    New security features in QuickTime will prevent the use of javascript in your html code to "call" the QuickTime files on the media so your page code shouldn't attempt it.
    Make a "Web" page and use "relative" URL's in the page code. You can include a Flash Media (.swf) file that links to your QuickTime files but it may be simpler to just use "rollover" style menu on your intro page to link to them (KISS).
    Easy to fit 5 high quality QuickTime files onto a CD but if they are long in time you'll want to use even higher quality versions and burn as data DVD's.

  • Very best 1080i60 to PAL DVD workflow, please?

    Hey guys,
    I've been handed some footage shot in HDV1080i60 on a Z1. Trouble is that it was supposed to be shot in 1080i50, because we need to make a PAL DVD at the end of this..
    So I'm wondering what, using the FCS2 suite is the best workflow.. I'm thinking of capturing 1080i60 and then converting that to PAL via Compressor using Optical flow..
    I don't know if it is better to edit in 1080i60, then convert before going to DVD, or to convert before editing..
    Any advice on what would be the ideal workflow would be gratefully appreciated..
    Pete

    Hmm, yep of course converting the copius quantities of raw footage will take forever. Thanks for the advice on a editing codec..
    I was gonna say that yeah while most PAL DVD players will play NTSC, that I cannot deliver on NTSC..
    But now I'm thinking that provided it plays on their player they'd never know the difference. (Wedding video)
    Maybe I'll send through a draft copy as NTSC & see if they grumble about playability. If not I'll deliver NTSC DVD..
    Thanks for the answer..
