Using a bootcamp on a mac to which it is not native?

Using a bootcamp on a mac to which it is not native? long story, I have a complicated bootcamp windows configuration that I need to be able to use on a 2010 13" MacBook Pro, a 2012 15" Macbook Pro and if possible a 2008 Mac Pro. is there an easy way to install the necessary apple drivers for 3 separate computers into a single bootcamp?
Thanks, Pat.

Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.

  • I use the "Bootcamp" on my Mac to work between Mac and Windows. How do I get my iTunes music from the Mac side of my hard drive to the Windows side?

I use my "Bootcamp" harddrive to work on both the Mac side and Windows7 side of my computer. How do I get my Itunes Library from the Mac side to the Windows side of my Mac Book Pro?

Time Capsule is for backing up your data. It's not really a solution for live file storage; using it will not reduce the bloat of your boot volume.
If you have a lot of movies, music, etc. in your iTunes Library, that can be a good thing to move to an external drive. Here's how:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1449
After you follow those instructions to copy your media over to the external drive and point iTunes to it, you can delete it from your internal drive.

"At least 16 GB of free space on the disk onto which you’re installing for 32-bit, or 20 GB for 64-bit (for Microsoft Windows and Windows-based applications)."
That's what Apple proposes in here Boot Camp: System requirements for Microsoft Windows
Personally I would double these amounts and add to that the diskspace needed for your Windows games.

  • Do i need to buy a Mac Specific version of Windows to use with Bootcamp?

Hi i want to buy Windows 8.1 to install with Bootcamp cause i need some software that is only available for Windows.
I also plan to use VMWare Fusion so i can use one operating system or the other or even both at the same time.
My dilema is that when i got to download it it gives me 2 choices one says:
"MAC users only. This product is intended to be used in conjunction with third party virtualization software so that you can run Windows on your Mac."
And the other is specified as being for Windows.
So is there any difference between them in terms of how it will perform or what programs are included? Does it matter which one i get?
I have never heard of this choice before and i know people that have baught the normal Windows version for use with Bootcamp.
Thanks for reading any answers appreciated.

Vmware Fusion and Parallels allow the use of a Boot Camp installation as their respective guest operating system. There is no additional installation of Windows required nor is there a second licence required. The computer has only one installation of Windows. The virtual machine allows access to that installation.
I have used this configuration for years and have never required an additional licence. The Fusion and Parallels sites detail how to do this. Of course Windows will say it needs to be activated in both Boot Camp and virtual machine when first run after already having been run in the other. But the vm sites say how to handle the activation request.
All it takes is visiting the Windows licensing/activation site and when asked respond that Windows is only installed on a single computer. The activation site will issue a new licence. It may take a call to the automatic licensing call number you will be provided with if the site activation does not work for you.

Hi! I'm a Windows XP convert... switched to an imac about 4 months ago and am LOVIN' it As a graphics designer I did use a feature on my Windows machine which I really miss on my mac... beaing able to see a preview of one of the images in a folder on top of the folder icon. In other words, in Windows, you can see the first image that is inside the folder as an icon on the folder itself. Is there a way to do this on the mac? Maybe some software program that will do it? Thanks for you help!

It would be brilliant if Apple could make picture folders behave like events in iPhoto. You could see a photo on the folder, and also mouse over it to change pictures.
But no, there's not an application I'm aware of that does this. You can manually make a picture the folder icon, but it's a tedious process.
Unfortunately this is another example of how dated and worn out the Mac's interface is. The concept of using a file folder as the icon for a directory of images is so 80's. You could use coverflow, but that only helps once you're in the directory itself. Or use iPhoto or Aperture, although they just do photos. Or try Lyn as an alternative: it has a sort of iTunes-like interface, and makes it easy to organize photos without having to put them in iPhoto. And it can display photos that are already in Libraries.
But you'd probably need a Finder alternative. I use Leap, which displays any type of document. It also does tagging, which is another huge omission in the Finder. More like Windows Explorer (although still no photo on folder icons).
Another very stylish Finder alternative, especially useful for pictures, is FileBrowse. I don't know why it hasn't gotten more attention. It DOES put photo previews on the folders it shows. And allows one-click expansion to show the photo enlarged. It's super fast, and even allow you to group/sort by camera or flash! It really has to be seen to be appreciated. It works in Lion, although it doesn't seem to be have been updated lately. http://www.filebrowse.com/index.html

  • If you are attempting to update using a Mac or PC with which you do not normally sync

what happens when "If you are attempting to update using a Mac or PC with which you do not normally sync", & they say in step 2 or 3 in order not to loose your stuff "If you are updating your iOS device on a computer with which you do not normally sync , or if you disconnect your device before the sync process is complete, you may notice that some media content that was previously on your device is no longer there. You can restore this content by syncing with the Mac or PC with which you normally sync."
now what if the pc that was originally used to sync my ipod , has corrupt or  bad systems files that are causing it from working correctly...? when i plug it in to the o.g. operating sysytems (win xp) it doesnt ever recognize or discover the ipod through itunes.  the pc will pop up the "cameras been plugged in, what would you like to do...?" but nothing thru itunes.  now if i reboot & run the windows 7 operating system w/itunes that has backed my ipod before & synced a few times as well, but not the o.g. op system used from the beginning (the very initial set up done on the ipod) it works fine, but DOES give me the warning "updating to 5.0 willdelete some of your apps & media, including ...  ....will only preserve contacts, calenders," ....etc.
MY HUGE CONCERN IS if i do hit update & go through w/it, & not having been able to sync it to the one normally used to sync my ipod, will that back up i made be able to restore my game seetings, GAME SAVES, & data achievement type information....?
please, i'm very hesitant to go through w/it, so if you can please help me out here & let me know asap.....i canimagine you're all busy busy, so  i thank you for your time here w/this
    thank you

Not that hard. One the computer you are using do the following:
    - Transfer iTunes purchases.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
    - Transfer other music using a third-party program like one of those discussed here.
    Copy music
    - If you have synced photos you need a paid program like TouchCopy or PhoneView
    - When all the media in on the computer, connect the iPod to the computer and make a backup by right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up
    - Restore the iPod from that backup.
That computer is now your syncing computer. Note that the iPod backup that iTunes makes does not included synced media like apps or music.

  • Using Pro/E on a Mac using VMWare Fusion or BootCamp

    Hi
    I have a MacBook Pro:
    Processor:2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory: 4 GB 1067 Mhz DDR3
And recently for uni I have had to find a way to get Pro Engineer, a CAD program, running on my Mac. My solution was to buy VMWare Fusion and instal Windows 7 on my Mac so I could then run the CAD program. Once I got that done windows was running well however once I got Pro Engineer installed it was incredibly slow and pretty much unusable.
My question is has anyone got any experience with running this program on a similar machine and can help me solve this problem so I can run the program? Should I use bootcamp instead of VMWare? Would it make a difference?
    Thanks

Yes, I would definitely recommend setting up BootCamp for this - it's relatively painless. (It can create a new partition in the unused space on your OS X disk without erasing the disk.) The BootCamp Assistant has detailed instructions on how to go about setting up a partition and installing Windows on it, but the gist of it is that you have the BootCamp Assistant create a partition for you, then you boot from your Windows install disc and install Windows on that partition. When you've booted into Windows for the first time, pop in your OS 10.6 install disc, and it will install Apple's hardware drivers and utilities for Windows. If you got 10.6 shortly after it came out, the drivers will be version 3.0 for Windows Vista - you'll need to download version BootCamp 3.1 from the Apple support site to ensure full support for Windows 7. (If you have a newer copy of 10.6, it might have the new drivers already - I don't know, as I have an older one.)
I would, however, also recommend keeping VMWare Fusion (assuming you've already paid for it). Once Windows is set up in BootCamp, you can go into Fusion and create a virtual machine that's mapped to it (so you can also use your BootCamp installation as a virtual machine in your Mac if you don't need the full performance of booting into it natively). It should be fairly obvious how to do that - it will probably prompt you automatically. The virtualization also allows for as many different machines with as many OS's as you want - I'm running every version of Windows I've ever had in Parallels, plus a number of free OS's I'm trying out (BSD, Linux, Solaris). In short, it's a good thing to have.

  • Can I use a NTFS HD in Mac Pro for Bootcamp/Parallels?

    Hi,
I'm a long time PC user who has just recently bought a Mac Pro.
I have a HD in my old PC (74GB WD Raptor) that I would like to install in my Mac Pro, with the intention of using this drive as a Bootcamp partition. The HD is formatted but in NTFS.
If I install this HD in my Mac Pro will it recognise it? Will I be able to install Bootcamp & Windows XP on it? Or will I have to convert the HD to FAT32 (where I think the max partition size is 32GB)?
Also, If using Parrallels, is there any advantage in using a Bootcamp installation of Windows, or should I just forget about Bootcamp?
    Cheers,
    Simon

Once you create the partition using Boot camp you can then Follow the steps to get to the Windows partition and format the partition either way.
From page 12 of the Boot Camp Installation Guide:
"NFTS provides better reliability and security, but you will not be able to save files to the Windows volume from OS X.
FAT provides better compatibility allowing you to read and write files on the Windows volume from OS X. This option is available only if the Windows partition you created is 32GB or smaller."

My thuderbolt display is 3 weeks old which I'm using as display for my mac mini. I no longer get the display on but can hear the sound. Please suggest.

Make sure the mini-displayport/TB plug is fully seated.  It may look fully plugged in but isn't.
Make sure the Displays system preferences has an Arrangement tab.  No Arrangement means the monitor is not being detected.
    Do a smc reset.
If none of this works I suggest you take it back to apple (along with your mini).

why are my movies not showing on my Mac Book, which is the computer that I used to purchase the movie, but showing on my IMAC at home...I am currently deployed so this ***** a bit. Also how do I keep this incedent from happending in the future?

No, this is not the case. I know where i purchased the movie and I also know movies cant be added to the cloud such as music, TV shows can.  The instance happened during the dowload. I think that depending which computer is up and running and the bandwith allocated on either network, which ever computer that finishes first is the one that gets the movie. Just a thought. So next time I will ensure my IMAC is not running. I think that fixes it.
    Thanks

I want to use microsoft office on my mac. I need it to run on windows platform. Which is better: boot camp or parallels 7 ?

    Welcome to Apple Communities
You can install Office for Mac. If you don't want it, Boot Camp uses all the hardware, so it has the best performance for Windows, and Parallels allows you to run Windows in Mac without reboot and without Boot Camp. To use only this, download Parallels

  • Which graphics card will my MBP be using in bootcamp?

Hey guys I'm considering installing bootcamp on my MBP. It has Intel HD4000 and Nvidia gt 650m. I was wondering which graphics card it would be using in bootcamp. THanks

Windows will only use your dedicated graphic card, in this case, the NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M, because the integrated graphic card can't be used (there are problems with the GPU switch in Windows).
After installing Windows, install the most recent driver for your GPU from the NVIDIA site > http://www.nvidia.com
