Using a BlackBerry as an External Keyboard

Is there a way that I can use my BlackBerry as an external usb keyboard?  I'd like to connect the micro-usb cable to the BlackBerry and the USB connector to another device (like my PC, PlayStation, etc.)  Any idea if this is possible?

You want to only have the keyboard of the BlackBerry control the PC or playstation?
PC, yes. Look on AppWorld for the app, I can't even remember the name of it right now, lol
Playstation... No.

  • Can I use my ibook as the external keyboard for my Mac Mini?

Using a firewire to connect the two units. Or do I need to buy a separate keyboard to use with the Mini?
Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

It seems to me that while you CAN connect the mini to your iBook with FW (or ethernet) and run the mini from the iBook's keyboard and display, the performance of the combined system will be the poorest common factor between processor speed and data transfer speeds. In other words, while you will be able to run the mini and it's software, the combined iBook/mini system not going to perform all that well, and aside from possibly giving you access to software your iBook wouldn't be able to run (depending on what processor, speed and RAM it has), using a mini that way is typically not all that cost-effective.
Keyboards are cheap (I bought a $29.95 wireless USB keyboard/mouse combo from WalMart to use with mine at home), and a display need not cost much at all if you don't already have one.

Need help on IBM/Lenovo external keyboards w Trackpoint? Pic
I started my journey with Thinkpads on a T42, then T43.. then T61, X61T, R61 & T410 (bought for 2 cousins & they love it), W510 (dads new laptop). I may be a much recent convert but I swear by them now.
MAJOR ISSUE: Recently started feeling RSI (Repetitive Stress) & Carpal Tunnel symptoms (already doing stretches.. adjusted the desk.. & finding new adjustable LCD stand) since I am not using the Thinkpad directly... but using it docked with an External keyboard. Lot of Mousing as well. I'd like to go back to Thinkpad FEEL... or atleast have keyboard with a pointing device so my hands dont have to keep moving back n forth.
So, it would be great it some of my fellow T4x/T6x/X6x 'ers would guide me a bit on this... share their first hand experience, or what they've seen on these keyboards and feel free to point me to reliable sources of information.
Currently this would greatly be use with T61 - Adv Mini Dock - 30" XHD3000 LCD as shown in my signature below.
Anyone who has used or know something about one of these Thinkpad related keyboard (ideally both of these to give a comparative response).
Which of the following have you used?
    How was the experience?
(Maybe point me to thread with peoples experiences)
If you've used several, which one do you prefer / recommend? Why?
At the moment I have a "slim" BTC 6200C desktop keyboard. It has laptop like scissor keyswitches, so I like it the slim notebook like profile.
The way I have positioned my 30" LCD I'd like to be able to keep the keyboard on my lap at times while on my chair and maybe on the desk at times.

I had the same issue - had to go to voice command for a few weeks (sucked) wore wrist gards to keep things netural.
Everything went away when I changed to a USB keyboard with the Ultra nav (I use the track point and disable the pad).
I've been working like that for 6+ years now... no issues.
(as a side note, sleeping with wrist guards on helped heal me the fastest.  I had neoprine, with a metal plate in them - from a local drug store)

  • I need to reprogram the delete and enter key to the left side of a external keyboard for the ipad mini. don't need the caps/lock or ctrl key and due to an injury my daughter can only use her left hand to type. She is using a text to speech app to verbaliz

I need to reprogram the delete and enter key to the left side of a external keyboard for the ipad mini. I don't need the caps/lock or ctrl key. Due to a brain injury my daughter can only use her left hand to type. She also uses a text to speech app to verbalize all of her needs since her speech isn't intelligible any longer either. And her vision was significantly affected also, so the keyboard has to be mounted about 6 inches from her face. So to reach across the keyboard with her left hand to the right side delete and enter button is physically difficult and causes typing errors, which cause people to not understand what shes trying to say.
The best keyboard so far is the Zagg folio mini. I just had to make stickers to enlarge the letters on the key buttons.
Does anyone know how I can reprogram these two keys? Or where I can buy a wireless mini keyboard for Ipad made for lefthanders with these two functions on the left side. I have searched for days and days. It's sooooo important to me that she be able to contribute her voice again. Imagine if you got in a car accident and couldn't speak clearly any longer, but understood everything still. Thanks for any help and suggestions you all take the time to share with me. I really appreciate the kindness of strangers to help me help my daughter.

    You cannot.

Yes, an external USB or Bluetooth keyboard and mouse can be used without problems.

  • HT201406 How can I use my external keyboard opposed to the internal key board on the screen.

I have a Zagg IPad, and the problem I'm having is the external keyboard that sits in the case will not work.  The internal keyboard on the screen is the only one that works.  How can I change the keyboard to work from the base instead of using the keyboard on the screen.

Have you ever paired them? If the keyboard and iPad have been paired, just turn the keyboard on, hit a key and give it a few seconds to power up and connect.
If you've never paired them then there should have been instructions with the keyboard to tell you how to do that.
If it just recently stopped working, you might try charging your keyboard.

  • Can I use my iPad as a laptop substitute with an external keyboard?

I'm sure this has been asked many times...
I've bought an external Apple bluetooth keyboard for my MacBook Pro
(I'm assuming that can use wth iPad?)
My work involves using a browser 95% of the time
I also do coding - PHP, Javascript and HTML

The external keyboard is really important - for serious keyboard typing, the screen isnt good

  • Best external keyboard & mouse to use with a macbook pro running using wind

I have been looking at the mstand to use my macbook pro on a desk, & learned it needs an external keyboard & mouse. Is there these items that will work without glitches in both mac os & windows? I will be using mac os as well as windows. I would also like to keep the cost down for the keyboard & mouse.

I have a better solution .. look at moshi zephyr
I am currently using that with a magic mouse and things just couldn't be better

  • Can I use my iPhone as an ipad keyboard.

Is there an app that will allow my iPhone 4 to function as a wireless keyboard for my ipad?

I haven't found one but did see articles that the OS doesn't allow for it. There was one app, external keyboard, that sort of did it but got bad reviews.
I am coming from a blackberry and could type very fast on the physical keyboard. I would ideally want to use the iPhone as an input device for the iPad so i can use it more like a laptop.
Seems like this should be something that is native to the systems.

  • Troubleshooting issues using the BlackBerry Virtual Expert

Posted originally on the Inside BlackBerry Help Blog
Does your BlackBerry need a health assessment? Are you considering a repair? If so, check out the BlackBerry Virtual Expert (BBVE), a simple, self-guided diagnostic app for BlackBerry smartphones.
Depending on what type of smartphone you are using, you can run tests to help identify if an issue is occurring and get recommendations on how to solve the problem.
To help you get started with BBVE, here’s a quick overview of how to use this app and what to do if a tests fails.
How to use the BlackBerry Virtual Expert
If you are using BlackBerry 10 OS version 10.2.1, BlackBerry Virtual Expert is built in and can be found by opening the Help app followed by tapping Testing along the bottom toolbar. Within this screen, tap Try this now to open BBVE.
For smartphones running BlackBerry OS version 10.2 or earlier, or BlackBerry OS version 7.1 and earlier, to use BBVE you need to install it first.
To do this, open BlackBerry World on your smartphone and search for “BlackBerry Virtual Expert,” or use the following steps to scan a barcode. After installation is complete, look for the BBVE icon that appears on your home screen.
    Open BlackBerry World.
    Complete one of the following:
If your smartphone is running BlackBerry 10 OS, swipe down from the top of the screen and tapScan Barcode.
If your smartphone is running BlackBerry OS version 7.1 or earlier, press the Menu key followed by Scan a Barcode.
Scan the following barcode and tap Download.
After opening the BBVE, the Health tab appears by default which allows you to identify basic details about your smartphone and quickly access specific settings.
If you select Tests along the bottom toolbar, you can run all of the available tests at once or test a specific feature. To test everything at once, tap All Tests or select a specific feature or function you’d like to test.
If you have concerns about your headphone jack for example, select Audio Test to run a variety of audio-related tests, or optionally select Choose A Test followed by tapping on the specific test you’d like to run.
When you start testing a feature, follow the instructions displayed on your smartphone and complete the required actions followed by recording a result: Pass , Skip , or Fail . When all of the selected tests are completed you are shown your results indicating what passed, what tests were skipped, and of course, any tests that may have failed.
One of the BBVE tests failed! Help!
Should a test fail while using BBVE, after reviewing the suggestions on the Results tab, here are a few things you can do to help get an issue resolved efficiently.
Step 1 – Summarize the issue
Creating a summary of the issue you are encountering and recording what troubleshooting steps you have already taken is a great step that helps our support teams better assist you. In addition to creating a summary, obtain your BlackBerry smartphone details using the steps below.
If you are using a BlackBerry 10 smartphone, to identify your OS version, tap Settings > About and in theCategory drop-down list, select OS. To identify your PIN, tap Settings > About and in the Category drop-down list, select Hardware.
If you are using a BlackBerry OS smartphone, check out this post for help identifying this information.
Step 2 – Back up your device
When you contact support for a potential repair issue, they will guide you through this process, so doing this before you contact support can help speed things along.
If you are using a BlackBerry 10 smartphone, download and install BlackBerry Link for PC or Mac so you can back up your smartphone. For help backing up and restoring your smartphone data, please review the BlackBerry Link User Guide for PC or Mac.
If you are using a BlackBerry OS device, download BlackBerry Desktop Software to back up your smartphone. For help backing up and restoring your data, review the BlackBerry Desktop Software user guide (PC, Mac).
    Step 3 – Use self-service support options
Join the BlackBerry Support Community Forums and create a new post about your issue. Be sure to include the summary you created in step 1 because this allows community members to suggest alternative steps that may help resolve the issue you are encountering.
Review and search the BlackBerry Knowledge Base for a support article that may provide a solution to the issue you are encountering.
Step 4 – Contact your service provider or visit a BlackBerry Expert Center
If you are still unable to resolve the issue, consider contacting your service provider or BlackBerry Expert Center for additional assistance. As mentioned earlier, having your smartphone details and a summary of troubleshooting performed will help out whoever is assisting you with the issue.
For help contacting your service provider, search using your favorite browser for your service provider’s support website.
Depending on where you are located, you may have the option of visiting a BlackBerry Expert Center. For help finding a BlackBerry Expert Center near you, check out the following link: Find help at a BlackBerry Expert Center.
    Frequently asked questions
Why does BlackBerry Virtual Expert need permission X, Y & Z?
For BBVE to perform specific tests, select permissions must be enabled the first time you open BBVE. You can optionally disable some or all permissions but keep in mind any tests requiring disabled permissions will not work. If you run a test that requires a specific permission such as the ability to use the camera, you will receive a notification to update your permission settings.
    What tests does BBVE include?
Depending on which type of BlackBerry model you are using, available tests include:
    Touch Screen
    Display
    USB Port
    Main Keypad
    Keyboard
    Side keys
    Slider
    Cameras

I have a PowerBook G4 with a non-functioning monitor.  It used to work with an external monitor, but I reinstalled the OS, which cleared the display preferences and now when I restart it won't detect the external monitor. This means I can't use the computer anymore. How do I fix? I tried using the Command+F2 keyboard shortcut, but it doesnt' work.  It's possible that since I reinstalled the OS, it still needs to be set up, so there's only a welcome screen (but since I can't see it I'm not sure).

  • How to set "display mode" from external keyboard

I have an EliteBook 8570p in a docking station, with an external monitor and keyboard attached.
I typically have my display mode as "duplicate", with the same thing  showing on both my laptop screen and external monitor.  I use the external monitor as the main screen. This might be uncommon, but I prefer it this way.  I've been working this way for quite a while.
I very recently started using MS PowerPoint 2013.  Today I discovered an annoying bug with this combination.  I was in "slideshow mode" for a pptx I was working on, and I pressed ESC to get back to editing the doc.  What happened was that the external monitor just showed my background wallpaper, and the laptop screen showed the normal display, along with my background wallpaper.  I then had to slide over to my laptop keyboard and press Fn-F4 and set it to "Duplicate", and that restored my external monitor display.
I'm definitely going to pursue this weird behavior with PowerPoint, but I'm going to assume out of the box that this will be difficult to change.  What I'd like to get from this forum is simply a quicker way to restore the "Duplicate" display mode.  Is there a keyboard shortcut I can use from my external keyboard to change the display mode?  There's no "Fn" key.

Although I'd still like to get an answer to this, my original problem has been solved, as I was able to disable the feature in PowerPoint 2013 that mucked with my display mode (turn off "Use Presenter View").
