Users - I seem to be two people!?

Hi there -
This could get addictive ... boy are you guys gonna regret the day I found this board!
Here is stupid, rookie question(s) #2:
Part 1: Accounts
When I got my G5 Quad just over a year ago I didn't really understand the "Users" facility because I run my Graphic Design operation from home (I'm the only person who uses it) and while I've been used to working with Macs for many years was not really familiar with the concept of "Accounts".
I do not know what happened after my initial set-up but it seems that I created a second account with the title "Deano" (probably by just going to folder - new) in my "Users" folder. The default one set up for me was in my full name which I seem to remember I found a little formal. Probably could have just changed it, eh?
I now have (I think) all my relevant "work" files within my formally named account (the original pre-set-up folder with my full name) and only a few games applications etc. in the "Deano" account). Everything seemed so much easier in OS9 where I chose where my stuff went!
Before I make a clone of my hard drive I would like to fix this problem so I only have one account with everything in it but I do not know what to move ... or how to safely move it. Most of the folders that have been created in the "Deano" account are empty, they have sub folders but most of these are empty too. The only stuff I'd like to transfer to my main account, before back-up, are the games but I don't want to lose any preferences or saved games - anyone who's spent two years plodding through the Marathon Trilogy will understand.
The "Deano" account doesn't show up when I go to System Preferences:Accounts. So I assume I must have done something wrong.
Q: +How can I unify the two sets of folders into one "account" and once I have can I change it's name?+
Part 2: Where should I keep all my work files?
Also I think that I'm not filing my work files in the correct place either. From day one I have saved everything I create to the folder "Documents" (which was the same as the name of the work folder I had on my old mac ... and it was already there, cool huh?). I file them within this folder into sub-folders by clients name. However, this folder seems to get other files and folders automatically added to it when I update or download new software ... it's obvious (now) that this folder is only really for the relevant "documentation" for software products etc. and I should be storing my actual work documents files and folders somewhere else.
Q: +Can I create a new place for all my work files and just move them? I know I will have to update linked files within the various software packages but this is not a problem. Does the folder have to be within my "Account" in the "Users" folder or can it be directly on the HD like my Applications folder etc.?+
Can anyone help me out?
Thanks in advance, and once again ... *Happy New Year!!*
Regards - Deano

You are planning to do a number of things, so let me first make a suggestion about the overall approach. Instead of: "Before I make a clone of my hard drive I would like to fix this problem so I only have one account with everything in it but I do not know what to move ... or how to safely move it", I would make that clone immediately. And leave it alone until you have completed the reconfiguring and rearrangements you plan to do. This way, if you accidentally do something that needs to be undone, your clone is there with all the originals. By the way, this is the approach I always adopt, whenever I have to do anything drastic with an existing installation.
After all the rearranging etc. of the main drive you just make a new clone that erases the previous one.
The "Deano" account doesn't show up when I go to System Preferences:Accounts. So I assume I must have done something wrong.
This would suggest to me there is only one account, i.e. the principal, or Admin account. Why do you think there is a second account?
Where should I keep all my work files?
You can keep them where ever it is most convenient. As you know, you can create folders within folders, and there is nothing special about the Documents folder. Feel free to ignore it, if that's the way you want to work. You can direct your downloads, the default "save to" locations etc. to the appropriate places, as you work.
Can I create a new place for all my work files and just move them? I know I will have to update linked files within the various software packages but this is not a problem.
By all means.
.. can it be directly on the HD like my Applications folder etc.?
Indeed, yes. Or even on a different hard drive (or partition of the same drive).
And best wishes for the new year, to you too.

You need to contact App Store support. They are the only people who can help with account issues.

  • Can two people share an icloud account keeping their info separate

can two people share an icloud account keeping their info separate

No: iCloud is intended for use by one person to keep their Macs and devices in sync. Anyone signed into the account has access to all its data. Separate people should have separated iCloud accounts, and separate user accounts on their Mac(s).

  • Can two people have different itunes accounts on the same computer ?, can two people have different itunes accounts on the same computer ?

Can two people with two ipod touches have different itunes accounts on the same computer ??

Yes but you they have to setup 2 different user accounts on the same computer.

  • If two people use one computer, but we have separte itunes accounts, Apple ID, and icloud will my apps I get be stored in their account too since we are using the same computer?

If two people share the same computer, but have separate itunes account, Apple ID, and icloud and one of them downloads an app will it also go into the other persons account since y'all use the same computer

If you  have separate user accounts on the computer, then your downloaded apps are stored in your iTunes Library. See the following for dealing with having multiple users on the same computer: How to use multiple iPhone, iPad, or iPod devices with one computer.
Using More than One iDevice on the Same Computer
This applies mainly to couples who are adding another device and do not want their email, messages, etc. being duplicated on both devices. To begin read: How to use multiple iPhone, iPad, or iPod devices with one computer. You need to establish a separate Apple ID and password for whomever will use the new iDevice. See Apple - My Apple ID and Frequently asked questions about Apple ID. The easiest way is to do this on the computer using iTunes: iTunes- How to set up an Apple ID within iTunes.
On the computer create a new user account for the person with the new iDevice. This will be the user account that person will always use. He/She will no longer use the other user account. This way that person will have a separate iTunes Library
Start by transferring the new device(s) to a new account along with all your data.  Save any photo stream photos that you want to keep to your camera roll (unless they are already in the camera roll) by opening your Photos app, tap on Albums icon at the bottom. Now, tap on My Photo Stream album; tap Select; tap on the photos you want to select;, tap the share icon (box with upward facing arrow) in the lower left corner; then tap Save to Camera Roll.
If you are syncing notes with iCloud that you want to keep then you need to open each of your notes and email them to yourself. Later you can copy and paste the text into new notes created in your new account.
Tap on Settings > iCloud > Delete Account (only deletes it from this device, not from iCloud; the person keeping the current account will not be affected,) provide the password to turn off Find My Phone and choose Keep on My iDevice when prompted.  Sign in with a different Apple ID to create your new account. Choose Merge to upload your data.
Once you are on separate accounts, you can each go to icloud.com and delete the other person's data from your account.
Note: The essence of the above was created by user, randers4. I
have made substantial changes to improve readability and syntax.

Use the trackpad to scroll, thats what it was designed for. The scroll bars automatically disappear when not being used and will appear if you scroll up or down using the trackpad.
This is a user-to-user forum and most people will post on here if they have problems. You very rarely get people posting to say there update went smooth. The fact is the vast majority of Mountain Lion users will not be experiencing any major problems with the OS, or maybe with apps which are not compatible, but thats hardly Apple's fault if developers don't update their apps.

  • Can two people with their own iPhones use the same computer and iTunes?

Can two people with their own iPhones use the same computer and iTunes?

Yes. My wife and I each have our own Apple ID and used the same computer to sync our phones with iTunes. The best way to do this is set up separate user accounts on the computer. If you are logged in to your account on the computer and your wife wants to sync here phone, you would log out and she would log in. These keeps all your stuff separate and avoids a ton of confusion.

  • I seem to have two home folders?

I don't know how this happened (perhaps when I upgraded to Tiger?), but I seem to have two home folders.
The “real” one has the “house” icon and is in the proper place: Macintosh Hard Drive > Users > tim (my username). The duplicate does not have the house icon and is at the root level of my HD.
Both folders have mostly the same contents: ViaVoice, Sites, Public, Pictures, Music, Movies, Desktop, Documents, Library. The differences are that the “real” home folder (the one with the house icon) has icons on all of the subfolders too, while the “fake” one has blank subfolders. The real folder has the actual contents of my desktop in its desktop folder while the fake one does not. The “fake” home folder, however, has a crossed out pencil icon at the top of the window (meaning the folder is unchangeable?).
Is it safe to delete the “fake” home folder and how do I do so?
    Thanks.

It should be perfectly safe to trash the "fake", as it cannot possibly be being used, after checking (you've already done it, I'm sure) that it contains nothing you want.
Have a Finder window open so that you can see the "fake". Launch Terminal (in /Applications/Utilities) and type:
    rm -R
    Type a <space> after the R
Drag the "fake" folder into the Terminal window. The folder will not move, but the line in Terminal will now be completed with the path to the "fake". Hit <return>.
If the "fake" has gone that's it. If there is an error message in Terminal then do exactly the same, but using:
    sudo rm -R
…<space>, drag folder. After hitting <return> you will get a "password:" prompt. Type carefully (it will not show on screen), hit <return> again. Poof!

Photoshop CS4- Does anyone know how to tell if two people are using same file?

    Hi,
Thanks for your response. I'm not the solution in the link.
The problem that I am having at work it that several people in our department want to be able to update a file, but we want to be sure that no one else is currently editing that file. If someone has the file open, it's helpful to know the user's name so we can talk about when the next person can edit the file. This works in Excel files that we use, and I would love to find out how to do it in Photoshop and Illustrator.
    Thanks for the help!

  • Gifted a playlist to two people; one didn't receive

As stated in the title, I gifted a playlist to two people, but one person says he didn't receive it (And we checked his email together to be sure).  I entered his email address after another one and a comma, per instructions, and I did pay twice the price.
The gift doesn't show up in Purchases; is there a way to check whether an error occurred with delivery?
    Thank you.

does anyone know how to add gaps between songs for
songs already in the iTunes library? If I could
solve this problem, it may solve another problems I
am having -- a choppy sound between tracks. When I
play consecutive songs, there is a choppy sound
between tracks, as if iTunes is starting to play the
next song before the first song has finished. If I
play any track directly, then I don't get this choppy
    sound
THE PROBLEM IN MY PREVIOUS POST SEEMS TO HAVE BEEN SOLVED BY UN-SETTING THE CROSS-FADE FEATURE. NOW THAT I HAVE NOT SELECTED CROSS-FADE, NO LONGER IS THERE A CHOPPY SOUND AT THE BEGINNING OF SONGS, AND GAPS ARE PLACED BETWEEN SONGS.

  • Two people sharing one iMac with two Apple ID's software and app download question

I'm new to Apple computers finally had enough with Dell.  I share the iMac with another person so we have our separate ID's.  Is it possible to download software from the App Store once and use it between two people? I noticed when we updated Apps last night it didn't carry over to the second person.  Thank you in advance.

Setup another user account on your Mac. You use your Apple ID on your account and the other person on theirs.
Open System Preferences > Users & Groups then select the Password tab.
Click the gold padlock icon bottom left corner of the window. You will be prompted for your admin password.
Now click + to create a new acocunt.
Select:  Show fast user switching menu as and make a selection.
You should see an account name top right corner of your screen. From there you can switch accounts.

  • Can two people share the same Apple ID on two different iPhones and maintain different passwords?  Yes, there is more to the story.

I have an iMac, and iPhone.  I've had my Apple ID for a few years.
My wife got an iPhone 4S a few months back and the salesperson at Verizon set her Apple ID the same as mine, but gave her a different password.  I don't know if this was ok, but that is what happened.
So, yesterday, we both upgraded to IOS6 and I had no problem logging in to my iPhone with my Apple ID.  When my wife went to log in, she was told that she was entering the wrong password. We entered the password over and over again and still was wrong.
The question is... can two people share the same Apple ID on two different iPhones and maintain different passwords?  (I have the feeling her iPhone is thinking that since it's my Apple ID, it wants my password.)
If not, can I still set up a new Apple ID for her even through she's had the iPhone for a few months?
    Thanks.

    Hi
You shold follow your feelings, its probably right most of the time.
You can have 5 different devices hucked upp to one Apple ID. What I have done is that my wife and I have one Apple ID, when I bye a new app on my phone, She gets it to. Thats nice.
You can allways set upp a new Apple ID for your wife.
