Users not connecting - Wireless LAN

Hi,
I have deployed 2xCisco 5508 controllers in HA (OS 7.4) with Cisco APs 1602 & 2602. I have also configured FlexConnect and users are using PEAP for authentication on ACS. On day 1, everything worked fine and users were able to connect and get IP address from the DHCP server and were able to access corporate server. But suddenly the users stopped getting connected to the network. They were not getting IP addresses from DHCP however the DHCP server is reachable from WLC. The users are getting error message "The connection was unsuccessful". The setup was ready to put in production but this happened so I am not able to put it in production. Looking for some help from the forum members. It seems to be issue with SW version 7.4.
Regards,
Sohail

@Scott. Yes, I will definitely open a case but before that I wanted to do some R&D. I will upgrade WLC to 7.4.100.60 first and if it does not help, I will downgrade it to 7.3.
@Abhishek. Do you mean 7.4.100.60? As I am already running 7.4.100.0 on my WLC.

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

  • Out of no where, will not connect wirelessly.

I just purchased a Windows 8 pc. However, I take such good care of my techie things I still have an old Toshiba laptop about 8 years old, maybe a little less that runs just great, it's just the technolgy was getting a little behind. It's the old style "tablet" that has the swivel screen and was considered "heavy" accord to our standards today.
The Toshiba Satellite (circa 2005) laptop is an XP with all the updates and service packs. I keep it lean and clean with Advanced System Care, have for months with no problem. It was always used to connect wirelessly.
About the middle of February I switced from Verizon slow DSL to Comcast because we have no other choice for a faster speed. No FIOS. But, I've come back a full 180 to Verizon. However I did get a new modem, the latest advances. It's a D-Link ADSL2+  (DSL2750B)  Supposed to run 3 to 6 times faster than the old Verizon modem I had. When I first connected to the DSL I turned this laptop on, connected wirelessly and it was there great going! I was even hitting almost the top speed I am provisioned for wireless. The modem is only 2 feet away but still. I turned if off, turned my attention back to the new Windows 8 machine for a day couple of days
Then I wanted to go back and check the Toshiba XP  and revel in it's great performance on this new modem .... drat!!  It detects all local stations, even of course mine, but when I try to connect it tries but fails and jumps to a neighbors DSL. I can however connect with the Ethernet cord.
I've been using this Toshiba Tablet for months with a USB wireless adapter just fine that a friend gave me. In fact either the internal wireless adapter and the USB worked with not a problem but tests seemed to show his gift of the adapter was a little faster, so I use it exclusively.
So neither wireless adapter, internal or USB will connect to my modem. I even tried pressing the WPS button on the modem, the one that's lets someone near log on without a password.
So there it is. Can anyone have a clue why this worked at the first and now won't?  Also, all other pc's, including a netbook with XP and a new small android tablet are connecting no problem. It's the Toshiba laptop alone that for some reason ...
out of no where, will not connect wirelessly. Is there an easy fix than uninstalling drivers?  But why would both adapters get a corrupted driver at the same time?  I hope there is help here.  Thanks so much for reading this and consdering my situation.  Jack  ":-D

Since the computer can connect with the neighbor's router, I don't think there is a problem with wireless connection on the computer. So it has to be some configuration or settings problem with the new modem. I would check the encryption of the new modem. If the computer can see the modem, but not connect, my thinking is that the encryption is blocking the connection. Temporarily disable the encryption on the new modem and see if that makes a difference. If it doesn't, you may want to check the advanced settings on the modem and compare the IP settings on the computers that work versus the one that doesn't.

  • Airport Express not Connecting Wirelessly

    Hi,
I'm on a Windows 7 machine. I'm using a Airport Extreme (802.11AC) as a router for my fiberoptic connection. That has been working fine for about six months. Today, I decided to extend the wireless coverage so I purchased an Airport Express (802.11N Second Generation). I cannot get the amber light to stop flashing and the only way I am able to get the device to show up in Airport Utility is if I plug it directly into the Airport Extreme.
I've reset the device multiple times without success.
I have just finished downloading the Airport Utility for Windows. I went through all of the prompts and set up the Airport Express to extend my existing wireless network. I was able to get the device to show up in the Airport Utility (both for the Windows and the iPad apps). However, the second I unplug it from the Airport Extreme, the connectivity goes away.
I don't believe it's a signal strength issue because I'm plugging it in at a location where I've been connecting wirelessly to the Airport Extreme for six months or so and never had a problem. However, just to be safe, I have tried moving it to two separate locations without any luck.
While I was searching the support articles, I found one where a user suggested that the TCP/IP addresses may have become corrupted. Then, they linked to a Microsoft page that included a utility to fix those issues. I ran the utility, but still have not had any success.
Here's a summary of what I have done:
    1. Reset the device via the reset button on the back.
    2. Connected via ethernet cable to the Airport Extreme basestation and completed setting up the device through the Windows utility. Was able to get to a green light and have the Airport Express registering as visible on both the iPad and Windows Airport Utility apps.
    3. Checked wireless strength by attempting setup at multiple locations.
    4. Installed a Microsoft TCP/IP using their NetShell utility.
    Devices involved:
    Windows 7 machine
    Airport Extreme (802.11AC)
    Airport Express (802.11N Second Generation)
    Airport Utility version 7.7.3
What am I missing? Any suggestions about how to resolve this?

If you connect an Ethernet cable to the Express, then AirPort Utility thinks that this is the way that the Express is going to be set up permanently.
If you want the Express to connect using wireless, you cannot use an Ethernet cable at all during the setup.
Reset the Express back to factory default settings
Power off the AirPort Extreme for a minute, then power it back up
Temporarily, locate the Express in the same room or close proximity to the Express
On the iPad home screen......tap Settings
    Tap WiFi
Under the heading of Setup an AirPort Base Station
    Tap on AirPort Express
    Follow the prompts
Once the Express is set up, move it to a location that is approximately half way between the AirPort Extreme and the general area where  you need more wireless coverage.  Reason.....the Express can only extend the quality and speed of signal that it receives from the AirPort Extreme.

  • User names from Wireless LAN Controller

    Hi all
I'm trying to get a report out of a Cisco 4402 Wireless LAN controller, showing all the current clients on a particular WLAN profile, with their user name.
The Monitor -> Clients screen shows me all the MAC addreses, and I can filter by WLAN Profile Name to home in on the clients I'm interested in.  When I click on a MAC address for more detail, I can see the correctly populated User Name on the Client Properties screen - so the WLC definitely knows all the detail I need...
Ideally I want spreadheet with a list of usernames of currently connected users (or even better, users that have connected over a time period).  I can't see any way to export this data without doing it manually (and I have 270ish clients at any one time).
I've tried at the command line, with a "show clients summary", which at least gives me a table I can copy and paste into a spreadsheet, but again the username detail is only displayed with a "show clients detail MACADDRESS" - and the MACADDRESS field won't take a wildcard.
I've also tried examining the log files, and setting up SysLog to a syslog server - but I haven't observed user names in any of the logs I've seen.
The WLC is on version 4.2.176.0 - and doing an upgrade isn't very convenient at present - although I might consider taking the pain if a later release provides the funcationaility I need.
Does anyone have any ideas on this one?
    Thanks!

    Dear Scott,
I have some points to get clarified for step by step approach that has to be carried out during our downtime, or which is best option for this migration.
Is that the WLC running different code will be able to join Mobility Group.  i.e. irrespective of Model and Code ?
    1. Do i have to create a mobility group and include the existing WLC and new 3 numbers of WLC , thus when i remove the Existing WLC from the Group the Ap will try to get assosiated with other WLC in the group.
    2. In WCS changing the Access point template configuring primary, secondary , tertiary Wireless LAN controller with New wireless LAN controller, during the down time this activity will be performed.
Which method or way to proceed during the downtime. Looking for your expert view.
    Thanks .... Arun

  • Can not connect wireless through Bootcamp Windows XP to Timecapsule?

    Any help would be appreciated.
I recently purchased an iMac with Leopard (10.5.2). Today, I used Bootcamp to install Windows XP with SP2. I created a FAT partition of 32 gigs and followed all of the steps (including installing drivers off of MAC OS installation disk 1 while on initial XP boot up).
My wireless network is on a Timecapsule and is "WPA Personal secured". The Mac OS detects the network and connects instantly, my work laptop PC detects the network and connects instantly. However, the newly installed XP detects the wireless network but will not connect. When I try to connect to the network, I receive an error message that basically states "unable to connect...". I do not even get to a screen that asks for me to enter a network key or password. When I try to connect to two other networks in the neighborhood, I at least get the network key screen.
I have gone into the Windows network tools and have tried to manually configure the connection, but I still get the same problem. I thought maybe I had "WPA2 Personal" enabled as the security setting for the network (XP does not support WPA2 out of the box) , but I have it as "WPA Personal".
Can't figure it out. I am new to Macs (about 1 month). The reason I switched was because I could run both Leopard and XP.
    Best regards,

    Solved my own problem.
    FYI
Even though my security settings on my Timecapsule are listed as "WPA Personal", my work PC Laptop kept detecting as "WPA2 Personal". I even removed all security settings from the Timecapsule and my laptop still detected as "WPA2".
I know that XP does not support WPA2 out of the box.
I hooked directly into the Timecapsule via an ethernet cable while in Windows environment. Thankfully, I was able to access the internet. I went to Microsoft and did a search for WPA2 patches for XP. Found one that allows XP wireless connection to WPA2. I installed the patch and was able to detect and connect wirelessly to Timecapsule from XP.
After two days, I have come to the firm believe (don't know the technical reasons why) that Timecapsule is a WPA2 device and that the XP patch is the only way to create initial connectivity. It is sort of ironic that although I wanted to connect wirelessly, I had to first connect via an ethernet hard connection.
Solve one problem, left with another. I have a Epson all-in-one scanner, printer, copier hooked to the Timecapsule. My iMac picks it up fine wirelessly but I am getting nothing on XP. Hopefully it is a simple driver download issue.

  • HP C4740 will not connect wirelessly to HP desktop

I have an old HP desktop (prob Pavillion) running Win XP Pro w/ SP 3.  I have 2 MB RAM.  I purchased an HP C4740 AIO printer about 6 months ago.  At first it hooked up fine and performed very well in wireless mode.  Then when replacing an ink cartridge one of the retainer tabs broke.  Long story short I had to replace the unit.  HP gladly did so and I got a brand new one.
When I got the new one I hooked it up and installed the software exactly per the instructions for use as a wireless printer.  Unfortunately, no matter what I do it will not connect to my wireless network.  The only way to use this printer is via USB cable.  Two things happen that I find interesting:  it does not recognize the printer (even thought it's connected by USB cable) and it doesn't recognize my wireless network (even though it does recognize another unknown network).  Even when I try to manually enter my network SSID and Passphrase it will not recognize it.  I have also tried unsecuring the network but still no success.
The network is secured but I have the SSID and passphrase information.  For reference, I have a Dell laptop and Lexmark printer that connect without issue.  My iPhone 4 connects without issue.  This C4740 will not.  I have uninstalled the software and even gone into the registery to locate and remove any entries associated with this printer.  Still nothing works in wireless mode.
Need help.  I am by no means a computer expert, especially with networking.  I know enough to be dangerous but still make it through the day!  I'm ready to toss this and pay the much higher price for the much more usable Lexmark!  Only problem is I'm just cheap enough that I'm willing to try to make this printer work.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Download the latest installer software for your printer on the link below and save it to the Desktop.
    ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software11/COL28119/mp-71555-3/PS_AIO_06_C4700_USW_Full_Win_enu_140_175...
Next download and install Revo Uninstaller from the link below.
    http://www.revouninstaller.com/download-freeware-version.php
Disconnect your printer from your PC.
Run revo and use it to uninstall your printer software.  Right click on the icon of the program you wish to remove and select Uninstall.  During the process you may be asked to delete registry entries, just select all and then click delete.  Do the same for any left over files and folders.  Once the uninstall has completed, reboot the PC.
Temporarily disable any security software ( Antivirus and Antispyware )
Now try running the software installer from your Desktop by double clicking the installer.  Do not connect the printer to the PC until the software asks ( Whether wired or wirelessly ).  If everything install Ok, remember to enable your security software.
    Hope this helps.

  • Brand New C309g will not connect wirelessly with ANY wireless security options enabled

Printer will connect via wired ethernet. I can use the http utility.
Printer will connect via unsecured wireless connection.
Printer defaults to autoconfig (169.xxx)when connected  via WEP (both open and shared), will not connect with a manual IP address. Cannot access http utility.
Printer won't even autoconfig when connected via WPA-Personal - instead says "No connection found."
Printer is in the same uncluttered room as the router.
ALL OTHER wireless network devices work fine and keep up with security changes.
I have legacy devices on the network that make me want to run with WEP.
I've run the HP Network Diagnostic. It can access my router just fine. It cannot find the printer.
    Router is D-Link DIR-655.
I jump through the right hoops - refresh router, restore factory defaults on printer, etc. All other wireless network devices work fine.

Ooops, my mistake.  Thanks for pointing it out.
Another idea is to make sure the firmware is updated on the router.
Also, from the control panel of the printer: Setup > Network > Wireless Network Test.  It will self-test the printer radio.

  • New iphone 5s will not connect wireless to itunes

I recently upgraded from 4s to 5s on 2 units.  The 4s would sync wireless to airport but both new 5s will not.  Neither my phone or my wife's phones will connect wireless but will when connected.  I have checked 'Sync with this iPhone over Wi-Fi'  under Summary when connected by cable and other system settings on the phones seem to be in order.  I have searched Apple site and believe all necessary steps have been taken.

I thought I should say something since I had the same problem with iTunes 11.1.3 connecting my iOS devices. iPhone 4, 5, iPad 4th gen, all on latest iOS7. My setup is on macpro 3.1. I tried updating OS, from  OSX Lion, ML and Mavericks. Obviously, updating OS did not solve the issue. iTunes was the latest and greatest at 11.1.3 on all of them. I also had the annoying TRUST message pop up constantly, while it could connect to iPhoto, but no iTunes, for backup and syncing.
Long story short, found out on various forums people were having success syncing their iOS devices again on previous versions of iTunes. In my case, 11.1. Going back to 10.7, it will not support iOS 7. For this, you need to delete iTunes 11.1.3.
I found this helpful, but beware it involves Terminal.
    http://osxdaily.com/2012/02/06/delete-itunes-mac-os-x/
Then, through good ol' google, I could fine a previous version of iTunes 11.1.
Installed it, connected my iPhone 5, and voilà, iPhone detected as before, and ready to backup and sync.
Spent many days researching this, it may not resolve the issue for everyone, but I hope it can help some folks running into a similar issue.

  • New router and can not connect wirelessly

Installed a new router that changed my security from a WEP to a WPA2. I have connected to the printer(7410) through ethernet cable and changed the security settings but the printer will not connect to my router. I am currently printing by ethernet cable hooked directly into the router. When i try to use the printer interface to cinnect to router the only option that comes up is WEP.
    Any ideas?

The printer will support WPA, but not WPA2.  It may have previously been connected to WEP and is expecting that.  Let's reset it:
From the front of hte printer: Setup > Network > Restore Network Defaults.  Now try the Wireless Setup Wizard from that same Network menu.

  • Officejet Pro 8100 will not connect wirelessly to my main PC

Was able to connect the printer to the wireless network and will print for a wireless laptop but am not able to select this printer by my main PC.  When asking it to add a new printer it finds the 8100 but freezes at that point and will not connect.  I have reloaded the driver software but the software also freezes when trying to locate the printer.

    Hello wsw1,
Welcome to the HP Forums! I understand the software keeps freezing when "Locating the Printer".
What is your operating system on this computer? Windows or Mac?
Try installing this software over a USB connection. Please follow this HP document on Installing Printers Software over a USB Connection.  Choose your correct operating system.
This will be a test, to verify if the software is able to successfully install without freezing. (Make sure you leave the USB cord out of the computer until it prompts you to connect.)
If you get this software installed on your computer, then try Convert from a USB connected printer to wireless.
Looking forward to hearing from you.

  • WPSM54G Just will NOT connect wirelessly

I've updated firmware and install wizard software, reset many times trying all sorts of different things and this print server just refuses to connect wirelessly.
I have connected via wire to my router (Actiontec - FIOS) and was able to print through the print server to my printer.
I set the IP address of the print server to static lease in my router settings and set the IP address on the router config page to static.
All tests fine... Until I remove the power and ethernet cord and plug back in to try wirelessly. The SSID is correct the WEP Key is correct, I am infrastructure and auto channel, all is correct.
However, once wireless, the server no longer connects to the router. Install wizard would fail with no connection also.
I have been all over the print server settings and my router settings, nothing at all. I have scoured Google and only dead ends or things I've already tried that didn't work. Anything else maybe?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

OK, after spending the whole day dinkering around with settings, reading, researching, I finally found what my problem was. Ambiguous Linksys manual!
In it, it clearly said that if one wants to use WEP key, they should select "Shared". Nope, when I selected "Open", that seemed to do the trick. Another things I did, which I don't think had anything to do with it but just in case.....
I disconnected the USB cable from the print server when pluggiong back in the power without the ethernet cable, to fire up the wireless.
Adding printers was funky too, I had to add a local computer, then add a new port and point to the IP address of my print server, select the driver from the list. Like this procedure from http://www.justanswer.com/computer-networking/3rier-wireless-print-server-wpsm54g-not.html
    <SNIP>
    2. Configure each client computer (Windows).
    (1) Control Panel, Printers
    (2) Right-click in a blank area of the window.
    (3) Choose Run as Administrator, Add a printer.
    (4) Add a local printer (not networked).
    (5) Create port. Standard TCP/IP port.
    (6) Give the address you chose earlier (I used 192.168.1.232). "Query the printer" will probably not work, but there's no harm in leaving it checked.
    (7) Assuming the querying failed, choose "Generic Network Card".
    (8) From the menu of printers, pick the one you have. Your Done!
    </SNIP>
On a Mac, I did this (from Gollum):
    http://homecommunity.cisco.com/t5/Print-Servers/WPSM54G-and-Macintosh/td-p/68170
I was adding a Brother HL5340D series printer and selected the B-Script3 drivers which worked.
So now everything is working. I'm sort of glad, but I wish I could get my day back  :/

After troubleshooting the following problem - BBLink does not recognize the Z10 wirelessly even though it is recognized by every thing else on the router's netowrk - I have discovered:
    (1) it works the first time you connect the phone wirelessly with BBLink
    (2) It does not connect to BBLink through wireless from then on.
    (3) The ONLY way (I tested everything I could think of or look up in the forums*) to establish the connection again is to do a battery pull.
    (4) Then the next time you try to establish a wireless connection to BBLink it does not connect (back to point 2 ...)
    *I tried:
    Rebooting computer
    Rebooting phone
    Rebooting wi-fi router
    Restarting BBLink
Re-install / repair existing installation of BBLink
Removing my Z10 from BBLink and setting it up from scratch
Activating / deactivating / reactivating all options in BBLink
Changing every "Setting" and option on the Z10 in regardes to wi-fi connections and applications using wi-fi to connect to my computer (they all work properly; i.e. I can use wireless to access folders on my computer, as setup using BBLink)
Uninstalling BBLink (and using a third-party program to scrub all files and registry entries)
    Clean install of BBlink

Are you saying that 802.11g cards were the first to support WPA?
Some disambiguation is needed. Speed is not the issue here, but WPA compatibility. I'm in the same boat. However, for about 6 months, my TiBook w/Original Airport Card did indeed connect using WPA (at 802.11b on a "b/g" network)...but no longer...others on these boards have had the same experience.

  • Moved desktop, will not connect wireless

I moved my desktop computer to another room. It had been connected to the router (on a cable modem) with an ethernet connection, but this will not work now, and I installed a Linksys wireless USB adaptor. The PC recognizes the Linksys network, but will not connect to it.

The router is a linksys sb...... , ver 3. I tried to use the cd that came with it, but cannot make any changes as the desktop must be connected to the internet for it to work. Another network does show up, but I am certain I am trying to connect to the proper one; my laptop computers work fine with the router. Is there such a thing as a wireless adapter that connects to the pc with an ethernet cable? This might solve the problem.

  • Wvc54gc not connecting wireless locally since updating firmware to V1.26

Pretty please help me.  I've read through many web posts about getting my wireless camera to work. But nothing seems to match my situation or I've tried it already.  The camera use to work wirelessly and then I decided to update the firmware to V1.26.  Now it only works hardwired, not even wireless locally.  I have 64-bit WEP enabled.  I've resetted to factory defaults and put in my information again.  I selected fixed IP.  I have a netgear router.
    Suggestions?

Was the issue resolved from this thread? I too am having this issue after upgrading recently to firmware v1.26. I disabled the security on my linksys wrt54g router and still cannot get the camera to get an ip wirelessly. When using a network cable it will get an ip and and I can access it using my browser. Can you please help me ? The camera used to work fine before upgrading the firmware.
