Using 1st Gen Apple TV on several Logins

Hi
I have a house guest that I have set up a separate login account for on my Mac. I have already setup my iTunes library so they have access to it, but no purchase rights, while on the machine. I have 2 1st Gen Apple TVs associated with my library. How can I enable the apple tvs so he can watch movies or listen to music from his side of the Mac?

My Apple TV and my iTunes got along just fine until I downloaded the latest version of iTunes. Now Edit > Preferences > Apple TV no longer exists so it's hard to check "Look for Apple TVs". The Apple TV device doesn't show up in iTunes.
I, too, am afraid I'm going to lose stuff I bought with Apple TV that hasn't been synced with my iTunes library.

Home sharing with gen 2 apple tv using 1st version apple tv.

I have a 1st version Apple tv. I have my library stored on it. I want to purchase a gen 2 apple tv for another room. I want to be able to stream my library from my 1st gen apple tv. Or does it have to come from a computer on and running itunes. I use a macbook pro which can be sitting on my desk closed and off (sleep) usually. Or not home if i'm not home. Also I have a time capsule that has my library stored (backed up). I'm thinking I need to find and buy every 1st gen apple tvs i can find. I am lucky to have bought the first one when I did I think.
PS I think removing the hard drive and he analog outputs was a very bad idea. I use both (cause I pretty much have to) on my current apple tv.

it has to come from a computer running itunes. you cannot stream from appletv1 to appletv2.

Can you use a 1st gen apple tv with iCloud tv programs?

I have a number of purchased tv programs from iTunes. I click "check for downloads" on a 1st gen apple tv but it doesn't find any of these programs.

Purchased content is re-downloadable from a special purchased section which is not available on the first generation Apple TV. The "Check for downloads" option is only for downloading purchases that have been made on the Apple TV itself.

Music Gone from 1st Gen Apple TV after iTunes upgrade to 10.1.1 (4)

I use a 1st Gen Apple TV to store and play all my music throughout my home. It's perfect for that because I don't have to stream from my computer (as with 2nd Gen Apple TV) and can control the music from all over the house from the Remote App on my iPad and iPhone. After I upgraded to iTunes 10.1.1 this week I synced my Apple TV with my computer to add some new music to it from iTunes. All of my music promptly disappeared from my Apple TV. It may have still been there, but didn't show in iTunes on my computer or on my iPad or iPhone remote apps.
My first thought was that I might have to do a restore on the Apple TV and then re-sync with my computer's iTunes. Before doing that, however, I simply re-synced all of my music to the Apple TV from my computer. It worked and now all of the music is available again.

had the same problem once
went to the appletv's settings and unlinked it with the computer
let it do it's restart and clear synced data
set it up to link with the same computer once more
and let it sync the data once more
haven't have issues since
but described the solution to many in this forum who had the same issue

You can use Remote app on an iOS device, however it needs to have ben configured first and that would entail using an Apple Remote.
If you have lost or do not have an Apple remote the new silver remote works with all units.
Some 3rd party programmable remotes may also have codes to use with other devices like AppleTV.

1st Gen Apple Tv doesnt pass video thru Samsung Surround Sound DVD Receiver

Using my 1st Gen Apple Tv, I get pure static when connecting HDMI cable to my Samsung DVD Surround Sound Receiver. It has worked in the past, but stopped working recently and I cant ascertain what has changed!
Any ideas?

1st gen apple tv not showing all movies synced from iTunes.

I have 30 movies in iTunes library that I synced to my 1st gen Apple TV. I have viewed several of these movies in the past on the Apple TV but some are not coming up in the listings anymore. I go back to iTunes and still see that they are still stored/synced to the Apple TV. Why can't I see them listed anymore? (Can't see them under 'Watched' or 'Unwatched')

Ive got a 1st gen apple TV wifi issues help please.

Ive got a 1st gen apple TV, had it about 4 years and I cannot get it work over wifi for the past 2 years. If its wired with network cable it works.If using wifi I either get no movies on appletv or sometimes it syncs and lists all my movies in Itunes but when I try and play any movies it says video format not recignized. Ive disconnect the Ethernet cable from the Apple TV. Navigated to Settings > General > Network. Click Configure Wireless.Selecte my wireless network and entered password then done. see "Connecting to wireless network" screen appears then "Connection Succeeded" I see IP address, Wi-Fi Address, and signal strength is strong all bars. Any ideas as to What the heck is wrong with this AppleTV.

Doesn't sound good if you've restore to factory from the diagnostics menus and are seeing this.
Have you unplugged from the main for a few mins and restarted. Disconnect any ethernet cables if you have them.

"Music Videos" under "Music" header on my 1st gen Apple TV menu is missing.

I no longer seem to have "Music Videos" under the "Music" header on my 1st gen Apple TV menu. This occurred about a month ago now (early October). Does anyone know why? I have worked with Apple Support and I have reset my device to factory settings to no avail...
I actually used this menu option often but I might have been the only person who did since I cannot find any information on it nor does anyone seem to know it even existed:)... I am more curious to find out what has happended now than expecting a fix for it.
I have had a rough couple months with my Apple products actually...:(

Having the same issues.....I have two 1st Gen Apple TVs and neither are showing on the Remote App on any of my devices as of Dec 24th. Everything is connected to the same network, have most recent updates to Remote App, software of devices, itunes. Rebooted router, computer, apple tvs....deleted the app, reinstalled...turned off wifi and homesharing, then turned back on and the Remote App will only find my itunes library and not the Apple TVs. Any help would be appreciated.

If I can stream HD on my 1st gen Apple TV can I expect same from 2nd gen?

I just rented Legend of the Guardians in HD on my 1st gen Apple TV and it played instantly at 12pm on Sunday. My connection is 15 mbits according to DSLreports. Can I expect the same performance from Apple TV version 2? When I got the 1st generation Apple TV it sucked for streaming HD and now I never use it for that because the experience was so frustrating. I got an Apple TV 2 for Christmas and I'm trying to decide if I should return it before opening it. Netflix is the main appeal but I can get a bluray player that streams netflix, vudu and more for about the same price. More reliable HD streaming from Apple might be enough for me to keep it.

I have 3 Apple tv's one that is the 1st gen I think 40 gb one that is 160 gb and finally the streaming one. I think that the newer one for me seems to suffer maybe a little more interference than the 1st gen models. My fix with suggestion was to have it run on the 5GHZ side maybe it was interference I don't really know all I know that I can stream movies no problem. I do have cable service at 20 mbps it should have no problems but running at 2.4 I did have problems saying it would take hours before I could watch the movie.I download on Itunes HD movies.

How do I get Faces in iPhoto to appear on my 2ed gen Apple TV. The appear on my 1st gen Apple TV with Photos and Events.

How do I sync Faces in iphoto to iTunes and then to my 2ed gen Apple TV so I can show Events,Photos or Faces on my TV? On another TV which I have connected a 1st gen Apple TV all three appear, so some how the 1st gen is sync'ing with itunes but not so with the 2ed gen Apple TV as I ony get Events and Photos on the TV screen.

I was actually wondering about iTunes updates, not Apple TV. The problem is that iTunes does not show tabs for syncing my 1st Gen. Apple TV. I wonder if the problem is in iTunes.
My Apple TV does still remember music and photos that were previously synced, but I can't re-sync to add new music and photos.
I am worried that if I unlink and re-sync, I won't be able to get anything back, and will be limited only to streaming.
Thoughts?

1st gen apple tv.

I have a 1st gen apple tv. I have always and only streamed from my 1T TC. What has heppened is: it follows menus to the selected movie and when i select the movie, the 1st 1 second of video plays and then freezes. The audio continues for i don't know how long because i stop it. I have tried to sync a movie to it (wirelessly) and it tells me i have to open port 336(?)
1. Anyone know how i can fix the streaming? or how to open a port so i can try syncing...
I'd rather stream as i have 100's of movies to stream

Applications>Utilities>Terminal
sudo ipfw add allow ip from 336 to 336
sudo reboot
If this does not work, try connecting the Apple TV to the Time Capsule via ethernet.
WARNING
Before entering sudo reboot, save any open files. You will lose all changes during the reboot.
You will need an admin password. The characters will not show when entering the password.
Also, you could go to Settings>Computers>Your Library.
Then go to Settings>Computers>Add iTunes Library. A code will be displayed. In iTunes, go to iTunes>Prefrences>Apple TV>Remove.
After that, restart iTunes. Your Apple TV should appear under Devices. Select it and enter the code.
If that doesn't work, I don't know what will.

Judging by all the posts on the forum, there seems to be an issue at Apple's end, although they have made no announcement on their status page. Some users have reported that Apple is aware of the issue. You can leave feedback for Apple at the link below.
