Using 3750 switches & 2821 router for video & http qos

Hello all,
I know that the 3750 switches and 2821 routers are aging platforms, though, was curious if it they are capable of providing QoS for video (such as WebEx) and HTTP/HTTPS, in addition to voice traffic?
Thanks

Thank you Reza.
One reason we're looking into this, is that we wanted to see if we could give priority to traffic destined for, and arriving from, certain servers  (in addition to certain classes of traffic).   Is that possible?  Most of our switches have IPBase images (12.2(55)SE1).
Thanks

Well, it depends on what ISP you use.
Reply back with your ISP and connection type (cable, ADSL). Also, do you use an ISP router or do you have a modem connected to a router that you provide?

  • Using ASA 5510 and router for dual WAN Connections.

    Guys, neeed some help here:
    Context:
1- My company has one ASA 5510 configured with Site-to-site VPN, Ipsec Cisco VPN and AnyConnect VPN.
2- We use ASA to connect to the single ISP (ISP 1) for internet access. ASA does all the NATing for internal users to go out.
3- A second link is coming in and we will be using ISP 2 to loadbalance traffic to internet (i.e. business traffic will go via ISP1 and “other” traffic will go via ISP2).
4- A router will be deployed in front of the ASA to terminate internet links.
5- No BGP should be used to implement policy (traffic X goes via ISP1, traffic Y goes via ISP2).
    Questions:
How do I get this done, particularly, how do I tell the router, for traffic X use ISP1 and for traffic Y use ISP2? PBR is my friend?
Since I will be having 2 public Ip Addresses from the 2 ISPs, how do I NAT internal users to the 2 public Ip addresses ?.
Finally, which device should be doing the NATing? The ASA just like now or move NATing to the Router?
    Thanks

    Hi,
Check the below link, it gives information on trasperant fw config and limilations. Based on the doc, you may need to move the VPN /anyconnect to router as well. From the routr end you may be able to set up static routes pointing to diff ISP based on traffic needs but this will be compleicated setup and can break things. Wait for other suggestions or if possible stick to ASA to terminate both links and still route the traffic to diff ISPs (Saves the router cost as well).

  • Using a Sony HVR-M25U for video playback

I know this isn't strictly a Final Cut question. I'm just hoping that some smart Final Cut editor is using the same Sony deck as I use and can help me out. Also, sorry for the length. I've included every detail I thought might be germane.
Since I started editing HDV I've always used Digital Cinema Desktop Preview for monitoring my edits. I suppose due to a lack of computing power it's never looked very good in motion, though it looks nice and clean when stilled. Today I bought an HDMI cable, hoping to allow me to monitor my work in FCP, sending the video via iLink (FireWire) through my Sony HVR-M25U to my HD monitor.
Now, I use my HVR-M25U Videocassette recorder deck to log and capture footage in Final Cut Pro. That works fine. I can view video straight off HDV tapes on my High Definition monitor via the HDMI input. That works fine. I can even use the Print to Video function and see the HDV output both in the LCD screen on the front of the deck and on the monitor through the HDMI input. The trouble I'm having is in using the M25U to monitor my editing via iLink.
In the old days, working with DV, I had a DSR 40 and I was able to use that deck to monitor my FCP output via iLink, taking a component out to my standard def monitor. Is there some reason I can't use this HDV deck the same way? I've tried refreshing A/V devices in Final Cut. I don't see any iLink or Firewire choices in my view menu. I do see a whole list of HDV (1440 x 1080) choices but they're all greyed out. These choices also exist in my Audio/Video Settings screen under "Playback Output" but, again, they are greyed out. Oddly, from having used the Cinema Desktop Preview, I have "Different Output for Edit to Tape/Print to Video" checked and under that pulldown the same eight HDV (1440 x 1080) choices do exist and they are not greyed out. Checked or unchecked, that doesn't change the Playback Output menu.
I can't see any logical deck settings to adjust. Under "IN/OUT" settings I have "HDV/DV SEL" on Auto, my "Video Out" as 1080i/480i and "i.LINK SET" (the DV down-convert) is off.
I've also tried shutting down FCP and relaunching and shutting the deck off and firing it back up. I've tried the deck first and then FCP and I've tried the opposite. I also tried restarting. Still nothing.
If I can feed HDV from the deck into my computer via iLink, shouldn't I be able to feed HDV from my computer to the deck? Like I said, I can record HDV via Firewire to the deck. Shouldn't I be able to see that same HDV output on the deck's LCD screen and also through the deck's HDMI output when editing?
In case it matters, I'm running FCP 6.06, OS X 10.6.2 on a 2 x 2.8 GHz Quad Core Xeon with 4GB RAM.
Thanks in advance for anyone who's taken the time to actually read this long question and a special thanks to anyone who might be able to help.

    #25 HDV external Monitor Viewing
Shane's Stock Answer #25 - HDV external Monitor Viewing
To view HDV on an external monitor in high definition you are going to need to purchase a capture card, like the ones Decklink (www.decklink.com) or AJA (www.aja.com) offer. They will both play out HDV in real time. The catch is that you cannot view this on a regular TV or NTSC monitor. Since this is HD, an HD monitor will be needed. HOWEVER, both cards are capable of down converting the signal so that it can be displayed on an SD monitor. This won't be color accurate
The real reason why you can't monitor HDV through a Firewire camera is because Firewire HDV cameras don't decode incoming HDV streams and route them to their outputs like DV cameras do.
Good options for you are the Matrox MXO2...$500...coupled with an HDTV. Or a Matrox MXO (DVI connection) coupled with an Apple 23" display gets you good quality.
And there are the Decklink Intensity and Intensity PRO cards as well, and the AJA I/O Express...
You can, however, view HDV out via firewire as DV...lowering the resolution to that of DV, but still viewable. This is not full quality nor should it be used to judge the quality of your footage or used to color correct to. This is just a way to view the footage on a large monitor.
Here are some examples of some of the possibilities:
    - DV or HDV sequence output to an SDI signal on a third-party interface
    - An uncompressed NTSC or PAL sequence output to a DV FireWire output
    - An HDV sequence output to a DV FireWire output
Sequence and output formats must have compatible frame rates. For example,
sequences with a frame rate of 60, 30, or 24 fps can be output to a 30 fps device,
but not to a 25 or 50 fps device.

  • Using another switch or router with TC???

Do you use another ethernet switch or router with an integrated ethernet switch with your TC??? How do you have things setup?
BTW: I'm running out of physical ethernet ports and I need to use Vonage...
    R

If you're out of LAN ports then yes, you need a switch. Plug it into your TC and plug other stuff into the switch. Simple.
When buying a switch, remember one of its ports will be occupied by the connection to the TC. For example, if you're using all three TC LAN ports, buying a five port switch results in a net gain of only three ports: one of them is needed for the uplink, and the one you had to unplug from the TC must now be connected to the switch... three remain.
    Fortunately they're not expensive.

  • Fast EtherChannel between Catalyst 3750 and 2821 Router

    Hi Guys
I'm trying to setup a Fast EtherChannel between a cat3750-smi and a 2821 router that consists of only 2 links.
    I am following instructions per TAC, but I'm getting an error along the way;
    On the cat3750:
    interface port-channel 1
    no switchport
Command Rejected: Not a convertable port
    Can anyone help???
Also... do the IP Addresses for the EtherChannel need to be the same for both port-channels? Or do I assign the switch like 192.168.1.1 and the router 192.168.1.2 ?
    Thanks!
    Adam

    Hi Adam,
The ip address cannot be same but it should belong to same subnet. So one side 192.168.1.1 and other side 192.168.1.2 will work fine.
Its better to convert your layer 2 port as a layer port fist so what you do the port which you want to be port channel go that that interface and convert with "switchport" command
once it is a layer 3 port configure with channel group and automatically layer 3 port channel will be created and you can sssign an ip address then.
Just give a try and update if it works.

  • Using a 3rd party router for Multicast

    Hi all,
There’s a lot of feedback on this board about using third party routers with Multicast, so we’ve decided to put this information all in the one place for you.
NOTE: the workarounds below haven’t been tested by BT as we do not support 3rd party routers and we do not endorse any of them. Our recommended router remains the Home Hub.
With the above statement in mind, we know that a lot of you do choose to use other routers.  The information contained here has come from fellow customers who have given their time to share this information in good faith. Thanks to all of the forum members who have helped make this information available to our community it is a great example of the wealth of information that a community can provide and we hope this encourages users to come back and visit us in the future.

    Modem -> HH3 -> R6300 -> Powerline -> 2 x Youview Boxes on other Powerlines.
To do this, configure the Home Hub 3.0 as 192.168.1.1, then disable its wireless and DHCP. Make sure that NAT and UPNP were enabled, and then set it to use the address 192.168.1.254 as a DMZ server.
Then configure the R6300 as the address 192.168.0.1, using the WAN IP address of 192.168.1.254, with 192.168.1.1 as the gateway and DNS server. The R6300 is then connected via WAN port to the HH3 Gigabit port.
In the R6300 settings switch on IGMP.
The above settings allow both YouView boxes to use on demand content and different streaming channels simultaneously, as well as giving the full features of the R6300 such as AC1750 wireless, network printing, and DLNA

How to configure Multicast on TP-Link routers (from the TP-Link website).
One of our posters also found the following:
He found that your router must be able to do the following for Multicast:
For an end user connected via Openreach GEA (FTTC and FTTH)
    • The Residential Gateway will support:
    – IPoE for multicast traffic and PPPoE for BB traffic;
    – VLAN tag ID of 0 or no VLAN tag ID for multicast and BB traffic;
    – Fork IGMP requests up multicast and BB paths.
For an end user connected to an MSAN (WBC copper)
    • The Residential Gateway will support:
    – A dual VC architecture;
    – Accept TV Connect multicast traffic on ATM VP/VC 0/35 with IPoE and broadband traffic on ATM VP/VC 0/38 with PPPoE;
    – Fork IGMP requests up multicast and broadband paths.
IGMP should v3 and will be in range from 225.0.0.0 to 239.255.255.255

  • Can I use it as a router for Charter?

    Hello,
I'm about to switch to charter's new 30MBPS plan and I was wondering if I could connect this to my modem and use it as my only router? Or is that not possible?

I was wondering if I could connect this to my modem and use it as my only router?
If "it" is a Time Capsule, and" it" has been first been reset back to Factory Default settings, "it" should work well with the cable modem from Charter.
Make sure that you power off the modem completely by pulling the power cable from the back of the device or from the wall AC jack and leave it off for 30 minutes before you connect the Time Capsule.
Then power up the modem and let it run by itself for 5 minutes. Then, power up the Time Capsule the same way.
Once your computer is powered back on, you can configure the Time Capsule using AirPort Utility.

rently PowerPoint allows the addition audio narration in sync with slide animation. Adobe presenter allows for the addition of video

animation. Ideally we want to record video narration with active slide animation similar to the way audio narration can be added wit
h animation playing. This removes a lot of guesswork and complication from the production process."
Please advice about the same wether this would do for a feature request or,
How can we go ahead and perform this?

    I figured it out.
If you select H.264 as the format you can then select YouTube Widescreen HD for the preset.
This will set everything up to convert your MTS file to 720p and reduce the file size by around 30% with little quality degradation in my experience so far.
The only problem I encountered was the video was kind of choppy when the camera panned but that was remedied by upping the frame rate from 24 to 29.97.
Hope this helps someone and if anyone has any suggestions to improve efficiency or reduce file size post it in here.

  • Why should I use Publish instead of Routing for SOAP messages over JMS?

    Hi,
I currently read the book "The Definitive Guide to SOA - Oracle Service Bus" and found the following sentence in the chapter "Wrapping an Asynchronous Web Service with a Proxy Service" on page 131, which confuses me:
When you send a SOAP message over a JMS queue, you need to use the Publish action, not the Routing action. <<Are there general restrictions, when to use Publish and when to use the Routing action in asynchronous communication? Is this special for SOAP messages over JMS?

What Can Amazon Web Services Be Used For?
Although Amazon Web Services is a cool technology, it also provides the very useful function of enabling business partners to interact with Web site through standard protocols. This interaction can lead to a deeper, more valuable relationship for parties involved. Here are a few of the ways that partners are benefiting from Web Services:
Associates: Associates program enables Web sites to link to Amazon.com and earn referral fees for sales that they drive through their links. Many Associates are now using Web Services to build more effective links to our store, thus enhancing their sites and earning more money.
Sellers and Vendors: Amazon.com has thousands of third-party sellers who offer their products on our Web site. Using Web Services, these sellers can more easily manage large quantities of inventory on our platform, and download the latest product information to make sure that their products are competitively priced.
Developers: Among the thousands of developers who have signed up to our Web Services program, many are now creating solutions to help other people work with Amazon. These solutions are powered using our Web Services APIs.

  • Using non Internet wireless router for AirPrint, kills Internet experience via data plan.

Just bought an HP Laserjet Pro 400 with AirPrint.  In order to use it I added a wireless router, that is not connect to the Internet, as I am remote.  How can I print and go on the Internet without have to turn on and off my wifi?  I work remotely so I have no dsl or cable to plug my router into, yet in order to use my AirPrint I must have a router.  If I am connected to a wifi, my iPad assumes that is my preferred method to connect to the Internet....

I believe Verizon will only carry wireless N routers at the moment due to the fact that wireless AC is still in draft. Wireless N has been standardized.  But, glad to hear you got things working well enough. I suppose it wouldn't hurt to try asking for higher speeds to be delivered over the DSL. Most folks coming directly from a central office or from a specific type of remote terminal can get speeds reaching to 7Mbps or 15Mbps.
