Hi,
Can I use a 3G iPod dock with my new iPod nano ?
Is there a risk of damaging my nano ?

i dont think so but yes it could screw up the ipod but my dock came from fort lewis in washington its a military base they sell all gig nano docks at bx-pm

Using a dock with a car stereo

I just installed an Alpine car stereo that allows me to control my iPod with the controls on the stereo's face. It works great if I connect the iPod to the end of the Alpine supplied cable, but gets stuck in "searching" mode if I try to use an iPod dock at the end of the cable. I really would prefer to use the dock. I have to believe that not all of the contacts on the dock pass through - so the Alpine can not fully comunicate with my iPod. Does anyone know if the is a dock avaialble the allows a truely full conection? BTW the dock works fine on my computer, and home stereo. Thanks

Using iTunes 4 with nano

I use to have an ipod mini that finally had to be replaced so I bought a nano. I was using iTunes 4 with my mini and it has all of my music in it. I tried plugging in my nano to connect and automatically pull the music from itunes but it didn't work, there are still no songs on my nano.
Does the nano not work with this version of iTunes? Am i missing a step?

It's supposed to keep all the music. I've never heard of anyone upgrading from v4 to v7, though. That's a pretty big jump.
Always safest to make sure you have a backup, though.
The music is stored in an entirely different folder/directory than where the program is stored.

Trouble with Bose Remote Using a Docked iPod Nano

I have even ordered and received a new docking station from Bose, still the remote does not work as it should. It works to start and stop a song once I am safely in a playlist. It works to ff and rewind and to skip to the next song and go to the previous one. It can even skip to the next playlist, BUT I really don't know what playlist it is, since it only indicates for example 1 of 7 songs. No name, no other information. Also, I cannot get to the menu of playlists, or to the library. And so what I have to do is get there manually on the iPod itself, but I still cannot use the remote to scroll up and down the playlists. Nor can I scroll up and down the library. Has anyone had this problem? What have you done to fix it? I am very pleased with both the iPod and the Bose, but they are not working together. Bose kind of blames Apple (after though very nicely exchanging one) and Apple doesn't know what to say when I call. Thanks for any help!

I just spoke to BOSE and ythey claim that they do not offer the "menu" functionality. You can not use the menus via either of the remotes. You must make the changes on the ipod itself. What a bad solution for a $500.00 radio.

IPod mini dock with nano issue

After seeing a few people use their iPod mini dock successfully with the Nano, I thought I would try it on mine. It works just fine, except for the fact that after leaving the nano in the dock for a day or so I noticed that it became loose and I had to push it down again on the connector.
Has anyone else experienced this?

Probably just because while the connector is the same the molding is sized for the Mini not the Nano so it's not surprising it might come loose.

Vista dies when using Advanced Dock with Nvidia graphics card

I installed a Nvidia Gefore 8600GT video card in my advanced docking station but when i dock my laptop it freezes and has to be hard booted off the dock in order to work again. Do I have to use the ATI X1300 card?

The Advanced Dock only supports the ATI X1300 card and with XP.

Using 3G dock with 5G video?

I have a gen 3 iPod and I just bought a 5G video. I still have my dock from my 3G setup with my home stereo. I put my new 5G into the dock and it showed charging and it also played through my stereo.
What I was wondering was can I damage my 5G video with this dock? Do I need to buy a universal dock or will this be ok?

That dock will work fine. However, it will not play videos to a TV.
Make sure the iPod fits though. If there is extra room in the dock and the iPod leans too much, then you may damage the dock connector on the iPod.

IPod Nano and universal dock with remote.

i am looking to dock my nano on the universal dock and use it to connect to my stereo with the remote to change songs should i get the av connections kit. does the remote work well

Windows will not open with Nano in dock/charger?????

Hello to all.
This is first mp3 player and have not had a great experience so far. Technically this 2nd Gen 2G is my second one, the first was immediately returned to store becoause of problems.
Anyway, now my computer will not get past the first black screen where it checks it's drives and OS. It sees the primary and locks up. If I turn it off and disconnect the iPod and re-start, everything runs like it should.
I first discovered this with my 1st 2G and thought it was part of the problem. I was just leaving it plugged in with the USB charger cord when I turned off my computer in the evenings. I found a cool little charging dock with an RCA jack to plug into my bookshelk system by my computer. Still does the same thing! Downloaded iTunes 7.0, but still having the same problem!
This is my first experience with mac/Apple and so far between the PITA software, difficulties I am having with the Music Store, (another issue), and this start up problem, I ain't impressed!
Any help to ease my frustrations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

If you're not even booting into Windows, updating iTunes won't make a difference (as you've found out). What it sounds like to me is that your computer is trying to boot off your new Nano. Many newer computers allow booting off USB devices. It's possible (especially given the way you have explained the problem) that your computer is set to boot off of either external or USB devices first. This would explain why you had the same problem with your previous iPod. Do you know how to enter the BIOS in your computer? Usually when you first turn on your computer, it will flash hit F2, F10, Delete, or something like that in order to enter setup. You should be able to find something related to the boot order. You want to set it to boot from your hard drive first (or CD drive if you want... but then be sure your hard drive is next).

Using the Apple Universal Dock with an old amplifier?

Hi,
Yesterday, I bought the universal dock to hear the music I have on my iPhone on my home stereo, an old amplifier (NAD C320), connecting them with an 3.5mm <-> 2 RCA cable. I hear a little noise every 10 seconds, but there's no music.
I did the same thing with a more recent compact hi-fi (a Sonoro Cubo, with 3 years, that reads cd's with mp3 files), connecting the iPhone using a 3.5mm <-> 3.5mm, and I get the same noise.
What's my mistake? Thanks in advance.

I still couldn't find the time to go to the shop and test if there are any problems with the dock, but I already found an interesting answer:
- if I connect the jack coming from the amp directly to the earphone plug (without using the dock), it all works fine; this means that the problem is either related with the dock or the phone plug that connects to the dock (the one that's used to charge the battery); this narrows the problem to two options, so I only need to go to the shop and test another dock.

I don't believe it is the docking station as it is never moved, only I use it (older and single). Could it be a setting? Help

iPods, iPhones, and iPads aren't tied to one particular iTunes accout/Apple ID. So there are no special instructions to follow to allow you to sync it with your newer account. Simply sync it as you would your iPhone 4.
