Usign two batteries together? Larger battery with better capacity?

I am considering to buy a MacBook, and operate it entirely on batteries. I'm electro-sensitive.
Is it possible to use two batteries together?
It it possible to have a larger battery which lasts more time?

It is not possible to install two factory batteries at the same time.
But, it is possible to use two batteries together (sort of).
For the PowerBook and iBook, there are after-market battery options that provide you with extended battery run-time.
Essentially, they are large and flat batteries that are approximately the same length and width as the iBook or PowerBook.
They are very thin, and essentially look like a small plate.
Basically, they plug into the iBook or PowerBook's power port, and provide it with power just as if it were plugged into the wall.
So, the computer believes that it is getting power from the wall adapter. Then, when that battery drains, it moves onto using the standard battery.
One such device is available here:
http://www.lindelectronics.com/cgi-bin/store/shop.cgi//ppack/x/dbxgen_ppackmfgs/
There are many different companies that I have seen selling these types of devices. So, you can look around.
I don't expect that there are any available for the MacBook or MacBook Pro yet (since they use a different style connector). But, I imagine that such an option will appear in the future.
Hope this helps.

    Hi mate,
    You can check this yourself on the Toshiba website where you can search for compatible accessories. Here you can find it:

    For example the PA3537U-1BRS battery is a 9cell battery and compatible with Satellite P300. You can order it from an authorized service provider! :)

  • Battery management for T440s (two batteries), with tpacpi-bat ?

    Hi everybody,
    the latest ThinkPad T440s has two batteries, one internal, one external.
    Now, i followed the guide to enhance battery lifespan, as described in the T420 wiki article.
    (https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Le … 0#Tp_smapi)
    But, with the two batteries, only one gets charged to the specified threshold, while the other one (probably the internal one ?)
    remains stuck at 51% ...
    Is there a way to charge both batteries to threshold, without physically removing one ?
    Regards,
    N
    EDIT: Ok, just found out that tp_smapi isn't really supported at all, so what i'm talking about are the tpacpi-bat scripts ...

    My machine will charge the internal battery to somewhere around 70%, then charge the removable battery pretty much all the way, then come back and top off the internal.  It does this without any scripts or attempts to control battery thresholds.  The firmware alone handles this.
    I do have various powertop recommended settings that allow for longer battery life.  But as far as attempting to control battery thresholds, I figure that all batteries wear out eventually... and that takes a bit, so why not just allow them to do what the firmware intends?

    I have owned an Acer aspire S7 191 "11.6" for few weeks and it is a wonderful invention by Acer engineers. i am really puzzled as to why you have discontinued this model.I think it needs few adjustments and you need to release it with these refinements. if you look at dell XPS 13 with infinity display and QHD resolution you can see that they have achieved simillar form factor but with much better specs.Acer S7 191 needs the following improvements.latest CPU i7 with turbo boostat least 512gb SSD if not 1TB ssd model rate zerothinner bezels with more screen size possibly 13" with WQHD displayled indicator for caps on button.most importantly much larger battery capacity 9hrs-12hrsbetter key travel for key board.love the bluish/green light on the keyboard but it needs to be brighter.the bezels of the edges needs to be champered to give it a smoother better feel instead of sharp corners.keep the branding on as it is with aluminum bodyimproving the touch pad slightly for better responsiveness to gestures.if you guys can acieve this you will have a killer notebook on your hands. i know you guys are not scared of trying new ideas but you have developed a brilliant notebook. the only notebook that can compete with apple 11.6 macbookair. lenovo have tried it with their spectre 360 but failed, it just doesnt have that specialness about it. where as the Acer S7 191 is a wonderful notebook and deserves to be refresshed with much better specs.everyone who sees my notebook wants to buy one. the only let downs are that its not up to date with current CPU and memeory and most importantly battery life.so please acer listen to your customers and get a refresh out for the 11.6 inch Acer S7 please.kind regardsAsifLondon, UK

    Thanks for writing, Osteo.  So you have the S7-191 notebook, which is our very first iteration of the S7 series.  We have released several newer models of S7 since then that are better, faster, etc.  Check out our website and see how close we came to what you want.    Thanks!

  • Dynamically parent two layers together with expressions

    In AECS6, I have an Image Layer that is using the layer directly above as a Alpha Matte. I want both layers to scale at the same time, unless a certain condition is setup where I only want the matte to scale - leaving the image at original size. Normally I'd just make a new pair of layers and only scale that, but ALL my layers are dynamically linked to eachother for another more complex effect.
    I wrote a simple expression to get the current scale of the matte layer (index-1), and then calculate what this particular layer's scale should be. But the scales don't match up just right because we are dealing with percentages... not absolute values. However, if I simply parent the two layers together, it of course works.
    So, I either need to find a way to turn the parenting on/off with code, like if THIS, then ParentTo(index-1), or I need to write my scaling script correctly.
    Fwiw- here's that script:
    if (index != 15)) {
      // get the original and current scale value of the layer just above, and calculate an offset
              sOrig = thisComp.layer(index-1).transform.scale.valueAtTime(0)[0];
              sNow = thisComp.layer(index-1).transform.scale[0];
              sOffset = value[0] + (sNow - sOrig);
              [sOffset,sOffset]
    } else {
    // this is layer index 15, don't do anything with it
              value;
    Appreciate the help!

    Not sure what you are getting at, but the actual value ranges do not really matter in an expression. It's more likely you are eitehr having an anchor point issue or your keyframes are simply not linear. in the latter case of course a simple subtraction would not give the correct result because values would be exponential/logarithmic/whatever. You'd have to use much more complex code then to accumulate all values over time such as the great Dan Ebberts explains on his website:
    http://www.motionscript.com/articles/speed-control.html
    Anyway, I suppose you could always use effects rather than native transforms to scale your matte while still leaving it parented. Y' know, there is a Transform effect... That would be much simpler and also avoid the expression evaluation bogging down your system...

  • Simoultaneous drain for two batteries

    Hi,
    I use a T420s with system battery and ultrabay series 3 battery. Since the machine - as all Thinkpads - first drains the ultrabay battery to 0%, then starts draining the system battery, my ultrabay batteries tend to live a short and cruel life and lose capacity very soon. Example: after 30 cycles or so, 30% of the capacity is gone - much more than you would lose if you discharged both batteries simultaneously and started charging both batteries at say 10% instead of draining it to zero.
    Now, for linux, there's a script that does exactly this, cf. http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/How_to_use_Ultrabay_batteries . This prooves that it is technically  possible to make the batteries drain simultaneously. (And there's also a good explanation for why one would want to do it that way.)
    I'm asking for the integration of a "switchable" draining setting for simultaneous/subsequential draining of the two batteries into the power managing tool, BIOS or whichever way of integration you prefer.
    Regards,
    - elarei, Germany

    I've been asking for that too, and agree that it is a great idea.  I wish I could tell you that we had plans to implement such a feature, but right now, I can't
    But draining the battery to 0% isn't really 0% capacity of the battery.  The 100% charge of the battery is normally 4.2 volts.  The 0% charge state is really 3.0 volts.  So when the battery reports 0% it is not really zero volts because the cell must be kept at higher state of charge for the health of the battery.  The battery firmware is intelligent enough not to let the battery discharge to a point where the battery health is impacted.
    Having said that if you are really losing 30% capacity after 30 cycles, there is something wrong with your battery and I think you should be able to get it replaced under warranty.
    Sorry I don't have better news about your feature request, it really is a great idea and I wish we were working on it.

  • The dreaded battery with blue streak strikes again...

    BlackBerry Pearl 8130 Sprint w/ latest updates.
    Ok so went to the beach today and had the phone fully charged. so I went out there and left it on the beach for about 2 hours, face down inside a bag. The bag and phone were pretty darn hot when I came back but the battery at that point didn't seem affected. So I went on with my day texting, calling and what not. So the battery goes into the "red" 20% area and I put it face down on the ground again and this time the sun wasnt touching it.
    I came back 20 mins later and the phone was all the way off with the red light blinking intermittently. so I figure ok I'm out of battery, I have to wait till i get home to charge. This is where the problem begins. I let it sit on the OEM wall charger for about 15-20 mins and nothing happened. I found this weird since I've drained the battery to the point of it shutting down to conserve power. so I take a look and press the start button, try holding it, and nothing, so I do a battery pull and nothing. At this point im freaking out a little thinking about how hot the phone had gotten earlier in the day.
    So....here I am after having taken the battery out, plugging in the phone, waiting for the no battery symbol, and plugging it back in to get the battery with the blue streak across it. I left it alone for another 20 mins just in case it really was that drained and nothing. I plugged it into the computer and the computer recognizes it for about 15 secs, loads the usb driver and then just disconnects. The odd thing is, I have to use a flashlight to see the icons on the screen, like the backlight flashed once when I first plugged in the phone and hasnt come on since. Am I screwed or what? I'd rather not have to do a "O.S. nuke" but if that's the only choice...I'm getting my friend to lend me his battery tomorrow to see if it's the phone or battery that's screwed. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Leave the device to charge 2-3 hours, and then, still connected to the USB cable, remove the the battery from the device a few seconds and reinsert it. If it boots--leave it to charge to 100% (check Options > Status for the percentage).
    I just revived two devices with batteries that had been sitting dead for two months, this way.
    Be patient, let it charge. Make sure you are using a charging source (wall, auto or PC/USB that you have known to charge correctly in the past).

  • Which battery is better?

    So I have two black macbooks, same specs. I want to keep one and sell the other. Though it may seem sleezy, I want to keep the better battery (since I guess I can switch between them). Is there a way to tell (besides just timing each and letting the battery drain) which battery is better/has been used less/etc.
    Thanks

    To expand on Templeton's post:
    System Profiler is in Applications>Utilities. Click on the Power option in the left-hand column. Check the Battery information.
    As Templeton said, you want the battery with a higher Full Charge Capacity and lower Cycle Count.

  • Disolving two sound together

    What is the best method to disolve two sound together on one sound timeline?
    Dan

    It depends on (a) whether the sounds are fairly nondescript, e.g; just people chattering, (b) how closely they must be kept "in sync" (synchronised, in step) with the video, (c) if the sounds came into iMovie separately from the video, etc.
    Here's an example: if you have two video clips, complete with sound, of people chattering, you can simply add a Cross Dissolve transition between those two video clips. The sound will dissolve, too.
    But when you add a Dissolve of, say, three seconds between two video clips, then the first three seconds of the 2nd video clip and the first three seconds of sound on that clip will disappear, or get used up, in the Dissolve. So if there's something important at the start of the 2nd clip you may need to use a very quick Dissolve, so that not too much of it gets "eaten away" when it's laid on top of the last second(s) of the 1st clip.
    A better way is to select the video clips which you may be going to dissolve between, and then use "Advanced" and "Extract audio" to 'Extract' the audio from those clips before doing any dissolving.
    ['Extracting' the audio just makes a copy of the audio and puts it in an audio track beneath the video, and 'Locks' the audio to its parent video clip. The original audio within the video clip still remains, but it's automatically muted down to zero volume level.]
    You can then adjust the separate audio as much as you want by selecting an audio clip, clicking on "View" and "Show Clip Volume Levels", and then you can click on any part of the straight-line volume level, within an audio clip, to "anchor" the level, then drag it down to whatever you want.
    (..It's all described in Apple's online iMovie audio-editing Help here, as part of all the other iMovie Tutorials here..)
    By sliding two audio clips closer together, or even overlapping them, you can create a smooooth transition from one audio clip to the next. But dragging an audio clip may drag it "out of sync" with its parent video clip. You may have to decide if it's OK or not to 'lose' some video if you pull it in closer towards a previous clip, so as to keep it in sync with the audio dissolve you've made.
    You might decide to 'insert' some extra bit of video (..a 'cutaway' shot..) and then shorten that so that the region of video which you do want to keep will stay in sync with your audio after you've made an audio dissolve.
    Here's a little 'thumbnail image' of how you can adjust the volume of two 'Extracted' audio clips by altering their audio levels:
    To see it more clearly, click here and then click on the 'Start Slideshow' button.
    (..The picture shows two video clips, Original Clip A and Original Clip B. Just before creating a transition between them, think how long you want the transition to be, say two seconds, and then cut the two clips at a bit more than two seconds from their ends, making Sub-clip A and Sub-clip B.
    Then Extract the audio from those two sub-clips. To make things easier, drag one of the audio clips onto the lower audio track.
    The audio clips are now isolated from the video clips. Apply your Dissolve, or whatever, to the two video Sub-clips.
    Adjust the levels of the two audio clips to get the perfect dissolve..)

  • Torch 9800 battery with red X

    hi i have a 9800 torch when i place the phone on charge, the red led light turns on 4 like 10seconds then turns off thereafter a battery sign with a red x appears over it, i have tried another battery with no luck.i have connected it to a pc and the pc detects the phone and pin.im not sure if its hardware or software,tried to upgrade software but the phone disconnects at the "reconnecting to RVM" part. PLZ HELP

    Leave the device to charge 2-3 hours, and then, still connected to the charging cable, remove the the battery from the device a few seconds and reinsert it. If it boots--leave it to charge to 100% (check Options > Status for the percentage). If it doesn't reboot on the first attempt, leave it several more hours. I've had one charge for two days before it came back to life after an extreme battery depletion. Every 3-4 hours, with the device still connected to the charger, you can remove and replace the battery to see if it reboots.
    If it doesn't boot--try using another wall outlet charger or just another wall outlet. If you are connected via USB to the PC, make certain that you have Desktop Manager (or the USB device drivers) installed.
    Make certain your USB cable is connected to one of the PC's main rear USB ports. Not a USB hub, nor a monitor USB port, nor a USB port on the front of the PC.

  • Useless Batteries Due to Battery Reset

    I recently purchased two used OEM Lenovo extended capacity batteries or my 15" Widescreen T61.  Because the ThinkVantage power management  indicated it would take several hours to reset the battery gauge, I told my nephew to do this for the two new batteries and the battery thst came with the computer. Upon doing so, all of my batteries are useless and cannot be charged even though they were all in good condition before the reset. Is the anything I can do to the batteries or to the computer to enable them to charge again? When trying to charge any of them the charging light just flashes. Please help! Thanks!

    I recommend getting genuine batteries with panasonic cells. They usually sell at a premium if you can find them, but well worth it.
    Be very careful with generics, many are smuggled into the country in person to person shipments and haven't been inspected to assure they are safe. Some even have fake lenovo logos on them so be careful. If you do get a generic, get it from a trusted manufacturer or importer, not from an auction site.
    ps. I always deep cycle charge used batteries, sometimes it kills them, sometimes it improves them. If it kills them, they were about to die anyway. Also be sure you have a genuine AC adapter when doing this.

    Some things are mixed up here, seemingly...
    I seem to have two Apple ID's attached to my e-mail.
    An Apple ID is a valid email address, apparently. How can those be "attached to your email"... what email?
    Facetime will not verify my e-mail address because it is associated with the other account.
    This doesn't make sense. You can register multiple, even non-Apple-ID, email addresses and their aliases with FaceTime.
    So, maybe you can explain your problem better - what you want and the steps you've taken and what you have so far. If something doesn't work, please tell the exact error message, too.
