Using 1.5 with Dreamweaver CS3
Hello,
What are the pros and cons of replacing Spry 1.4, bundled
with DW CS3, with the 1.5 prerelease?
In our company, we've never used Spry before but plan to do
that with a new project we're working on. Is it better to use (and
learn) v1.5 instead the spry code that comes with DW?
Any side effects on Dreamweaver functionality?
Regards
Hello sakisp,
The Pros are:
- lots of bugs were fixed
- lots of new features added (Data + Widgets + Effects)
- code improved for performance
- we did some structural changes and deprecated some of the
API, however we remained DW compatible. If you start using Spry 1.5
you won't have to migrate any of your page to the new version.
- improved the samples, documentation and demos.
The Cons are:
- the upgrade procedure may generate some problems and we
don't have an automate way to make this update:
http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/webforums/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=602&threadid=1269066&fo rumid=72
- none of the new features in Spry 1.5 have a DW CS3
integration so you'll have to code some of the things by hand.
We worked as hard as possible and the Spry 1.5 is fully
compatible with the Dreamweaver Spry version. This was one of our
goals for this release to make sure the thinks will still work
after the release.
Basically I consider the upgrade a good thing, specially if
you start now from scratch with the Spry. Just make sure you read
carefully the previous post with the upgrade procedure in DW.

Cristian MARIN

CVS / subversion with dreamweaver CS3
Hello,
I am working on a few projects that require code versioning
and I have been told by many people that CVS is the way to go.
Is there a way to integrate CVS with dreamweaver CS3?
Has dreamweaver CS3 native support for any repository system
type??
There are some free gpl plugin/add-on for CVS/ repository
support?
Thanks a lot"FMorales_at4" <[email protected]> wrote in

Some may say SubVersioN is the way to go, it's been
redesigned to address
some shortcomings in CVS

Dreamweaver has native support for Microsoft Visual
SourceSaFe
Dreamweaver can use WebDAV repositories natively, and you can
use apache as
a WebDAV frontent for SubVersion.

git/gitHub supported or can used together (linked) with dreamweaver cs6? what is version control?
server folder, web url fields,...when define a LOCAL HOST SERVER what must insert? I have XAMPP...htdocs/ win7...?It is best to download scripts from Github and save them in your local site folder.
To set-up a local testing server in DW see screenshots below. Replace C:\wamp\www\ with xampp\htdocs
Make sure Xampp is running.

Contribute CS4 with Dreamweaver CS3
I have a number of sites created with Dreamweaver CS3, and
intend to provide update access with Contribute - but Contribute
CS3 is now hard to get hold of. Will these sites work with
Contribute CS4 if developed with DW CS3: general functions such as
editable sections, checkin/checkout. I don't want to upgrade my
systems yet to CS4.
CS4 suite has much higher system requirement than CS3 - which
probably means a hardware upgrade first - so want to avoid this.
Can't find any info on this anywhere.
ThanksI just read on the adobe website that:
"Contribute CS4 works with Adobe Dreamweaver® CS4
templates"
Does that mean it wont work with Dreamweaver CS3 templates? -
Can someone with Dreamweaver cs3 open a cs5 file?
Hi:
Work just upgraded me to DreamWeaver CS5 but I work on files that I share with another web author and they have DreamWeaver CS3. If I edit a file and save it in DreamWeaver 5, will the other author be able to open the file in DreamWeaver CS3? I have not loaded my new software at work yet because I was afraid there might be a problem. This is our work intranet so I need to be careful I don't screw the site up. We save our files with the extension .shtml.
Thanks
JeffYes, provided you use DW's Check In/Check Out feature so that you don't overwrite each other's work.
There are no proprietary file formats like Microsoft Office.
HTML code is HTML code and can be read by any human being or text editor.
The only caveats are if you use emerging technologies such as HTML5. CS5 can handle that but CS3 will struggle. -
Bypassing Firewall/Proxy Settings with Dreamweaver CS3
Hello,
The company that I work for has given us Dreamweaver CS3 and
it's great, however we have a problem with the companies firewall
blocking Dreamweaver from seeing external images when in "Design"
view. I have search throughout Google for a solution and have yet
to find one. I come here in the hopes that someone can help. Our IT
department has told me that the firewall solution they use does not
allow rule sets per application, so they cannot just say "allow
this program to use the web". This leaves me in a tough spot, but
they said in Dreamweaver CS3 has a way to setup a proxy and allow
it to bypass our firewall that would make this quick and easy. Does
DW have something like this, and if so then please point me in the
right direction!
I appreciate all assistance.
Regards,
JohnMaybe not per application but certainly by PC or IP adress.
Can they put
your IP adress in a rule less agressif.

Dang Frustrated with Dreamweaver CS3!
For the past 23 years I have taught myself all the computer
programs I use from Freehand, Photoshop, lllustrator, Indesign,
plus many others yet I rarely had to look up something in a book
and get the answer.
Not so with Dreamweaver!
I can't seem to get anywhere with this program. I have
learned much over the last 2 years I have been using it but I am
NOWHERE NEAR where I want to be. This has been the hardest program
there is for me to learn because of all this stupid code. Go ahead
call me a designer and not a programmer because it is true. I hate
code and after 2 years of this program I hate it even more. I just
want it to do what i want it to do and use visual commands only to
get there!
Can't they simplify the program for us stupid designer types?
I have several books on the program and even subscribe to
Lynda.com for their advice but even after going over the same
module 3 times I still don't have it right.
I just want to take a file from Photoshop CS3, slice it up
and bring it into Dreamweaver and HAVE IT WORK RIGHT! Something
always goes wrong and hours and hours of wasted time is spent in a
fruitless search for what happened in trying to fix it. I have
posts in other forums about this issue but no one has given me any
answers.
Can someone please tell me where to find this answer? The
issues is I just can't deal with those stupid white spaces that
show up when the text goes beyond the slice area from Photoshop.
Here is an example:
http://www.westshorecashloans.com/
Surely there is an answer out there! I have wasted over 3
weeks of work on this one issue and it still isn't solved.
Please, please, PLEASE someone help me find it!
Thanks

DW is neither a DTP nor a WYSIWYG program, even if many
people still
believe that. Without a solid understanding of what HTML and
CSS are
and how they work, you won't be able to do anything useful
with DW.
> Can't they simplify the program for us stupid designer
types?
Why should they? In fact there are other, much more simple
tools for the
"stupid designer types", where you can more or less click
together your
website. But the results are almost always beyond good and
evil. You get
what you pay for.
With every tool you first have to learn how to use it. If I
would go to
the next construction site and ask the guy if I could try the
pneumatic
hammer, what do you think would he say? He would either laugh
at me or
directly call the guys with these nice white jackets.
Same thing with DW. If you don't know how to properly use it,
you can't
do anything good with it, you'll just waste your time or even
shoot your
own foot. Why are there so many broken or even insecure
websites, which
are easy to hack and can be abused for a lot of bad things?
Because many
people don't really know what they are doing and try to make
the second
step before the first one.

to Lynda.com for their

Forget it. This will _never_ work right, simply because this
is not how
the web works. Your approach might work for PDFs or other
fixed size
image-based things, but never for a website. The web is
flexible.
> Can someone please tell me where to find this answer?
The answer is either to learn HTML and CSS first before even
thinking
about starting DW or to focus on your own skills and
capabilities as a
designer and ask someone else to turn them into a website.

My setup is:-
DW CS3
CF MX 7
Windows 7 workstation
Windows 2003 development server
Local area network
I am having a problem with DW CS3.
A site I have used for some weeks has suddenly started misbehaving.
When trying to access a CF 7 data source binding I get :-
"In order to view the columns of this recordset, please associate the variable (#application.dsn#) with a data source. To do this, press the plus button and choose Data Source Name Variable."
When I try and associate my application.dsn with a data source none are seen in the drop down.
I compared the site to another site which is working fine and I can't see any difference in the setup.
I have cleared the site cache and removed the data connections from within DW. (menu, Site => Advanced)
I tried completely recreating the site copying only the cfm files into a new directory.
I tried removing the configs from the Appdata cache/config.
I tried reinstalling Dreamweaver.
I've used this set up for years, but that doesn't mean to say I haven't missed something obvious - very rusty.
Any ideas as to what is wrong, please?
Thanks,
JennyAwesome community. Well done, Adobe! About as useless as your support department.

Getting Started with Dreamweaver CS3
I just purchased Dreamweaver CS3 online but have not yet
received it. I need to get a website up quickly but have never used
Dreamweaver. Can anyone point me to tutorials or other information
that I can review in advance? I tried to download a free trial of
dreamweaver 8 (CS3 not yet a available), assuming the
interface/functionality is similar, but can't find anything.
Any help that can get me quickly started is much
appreciated.I really want to emphasize this excellent suggestion from
Geoff. I know you
are anxious to get started, but make sure you do that with an
extreme bias
towards learning the underlying HTML and CSS. The more you
know about this,
the shallower your learning curve with DW will be.

Is this possible With dreamweaver cs3
I am a photographer and for my future website I would really
like a feature where the viewer can click on the photo and it flips
over, and on the back I will have type/fonts explaining the photo.
I want to be able to add/edit the type when needed. I have never
designed a website but i am going to take classes to learn. Can
Dreamweaver CS3 do this or any other program? Any help would be
greatly appreciated.A simpler solution (no flipping) would be to use a photo
album generating
ware like JAlbum. It's free and you can add as many
comments/details as you
wish which will get picked up by the search engines. Many
skins read
digital info such as shutter speed, camera settings from your
camera. A
newer feature is GPS which provides maps to the location
shoot. JAlbum was
designed for photographers. It is very flexible with
customizable CSS and
skins. Best of all, it generates the thumbnail images and
html pages for
you so you don't have to. If you have many photos, this
software will save
you several hours of time. A+++

Contribute CS3 incompatible with Dreamweaver CS3
All my Conribute connections no longer work with DW CS3 &
CT CS3. Why?
1. I have correctly set up a remote connection in Contribute.
The contribute connection to the website IP is established.
2. The FTP connection from DW to the website IP is also
correctly established and working.
3. The connection information is identical for both
applications and verified.
4. PROBLEM: When trying to set up the Contribute connection
from within DW, the following error msg appears: "Dreamweaver could
not connect to the remote server. You cannot perform Contribute
administration tasks without a connection to the remote server.
Please fix the remote connection before proceeding."
5. NOTE: When the "Administer Site in Contribute" (or Test)
button is clicked in DW, it appears that several files are being
loaded to the remote server before the error message appears.
Subsequent attempts at clicking the buttons seems to load more
files. Very weird.
6. FACTS: There is no problem with the remote connection from
either DW or CT.
QUESTION: What's up with this message? Why is there a failure
to communicate between these two application that wasn't there
before?
Thanks in advance for any assistance,
Chris KaneHave you found an answer for this. I am in a similar
situation, in CS3 Mac. If I use www.mysite.com/www, which is the
folder for ftp purposes, I get:
Dreamweaver could not find a page at the specified site root
URL. Please check the site root URL.
If I just go to the main url, www.mysite.com, I get:
Dreamweaver could not connect to the remote server. You
cannot perform Contribute administration tasks without a connection
to a remote server. Please fix the remote connection before
continuing.
I've tried it on another site I administer and it worked
fine, so I'm wondering if it's something to do with the
configuration of the server, but my hosts haven't got any answers
either...
Any pointers gratefully received. -
I'd like to build a news-oriented website that takes
advantage of Dreamweaver's design capabilities, but utilizes a
Content Management System.
The goal is to build a dynamic site that will be updated with
5-10 new items per day, and have those live in a searchable
database.
Can anyone recommend a CMS that works well with Dreamweaver?
Or offer any other suggestions as to how to achieve that goal with
CS4 as the backbone?Hi Paula,
I have not personally used either of these on a production
system, but
there are some extensions available to integrate with
Dreamweaver:
Drupal:

WordPress
http://www.themedreamer.com/
Be sure to search around because I am sure there are more.

Fireworks CS6 with Dreamweaver CS3
Is it possible to buy only Fireworks CS 6 and can it be used together with Dreamweaver CS 3?
That might depend on whether you go back and forth between the two programs or whether you export out of Fireworks and work on the HTML in Dreamweaver. If it's the latter it should work. Fireworks has been 'killed off' by Adobe so there won't be any versions after CS6, I would imagine you can still download it from their website though.

Integrating Lightroom Flash Gallery with Dreamweaver CS3
I have been unsuccessfully attempting to edit the gallery files created by Lightroom from within Dreamweaver. The index.html file comes up with this message when opened:
Sorry, this photo gallery requires that scripting be enabled on your web browser and that the Macromedia Flash Player be installed. Download the Macromedia Flash Player
However, I have the player installed...
I have tried uploading the files directly to my server from Lightroom but they do not display. The loading icon whirls endlessly and never resolves.
Does anyone have any advice.
Thanks in advance. You can't edit a flash gallery with Dreamweaver.
To make changes to the LR flash gallery you would require a copy of the original fla file and a copy of Flash to edit it.
The index file you see is the one that loads the flash player to play your gallery. The message is what is seen in a browser that doesn't have flash player installed.
You can make amendments to the gallery itself by changing the xml files, although the changes you can make here can also be made in LR itself so why bother?
You can embed the gallery itself in your own html page. Using insert, media and then finding the gallery.swf file. As long as you then upload everything in the correct locations (including the scrippt files abd the new html file in the same folder structure it will work.
There are other flash galleries that are far easier to embed available. However in order to make serious changes to flash galleries of any type you will require the original fla file and most designers are not going to give you that! Adobe does give away the fla's for the galleries that ship with PS. -

Where? Surely you are misinterpreting that - it has Spry

but a much better choice even than those exists.
