Using 5.1 surround sound speaker set with my laptop

1. HP Pavilion DV6-6150EW QA944EA
2. Windows 7 Profesional 64 bit
This is my laptop.
I want to buy a set of 5.1 surround sounds speakers (most likely some cheap and popular creative inspire Inspire T6160).
My question is will they work with my laptop? Ill have to just plug cable from that speaker set into my 3.5mm jack socket on the left side of laptop (where i usually plug in headphones) and it will work?
Or this laptop dont have 5.1 sound?
I didnt found what sound card it has, all i found is that its beats audio and IDT High Definition audio codec (driver date: 2012-03-23, driver version 6.10.6395.0).
I would appreciate help sice i dont want to find out that if i buy speakers they wont work (or only 2 speakers will work).

Hey there,
I would recommend using one of these USB audio processors: http://goo.gl/5z9Gm
This is just the first one I found so do you research to see which one fits your needs the best. I looked at your laptops spec's and could not tell if you had any digital output connectors. HDMI will also transfer digital audio, it just depends on what your trying to accomplish.
Hope this helps!

  • Using creative surround sound speaker package with Mac - any chance?

hi - I have Creative THX 7.1 surround sound speakers. They work well with my PC and its creative soundcard. Will they work at all with an Imac? I have a sinking feeling they won't?

What sort of inputs does this system have (e.g. digital optical, RCA, miniplug)? If any other than digital optical, you may need a decoder or other external sound card to use these speakers with your iMac.

  • How do i get my surround sound to work with my laptop while using a hdmi cable for the video

I have a Sony surround sound  system hooked up that works great. My X-Box 360 works with it and I can get my HP G60 to play audio files through the surround sound system with a red and white audio jack plugged into the back of my surround sound receiver, the red and white audio cord goes to a 3.5mm headphone jack that i plug into the headphone plug on the front of my computer. The problem occurs when I hook my HDMI cable into my computer and connect it to my Samsung Flat screen, the HDMI sound takes over and wont allow the sound to go through the headphone jack. My tv does not have any audio output plugs, and my suround sound reciever doesnt have an HDMI input. Is there a setting on the computer that will allow me to over ride the HDMI sound and direct the sound through the head phones? or is there an app or tool that will allow my laptop to recognize my suround sound system plugged into my laptop? I have been to best buy, walmart, radio shack and even my local car audio store to ask about this issue and everyone has a different solution, and so far none of them have worked???????? sincerley frustrated! please help!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

    Hello JaeRoc48,
I understand that the sound is not working.
    Go to start.
    Type Sound.
    Select sound.
    Select speakers as default.
    Click OK.
Let me know how everything goes.

  • Dolby Digital Surround Sound dropping out with channel chang

Currently I have my cable box hooked up to my extrenal I/O box for my Audigy Platinum Pro ZS2 via my cable boxes SPDIF optical out to the I/O boxes optical in. With my initial set up I went to the AudioHQ and changed my Device Controls/Digital Input controls to SPDIF (Dolby Digital/DTS SPDIF-In Decode) and I had beautiful surround sound, but the only problem is that when I change the channel I lose all sound and I have to go back to the AudioHQ controls and change the Digital Input setting back to the (Default) setting and then change it back to the SPDIFDolby digital....etc, and then the sound comes back. So why is it that whenever I change the channel I lose my optical connection?and sound?and have to reset my Digital Input settings in order to get the sound back?Somebody please help...thanks. Jacob

Sry, your comment is 5 month old, but i have to ask you some thing too:
What headset do you use for the surround sound? I read EVERYWERE that headsets can just output games / music in stereo... for example the logitech g35...
    Hope you can help me

  • 5.1 Surround Sound in VLC with OSS4

I don't seem to get 5.1 surround sound in vlc with oss4. The audio device's available in vlc are stereo and mono only even when playing 5.1 surround sound compatible media.
    Is this issue still unresolved?

    ok.... strap your-self in Freddie
with a surround panner, bleed-over (on to other channels) can be ugly as i have found surround panners are anything BUT precise (perhaps accurate, as you say but NOT precise). Oh don't forget that sub channel. The bus trick really helps out here with limiting and compression..blahblahblah.. Automation with panning (on the main track) and bussing (i know this sounds goof-ball) making dup tracks for different panning functions (like sweeping aircraft sound spinning around the sweat-spot spectrum) leverages standard (old-skool) automation 'thinking' rather then the (new-skool) surround panner thinking... plus i'm still waiting for a low cost HUI style mixer with REAL tactical 3d surround panning joysticks so i can truly leave the stereo world. the mouse and a surround panner is the 'lame' some times.
But, yah, i do mix in both worlds..5.1 panners and my uber-hax0r bus panners. To tell the truth, when i'm in LP7 i still have use my bus trick in conjunction with 5.1 panners. Kinda too bad however that logic (Pro and Express) don't have the kewl mono/stereo into 5.1 effects of Digital Performer... oh well... good luck all you AC-3'ers out there!.. i'm going back to work...[beep]

  • Having trouble using my 5.1 surround sound speaker system and can't configure itunes to use it

With my Logitech Surround Sound Speakers Z506 I am listening to music with itunes and i have 5 speakers total with a subwoofer, the configuration is two front, one center, two rear, and a subwoofer. The front , center and subwoofer are fine but the rear pair speakers do not have any playback with them. I am wondering if you don't mind helping me troubleshoot this problem.
Thank you have a nice day
    Cole

Well I'm not using Vista I'm using XP SP2 and I have the same problem.
On the windows sound control panel there is a button called speaker volume. when you click on it you get a bunch of sliders with channels -8. Ive discovered that if I move the master sound control in any of the Creative Sound modes software Entertainment/Audio Creation or Gaming the channel sliders in the windows control panel numbered 3-7 all go to zero which stops the surround sound working. It leaves channels and 2 and 8 alone which can be changed with the sound control in the creative software.
Even checking move all the slides together option on the windows control panel is cancelled as soon as I twitch the main sound control. It's driving me nuts. I keep thinking I must be missing something really obvious here but alas I can't think what.
Ive tried lots of different solutions to no avail. Interestingly when I tried to use the autodriver update thing on the creative web site it said that i am using Vista and you'll have to download manually. Which I did and still didnt resolve my problem.
Sorry no solutions just more problems lets hope someone can help!
Edit - Just discovered - I have XFi Pro if I use the I/O Console volume dial it works fine, but if I use the software volume control it all goes wrong. Think I posted in the wrong thread as well as this is vista but it just seemed so relevant.

  • MUSIC VIDEO -SURROUND SOUND NOT WORKING WITH 7.0

My surround sound 5.1 does not work with downloaded music video playblack on windows iTunes 7.0. It used to work before I updated to 7.0. At first, my surround sound would not work with 7.0 for any iTunes songs, not just downloaded videos. However, that was corrected with the version 7.0.1 update. However, surround sound still does not work on videos I am trying to play back. This includes music videos that I purchesed both before and after downloading iTunes update 7.0.1. Has anyone got any suggestions for how to fix this problem so that my surround sound 5.1 will work on playback of the music videos?

I have an Airport Express that is linked to my TV. It is interfaced to my Denon AVR. To get surround sound I had to just select the correct output option via the Denon. Then the speakers set up for SS would work.

  • X1 Carbon 2015 : Cracking sound speaker, especially with Dolby on (and other issues)

    Hi all,
I just received my new X1 Carbon 2015. This is the first time I purchase a Lenovo Device after years with Dell.
Unfortunately, the sound quality is horrible, but I am not sure if this is by design of if the laptop is faulty..
The sound is very bad when it is coming from the speakers, especially the left speaker: the sound is cracking and saturating. This is especially true when the Dolby is on, and you clearly hear the problem with standard Windows event sounds (for example the sound you can hear when you adjust the volume with the slide on the sound icon next to the clock), or any warning sound.
No problem if I use an headset.
Am I alone with that issue?
Even if the device looks great, I have to say that I am overall disappointed by the laptop quality, especially regarding the cost of that device (this is the Core i7 with QHD touchscreen and 512GB PciE SSD):
    - When I received it last week, the left button from the trackpad was stuck (impossible to use). I had to gently scratch the side of the trackpad button to release the button. Probably some remains of the manufacturing blocking the button.
    - Then I noticed that sound issue.
    - And finally yesterday, I discovered a spot on the bottom right of the screen. Not a dead pixel, but a clear spot behind the pixels, 1 square millimeter,  reflecting the backlight.
    Thanks
    Pierre

Just had the IBM service tech at my house to replace the left speaker (I had purchased on-site service contract). He replaced it with a new one, and it now sounds normal - the distorted cracking & buzzing is gone. There appeared to be some tiny nicks or cracks on the original speaker element, which may have caused the problem.
The process was fairly painless. Lenovo had the part in stock, shipped it to a local tech, who scheduled the service call within a day.
The sound quality of course still isn't great without external speakers or headphones - these are just tiny little ultrabook speakers, after all. But at least now the sound from the built-in speakers meets my expectations, and doesn't make me cringe when I hear it. Once again enjoying my new Carbon X1...

  • How to get Surround Sound to work With Itunes 7 and Stop Skipping

A common problem for surround sound with itunes 7 appears to come from Creative sound cards. The way to fix this problem is to right click on the volume icon in the taskbar and open the EAX Console. Open the CMSS 3D tab and check the box that says Enable CMSS 3D and set both CMSS and CMSS2 to 0% in the stereo focus slider. It should work. Remember to have the volume slider in itunes at 100%.
If that doesn't work then open the quicktime preferences in the controlpanel/quicktime. Then go to the audio tab, uncheck the safe mode box. Set the rate to 64 kHz and the size to 16 bit. Then set the channels to 5.1
This should all make it work, after hours of struggling i've found these successful settings and am loving it!
For those of you who have sound skipping during transitions----
Go to the preferences of Itunes and go to the Playback tab, disable the crossfading between songs and you should play skip free!!!!

  • Using 5.1 Surround Sound w/ MacBook Pro

I have an existing Logitec z506 PC surround sound system hookd into my HP Pavillion desktop so I can get surround sound from it (back, center, front/sub). I also have HDMI from my HP to the TV to get video. Now the new retina Macbook Pro has HDMI for video but doesn't have the same green, black and orange ports for audio as my HP does. I'm thinking I'll need a new surround sound setup for my Macbook Pro. It would also be nice to use it with my AppleTV, Xbox 360, etc.  I think all these devices, including my TV and my desktop have an optical audio connection. Is there a cable that goes from optical to a different 5.1 surround sound system? I wan't the true 5.1 center, sub, front left, front right, back left and back right working with all my stuff, specifically MacBook Pro. Will I need a dedicated AV reciever for this?

here is a link to the cable --

and here is a link to the adaptors --

printout the pictures, and take them with you to your local store.
(I do not know if your computer has the capability to do 5.1 output)

  • How to make a 5.1 Surround Sound Blu-Ray with FCP

Being disappointed that FCP only makes Blu-Ray discs with a stereo soundtrack I decided to find a way to make one with my 5.1 soundtrack. After hacking the build process by replacing the stereo AC3 file with a 5.1 version while it was still making the video file I stumbled on a very simple method of making a 5.1 Blu-Ray.
In FCP, choose Share and select Blu-Ray. Check the box that says something like "burn Blu-Ray disc". When the project is ready to transcode and burn, hit the "Send to Compressor" button. Once in compressor, right-click on the Dolby Digital 2.0 setting and select "Edit Setting" (or "Change setting", not sure which, my FCP machine somewhere else at the moment) and browse to the 5.1 Dolby Digital setting. Select it and submit the job. When done, you'll have a 5.1 Blu-Ray disc of your project.

There is no way to create a real Dolby sound unfortunately. The mac currently only supports 2 channel outputs. There are interfaces you can buy that will separate the bass and send it to the subwoofer, and fake a 5 channel sound field, but ultimately it will only run 2 sets of stereo speakers, and one mono in the middle, so it is not true surround sound.

How can I connect 5.1 speakers to Macbook Pro 13 bought Summer 2011
I wish there were a way to do it, I personally am a recording musician and an audiophile, and have looked for the same thing on several occasions. But unfortunately at the time, it seems as though there is not the hardware to do it.

  • Surround sound doesnt work with 7.1.1

Ever since I upgraded to 7.1.1 surround sound will not work only plays in front 2 speakers. Quick time preferences have channels set to 5.1....control panel sounds has speakers set to 5.1 ....all other applications (media player etc.) can use all speakers...its only iTunes that has the issue.
Really frustrating anyone have any ideas??
    7.1.1 Windows XP

    Hey Todd,
The four vis that you listed are a part of the traditional DAQ driver. It looks like you don't have that driver installed or that you don't have support installed. One quick way to check and see if you have the traditional DAQ driver installed is to go to LabVIEW, then pull up the functions palette. Go to NI Measurements>>Data Acquisition. If you don't have the "data acquisition" option, then either support or the driver itself isn't installed. The next step is to go to the Measurement and Automation Explorer (Start>>Programs>>National Instruments>> Measurement & Automation). On the left hand side of the window, you'll see a directory structure. Under My system, you'll see a "software" directory. Expand it. Look for something called "Traditional DAQ". If you don't have it, then you don't have the traditional DAQ driver installed and that's the problem. To install the driver go to the following web site http://search.ni.com/nisearch/nisearchservlet?nistype=default&filter=+%2BProductLine%3A41+%2BDownloa.... I'm assuming you're using WinXP. Download and install the driver. If you have hardware physically installed in the computer when you install the driver, that adds another step. You'll have to perform a repair of the driver once it's installed. You can do this by going to Start>>Settings>>Control Panel>>Add Remove Programs>>NI Software. Then select change. That should create a list of currently installed software. Select "NI-DAQmx" and then hit the repair button.
One last note. When installing the driver, make sure you select to install support for LabVIEW. You should now see the vis that you were missing in LabVIEW and therefore the program should now run.

  • 5.1 surround sound on s5160f with Nvidia and Realtek cards

product_name : HP Pavilion Slimline s5160f Desktop PC

The HP guy told me to load this driver

    it didnt' work.
My audio is coming out through the HDMI cable which is from the NVIDIA card.  I tried other solutions, including updating the NVIDIA drivers for similar problems.  Someone suggested going though SPDIF, but VLC just has an option to use SPDIF when availble, you can't exclusively set it.
How do I get 5.1 surround sound sent through the HDMI connection?  I've used VLC and the builtin Blu-Ray player software and I'm running out of ideas.

Is there a way to identify which computer outputs support 5.1 sound?  It is a media center PC, but I can't find that information anywhere.

  • X-Fi surround sound speaker assignment issue in VI

OK, here's my system:Intel Core 2 duo X6800, BFG 680i mobo, 2gb Corsair PC936, 8800GTX SLI, Soundblaster X-Fi Fatality FPS, Vista Ultimate, Logitech Z5500 So, due to the new vid cards, I decided to upgrade to Vista Ultimate for DX0 capability. Creative sent me the Vista installation disk and I installed. Here's the problem: The speaker assignments are all screwed up: The front left sound is coming out of the center channel, the center channel is coming our of the front left speaker, the front right is coming out of the subwoofer and the subwoofer is coming out of the front right. Oddly, the rears seem just fine. I ran the Logitech sound test on the z5500's and sound generates properly per that test. So, now that my PC sound is all screwed up, what the hell is the problem This sound card worked fine last week, when it was running in XP. Any ideas Any advice Please help!!

  • I can not get 3D surround sound to work with my X-Fi and headhones please he

I have an X-Fi Xtrememusic soundcard and I have been unable to get possitional sound working consistantly with two sets of stereo headphones. I have the latest drivers installed and have creative audio console set to: headphones, game mode, CMSS 3D and I still have no possitional sound at all. Noises seem to come from above my head I can't tell right from left or forward from backward in other words I am completely lost as to were sounds are coming from in games. I used to be able to get possistional sound to function by changing headphones in the creative audio console to 2. or 4. speakers.
If I set the mode to 5. or higher the sounds in games (footsteps, weapons fire) would become heavily muted and hard to hear while I would gain better positional sound for other players and now this does not work at all. I have also tried disabling sync to windows control panel and changing its sound options and there have been no beneifts from doing so. In settings other then stereo headphones no sound was produced at all while others stopped sound coming from one of my headphone speakers. I am at a total loss I can not think of anything thing else to fiddle with.
My system specs: Athlon 64 4000+ San Diego, ASUS A8N-E mobo, 2GB DDR400 2.5CAS Buffalo ram, EVGA 7800GT CO, X-Fi Xtrememusic. No popping or crackling sound at least. Thank you you reading this.

Hay everyone thanks for the advise but i was finally told by one of the support personnel that I actually need the dri've bay insert that comes with the fidelity in order to get the cmss 3d to work with the headphones.
I only purchased the extreme gamer not the extreme gamer fidelity and that is why i cant get the cmss 3d to work but it still advertises on the box that you can use the cmss 3d and get that feature.? Should have done homework but i was out Christmas shopping and i went off of what the box advertised. This is very unusual for me to shop compulsi'vely. The funny thing is that everything else on the box that is advertised such as the increase of the CPU and the EAX HD features are able to be used. Im very upset about this because I particularly bought this card for the cmss 3d. I really don't know if i will ever recommend another Creative Product to any of the people i do computer repair or gamer builds for, unless this gets resolved and the only way to resolve this is to get the cmss 3D to work. By the way I did do a full reinstall even with clean boot so that isn't the problem. I'm really upset and ready to return this product to Best Buy unless this can be resolved. Any admin that comes across this please send me any ways of getting a hold of anyone that can help. Tks and hope yall had a wonderful Thanksgiving.
