Using 10.5 Upgrade Disk to start mac running 10.5.6

Hello
I wonder if any of you can help me?
I have just moved house and have lost the Installer disk which came with my 27" iMac.
I need to change the password on the Mac Admin (The iMac is running on 10.6.5) The only disk I can find is an old Mac OS X Leopard Upgrade DVD version 10.5. Can I boot off that to change the password?
Many Thanks

As Niel noted, no. However, you can call AppleCare and request a replacement disc. Normally entails a nominal S&H charge.

  • Can you use windows 7 upgrade disk on late 2011 macbook pro?

I am new to mac so bear with me please.
I only have a windows upgrade disk, the bootcamp FAQ page says either full install or upgrade versions of windows 7 will work, but, the manual says only full. can anyone clarify for me please?
Also, is there a way to get around the fact that to use timemachine backup I need to have a FAT formatted disk? I am coming from windows and have all my media on an external drive and would like to use that drive as my backup drive, but since its not formatted for FAT it cant be used.
Thanks ahead of time for the help. Just switched and I am liking it so far! Just trying to get windows on here as I use some windows only applications for work.

    Requirements to use Time Machine
Time Machine is only available with Leopard or later.
External FireWire or USB 2.0 drive
    Time Capsule
Drive shared by a Mac running 10.5 or later using File Sharing
Drive shared by a Mac running 10.5 Server
SAN volume managed by Apple's Xsan file system
A TM drive must be partitioned with either APM (PPC) or GUID (Intel) and formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled.)

How do I make a recovery disk for my Mac running 10.5.8?

Hi, if tryly a PowerMac, (PPC instead of Intel), you may need a Firewire Drive to be bootable, most PPC Macs cannot boot OSX from a USB drive.
So we know more about it...
At the Apple Icon at top left>About this Mac, then click on More Info, then click on Hardware> and report this upto but not including the Serial#...

  • Using snow leopard upgrade disk with bootcamp

I can install snow leopard clean on a fresh drive on my MBP with my upgrade disk.
It is the disk that came as a drop-in dvd with the MBP, along with its original install disks.
If I install windows using bootcamp assistant, do I use that disk when it asks for the drivers, etc. during installation?
Or do I use my leopard install disks that came with my computer?
Is the snow leopard bootcamp process any different from the process in leopard?
I had windows Vista on there fine before upgrading my hard drive and going to snow leopard.
Do I need to print out those 25 pages again?
    Thanks for any advice.

Are you asking if you can? Yes, I think you can. The worst case is that you would have to install Leo first and then upgrade to Sno.

Its the same. Just start up the the Boot Camp Assistant and follow the instructions. No need to print the 25 pages again, IMO.

  • How can you use Win 7 upgrade disk if Boot Camp 4 doesn't support XP or Vista?

I've just purchased a Windows 7 Ultimate upgrade disk to upgrade my Win XP Pro. I haven't installed Lion or Boot Camp 4 yet but am concerned that if I need to reinstall Win 7 in the future the upgrade disk will require that Win XP Pro be installed first.
If  my Win XP Pro isn't supported and can't be reinstalled in Lion/Boot Camp 4, does anyone know what my options would be?
Can't get to Microsoft tech support without having a post-install product ID and their forums don't seem to cover this specific question for Mac/Boot Camp users or VMWare/Parallels users. I'm hoping that once activated that might be enough to turn the upgrade disk to a full version for reinstalling, but I'm not betting on it.
Any help appreciated before I permanently remove my XP Boot Camp partition for a clean install of Win 7 Ultimate.
    Thanks

  • Installing Logic 8 on OS X Lion to use Logic 9 upgrade disk

    Hi all,
I'm currently about to upgrade my version of Logic to Logic Studio 9 from Logic Studio 8 as my girlfriend decided to upgrade to Lion without telling me!
Obviously, I want to buy the upgrade version for £166 instead of the full version for £417.  However, I'm going to be getting a MacBook Pro in amonth or so which will inevitably come with Lion on it.
My question is, will I be able to install Logic Studio 8 on to my new MacBook Pro with OS X Lion in order for me to use the Logic Studio 9 upgrade disk?  If not is there anyway around this?  I feel like I should be eligible to migrate to a new system and still only pay the upgrade price for Logic Studio 9, otherwise it's taking £250 of the amount I can spend on a MacBook Pro, which seems a bit harsh!
Do I even need to install Logic Studio 8 on there first, I'm only guessing I do as otherwise why wouldn't everyone by the upgrade disk instead?
    Thanks for your time,
    Rich

Do I even need to install Logic Studio 8 on there first, I'm only guessing I do as otherwise why wouldn't everyone by the upgrade disk instead?
Blueberry's right. But to answer this question specifically: the disks that come with the Logic upgrade are identical to the disks that come with the Logic full version. The difference is the serial number. When you buy the upgrade and install it, and put in the serial number you got with the upgrade, the installer knows it's an upgrade serial number and asks for your Logic 8 serial to verify that you own Logic 8. Only after you put that in can you proceed with the install. You don't need Logic 8 installed - you don't even need the disks or anything - you just need your Logic 8 serial number to prove you own Logic 8. Only people who own a previous version of Logic 8 will have a qualifying serial number - that's why not everyone can do it.

  • Using Current FW Hard Disk with new Mac Mini..?

I'm using a G4 mini for over a year now, and intent to get an Intel version of it once the next product update occurs.
But is it possible for me to actually use the external FW hard disk which I'm booting my current system from right now, and use it as the bootup HD for my next mini, with all of the files in it remaining intact?
It is just a simple process of upgrading the FW HD with the universal version of OS X and then booting up from it? Or it is a more complicated process of having to format the HD first?
Hope seinors here can advise me on this, tks!
    Mac Mini G4 1.42 GHZ   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Since the OS X Intel version uses EFI it also uses a different kind of partition scheme, so your F/W disk would not be bootable. You need to repartition it and select GUID partition table in the options (on your PPC machine, the Intel machine would choose the right one) in order to make it bootable for Intel Macs. All your data will be erased by repartitioning the HD!

  • Using an external hard-disk with both mac and XP

I would like to use an external USB hard-drive to use with both my XP desktop and Macbook. This is mainly to store photo's and music. Am I right in believing this is possible so long as I format the disk in FAT32 first. Is there a file size limitation?

    Hi,
I was planning to buy the Western Digital 'My Passport Essential 160GB USB Portable Hard Drive'. If I formatted that as FAT32 - would that be ok. Also can I use it as my ITunes 'base'?
    Yes and yes.
But be aware that you can encounter difficulties with USB-powered external HDs, since such drives generally need more power from the USB port than a Mac and/or PC usually can deliver.
My personal choice would be to get a power supply for the external HD.

  • Can I use Windows 7 upgrade disk with my empty bootcamp partition?

In upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion, I had to get rid of my Bootcamp partition running Windows XP in order for the Lion install to work successfully. I can run bootcamp and put in a new partition now.
I originaly backed up my Bootcamp partition with Winclone. It turns out that it's not really possible to restore a Windows XP partition under Lion.
No big loss. I don't have any real data of importance on that saved XP data.
However, I really need to install Windows 7.
The UPGRADE version is lower in cost.
But with NO WINDOWS OPERATING SYSTEM  residing in my Bootcamp partition, can I use the "UPGRADE" version of Windows 7? I do have a numeric product key for Windows XP.
Alternatively, for $199 I can buy the full install version.
    Thanks

    Stef,
Here's a way to use Winclone. Run Snow Leopard and Lion both, on your machine. Install Winclone to the Snow leopard partition. It will work. I've done this same thing on my MBP. Lion will run well if installed clean on a separate partition. Once SL is up and Winclone is installed, you can image the Boot Camp drive easily, just as before. You can do the Windows restore via Winclone before or after the install of Lion - as long as the Boot Camp partition is set up. You can also restore it the same way. So, you have SL installed as a way to run old PPC programs and Winclone, etc. I don't know if it matters, but this is the order I installed (I tested this out on a new hard drive before touching my existing drive):
    1) Snow Leopard
    2) Boot Camp
    3) Lion
I ope this helps you as well as it did me.

    1. Check the cycle count of the battery against the rated life for your model. The battery may be due for replacement. If the power adapter is connected almost all the time, the battery may need replacing even though the cycle count is not too high.
    2. Follow these instructions, or these for OS X 10.8 or earlier.
    3. In the Energy Saver preference pane, uncheck the box marked
Enable Power Nap while on battery power
if it's shown (it may not be.)
    4. You can also try resetting the SMC.
    5. Make sure your system is up to date in Software Update.
    6. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service center.

  • Can I upgrade CS5 on a Mac running Maverick?

I have a Macbook Pro, running Maverick, and older version of Creative Suite, CS5. Still works, but I have been getting notices that upgrades to this are available. BUT...cannot tell anything about the upgrades - if they will work on this platform, if they are free or pay. So I am afraid to try to install them. I spent the last hour trying to contact Adobe by phone to ask this simple question - are upgrades available to me. Guess, what? They can't be reached by phone. Every time I travel their phone tree, I end up on a branch they cut off. Not good product support in my opinion and if I were starting over would really question using these products. But that is the way it is. I realize that likely no one out there can answer this for me, but thought I would put it up in case you have dealt with a similar issue.
    Thanks,
    Richard

I have version 7.0.4.553 - according to the info function. Maybe this is the latest.

  • Using se 6 runtime library on a mac running 1.5

I have an app that needs to be compatible with 32 bit macs that can only run Java 1.5. So I was hoping that I could just import the SE 6 runtime library and possible fix imports to use the updated imported library rather than the jvms loaded classes. So far it seems to work for classes that are not in SE 5 such as TrayIcon class. But for classes that are in both, the JVM's version(1.5) is used. Do I have to do custom classloading in this situation? Maybe a way to do this through Netbeans(6.5)? Is this possible? What are my options here? TIA.

    JoachimSauer wrote:
No, the Java 6 runtime libraries depend on the Java 6 JVM, you can't simply "import" it into Java 5.
You can get some of the functionality added to Java 6 from external sources. Since you mention the TrayIcon, you might be interested in the JDIC project, which was where that was original comming from.
But then again, as far as I know, there is a Java 6 JVM for Mac and it's installed in all recent Mac OS X releases (it's just not the default JVM), so what's wrong with running the Java 6 JVM?Because as the OP indicated, and AFAIK the Java 6 for Mac is only for 64 bit Mac.

  • How to install and use Iweb 2.0.4 on a Mac running 10.9.1?

    Hey All-
Okay - just bought a Used Macbook Pro Laptop runnning 10.9.1 - and it came with iweb 3.0.4 -
Tried to open our website which was built in iWeb 2.0.4 and it doesn't open it- it performs the operation but does not launch the site - it creats a new blank page - I have tried this many ways - no luck and iweb doesn't allow you to open a site from within the program
So - I went to my old laptop and copied the iweb 2.0.4 version over to the new laptop - it will not launch the site either - I get an error message
I tried downloading 2.0.4 and re-installed over the old version and still get the same error message -
    ERROR MESSAGE:
    Can’t open file “~/Library/Application Support/iWeb/Domain.sites2.”
Can anyone help me get my site open in iweb for updates - either the old 2.0.4 or the new 3.0.4 that came with this laptop?
    Thanks for the help -
    Zander

You don't actually need to install iWeb 08 or version 2 and there is no point, because this does not work properly with Mavericks which you are running on the Laptop - Mavericks will only work with iWeb 09.
The reason that iWeb will not open your domain.sites file is that from Lion, Mountain Lion to Mavericks, iWeb lost the ability to be able to open individual domain.sites files, so this is what will happen.
To be able to open individual domain files you need to download something called 'domain cracker' or 'iWeb Switch Domain' and these will allow you to open individual domain.sites files under Mavericks.
This is all you need to do - download the iWeb Switch and you'll be able to open it, but don't install iWeb 08, because it won't work with Mavericks.
Also remember that iWeb has not been sold or supported by Apple for the past 2 years, so think about using another programme instead - there are lots with the most like iWeb being EverWeb at http://www.everwebapp.com.

  • 10.4 upgrade disk keeps freezing in same spot

I am trying to up grade from 10.3.9 to 10.4 using Max OS X Tiger up grade disk (includes Xcode2) that I purchased. I purchased a 320 Gb Western Digital internal drive , formated it to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) single partition. I then installed OS 10.3.9 with all the software up dates+ applications and when I try to use the single Upgrade disk it freezes each time at the same place-INSTALLING ESSENTIALS 93% 22 minutes to go, I have tried both the Original Install option and the Archieve and Install option (without checking the little box). I am stumped. Does anyone have an idea what the problem is. I have been customizing the install by not using foreign languages and only checking hp for printer drivers but that shouldn't really matter or should it. I could use some help. Thanks. JDB

    Dear BD Aqua,
I solved the problem by changing the jumper on the back of the drive to Slave. Now have new problem which I have posted:
I recently installed 10.4.11 with all up dates on a new start up hard drive. I used the migration program to transfer all files and applications. Now iPhoto will not open on the new start up hard drive from any of the mounted drives but it will if I restart using the old start up drive. What do I have to do to get iPhoto to open?
    Any suggestions
    Thanks for your interest.
