Users new iPhone 6 is stripping attachments

Good morning,
I have a user who is trying to load an RSA token onto her new iPhone 6 and when it is sent to her via Exchange e-mail her phone appears to be stripping the .sdtid attachment. She is able to see the attachment in the desktop version of Outlook and if she forwards it to me I can see it on my iPhone 5s with same OS version.
Specifics
She receives the attachment in her Outlook desktop client but not the Exchange mailbox on her iPhone.
She can receive other attachment types on her iPhone, so the phone isn't blocking everything
Other users with iPhone 5s can receive the attachment
Are we missing a setting someplace? Any other ideas?

Yes, Exchange 2007, she has the mailbox set up on her phone as an Exchange mailbox. It worked just fine in the past on her old 5s and it still works on my 5s.
RSA is being used for authentication on a customers network, so we don't have much choice regarding what to use. Most important, she can receive the attachment in the (Windows 7) desktop Outlook client and I can receive it on my iPhone 5s, so it isn't Exchange stripping the attachment

  • Previous user, new Iphone 5= must have messaging in order to continue receiving VOICEMAIL NOTIFICATIONS: result Plan Upgrade required.

That is the news you did not get from Apple or Verizon.
So, if you want to get their new phone and stay with your current plan, data must be added AND texting too!
    For many users- no big deal;
those who wish to avoid texting and all related expense, too bad! There is no workaround.
For me it is an additional $10 to $20  monthly increase. Just to continue getting VOICEMAIL NOTIFICATIONS like I did for almost 30 years.
It is time to stop going back to these business leaders and taking their extortion in stride.

    To further clarify;
The Data plan IS required and additional cost accepted-
The Messaging was never disclosed as a requirement- additional cost unplanned and unacceptable.
Footnote... I have seen on some info blogs mention of resetting network to resolve--- it may be possible I was mis-directed, and further testament to the utter frustration.

my icloud account on my new iphone does not match the user ID for itunes as it is an old apple ID. There is no password for this ID so I cant change it and it wont let me change the apple ID. Any help?

To change to iCloud ID on your phone you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID then sign in with the new ID.  If you don't know the password for the old ID, and if the old ID is an earlier version of your current ID, go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPhone on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

  • I don't have a question so much as a comment for APPLE. I am a new iPhone 5s user and it has many things I like but It is too small and I can only talk on the phone and use the internet if i am in a position to use a wifi connection and that is not good

I am a new iPhone 5s user. I like many of the features it offers. I don't like that I cannot talk and use the internet (if I am away from WI-FI) and this phone is too small. I am actually thinking of returning it and going back to an Android. After all the hassle it took to get all my stuff working on this phone , it may be worth the switch. This phone needs to be able to multitask freely in this day and age. Also Safari is not the best search engine but I could work with it if I could talk and use it at the same time. I use my phone for business and this is a feature that is needed in my line of work.

The iPhone is working, as designed and advertised.  In this case, the user failed to educate themselves properly, either by proper research or asking the right questions, before purchasing the device.
I understand that the OP failed to do research. But then, I wasn't replying to the OP. I was replying to Chris. I have Verizon. I can talk and use data at the same time with my Droid Maxx. Therefore, the problem is not just with the network. It would be technically possible for an iPhone to do that on Verizon/Sprint if Apple had chosen to use a different chip, such as the kind other phone manufacturers have elected to use.
Of course, this is probably all irrelevant to the OP's issue. It was merely a point of clarification, especially for those people who are used to being able to use both voice and data at the same time on Verizon. When they switch to an iPhone, they are often surprized at the limitation.
    Best of luck.

You need to create a user account for your wife (or yourself depending on who has the current user account). When syncing, each of you should sign in as a separate user, login to iTunes and then sync. I had this problem when my sister got an iPhone. When we did her initial sync, everything on my iPhone showed up on hers. Apple gave me this solution.

    Hello sapiii96,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
For more information on this, take a look at:

To sign out of your Apple ID
Go to Settings > FaceTime, tap your Apple ID, and select Sign Out.
Go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive, tap your Apple ID, and select Sign Out.

  • I have 2 new iPhone 4s. Messages from other iPhone users appear on both of my new phones. I want these seperate. How do I make these independent of one another?

I bought my daughters new iPhones (4s) for Christmas.  They love them except that when another iPhone user text one daughter, the other daughter gets the messages and same for the other daughter's text.  How do I make these independent of one another without putting my family on separate ITunes accounts?

When you were setting the phones up you should have been asked if you wanted to use the phone number or an email address for FaceTime/messaging. My guess is you used the same email for both phones. Just go in and change it. That or you have the same iCloud id on both phones, I'm not using the cloud so I can't help you there.

  • New iPhone user needs guidance setting up 4 iPhones for family - best approach?

Hi - I'm a new iPhone user tasked with setting up 4 iPhones for family (three 4S, one 3GS). I set up the first 4S using my mother's existing Apple ID (she has an iPad) and I think (hope) hers is fine. When I set up my father's phone, my sister said to enter my mother's Apple ID during setup since they wanted to use a single Apple ID for iTunes purchases. The setup screen I'm referring to the 7th screen into the setup process for a new iPhone 4S (after the Welcome, Language, Country/Region, Location Services, Wi-Fi Networks, and Set Up iPhone screens), where it asks you to "Sign In with an Apple ID" or "Create a Free Apple ID". This screen was where I entered my mother's Apple ID into my father's phone.
By entering my mother's Apple ID on my father's phone at this point during setup, I seem to have created a "clone" of her phone - their phone numbers are distinct and they can call each other but iMessages sent to either of them initially appeared on BOTH phones. I think I have now fixed that by creating a separate Apple ID for my father after the fact and entering it under Settings>Messages. Thinking I could also enter his new Apple ID under Settings>iCloud, I found I could not change it from my mother's Apple ID (it's greyed out). I saw a recommendation in another post to click on the red "Delete Account" button at the bottom, but will that delete my mother's entire account or only its association with my father's phone?
Backing up a step or two, I'm worried that at this point I should have entered/created a new Apple ID on screen #7 during initial setup of my father's phone (instead of entering my mother's Apple ID), and that just changing settings in iMessage, iCloud, etc. won't really fix any problem(s) I've created. I hesitate to set up the other two phones before knowing how badly I've already messed things up with this one.
During the initial set up of my father's iPhone, should I have created/entered his own unique Apple ID on screen #7 instead of entering my mother's Apple ID? (and then on his phone AFTER setup was complete, changing to my mother's Apple ID under Settings>Store so that all purchases are shared)?
If yes, do I need to restore his phone to factory settings and set it up as a new phone so his phone behaves like his and not a clone of hers?
Without knowing what might be the best way to set up these 4 new iPhones, I was thinking the four unique users of these new phones would most likely want to share apps (by purchasing them with one Apple ID), backup/synch to one computer, but maintain separate iCloud accounts so everyone's info is private? I've spent time reading other posts and see so many different recommendations for families with multiple devices that my head is spinning. Many include questions from folks migrating from older phones or MobileMe. I think my situation is simpler in that there are 4 new iphones and one existing Apple ID. Have I missed some comprehensive post that clarifies the best way to set things up for families new to iPhones, or do needs vary so much that no single best way exists? Given my situation (and depending on which way I should proceed regarding having set up my father's phone with my mother's Apple ID), should I create/enter a separate Apple ID for each new phone user during initial setup so each phone is distinct from the others, and AFTER setup is complete, changing the iTunes and Store info to the shared Apple Id for purchases? Or can I customize each individual phone after the fact in Settings>Whatever so that even if I've entered the same Apple ID on Screen #7 during initial new phone setup, the 4 phones will ultimately be set up correctly?
So sorry to have to ask such basic questions. Many thanks, in advance, for any guidance provided to help me not make any (more?) mistakes during setup that will be a real headache to remedy later, once everyone has started using their phones.

Hi edgefield, sorry you're having so much trouble.
FIRST CREATE A BACKUP ON YOUR COMPUTER -ALWAYS BEFORE PLAYING WITH THE INFORMATION ON THE PHONES (it prevents losses)
    Now I'll answer your questions)
During the initial set up of my father's iPhone, should I have created/entered his own unique Apple ID on screen #7 instead of entering my mother's Apple ID? (and then on his phone AFTER setup was complete, changing to my mother's Apple ID under Settings>Store so that all purchases are shared)?
Yes.  Create his own apple id and sign him in.  then tap settings ->store -> tap on the account name -> sign out.
Then sign in your fathers apple id.  (create your fathers apple id on the computer, its much easier, trust me).
If yes, do I need to restore his phone to factory settings and set it up as a new phone so his phone behaves like his and not a clone of hers?##
No.  Tap settings -> icloud, and turn everything off (keep on the phone option).  Then DELETE ACCOUNT (it's got red around it and at the bottom of the screen if you scroll down).  You cannot sign out of iCloud, you can only delete the account.  Then clean up the contacts and information on the phone.
Then you tap settings -> iCloud and sign in.  Put your fathers apple id in the section.  His information will be uploaded to www.icloud.com.  Then go to www.icloud.com and sign in with his apple id.  Make sure his information is uploaded (you'll have to select timezone and such).
From that point you are fine except for iMessage.
For iMessage to function properly, only one apple id can be signed into the iTunes store (settings -> store).  If they are both signed into the same apple id on the iTunes store, than you need to turn off iMessage on one of the phones.  The iMessage may be delievered to either phone when both are signed in under the same apple id in the iTunes store.
tap settings -> messages -> imessage off
This also disables facetime.  If you want them to have iMessage and Facetime, they have to have seperate apple id's signed into the iTunes store.
Have I missed some comprehensive post that clarifies the best way to set things up for families new to iPhones, or do needs vary so much that no single best way exists?
Not that I've seen, will consider creating one if I have time.
Your best bet is to create each apple id on the computer (keyboards are easier to use) and then sign them each in during the creation process.  Then change the iTunes store info to the stored apple id.
This will allow each person to serpate iClouds without interfering with each others Cloud as you set up new devices.
Or can I customize each individual phone after the fact in Settings>Whatever so that even if I've entered the same Apple ID on Screen #7 during initial new phone setup, the 4 phones will ultimately be set up correctly?
Doing it this way can cause problems (or used to, not sure if it still does), initially, when you set it up, it wants to create a backup or upload the blank info to iCloud.  You are better off setting up their own apple id first and signing in with that, and then changing it in the iTunes store.
I'm off to bed, I'll check this thread tomorrow and see if you have any more questions/problems.  Remember, always create a back-up before you do anything.

What do you mean make folders? Like folders inside an application or accessing system folders? You can't do the latter.

  • Ipod 5th gen user considering a new iphone, imessage question.

    Hello all,
I currently have a ipod touch 5th generation, I use the imessage feature a lot to keep in touch with friends all over the world so it does not cost me on my regular cell plan. Now my quetsion is , if I get the new iphone, I don't want the imessages to come through on my cell because all of my friends who I use this feature with have international numbers. If I am using my ipod for imessaging, do I just need to cut the phone off so I won't get any charges for imessages? I just don't want to get a huge bill for imessages on my cell for international numbers. Also, if I download something like Viber and I use my phone number to converse with international friends over 3G, will this be free as long as I have unlimited texting? Please help, thanks!

iMessaging between iOS devices has no carrier chargers for the message delivery itself - it only matters what type of internet data connection your are using.
If your iPhone is on a wifi network, then iMessage is completely free, even if another iMessage user sends to your phone number since iMessages are processed by Apple's equipment, not your cellular carrier's.  In that scenario, your telephone number is just another identifier linked to your AppleID and your iMessage account - it is effectively no different than your associated "can be reached at" email addresses also linked to that same AppleID and iMessage account.
However, if you are not connected to a wifi network, and you are using a cellular data connection for internet access, then some data charges may apply, or some data usage may be applied against your service limits (if you have limits).  This is because an iMessage over your cellular service data connection is just like any other internet data connection, so your carrier does pass along the data, but they do not process the actual message delivery.
So iMessage is no different than any other internet data messaging service - if you are using a free internet data connection, it is free.  If you are using any form of paid internet connection, like your cellelur providers cellular internet connection, then it is effectively not free.
Viber, Skype or any other VOIP service with messaging features has the exact same limitation - they all use an internet data connection, so any charges from your cellular service provider would be related to whether you use those apps & their services over your cellular data connection.  If you use those over free wifi connections, then again, there are zero charges from your cellular service provider, who only cares when you are using their data network for your internet access to use your internet-based messaging services.
Note that SMS message are processed by your cellular service provider, but they do not use your cellular internet data connection - SMS is sent over the same channels as a cellular voice call.  There is no way to use SMS in an iPhone's messaging app and not pay your carrier something.

  • I am a new user and my Iphone sound stopped. The Verizon store could not fix it so a new Iphone has arrived.  What do I do to keep all the apps I have on the phone? Can I transition them somehow to my new Iphone or do I start all over?

I am a new Iphone user so I am going to sound very dumb. The sound in my phone stopped working for some unknown reason about a month in. Verizon could not fix so a new phone was sent. I sit here with my current soundless Iphone and the new one. The guy at Verizon moved my contacts over but what can I do to get all the apps I downloaded to be on my new Iphone before I send the current one back? He said something about downloading something on the my PC (not a mac) and then restoring from the PC to the new phone.  Where do I start getting the stuff downloaded from my current soundless phone to the PC?

  • Have to be an authorized user to buy the new iPhone 3G?

Hello, I'm going to buy the new iPhone 3G tomorrow. I was reading online the requirements and things you must have when you go into the Apple Retail Store to buy the phone. It said you must be the primary AT&T account user.
Somebody else in my family is the owner, and I'm a user. I asked an Apple customer service person, and she said as long as I can be an "Authorized" user, that other family member will not have to be with me when I buy the new phone.
How do I become an AT&T authorized user on my account?
    Thank you.

Thank you so much. The customer service person gave me a number, but it didn't work. Should I just call a general AT&T Customer Service phone number?
    Thanks.
