Using a Canon Scanner in Panther

I made the System 9 to 10.3 upgrade this weekend and have almost everything up and working or figured out.
My Canoscan N650U is still a mystery. I downloaded the drivers from Canon and ran the installer. I had expected that the scanner would show up in "Image Capture". Alas it tells me I have no input device installed (although I am on the scanner tab in Image Capture). I did run teh repair permissions utility, but nothing changed.
System profiler shows the presence of a Canon scanner on the USB.
How do I get the scanner to scan?
I think I can still run the Canon toolkit in Classic, but I was expecting to be able to work with the scanner in 10.
Any help welcomed

To add a little more to John's responce.
I have found that If your Scanner worked with 9 That most times all of the utilitys and Insallation and setup for OS9 do not transfer to 10, unless the Installer places a Set-up and Utility folder in OSX.
Many times, and bear in mind each Scanner can be a little different. You can do a couple of different things, You can either go to the Scanner Manufactures site and search for the Insallation and set-up for OSX and when it downloads the folder or folders you have to manually drag and drop them to the Applications folder, then open that folder and then double click to open them in OSX.
Remember Applications...NOT OS9 Applications.
This will sometimes do it, more often than not.
The other way is to close OS9 and try to use the Insallation CD and see if it will download to OSX, some will some won't. This should give you some Idea's
Oh one other thing some Scanners only offer software for OS9 on there Install cd's and you may have to look for 3rd party software for your scanner.... Don

  • Maverick won't let me use my Canon scanner anymore

After installing Maverick on my iMac my Canon scanner software will not work. I cannot add a scanner to my printer preferences or find an app that works. It seems a lot of items no longer work for ome reason.

I have a Canoscan 8800F. The version of Navigator EX 1.0 I have been using very successfully up to now just crashes as soon as I open it. I have tried downloading a new driver from the Canon website but it does not seem to go anywhere. If I try to use Image Capture it just opens up with no printers or scanner selected and no means to add them, just a blank page.

  • How do I import images from a Canon scanner on Photo Elements 12 using a Mac

    Hi
I have purchase a new Mac with the 10.9 version and I am using Photo Elements 12.  I am trying to import images from my CanoScan 9000f scanner but I can't see the scanner in the Organizer, Files, Get Photos and Videos, there is no Scanner option.  But I can use my scanner using the Canon Sofware for the scanner.  Can you tell me what I have to do to be able to use my scanner directly on adobe Elements 12 ?
    Simon

You do not use the 'Import' function under the File Menu to import P2 card content because the video content is still in its native form. For example, my Panasonic HPX 171 produces .MXF video files (amongst all the other files and folders within the overall heirarchy).
In order to access the copied P2 information you have to Log & Transfer it, as if it were a camera plugged into the computer. This process then converts the MXF P2 files into a Quicktime format that the Final Cut application can read and work with.
Take note that when archiving a P2 card as you did it is imperative that ALL the other files and folders are copied and saved. In other words, the entire 'CONTENTS' folder. It is this 'CONTENTS' folder that you navigate to within Log & Transfer when you want to import to FCP.

  • I have an iMac running Mavericks would like to  connect/use my Canon CanonScan 8600F scanner or purchase another scanner

I just recently upgraded my Intel iMac to Mavericks and can no longer use my Canon CanonScan 8600F scanner.  What can I do to enable this device with my iMac?  Or, should I consider purchasing another compatible scanner?

I went to the site and at the bottom of the screen that shows my scanner there is nothing listed for any software as their system "sensed" that I had Mavericks installed.  I'll plan on calling their support line on Monday but, I'm not all that positive that there will be a good answer.  Thanks anyway . .

  • Can i use a canon like 30 scanner with yosemite ?

can i use a canon lide 30 scanner with yosemite ? i cannot load any drivers

    MissBea,
You can probably use your Canon printer with your HP notebook.
When connecting an HP printer to the computer, the printer works best when the printer software for that printer is downloaded and installed on the computer.
I would suggest that you need to do the same for the cannon printer, that is, you should download and install the driver (software) onto the computer.   After you install the driver, and connect the printer using whatever means you have (wireless, USB, Ethernet), you should be able to control the printer from the computer.
Instead of installing HP printer software, you will need to install the printer software for your cannon printer.

I am using a Canon 640 printer and my MPNavigator will not remain open.  It pops open then quickly closes.  I've used it for several years but it just started doing this.  What can I do to fix this problem?

I had a similar problem with a Canon MP800R under Mac OS X 10.9.2 Mavericks.
In my case, the MP Navigator app in the dock was linking to the wrong file.
It linked to Applications > MP Navigator 2.1.app > Contents > Resources > MP Navigator.app, but it should link to the "main" app, probably under Applications > MP Navigator 2.1.app.
After pulling the correct MP Navigator app file to the dock, I can start MP Navigator again by clicking on it in the dock. However, when clicking on it, a second MP Navigator icon will show up in the dock and stay there until the app is closed. By the way, the MP800R scanner also works (although officially not supported by Canon).

  • I updated to Photoshop CC 2014 and now it won't recognize my Canon Scanner LiDE 210.

I updated to Photoshop CC 2014 and now it won't recognize my Canon Scanner LiDE 210.
Is there a fix for this? It worked with CS6 and CC just fine.

Did you turn off the "show transform controls" option in the move tool?
It sounds like you were using that previously.
And you can always transform by using the Free Transform command (command/control T).

  • Photoshop CS3 wont recognise my Canon scanner

    Hi
Updated to CS3 and my canon scanner wont get recognised. I have a Power PC G5 Mac and did a forum search but everything seems to be about intel macs.
    Can someone please help me?
    Cheers

Yes i did all that. I found this and followed:
"1. Use the "Deldrv" program to remove previously unsuccessfully installed driver(s). The "Deldrv" uninstaller can be found on the Canon website at the bottom of the Canon scanner driver pop up window that you access to get the drivers for your scanner.
    2. Use the "Find?" under the File menu (command-F) or use Spotlight (command spacebar) to find the folder "CFMSupport". Select this folder (don't open it), and use the 'Get info' command in the File menu (command-I) to open information about the Ownership and Permissions of the folder. Click on the arrow beside 'Ownership and Permissions' so it points downwards, then click on the arrow beside 'Details' so you can see the details. Click on the padlock icon so it is unlocked. Then set owner to your user name, set the Group to admin, and set access for all users to Read & Write.
    3. Reinstall the CanoScan Toolbox first, then the scanner drivers from the Canon website or your CD, restart your computer."
Im gonna call Canon. If nothing, apart from vuescan, any free applications I can download?

  • Canon scanner not recognised after Mac wakes up.

    Hi
I have been using a Canon LIDE 60 scanner since I bought my eMac 4 or so years ago. It's always worked fine.
But since upgrading to Leopard a few months ago I've been having trouble with it.
What happens is that after the Mac goes into deep sleep mode (it's set to have the hard drive sleep too) and the scanner is not recognised after the computer wakes up.
I get an error message when I open up a TWAIN program (CanoScan Toolbox or Image Capture) saying that there is no scanner available.
Sometimes, usually actually, if I disconnect the USB cable and then re-attach it the scanner becomes available again. But sometimes not.
I have what I believe to be the most recent driver for this scanner, dl'd recently from Canon's web site. First I uninstalled the old driver and then restaterd my eMac before installing the new driver.
I'm using whatever version of Image Capture came with Mac OS and I'm using CanoScan Toolbox version 4.9.3.4 (version 5.0 does not work at all).
Any way to get this to stop happening?

    Bump

  • Canon Scanner 9950f

Hi, Just moved to macbook pro 2011 10.6 version (from pc world) and unable to
use canon scanner 9950f--i can see the toolbox but when i hit scan i get no
driver message---checked canon and no driver available--has anyone been
able to use this scanner in snow leopard macbook pro
    thanks,  sandy

OK,  I see that Canon does not support Lion.  I bought a CanoScan 9950 and want to have it recognized and run VueScan.  So far I cannot get the scanner recognized in About the Mac nor in VueScan.  I downloaded drivers from Canon but it seems from the conversation they don't work with Lion.  So what is a boy supposed to do?  Is there a way to get the scanner recognized and run with VueScan or am I just SOL?  Surely there has to be a fix.
In addition I have a Canoscan FS2710 which I have not been able to use for ages.

  • Canon Scanner LIDE 210

I have been using a Canon  LIDE 210 scanner with no trouble for some time.  Now sometimes the scanner light does not light up and I get several dark, or black, pages in my scans. I have re installed the software but it still happens
If I scan 5 or 6 pages I might get 2 good ones and the others black.
Scanner is about 4 years old.  Do I need a new scanner ?

This topic is far from "Windows 7 Hardware Compatibility " topic, because your scanner has worked for some time.
I am afraid the you have reached the end of life of your scanner and new scanner is an only option here. Hope this statement is not true one.

  • 10.6.7 : canon scanner stops working

    Hi,
I updated to 10.6.7 and since then my MP750 canon scanner isn't recognized any more. I tried to reinstall the scanner driver downloaded from canon website but with no luck... This worked for the 10.6.5 -> 10.6.6 transition.
Printing on this multifunction is working though...
The only workaround I found is to use ... windows XP in virtualbox

Update : re-installing the file called "mp750osxsd12131ej7.dmg" solved my issue.
    Cheers.

  • Need to get Canon Scanner Lide210 to be in scanner list in PSE10 for Mac

I have just upgraded from PSE9-Mac to PSE10-Mac on MacOS 10.7.2.  I have a CanoScan Lide210 and have enjoyed using the import feature in PSE9 and my Canon scanner for importing images.  I recall it being a process for the scanner to be placed in the list when installing PSE9, but can't seem to find where this process occurs.  I despise using the clunky scanning interface from Canon, and have really enjoyed the feature in PSE9.  I upgraded because I was having some lock-up issues during import and figured a newer version might help.  Thanks!

Thanks..I have copied over and posted where you led me.  I just spent a lot of time with Nidhaal from Chat at Adobe and he was unable to help.  Though I can now see my scanner in the drop-down list, it will not open a preview or scan window in PSE10.  He has recommended using PhotoBooth or other scanning interfaces to capture, then import and edit within PSE10.  I am frustrated by the extra, clumsy steps to do something I have been doing for thousands of photos over the past couple of years.  I, at least, want to create a process that is reasonably tried-and-true from other MacOS/PSE users.  I appreciate the direction you've given me.

  • Canon Scanner 8400f

I have tried using this scanner with Photoshop and it can recognize the scanner and it can scan. However, the picture shows up but has a "stripe" of colors...green, blue and red down the whole picture. I've tried reinstalling the driver...another scanner program listed on another forum, calibrating the scanner...and still the stripes...What next?

I had a similar problem after receiving our new iMac iSight. The iMac would not sleep. If I attempted to put it to sleep, it would instantly wake without any provocation.
I traced the problem to our Canon scanner. It only uses bus power from the 2.0 USB port and when it is connected, you can hear it power up after the iMac displays the current user's desktop.
The temporary fix was just to disconnect from the USB hub until it is needed, then connecting only while it is being used. Until Canon comes out with new drivers, this seems to be the solution.
