Using 10.2.8 my applications suddenly quit

I have 10.2.8 and when ever I open some programs, Safari in particular, the Application suddenly quits. Also when I try to open date and time settings I see a finder window containing .prefpane files rather than seeing the menu for date/time. The same also happens when I try to load preference for quick time. HELP PLEASE!

Try to restart from the AirPort 3.1.1 install:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=70176
I haven't tested it.
If you find a working receipt, please post it.
(I still have a lot of 10.2.8.)

  • Applications suddenly quits - need an answer please

    Hello!
I don't know if I'm the good category for my question by, well, don't know what to do so if somene could help me.
Since about a week, different application suddenly quits when I try to do a task.
As an example, MSN Messenger, I can open it and log in, but if I try to speak with one of my contact, the application quit, with this report: EXC_EXCEPTION BREAKPOINT
Same thing with Acrobat reader, it open, but if I want to print the file, it quit..
Same thing with Safari, I can use it, but sometime it quit, like if I click on an image on a site like eBay to see the item...
Well if somebody have an answer for me, it would be appreciate.
    Thank you!

Exactly which model Mac G4 is it?
    What is the Processor speed?
How much RAM is installed, and is it original or added?
What size is the Hard Drive, and how much space is available?
Exactly which version of Panther 10.3.x is installed?
What happened between the last time the Mac functioned successfully, and when it didn't?
Have you made any changes, like upgrading the system, updated or installed any applications or programs, etc?
Have you deleted, disabled, or added any Fonts?
Have there been any unusual occurences, like freezes, crashes, power outages, etc?
    Have you run Repair Permissions?
TO REPAIR PERMISSIONS ON THE STARTUP DISK
1.Open Disk Utility, located in Applications/Utilities, and select the startup disk in the left column.
    2.Click First Aid.
3.Click Verify Disk Permissions to test permissions or Repair Disk Permissions to test and repair permissions. (I never "Verify". Just run "Repair".)
Rerun RP, until the only messages reported, are listed here Spurious Permissions Errors Using: 10.3.x, authored by Michael Conniff.
    Have you run Repair Disk?
THESE ARE THE STEPS FOR USING DISK UTILITY TO REPAIR YOUR HD
1.Insert the System Install disk, Mac OS X CD-ROM disk, or Restore DVD disk, then restart the computer while holding the C key. Use the System disk, of the OS, that is currently installed.
2.Once started up from CD or DVD, on the Menubar at the top of the screen, choose Disk Utility from the Installer contextual menu.
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from disc to access Disk Utility.
    3.Click the First Aid tab.
4.Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
5.Select your Mac OS X volume, if necessary.
6.Click Repair. If DU reports errors it has fixed, re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported.
7.Repeat steps 5 & 6, but select the Hard Drive this time. It's usually the first listed with the manufacturer's model number. Make note of the S.M.A.R.T. status.
8.When finished, select Quit Disk Utility from the Installer menu.
9.Select Quit Installer from the Installer menu.
10.In the resulting pop-up window, choose restart.
11.After the computer has restarted, you can eject the CD.

  • Applications suddenly quit.

    iMac Intel 20" 2GHz:
The following has happened in Safari, Mail, and iTunes-
The application suddenly quits or the screen goes dark from top to bottom. A message appears telling me to shut down by holding the power button until it shuts down.
When this happened in iTunes, I lost 5,000 songs.
    Any ideas?

What you are experiencing is called a kernel panic. Open your Console app (Utilities folder) and click on the Logs icon in the toolbar. Look for the panic.log and post the log results here.
Also visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQs on diagnosing kernel panics and dealing with applications unexpectedly quitting. Here's some additional info:

  • Applications suddenly quitting...

So I've had my macbook for about 2 weeks now, and after 4 days some applications started closing in the middle of me doing things. I've only really used Safari, AIM, and itunes where I've had that issue. I've tried reloading AIM already and that didn't do anything.
Can anybody help before I venture to the genius bar?!?
    macbook

You may want to start a new thread on this, because your problem is different that the original poster's. Some of the more "serious" people on these boards may go as far as to say you are guilty of "thread-jacking"!
Greyed-out icons on the dock mean the app is missing or the link between the dock icon and the real app is broken. Drag the bad dock icon off of the dock and drop it somewhere on the desktop to remove it. Then find the original app and drag its icon back onto the dock. That will re-establish the link.
Virtual PC does not work on any Intel-based Mac, so is this a case of a hard drive from an older Mac being used in your new MacBook? If so, that may be the problem. As far as other programs randomly quitting, repair your disk permissions and see if that helps. Also, how much RAM do you have? Rosetta and Tiger is one RAM-hungry combo, and even 1GB can struggle to keep up.
    Good luck!

  • Applications suddenly quit - nothing helps...

I began noticing yesterday that my iPad wasn't performing properly.  Several of my most commonly used apps started quiting suddenly.  I went through the normal steps - in some cases many times.  1 - Restart, 2 - Reset, 3 - Restore.  I then went to the next step on a couple of the easiest apps to test.  I deleted them and then reinstalled the apps.  Still - apps quit suddenly.  Not just 3rd party apps either.  E-mail suddently quits.  Any suggestions?
    Thanks - Mike

If a restore doesn't fix it, it's probably an iPad firmware or hardware problem. If you have a generous friend who will loan you their iPad, you could restore your data/apps to it to see if it has the same trouble.
In any case, sounds like a trip to the Genius Bar might be in your future. Is it under warranty?

  • Application suddenly quit and I can't reopen it.

Please can somebody help me. I was using Dreamweaver when it quit all of a sudden while I was trying to upload something to a testing server. I now can't launch it at all. I've tried removing it from my computer and then re-installing it, but that hasn't made any difference.
I'm really worried about this because I can't do any of my work until I can open it.
    Thanks
    Lucy

Did you recently install the newest versions of Quicktime and iTunes? If so, and Dreamweaver was running through rosetta (if you're on an intel mac and you have any other version of dreamweaver than the newest, CS3, then it's running through rosetta),try this:
From the Mac discussion forums: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=4930170&#4930170
Try this: download and retrofit (force install) QT 7.1.6 using Pacifist, then run the 10.4.10 Combo Updater for Intel Macs. Make sure it is the "combo" updater. Be sure to restart in safe mode after using Pacifist and then install/re-install the combo update (while in safe mode). For all those "non-techie" people (like myself), please try this if you already haven't and please read the instructions for Pacifist - if you use Pacifist correctly, it will ask you if you want to replace (vs. update) all of the Quicktime components (yes, you want to replace), so you will know that you are accomplishing what you need to. The first fix I tried was just to reinstall the Mac OSX10.4.10 combo update for Intel Macs and this did not work, but when I used Pacifist and then reinstalled the MacOS X combo updater (do not get this confused with the update that is not the "combo" one- (use the links), it worked! I am not a web developer, so did not have to deal with the Java 6 stuff.
    Combo Intel update is here:

  • Application suddenly quits!

    Hello guys,
Im having a problem with a specific application "filezilla" after an update when it launches quickly shuts down. The only error i got is in the console "12/10/13 14:01:13,058 Dock[197]: no information back from LS about running process"
    Any thoughts guys?

I´ve already tried those options, it didn't work.
I have almost the problem is this topic https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3826648?start=0&tstart=0
But in my case the application doesn't stay blinking in the dock, just quits.

  • App suddenly quitting?

Why is it (and how does one solve such a problem) that applications such as Netscape and AIM frequently die and leave you with a message roughly saying "Application suddenly quite due to unexpected error." I hope there is a solution to this problem for it is terribly annoying to have to reopen applications every ten minutes.
    Thanks for all the help.

Have you tried the basics such as repairing permissions with disk utility yet? If not then give those a try.. If that doesnt work, then try deleting them and reinstalling them.

  • Suddenly quits applications

So my iPad is suddenly quitting its applications constantly. Applications it quits out of most are Safari, Mail, and iBooks. Mail started being sluggish to respond about a week ago but it seemed to be an irregular problem.
Now all of those Apps are quitting. Only apps I downloaded recently were Popular Mechanics magazine and CBS News. Not sure what's happening. In the pursuit of trouble shooting I turned off the wifi (which is not connected when this mostly happens) and the 3G. I was able to keep iBooks open 35 minutes straight. With communications on it seems to quit in 2-10 minutes. I've also rebooted the iPad a few times. That's not the issue.
Anyone else have an experience with this or is this unique so far?

When you see an app starting to work sluggishly or in ways that just don't seem quite right, the recommended first step is usually to 'force quit' that app. How and when to do that, along with much additional guidance, is found in the sections mentioned in the following boilerplate:
+A more or less standard sequence of steps is laid out in your User's Guide which you should follow in those cases when either your iPad or an installed app isn't behaving as it should. They sort of mirror 'The Three R's (Restart, Reset, & Restore)' used for iPod troubleshooting, with a few extra iPad-specific things added in to the list.+
+These generic steps are laid out and explained in the Tips & Troubleshooting section of your User's Guide. The directions there will start you out from the quickest and easiest first step, which will often be all you need to do, all the way to the atomic blast fix of totally restoring the iOS and all contents in your iPad. You should also notice that that same section contains a wealth of more specific recommendations for specific apps or situations, and will prove well worth a going-over..+
+You can call AppleCare, and they will probably have you do the same things. Or, you can take it I to a Genius Bar, and they will also go through the same steps. Needless to say, if you work through the whole process without being able to correct your problem, then you've pretty much shot your bolt and will have to start talking to Apple or the app developers for a resolution.+

  • I'm trying to use migration assistant to transfer applications from my imac to macbook. Using either a firewire or network, as I'm waiting to select items to migrate, I receive an error message that "the application quit unexpectedly". My imac is newer.

I'm trying to use migration assistant to transfer applications from my newer imac to an older macbook (10.5.8).  I keep getting an error message "application quit unexpectedly" as I'm waiting to select the items to migrate.  I've tried using a firewire cable as well as just a network connection.
    Thank you.

    Here is some information:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4889
It mentions that migration is not supported with 10.4; now you said you have 10.5 - it may be the same problem. Besides, migration assistant will recognize an older system and move apps etc. over to a newer system - I'm not sure it will do the same thing in reverse.
And, there are a couple more problems: one is that your newer versions may not be backwards compatible with the old 10.5 and the second is that is you are trying to copy apps so you can use them on both, it most likely violates the SLA (unless you purchased them on MAS).
So, if none of those two apply, I'd simply try target disk mode (without the assistant) and drag over the apps.

  • My MacBook Pro will suddenly quit while I'm working on it and restarts itself.

I have a 2012 MacBook Pro running OSX 10.8.2 Mountain Lion with a 27-inch Apple Cinema Display connected to it that I use at work. I am an art director so I am constantly in Adobe Creative Suite 6. In the past month my MacBook Pro has suddenly quit on me while working and restarts itself TWICE. This time I was listening to a downloaded album on iTunes and the music started to skip right before the computer crashed and restarted itself. Has anyone ever experienced this before? It doesn't freeze up or anything like that, it will just unexpectedly go into Restart mode & the computer restarts. Everything is fine once it restarts but I am wondering if I should be concerned or if someone might know of a repair solution I could do on the computer. Should I run Disk Utilites to see if their is an issue? Would appreciate any comments and suggestions and feel free to ask may any question. THANKS!!

If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out these instructions.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below to select it:
syslog -k Sender kernel -k Message CSeq "Previous Shutdown" | tail | open -f -a TextEdit
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C).
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V).
The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. Post the contents of that window, if any — the text, please, not a screenshot. The title of the window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that.

  • Element's 6.0's Bridge doesn't open anymore - says application "unexpectedly quit"

Hello.  I purchased my MacBook Pro in late September, and purchased and installed Elements 6.0 for Mac.
Elements and Bridge were both working fine until late October, when one evening its Bridge CS3 application suddenly froze, so I had to force-quit it, and now every time I try to open Bridge I instead get this message:
"The application Bridge CS3 has unexpectedly quit."
I posted this question in the Elements forum, where I was advised to launch the updater from PSE Help Menu -> Updates, which I did, getting the message that there were "no updates available."
I was also advised to reset my Adobe Bridge preference files (by pressing and holding in the Option key as I launched Bridge), which I did but that didn't work either.  I still get the same error message whenever I try to open Bridge, which I have been unable to open since October.
I was further advised to ask in this forum, to see if anyone could help me trying to solve this problem.
I will appreciate some advice on this.  Thanks.

    Arlington, VA

As I'm not familiar with Bridge version for elements it might have the same
places were it stores cache and plist file.
First try to delete the Bridge list file (user/library/preference) and in
here find adobeBridge plist file and drag this to the trash. (it will renew
itself with a fresh new file after restarting Bridge).
Restart Bridge holding down option and try again.
If not then close ridge again and in same user library but now cache folder
find the cache folder for Bridge (can be a very large file when having used
much files). (user/library/caches/Adobe/BridgeCS3 and inhere place the
cachefile outside the library (or drag it to the trash)
With this action you will need to recache all your previous cached files but
together with plist file and refresh prefs you have an almost new install
    for Bridge.
Bridge CS3 is not the best version for bridge to say the least, I often used
this method (once every 5 or 6 weeks) because it had very much issues which
I solved with those actions. CS4 is more stable and faster, but you need to
upgrade and that is not for free...
I was further advised to ask in this forum, to see if anyone could help me
    trying to solve this problem.
I will appreciate some advice on this.  Thanks.

  • Sudden Quits in iPhoto 6 and Aperture 1.1.2

This is my problem, I am getting consistant 'sudden quits' whilst using iPhoto 6, it can be whilst doing any task from exposure adjustment to red eye correction, there is no set pattern. I'm using raw files & jpegs from my D200 and also jpegs from a Canon.
    Here's what I've tried:
Tech tools pro - all clear
    MemTest - all clear
Loading onto a clean install of 10.4.7 on an external disk, no other 3rd party software on it - same problem
    Deleting p-list
    Repairing permissions
    Disk repair
Checked Graphic card installation (it's an ATI X800XT)
    Tried another graphics card.
    All software updates applied.
all to no avail, now to put a further spanner in the works it also happens with Aperture ( I've posted there as well but everyone seems stumped). This is where my technical knowledge of Macs now runs out. It's only these 2 apps that are affected, Photoshop, Lightroom and Final Cut run fine. Has anybody any ideas ?
    Many thanks

It happens with random images from differemt sources after deleting libraries and clean installs so I can't think it is an image file problem. Here are the first few lines from a crash report from Aperture but the same thing is happening in iPhoto.
It does state that Thread 0 crashed with PPC Thread state 64:
