Using 1 Mac with 2 NICs on different networks

Sorry to re-hash an old topic but I haven't been able to find an answer that has worked for me. I currently have a MacBook Air with 2 network interfaces (Airport and USB ethernet). I work at a place where all of our e-mail and Internet traffic is done through wireless direxct to the Internet so I use the airport for this. My USB ethernet NIC is hard wired into the corporate network at the customer's site and is used for internal websites and certain shared drives.
Currently, I have the airport as the top preferred network so Internet traffic is working just find for that in OSX and I have a virtual machine set up with the ethernet card directly assigned to it and this lets me use the customer's network for my other work. I'd like to ditch the virtual machine altogether. The airport is the primary connection and it gets its DNS entries from the woreless router. The ethernet port also gets a DHCP address and has the customer's 2 DNS server entries in it.
How can I get OSX to use the wireless for all traffic (basically everything over the Internet) and then use the ethernet connection for all the customer's websites and shared drives (including resolving DNS entries). Am I going about this the wrong way and I should be making the ethernet port primary and anything external goes through wifi? Thanks for any help you can give.

No, nothing will prevent the computer from going to sleep when you close its display except third-party hacks that are designed to do exactly that. I strongly advise against using any of those, as they may interfere with successful entry into clamshell mode (and they carry other downside risks as well). Just wait until the computer is asleep (with its sleep light pulsing), then press any key on the keyboard. It sounds as though your setup is working as it's designed to do.

RReset printing system again and the restart in Safe Mode . This will clear some caches,to do this hold down the Shift key when you hear the startup tone until a progress bar appears, after it has fully booted restart normally and add the printer.

Computer support for that type of equipment is completely up to the company making/selling the embroidery software, not the computer builder. A Mac likely could support any such device BUT the device makers must choose to include Mac software versions. Many specialty software developers are about 15 yeas in the past and thing no one uses Macs, or they are doing the project on a shoestring budget and would have to hire someone on the outside to port the program to Mac.
As that function is likely of very narrow interest around here, I think you would do better to visit some of the embroidery sites and see if they mention products with known Mac support.
Otherwise you will have to find the sites for every embroidery machine maker to look for mention of Mac support.

You need and external drive to make a clone of your current installation of OS X. Then you can use DIsk Utility (Apps/Utilities) to divide the internal drive into two partitions. Doing so will erase the drive, which is why you need the clone so you don't loose everything. Then copy the clone to one partition to restore everything and use a Snow DVD to install it on the 2nd partition.

Use multiple Macs with same .Mac account to edit different sites

Last year our school purchased a .Mac account to host our school website. All of the teachers had been using the same .Mac account and using iWeb to publish their own sites. Because all the sites had different names, there were no publishing problems. That changed with iWeb 2. We experimented with the new iWeb 2 on a couple workstations and discovered that publishing to the same .Mac account on different Macs resulted in sites being overwritten by the computer that was published the most recently. What's confusing to me is the that sites were being overwritten even though the sites had different names. In other words, teacher "Jones" publishes their web named "jones" to .Mac. Teacher "Smith" then publishes their web named "smith". The result... the Jones web gets deleted and overwritten by Smith. In iWeb 1x, all the sites had their own named folders organized nice and neatly, now, no matter what we do, we still get the same overwritting issue. I can understand this happening if the sites all had the same name, but this is not the case.
This had been a great way for our teachers to easily publish their own pages, unfortunately they won't be able to take advantage of the new features in iWeb 2, if this isssue isn't resolved. Any help would be very much appreciated.

You've got a mess on your hands with only one iDisk being used and dozens of versions of the Domain.sites2 (made by iWeb) in use.
If all used the same version of the Domain.sites2 package things would work. That would mean sharing that same file each time anyone edited it between all users.
You could do that but eventually someone will make a change and fail to move to all users and the Site could get messed up at publishing.
If all of the teachers used the same machine and user account they could also upload to one iDisk.
Last would be to publish to folder and upload using the Finder for each user. Those pages would not include some .Mac specific features.

Using two Macs with differing OSs.   Password refused on one for purchases/updates

I'm running an old MacPro with OS10.5.8 and a 27" i7 iMac withOS10.9.5 which I use for working in FCPX.   The older MacPro still had FCP6 in use.    For a little while now Apple refuses to recognise my password for their store downloads and updates.    As I don't gain in any way by using these two differing OSs, is there a way to get Apple to accept my circumstances -and allow my excess to their Store and iTunes from either machine, please?

Using a Mac with a proxy server

Hi I’m very new to Macs to apologies if this is a really silly question. I’m
trying to setup a Mac on our network and I’m having an issue getting it to work
properly with our proxy server. I have connected the Mac to the network and
selected automatic proxy configuration in the network settings using the URL of
our Pac file. I am asked for a proxy username and password when I initially try and
access a website but once I have entered my credentials they are saved in
keychain and anyone coming after me can browse using my account. I work in a
hospital so there are many different people accessing different devices. We
monitor and trace all users internet browsing so my question is can I configure
the Mac to ask for proxy credentials for different users? On our windows devices
a login box will appear if the browser has been closed and reopened. Can I do
this with the Mac?????

Do NOT store the proxy server username and password in Keychain.
Easy to say, but by default, the next person to enter their password is likely to store their username password in the Keychain.
You can use Applications -> Utilities -> Keychain Access to give the Keychain a separate password and to auto-lock it after 'n' minutes. If you are the only one to know the Keychain password, then no one will be able to add the Proxy server username/password to the keychain.
Keychain Access -> Edit -> Change Settings for Keychain Login...
Keychain Access -> Edit -> Change Password for Keychain Login... (this is NOT required; you can keep the keychain set to use the same password you use for your login, as long as no one else knows that password; changing the settings to lock the keychain is sufficient for your needs)
The good news is that only you will be able to access stuff stored in the Keychain. The bad news is that if you do need stuff in the Keychain, you will need to enter the keychain password everytime you need to get at them.

Using authorized-hosts with multiple NICs

I'm trying to limit cluster/grid membership using the authorized-hosts attribute, and I need to specify which Ethernet port is used when I start Coherence (or which one(s) to ignore). We have a "private" network setup that we want to run Coherence on, and the default NIC/port 0 is not part of that network.
So I need to tell Coherence to use a specific port when it starts and not just the first IP port/address it finds. Is there a way to specify which NIC/IP address Coherence uses when it creates/joins the cluster?
Following is the override file I place into tangosol-coherence-override.xml. This file is in the classpath before coherence.jar when i start my JVM.

Hi Stacy,
it is possible to bind all Coherence traffic to a single network interface using the -Dtangosol.coherence.localhost=xxx.yyy.aaa.bbb and -Dtangosol.coherence.localport=xyzab which specifies which ip address and port to use for sending and receiving.
Alternatively you can use an operational configuration override file which specifies the unicast-listener configuration element (see the link for more information).
You may would also need to specify the -Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack Java property if your operating system/kernel also has IPv6 enabled and you want to use an IPv4 address, otherwise we saw packets lost due to them travelling on different interfaces.

I just switched to a MAc and upgraded to PSE 10. What is the first thing you do to set up your new version of PSE? Can you drag phoots/elements into your project from a folder, or what is the easiest way to do this for you? Any other shortcuts, etc that would help me with this difficult transition at this point?
