Using 2 different ipods on one computer

Can someone please help, i have a color ipod set up on my computer, and my friend brought over a original ipod (the same as mine but with no color) and we are trying to put songs on her ipod and mine but for some reason the computer will not recognize the one with no color....HELP....what am i doning wrong???

Apple don't like this.
The simplet method would be to:
1) Make both iPods "enable disk use"
2) Plug in her iPod
3) iTunes will probably ask if she wants to delete all of her songs and replace them with your library, select NO.
4) Open the iPod in Windows Explorer
5) Simply drag & drop the chosen songs from your library onto the iPod in Explorer.
Hope all goes well. Click the relevant box above to let other users know if this post is "Helpful" or has "Solved" the problem.

  • How can I use two Ipods on one computer.

I was wondering if it is possible to use 2 Ipods on one computer without having to reload all of the music to the new library.

If you are adding a second iPod for your own use, just connect the new iPod to your computer and follow the on screen instructions. It will update from your existing library. Depending on the size of your library and the type of iPod you choose you can have it update all songs and playlists, selected playlists only or you can manage it manually
If the iPods belong to different users then there are actually a few methods for using more than one iPod on a single computer: How To Use Multiple iPods with One Computer
Just to summarise what's in the link above which is a little out of date:
Method one is to have individual Mac or Windows user accounts which by definition would give you completely separate iTunes Music folders and libraries.
Method two is to set your preferences so that any or all of iPods get updated with only certain playlists within one library:
Loading songs onto iPod automatically - Windows
Choosing the update option "Sync Music - Selected playlists" allows you to create a playlist specifically for each iPod and drag the tracks you want into it. If you tire of the list and want to change it, you just add or remove the songs you don't want. The ones you take out out remain in the library to be used by the other iPod. You can read more about playlists at these links:
iTunes: Creating playlists of your favorite songs

Another option when using a single library is to set any or all of the iPods to manual update: Managing content manually on iPod

  • Can someone tell me how to use 2 ipods on one computer

well when anyone can ill be waiting for the answer i want to know cuz since im buying the ipod video i want to see if i can use the same computer that im uploading stuff to my ipod mini

There is no limit to how many iPods can run on a single PC. Or how many PCs a single iPod can connect to. Either by Apple design or by any legal issues.

  • How do i synce two different ipods with one computer??

  • Can I use 2 iPods in one computer?

I have an iPod Nano and my brother has an iPod Mini. We only have one computer in the house. Can we plug and use both iPods in one computer without affecting the contents of each of our iPods? Because it might delete my songs when he plugs in his iPod and vice versa.

There are a couple of methods for using more than one iPod on a single computer. Method one is to have two Mac or Windows user accounts which by definition would give you two completely separate libraries. Method two is to set your preferences so that either one or both iPods get updated with only certain playlists within one library. Have a look at this article and see what you think and go for whichever you feel suits your needs best: How To Use Multiple iPods with One Computer
Method two, "automatically update selected playlists only" would allow you to create a playlist specifically for each iPod and drag the tracks you want into it. If you tire of the list and want to change it, you just add or remove the songs you don't want. The ones you take out out remain in the library to be used by the other iPod. Make your playlist a Smart playlist and limit the size to just below the advertised capacity of your iPod Mini or Nano (around 3700MB for a 4GB or 1800MB for a 2GB). You can read more about playlists at these links:
iTunes: Creating playlists of your favorite songs
How to create a Smart Playlist with iTunes
A third option is to set one or both iPods to "manually manage songs and playlists" and drag whatever you like to them.

  • Help wanted - step by step process on how to use two ipods on one computer

I'm just in the process of getting an ipod (waiting on delivery!) and want to know how it is possible to have two ipods using the same computer but synchronizing differently. I don't want to risk losing my partners music (he'll be very upset!) and I don't want to end up with his music on my ipod. I'd appreciate it if someone could give me a step by step guide or tell me where the best place to look for the answer is. Is it possible somehow to have two different libraries on one computer? Is that how it works?

There are a couple of methods for using more than one iPod on a single computer. Have a look at the article linked below. Method one is to have two Mac or Windows user accounts which by definition would give you two completely separate libraries. Method two as Chris has already described above is to set your preferences so each iPod is updated with only certain playlists within one library. • Putting 2 different ipods on one computer

i have 2 ipods on one computer its windows Xp and when i hook my ipod up it tells me "another user on this computer is using the ipod software, so itunes is unable to communicate with this ipod. please ask the other user to log out." i dont know how to fix this

Are you using more than one log on account? read this:

  • Can I sync 2 different iPods with one Computer

I want to buy a second iPod (Shuffle) and synch it with part of my content in iTunes. Is it possible?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Of course you can. I use 2 minis and 1 shuffle with my computer, and I am going to get a nano too.

  • Is there a way to use multiple ipods on one computer without them overwriting each other?

i have in total 3 ipods.
One is an the square ipod. (the one with the moving screen on the right)
the second is an ipod shuffle (the touch screen one)
and i just got an ipod touch. (the colorful one)
i still use all my ipods but on my first two i use the same itunes for it. so for example, i use one ipod to download all of my music library.
then i connect my second ipod only to download selected songs.
but now that i have an ipod touch, one of the ipods is going to be overwritten.
So is there a way for that not to happen?
having a flash drive for a seperate itunes for one ipod is to much of a hassle.
but if anyone has the answers, i would greatly appriaciate it.
    thanks! : D

Why do you think that one will be over written?
You can sync as many ipods/iphones/ipads as you like to one computer.  Each is different and will only sync what you select.

  • Is it possible to have 2 different Ipods on one computer?

I have a Ipod mini first generation and just got a new 30G Ipod.
I downloaded all my music on to the new Ipod and when to Clean out the old one to download music for my mom on it.
After I was done downloading the old Ipod with my mom music I went to put some new music on the New 30G. When I connected the Ipod to USB port I lost all the music I already had and it put my mom's music on it?
Is there any way to have 2 i pod playlist on the same Itunes and not lose my music?

We have 2 minis (my brother and me) , one computer two different tastes in music. The link to help with this is no longer available. I need a way to have one iTunes, but not mix music or have the downloads mix/delete etc. Is there an easy way? I understand about having different users under user accounts, which we do and have disabled fastswitching. I'm not the brightest iPod user so if you have simple instructions it will be very much appreciated!

  • Using 2 ipods on one computer with Windows XP

Is it possible to have two iTunes accounts on one computer with Windows XP? My brother already had an iTunes account on this computer and then I got an iPod too. I just loaded his music onto my iPod at the time, but I want to delete all of the music he gave me and start over. I want my own iTunes account so I can load my own songs. He's afraid that if I erase all of the songs from my iPod and reload from his iTunes it will mess up his iPod as well. What should I do?

The following link should help you out & explain all of your options.

  • Using multiple Ipods on one computer

I just purchased an Ipod Nano to use in addition to my older Ipod on my home Windows computer. How can I use Itunes to support both Ipods without having to repurchase all my music?

You just plug in the Nano. iTunes will recognize that it's a separate device, with it's own preferences. Music you've purchased from the iTunes Store can be synced to all your iPods.
I'm currently syncing three iPods to the same library. I use the Sync Selected Playlists option (look on the Music tab) to determine what music gets put on which iPod.
    Best of luck.
