Uses for Oracle XE

Hello:
I was wondering whether Oracle XE would be sufficient for me to use for these two situations. The first, I'm doing a presentation to demonstrate Application Express. The second, I have a client with a small business. They want to store data which they gather from some forms. They also would like to be able to access the data and do some reporting.
Can Oracle XE give a good idea of the features of Application Express? And, is Oracle XE a good solution for a small business who doesn't have much capital at this time to invest in a full-blown version of Oracle?
I could use some advice.
Thank you.

Kind of pity, I cannot buy this book about XE from China, it is not avaliable.
I learned from Tutirial and docs.
I am using XE and APEX to manage our production, purchase orders, and a little bit of others, though my application skill not good, just a bunch of table and forms for input, report is just some views. no pl/sql, becase I cannot understand.
A little bit of triggers sometimes, just for filling some pks.

  • What kind of storage we should use for oracle database?

    Hi
    thank you for reading my post
    Can some one please explain what kind of hardware storage is common for oracle database, and kindly please provide some explanations about the reason that we can use such storage?

    Perhaps you're thinking about RAID, an acronym for Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks? That's not specific to Oracle by any means, it's a very common way of setting up multiple disks in a server so that the failure of one or two disks doesn't cause the system to lose any data. If you're dealing with a server of any size or any sort of SAN or NAS device, it is going to use RAID, the question is which form of RAID (there are different sorts of configurations with different levels of cost, performance, and durability).

  • QMF used for Oracle report

    QMF is tool for DB2 database reports , Can we use this for oracle db reprots? If yes how we can connect QMF with oracle db for reprot generation?

    Hi All,
    I found Solution for my question
    1) Why is there a limit? Why specifically 2 GB?
    The 32-bit file handling API used in Reports uses a signed long integer for
    addressing into any Operating System file. A signed long integer cannot hold
    a value bigger than +2 GB (hex 7FFF,FFFF or decimal 2,147,483,647).
    2) Why can Oracle not use 64 bit API calls to fix this, e.g. _lseeki64 on
    MS Windows 2000?
    _lseeki64 is not available on 32bit Unix Operating Systems, and is therefore
    not used. In any case the internals of Reports is built around a signed long
    integer as explained already. To make such a change even if _lseeki64 was
    available on all 32bit platforms would introduce too big a risk on the
    stability of the product.
    3) Why can Oracle not just use multiple files of 2gb or smaller, as opposed
    to 1 file bigger than 2 GB, for temporary storage?
    Oracle has investigated this in the past, and found a negative performance
    impact. It is not a trivial change to make, and to maintain performance and
    product stability at the same time would indicate a much bigger re-engineering
    effort.
    4) How does one work around this issue?
    Produce several smaller reports as opposed to one monolithic one. This is
    generally done by breaking up the run based on parameters. It is a sound
    idea to do this in any case, as any failure would mean that the whole
    report needs to be rerun. When this happens, it is less of a headache to
    rerun a smaller parameterised report.
    5) What future plans are there to address this?
    Note that our development group has indicated that this is not something
    that they hear much about. It would seem that most users follow the
    methodology as discussed above.

  • Can SQL Developer be used for Oracle Support "HTML Output" Diag Scripts ?

    Hi All,
    Oracle Support has asked me to run a diagnostic script (OTL_Diag.sql for anyone familar with the script) that produces output in HTML format using SQL*Plus to help troubleshoot an OTL problem we are having. Unfortunately I don't have SQL*Plus installed and my company is not on board with me installing it because of the SQL*NET connection required. Instead I have access to SQL Developer 3.1.0.7. While this works fine for most situations I'm having problems generating the required .html output file that Support needs.
    I've tried runing the OTL_Diag.sql a couple of ways using SQL Developer. First, I opened the file from SQL Developer and using the Run Script functionality (F5) I executed the code that way. This method did give me an opportunity to input the necessary parms and it did create the 'start' of the HTML file on my (Windows) file system, but the script seemed to abort with a java error that indicated some sort of format error (sorry, I'm not a java person so I can't provide any more info, but I'll be glad to get the exact error message if anyone thinks that will help solve my issue).
    My second approach was to open a SQL Window where I typed in @C:\OTL_Diag.sql without quotes. This approach also gave me the opportunity to enter the necessary input parms and it seemed to end normally. It also created the 'start' of the diaganostic output file on my Windows file system, but it 'completed' before any of the 'real' diaganostic output was written to the .html file.
    The Metalink note clearly specifies that the OTL_Diag.sql script is to be run with SQL*Plus 10.2 or above so I don't think I can complain too loudly to Oracle about this...but given that I don't have access to this product (and it is useless for me to again ask to install it) I am hoping someone out there has some ideas or insight as to how I can use SQL Developer to execute this diag script in a manner that will produce the required .html output file.
    Thanks in advance to anyone taking time to read my post !!

    >
    As a result, at this point in time my only available tool to run the OTL_Diag.sql script (provided by Oracle Support) is SQL Developer
    >
    Then you will have to edit the script, break it into pieces, execute each piece manually and save the output to feed into the next piece as required based on what the script is actually doing. Don't post the script or contents as that will likely violate your support agreement.
    As I already mentioned the script may be using syntax and/or commands that are simply not supported by sql*developer. One likely area is the script may be producing intermediate output scripts that are then processed by a later portion of the script. If that is the case then my suggestion to execute the pieces manually should work but you will need to do some trial-and-error to see.
    Even if you appear to be successful you will still have an issue when you communicate the results of your 'test' to Oracle support and they determine you didn't follow their instructions to use the proper tool.
    Sounds like your management is either ignorant or incompetent so I suggest you cover yourself by documentating the instructions from Oracle support and the direct orders you were given to disregard those instructions. No need to discuss that issue further but clearly there are resources available somewhere in the org that has the proper privileges or they wouldn't be able to maintain and support the database. If they want to pay for support they should heed their advice. Nuff said.

  • Modifying properties with a file for Web Service Stub used for Oracle Forms

    I have created a stubbed-out web service in JDeveloper (10.1.3.4) and imported into Oracle Forms.
    However, I would like to use a properties file to call the appropriate endpoint based on if the environment is dev, test, UAT or prod. I see that a properties file is referenced in the _Stub class. Here is a snippet of code from that class file:
    public CriticalChangeWS_Soap11_Stub(HandlerChain handlerChain) {
    super(handlerChain);
    setProperty(ENDPOINTADDRESS_PROPERTY, "http://epw-01.gds.graebel.com:8087/CriticalChange.svc/Soap11");

    setServiceName( new QName("http://tempuri.org/","CriticalChangeService"));
    setPortName( new QName("http://tempuri.org/","CriticalChangeWS_Soap11"));
    setupConfig("wsquery/proxy/runtime/CriticalChangeWS_Soap11_Stub.xml");
    How can I use the XML file to set the ENDPOINT_ADDRESS_PROPERTY?
    Thanks.

    Hi Frank,
    I got the following two lines of code just to check if WebServiceConnection was able to read the connections file alright.
                String urlString = wsc.getWsdlUrlStr();
                System.out.println("WSDL URL: "+urlString);
    I am not using urlString for further processing.
    The output is
    WSDL URL: http://<host>/PSIGW/PeopleSoftServiceListeningConnector/MyService.1.wsdl
    java.lang.NullPointerException

            at oracle.j2ee.ws.common.jaxws.runtime.GenericJavaType.create(GenericJavaType.java:118)
    The WSDL Url pointed to is the one that I configure in the connection while deploying the App.
    Ran a test and WSDL Url is accessible by the app.

  • Which ojdbc14.jar JDBC driver to use for Oracle 10g database

    When ODI is installed there seems to be an Oralce JDBC driver in place in the drivers folder (ojdbc14.jar).
    When we connect to an Oracle datastore and point to a table and use the 'reverse' function to populate the columns - it sort of works OK but does not bring back the datatypes properly. This is found to be when the Oracle table has UNICODE character datatypes NCHAR and NVARCHAR. If a table has CHAR and VARCHAR it is all OK but any table that has UNICODE datatyoe has a problem.
    Is this likely to be the JDBC driver ?
    We have tried replacing this ojdbc14.jar with the older classes12 and this, as expected, did not resolve the issue.
    We then tried replacing it with the latest 10.2.0.4 ojdbc14.jar but again no difference.
    Does anyone have any experience with Oracle JDBC drivers and what release level to use - and using against UNICODE datatypes in tables ?
    Regards

    Our problem is that when we use 'reverse' to populate the columns from a physicla table in an Oracle database - ODI is obviously 'seeing' the ORacle table and is correctly understanding the columns in the table and defining them in it's model - but wherever there is a column with a datatype in the ORacle database of NCHAR or NVARCHAR it fails to populate the datatype or the 'length' of these columns. If I manually try to specify the datatype these 2 unicode data types do NOT exist in the pull down list of datatypes.
    I see what you are asking - if these datatypes are actually defined as datatypes within the actual technology - I cant access my lab right now but will check as soon as I can. Thanks for the suggestion.

  • Which DB version to use for Oracle CMSDK

    Hi ,
    We are planning to upgrade our iFS 9.0.1 instance to CMSDK.The current configuration has
    1) iFS 9.0.1
    2) DB 9.0.1.1
    I'm wondering which is the best configuration for the upgrade.
    CMSDK(9.0.3)
    With
    1) 9.0.1 DB
    2) 9.2
    3) 9.2.0.3
    We tried 9.2 since it has significant bug fixes ,but we can't do late binding context search with this configuration due to bug. Has anyone tried the CMSDK with 9.2.0.3 Version.
    Looking forward for your replies.
    Thanks
    Rajesh Basawa

    Please read the installation guide for details:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/html/A96699_01/toc.htm
    It states that you may use Oracle Database version 9.0.1 or above, so I would say that you may use any of the 3 versions you suggest. The later version the better, so I would recommend 9.2.0.3.
    Just make sure you follow the installation guide and ensure that all database, hardware, and operating system requirements are met.

    These servers do not really exist. They are DNS trickery. So, it does not really matter what their names are. Everything to the left of pool.ntp.org is largely just for uniqueness at the client (your) end. There will be no issues if you continue to use them.
    Visit http://support.ntp.org/bin/view/Servers/WebHome to find a list of public sites willing for you to use them as time servers in case you want to change servers.

    How come you choose the thin driver? Oracle will generally

    give far superior performance when dealing with LOBs.We have actually had faster response getting thin driver fixes
    than OCI-based fixes. Thats interesting. I'll take note of it.
    The 10g driver works with RAC, is much faster than previous
    drivers, and is easier to install etc. OCI users are often

    These are from reading the results and recommendations of

  • Which version of JDeveloper should I use for Oracle Apps 11.5.10.2?

    I am developing a stand alone application using JDeveloper 10.1.3.3, because I don't want to use the OAF extension. Can I run this stand alone application using Oracle Applications server (Oracle Applications version 11.5.10.2)? If no, which JDeveloper version should I use? If yes, could you please provide some direction on the deployment of stand alone application? Thanks in advance.

    If you are using the application server that comes with Oracle Applications - you probably need to use the JDeveloper version that comes with that one too. (The OAF forum will have more info on this).
    If you are using JDeveloper 10.1.3 then you can use a stand alone OC4J 10.1.3 to deploy your applications - and save yourself the hassle of messing up with your apps server.

  • Most widely used operating system for oracle database

    hi,
    can anyone figure out which operating system is widely used for oracle database around the world.
    thanks and regards,
    Ashok

    I don't think you can safely pick one single operating system for Oracle.
    Over the years I have seen various Unix flavors, VAX/VMS, Windows and others being used to a great extent for running Oracle database.
    Picking one flavor will be tougher then having to program the database under any operating system it is made available.
