Using a 5800 on Virgin

I recently recieved a Nokia 5800 as a free upgrade on a T Mobile contract. As I have just bought a new Blackberry 8900 though, I have given it to my fiance. However she is on Virgin and the internet does not seem to work nor can she set up her push email.  Why would this be?
I know that on T Mobile if you do not have Web'n'Walk, their internet browsing service, then if you do go onto the internet they just charge you but she canot go onto the internet at all. Anyone know  how Virgin works, or have any ideas?
Any help or advice much appreciated.
Joe

When going to another network, you'd need to set the phone with the new Gateways, proxies, etc. You do not mention USA or UK, but if in the UK then...

  • Is it possible to use a WVC80N on Virgin Mobiles Mifi2000 Hotspot?

Anyone know if it is possible to use a WVC80N on Virgin Mobiles Mifi2000 Hotspot?  I live out in the country and the only network connection we have is via the Mifi2000 3G portable Wifi Hotspot.
So far I have not had any luck setting this up, mainly due to the fact that I can have one device talk to another device locally across the hotspot, so all setup would have to be done on a dummy / closed network.  I tried this but wasn't successful in getting it to accept the Mifi2000 wireless access point.  It saw it and recongnized that it had WPA but after entering the key and complelying what i thought was the last step of the wireless config, it just fails to connect.
Of course, the mifi2000 also automatically passes out dynamic ips, so i have to use a DDNS service...but can't get that far.
    Anyone know?
    -Cox

How many computers do you have in the network?
What is the IP address and default gateway number on your computer?
In order to connect to the wireless network, WVC80N should get valid IP address from the access point.
If the access point has capacity to assign a private IP address to the computers and devices then I think you can use WVC80N.

  • Using Nokia 5800 GPS and accepting a call

Hi, I was wondering if there was a way to answer calls while the GPS is on on my Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition.  Currently, when I use the GPS and someone calls, I tap the answer button, but I get a message that says not allowed.  I was looking around in the settings, but can't find anything.  I was hoping there would be a way to answer the call and turn on the speakerphone so I can drive and talk at the same time.  Anyway know if this is possible?
    Thanks!

Getting my first call during active turn-by-turn navigation, I wondered about this strange behaviour too. As it is I dont see any green phone icon on the navigation screen. With the terminal placed in the included windscreen fixture, it is hardly traffic safe to have to press many buttons to get the handsfree activated! Nokia could consider another option on the main screen when a call is waiting to be accepted, for going directly to speakerphone-mode, or at least a configurable option within the maps application. As of now it jumps back to the maps app, which induces the added (two) press of the application switch button. I suppose buying a separate handsfree kit might 'solve' this basic issue, but that should really not be needed out-of-the-box with a dedicated navigation edition. If someone figures a setting that I have overlooked, I would be pleased to get a hint, thx.

Can somebody provide me with some technical advise?

Update to my Network Connectivity Dilemma.
Please correct me if I am wrong.
It seems I can use 802.1x WI-FI Security mode authentication to connect to WLANs that are configured for WPA2 Enterprise  since both authentication methods use the same security settings in a WLan Infrastructure.
They both have EAP with similar EAP Plug-in settings.
If this theory is correct, then I can use my Nokia 5800 to access a WPA2 Enterprise authentication Wlan with the 802.1x WI-FI Security mode.
    Objections any body?

  • Using Instron 5800 in Labview 7.0

    Hi,
Please forgive me if I am very general in my question but that is because I am new to Labview. My situation is that I am trying to measure resistance data (from a DMM) and force data (from an Instron 5800 UTS machine) simultaneously during a compression test. The instrument controller for the 5800 is interfaced with my PC through a GPIB bus and uses its own proprietary control software. However it did come with Instron drivers and example Labview programs in order for interfacing with Labview. When I run that program it stops and cannot find the vi file 'Data Acquisition Initialize.vi" and some other vi's. Is this an important file? is it NI's responsibility or is it Instron?
Also if I try to approach the problem the other way (not use the example prog. but make my own Labview) then I can see the Instrument as a GPIB bus in MAX but the following information is displayed ('Instrument0', 'Primary Address = 3', Description - 'This device did not respond to a *IDN? query').
Any help on how to approach this problem would be much appreciated,
    Thank you,

Where did you get the drivers? Were they from here? There is no mention of proprietary software required. In fact, I find it quite difficult to believe that proprietary software is required. If it's a GPIB instrument it would respond to GPIB commands, and that's not proprietary.
When I run that program it stops and cannot find the vi file 'Data Acquisition Initialize.vi" and some other vi's. Is this an important file? is it NI's responsibility or is it Instron?
I think you mean when you tried to open the program. If there's a subVI missing you won't be able to run the program. That VI is not a standard VI. It sounds like a VI from the instrument driver library.
Also if I try to approach the problem the other way (not use the example prog. but make my own Labview) then I can see the Instrument as a GPIB bus in MAX but the following information is displayed ('Instrument0', 'Primary Address = 3', Description - 'This device did not respond to a *IDN? query').
This happens often, especially with older instruments. All it means is the the instrument does not implement the standard *IDN? command. Within the instrument's set of commands it's probably a different command.

  • Help! I can't use my 5800 GPS

Keep in mind that I am a female ( I dont get GPS at ALL ), and I have been having a lot of trouble with the GPS.
I just can't figure out how to use it. I have read the FAQ on Nokia's website which tell me NOTHING.
I open the GPS, and it shows my current location. I press Options > Search > Addresses
And I put in the address that I want to go to, and it says not found.
I then put in another address. Not found.
I tried 5 address in 5 different ways and every time it says it isn't found.
I have full reception on my handset and the latest Firmware.
How do I go from one address to another?
    Please help :/

I typed into my ovi.com account on my computer, the following:
Alpha Street, Blacktown, New South Wales, Australia
I found Alpha Park near Westpoint Blacktown Shopping Center between Patrick and Balmoral streets. If that is what you are looking for, I can only recommend as a minor fix to your issue to add a bunch of your favorites on your Ovi online account and sync them to Maps on your 5800.
That is what I did for about a dozen places I go to a lot and it was much easier on my computer and easy to sync.

  • Can I use iPad in US Virgin Islands?

my brother is considering his first Apple product in twenty plus years.  Only problem is he lives on St. Thomas, USVI.  He has had a recent very bad experience with B&N "Nook."  They happily sold it to him, shipped and paid for from USVI and it won't work in USVI!  Simple question:  He wants it for magazine subscriptions; will it work completely in USVI?
    Thank you!

I think I have found that he would be able to use the pad in USVI.  I think the apps will work on wifi for email, web.  His biggest issue is his periodicals.  Does anyone know if all his mag subscriptions will work with Newsstand in St. Thomas, USVI?  Will he be able to start from scratch in USVI and download his subscriptions for, say, People magazine or Wall Street Journal?  He LIVES there, so he won't likely come up here to the states, buy it, set it up, then return home to USVI to "trick" the system.
Thank you for any experience you may have with this...

  • Nokia 5800 and Virgin Mobile (Australia) data setu...

Has anyone here got their 5800xm working with Virgin Mobile Australia data plans?  I have been having much trouble getting the browsing to work on my phone and have spoken to Virgin a number of times.  Any help would be appreciated.  Perhaps there is a setting in the phone that I need to change etc that I don't know about?

The reason virgin won't give you the settings is because it's not a model they sell.
What you need to do is call them and tell them a different model. For example ask them for the settings for a nokia 2330 instead as they do sell that model and the settings will work on your 2220.
The settings may also work through the link below but i'm unable to test it.

Have you tried device without memory card in place? Pain as it may be backing up essential data, you may have to consider a "hard reset" to exclude any possible software corruption or possbly re-install current version of firmware.

  • 5800: Java applications do not use Wifi connection

Using my 5800 phone, Java applications (e.g. Opera Mini)  always use a 3G connection despite Wifi is available.
When I moved the 3G access point to another section under 'Destinations' in my connectivity setup, so I left
only Wifi connections in my 'Internet' section, Java applications do not connect to the internet anymore.
I want to let me select preferably Wifi when available.
Other applications (Web, Google Maps) work correctly.
    Any ideas on this ?
    Nokia 5800
    FW 30.0.011

The only java app that I had that issue with was opera mini.
    Solved it by doing this:
Menu > Settings > Application Mgr. > Installed Apps. > Select "Opera Mini" > Options > Suite Settings > Access Point
I then selected my wireless router.
Soon after I decided that opera mini was more trouble than it's worth due the sites that didn't work properly and switched back to the standard browser.
The setting above should work for other java apps that don't behave too, each app retains it's own individual settings.

  • I am now stuck with an iphone 4 can i use it for virgin mobile?

i had sprint for a while, when i got the Iphone for sprint my service became horrid and i decided to just swich over to a different company, now the company that i have is also awful and i am considering switching over to virgin mobile and i now see that they have the IPhone. can i use my IPhone with Virgin Mobile even if it is a sprint iphone? the ESN is clean and all.

Contact Sprint to find out if they will unlock it for use on other carriers.
If they will unlock the CDMA side (unlikely), contact Virgin and ask if they will allow the device on their network, again unlikely.
