Using a Airport Express Base Station for wireless printing.

Using a Airport Express Base Station for wireless printing. Got a new DSL router yesterday. Our old one we did not have password protected. The new one is. I can't figure out how to get the base station to connect with the new router.

thanks for the reply,   I couldn't connect with the base station.  The solution (thank you apple genius bar) was to do a soft rest of the unit which allowed and ethernet connectiont to be established.  Took the genius bar gy about ten min (and 2 attempts) to get the base station reconfigured.  Got home and it worked like a charm.  Would have never known what he knew.  Thank you genius bar.  Thank you for taking time to respond.

  • Connecting to multiple Airport Express base stations for internet and TV?

I want to be able to use wireless internet and stream music to my stereo at the same time, but I only have a single ethernet connection behind my stereo and it's connected to the Pay TV. My options seem to be an ethernet splitter (maybe - any ideas?), getting a new ethernet connection installed behind the stereo so I can insert this into the same Airport Express base station I use for my music, or buying a second Airport Express base station and connecting it to one of the other internet connections in the room, then connecting to both Airport Express base stations at the same time.
Is this possible? Are there other alternatives?
    Many thanks

Nate, Welcome to the discussion area!
Once you have a network, you can connect multiple AirPort Express (AX) to that network (wirelessly or via Ethernet). When your computer joins that network it can access all the AX.
You could take your current internet connection and run it into an inexpensive router with multiple Ethernet ports (not the AX). If this is a wireless router then your AXs could be located elsewhere and connect as wireless clients to that network. Once you computer joined that network it could stream music to the AXs.

  • Can I use an Airport Express Base Station to extend non-Apple router range?

We have a Netgear 802.11n router in our house. I just bought a MacBook Pro and now am accessing out wifi from the other end of the house along with my iPod Touch 4g. Both seem to show at best about half strength signal strength. House is small and nearly all devices on same floor.
Can I use the Apple Airport Express Base Station as a bridge to extend our wifi network giving me stronger signal for my Apple devices or will it only work with Apple routers? Netgear and others like Hawking make wifi range extenders and those are still under consideration.

It would be extremely unlikely that an AirPort Express would "extend" the wireless network produced by the Netgear router using wireless only. Apple's "extend" feature appears to be proprietary among Apple "n" routers. As far as we know, it does not work with any other manufacturer's products for the purpose of wireless only extension.
If you are planning to connect the AirPort Express to the Netgear using an ethernet connection, then it could be configured to extend that way.

  • Airport express base station as Wireless Access Point?

I purchased the Airport Express base station with the intent of providing wi-fi for my office.  There is already a router with the radio turned off serving as a network switch.  Can I add the Airport express as a wireless access point?

Sorry, I do not have an iOS device handy to try to figure out what is going wrong. Having tried this in the past though, I have noticed that AirPort Utility for iOS tries to analyze the connection and then configure things automatically.
Unfortunately, it does not always choose the correct settings and then it is necessary to look for a way to manually configure things.
I may be able to use my wife's iPad later today. Please confirm that you are connecting an Ethernet cable from one of the LAN <-> ports on the router or switch to the WAN "O" port on the AirPort Express so that I can set things up exactly the same way here and work on a manual procedure for the configuration.

  • Can't read airport express base station configuration wirelessly

    The setup:
2TB time capsule that takes the ethernet feed from the cable modem for internet access.
Airport express 802.11g plugged into speakers for Airtunes. No ethernet connection, just a wireless network.
    The problem:
I can only read the airport express base station configuration when the mac is plugged into the time capsule by ethernet cable. This does not happen with the other mac I have on the network. It can connect to both the time capsule and the airport express without any problems. So unless I'm plugged in, iTunes and airtunes doesn't connect to the base station, and neither can Airfoil 3.5 or Airport Utility. Airport Utility does see the airport express. It just doesn't read the configuration wirelessly.
I think this had something to do with elgato eyetv not liking airfoil, but I can't say for sure.
    Any thoughts?

When I switch it on all three lights flash, but then after a while the middle one stays on and nothing happens.
You posted in the AirPort Express area, but it sounds like you have an AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS)--correct?
If so, let's start by performing a complete power recycling of your network components to make sure that the BT Voyager router "recognizes" the AEBS.
    Modem/Router Power Recycling - Quick
    - Power-off the BT Voyager modem, AEBS, & computer(s); Wait at least 5 minutes.
    - Power-on the BT Voyager modem; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    - Power-on the AEBS; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    - Power-on the computer(s)
If this fails to get the modem to "recognize" the Internet router, then try the "Full" version.
    Modem/Router Power ReCycling - Full
    - Power-off the BT Voyager modem, AEBS, & computer(s). (Wait at least 30 minutes. If possible, leave the modem off overnight.)
    - Power-on the BT Voyager modem; Wait at least 30 minutes.
    - Power-on the AEBS; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    - Power-on the computer(s)

  • Airport Express base station for internet

I have an airport express base station. How do I configure it to transmit internet wireless to the computers.

Since you will have, effectively, two routers in series, the AXn will need to be reconfigured as a bridge.
So you network configuration would look like the following: Netgear > AXn >>> wireless clients.
To set up the AXn as a "bridge," using the AirPort Utility, either connect to the AXn's wireless network or temporarily connect your computer directly (using an Ethernet cable) to the Ethernet port of the AXn, and then, check these settings:
    AirPort > Wireless tab
o Wireless Mode: Create a wireless network
    o Network Name: <leave the default>
o Radio Mode: <choose the desired radio mode>
    o Channel: Automatic
    Internet > Internet Connection
    o Connect Using: Ethernet
    o Configure IPv4: Using DHCP
o Ethernet WAN Port: Automatic (Default)
o Connection Sharing: Off (Bridge Mode)

  • Using an Airport express base station as a bridge

    Hello,
Sorry if the question has already been asked, but I'm getting nuts...
I have today a XP PC connected to the internet over WiFi (modem + router).
The problem is that router & PC are far one from the other in my house, and I bought this AirPort Express to extend the range of the existing network.
Could someone explain to me how to access to the configuration menu of the Airport to "tell him" that I want to use it as a bridge ?
I think I've done what's requested, but cannot access to any menu (although my PC is connected to the airport WLAN network).
    Thanks in advance

Unless your current router is an AirPort, you will find few non-AirPort routers that will work in a Wireless Distribution System (WDS). If your primary base station is an AirPort (Extreme or Express), let me know, and I will provide WDS setup instructions.
You would access the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) setup using either the AirPort Setup Assistant or the AirPort Admin Utility. Both of these come, either on the CD supplied with the AX, or can be downloaded directly from Apple. There is also a Windows version of the AirPort software at the Apple site. • Can I use the AirPort Express Base Station as a wifi 'reciever'?

I have a AirPort Extreme base station connect to the internet in my living room. But my bedroom is a little far from the living room so that I cannot revieve a good wifi. I want buy a AirPort Express Base Station to put in my bedroom connecting my PC. Will this way work to make my PC's internet faster??

    Hello:
You can extend a wi-fi network like this:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4259
That will not increase speed, but it will improve reception.

  • Can I use my Airport Express Base Station to charge my mini?

  • Can I use 2 airport express base stations to extend my G and N  networks?

I currently have my Time Capsule broadcasting an N only signal at 5ghz and use the router that came from the cable company to broadcast a G signal. Can I buy 2 expresses to repeat both networks?

Here's what I see when I try this. Your results may vary.
Depending on your connection quality, distance from the TC, etc., the speed will drop by approximately 40-50% if you change to the 2.4GHz compatible settings that you mention. In other words, if you were getting a Transfer Rate of 250-270 on 5GHz, the Transfer Rate will likely drop to 110-130.
This is assuming that there are only "n" devices active on the network. If you have a "g", or "b" device active on the network, the overall network speed will drop to "g" or "b" levels depending on the device that is active. If you have a "b" device active, the Transmit Rate will likely drop to the 25-30 range.
You can check the Transmit Rate on your Mac by holding down the "option" key while you click on the fan shaped Airport icon at the top of the screen.

  • AirPort Express Base Station - Use with HP Laser Jet & Time Warner

Have this brand new AirPort Express Base Station that I want to install in place of the Linksys router that is connected to the Time Warner cable base station delivering internet connection so I can connect HP Laser Jet 6/6mp printer via USB on the AirPort Express. Any recommendations or suggestions ?

    Thanks
    The question is this
If I use the Airport Express Base Station as wireless router for internet service coming in from Time Warner AND plug the HP LaserJet printer USB plug into the AirportExpressBaseStation will I be able to overcome the communication problem I am having when I plug in the HPLP's USB plug directly into the MacBookPro and cannot get use of the printer due to language ( Apple Talk vs Post Script ) problems ? Probably not make any difference since the USB female on the AEBS is just a conductor !

Can the airport express base station be wirelessly connected to the DCL modem?

    Alan,
Please provide more information.  (Make/model of the modem and airport express, Mac OS version, etc.)
Most likely your modem is the source of your internet connect and you sound like you are trying to extend your network through the airport express (which is a router).
I don't know what a "DCL modem" is.   Perhaps you meant "DSL".
Most internet modems are either a "Cable Modem" or a "DSL Modem".
Time Warner (TMC) and Comcast typically provide cable modems, which use a coaxial (round) cable.
"DSL Modems" are used with AT&T and they are connected to your telephone wires.
Both of these types of modems usually includes a router built-in, some include a wireless router, too.
Either way, I don't know of any way to connect an Airport base station to a router wirelessly.
That would be called a "bridge" in networking terms and while it may be possible, it is not common.
Most routers use a direct ethernet cable connection, because the data flows much faster than wirelessly.
Normally, one connects to their airport base station with an ethernet cable from the primary home/office computer.
It can be accessed wirelessly, but only if you enable that option in the Airport utility (not the default).
Again, connecting or bridging one router to another router is not a common method.

  • AirPort Express Base Station not recognized by Verizon MiFi 4G

I use an AirPort Express Base Station (AX) to connect wirelessly to my PC in order to play music from iTunes.  The AX is connected via wire to a sound system.  I have just changed from a Verizon MiFi 3G wi-fi hot spot to a Verizon MiFi 4G wi-fi hot spot.  I was able to use the AX on the Verizon MiFi 3G wi-fi hot spot with no problem.  But when I switched to the Verizon MiFi 4G wi-fi hot spot, I could not get the AX to work.  I used the AirPort Utility to update the AX settings, including changing from WPA to WPA2, and the AirPort Utility reported everything OK (green check mark at end of session), but the Verizon MiFi 4G wi-fi hotspot does not recognize the AX--the indicator light on the AX is blinking orange, not solid green.
Does anyone have any idea why the AX worked with the Verizon MiFi 3G hotspot but not with the Verizon MiFi 4G hotspot?
Is there some kind of workaround or another box to put in the system?
    Thanks.

It say's this on the main Apple Website:
Support for WPA requires Mac OS X v10.3 or later.  Use of Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) reduces the maximum number of network users. When joining an existing wireless network, AirPort Express supports only WPA-Personal. WPA2 requires a Mac computer with an AirPort Extreme Card and Mac OS X v10.3 or later.
So it has to be on WPA-Personal.
The Airport Utility should tell you what is wrong with it when it is orange.
Also, is it running on the same channel? For instance, are they both running on channel 1? Are you extending a network, or creating a network?
Hope that brain snap just puts everything together.

  • Can you add new AirPort Express Base Station Simultaneous dual-band 802.11n with a 1st Gen time capsule network

    Hi
Has anyone tried using the AirPort Express Base Station with a first generation Time Capsule and used it to extend their network, while still being able to use the Simultaneous dual-band 802.11n on their network?
    Thanks in advance

The first generation Time Capsule was not a simultaneous dual band device.
If you add the "new" AirPort Express to the network and configure it to "Extend a wireless network", it will extend the one single band signal that it is receiving from the Time Capsule.
In other words, the AirPort Express will not extend simultaneous dual bands in this type of setup...since it can only "extend" what it receives. You would need a simultaneous dual band Time Capsule if you want that type of functionality.

  • Airport Utility not seeing Airport Express base station

Since I got access to cable internet a few days ago, I've been using my Airport Express base station with no problems on my MacBook. Today I tried to set up my roommate's PC (she has Vista, if that matters) so she can get online. So we downloaded the AE Utility for Windows, then reset both the modem and the AE base about two times, but her computer won't see the Express base at all when it scans.
Any ideas? Do we need to go into her Network preferences on the Control Panel or something? I've been through the manual but it wasn't much help. Sorry this is such a basic question, thanks for all helpful suggestions!

    You had everything working properly.
There was no need for her to have Airport Utility on her computer as the Airport Base station was already set up.
Set your system up the way it was and then on her computer, just have her join the network.
Do not use Airport Utility for anything on her computer.
