Using a Capture card with QuickTime Pro

I plan on installing a video capture card (that I haven't used in years) into a Windows Vista computer (which I'm not even sure is compatible with my card) and I want to know if QuickTime Pro can recognize the capture card and record movies that way, rather than via firewire.
I'm looking to record interviews straight into a computer to avoid the "log and capture" step in my usual process.
I've got all the equipment to do it the usual way, but we're stepping up our production timeline at our office and I'm looking to shave off a good four hours of capture time.
I know there are better options out there, but those are in the future (i.e. another budget year) and I'm looking to utilize the resources I've got now. So basically, I've rambled on when my original question remains quite succinctly phrased at the top of this post: "I want to know if QuickTime Pro can recognize the capture card and record movies that way."
P.S. I'm currently awaiting a response from the manufacturers of the card as to whether or not the Vista computer will work with the card.

Excuse me, I forgot: several miniDV cassettes from two different cameras. The camera I use for capturing is yet another (Medion MD 9090) camera.
With iMovie there is no problem to capture but I have learned this is not the right way.
With QuickTime Pro there is also no problem, so I use it now.

How do I Capture Streaming video with Quicktime Pro?

In Lamonts post about converting video for the iPod, it was pointed out that one can capture streaming video (Steve Jobs Keynote speech for instance), with Quicktime Pro. I have QT7.04 Pro, but don't know how to do this simple thing. Can someone please tell me?

it's possible. i did it myself, after a few tryouts.
i still can't get the best result, but i got something.
first of all you have to save the streaming file(thru the save as qt movie, from CTRL-click). when you get a stream it gets cached on your computer. you might playback it even when offline. so if all that you need is a simple playback, that's ok. but it's a cache, sometime the system will erase it from your HD.
if you want to keep it as a qt file(or any other format) thats this is the deal. when you save the stream file, it saves a reference file(4kb) that reads the cache. you cannot recover them from the cache, not even by changing the termination, because the qt player won't recognize the .qtch files transformed into .mov.
open the file(reference you saved before), choose export from the file menu, and choose the setting that you want. i still don't get a good quality(i know it's incredible that a stream file has a better quality...) and i still have to export the video separated from the audio. but if you need only the moving image to edit a homevideo, and your only source is a stream, it's a start.
so if anyone feel like growing the knowledge tree, let's go ahead.

Your question doesn't make much sense.
What type of Mac Pro do you have? Is it the new black cylinder or the old style silver tower?
Firewire is built-in to the old models & the new Mac Pros can use Thunderbolt to Firewire converters to capture from Firewire sources.

Many older cameras used Firewire for capturing, but that has been replaced by other connection types. What are you trying to capture from?

your new lion-machine should have quicktime 7, too. if it doesn't, and if it doesn't show up after you migrated your stuff from you old machine you can always reinstall it from the logic dvd's, it's part of logic. my recommendation is to always use quicktime 7, since it's got many features that are absent in quicktime x. quicktime x is nothing but a polished video player. in quicktime 7 (pro, comes with logic) you can even do edits and paste your music onto video files. i use it all the time, especially since logic 64bit doesn't export to video anymore.

So.. You need to contact the carrier for the iPhone's original sim card, and request they unlock it. The carrier is the only one that can unlock the sim of the iPhone.

In LabVIEW 6.1 I found some examples they use those sound VIs. They are located in \examples\sound folder. Those examples should give you a good overview how to use the VIs.

I cannot use my pci5112 card with LV ver. 6.0

I'am trying to use my pci5112 card with LV 6.0 using the DAQ solutions. I get a message saying that I have not configured any DAQ devices. When I launch MAX I see the card there and the test panels are ok.
I have the niscope1.6 driver installed.
Any ideas?

The PCI-5112 can only be programmed with NI-Scope. That's why the PCI-5112 does not work with the DAQ Solution Wizard.
Fortunately, there are lots of good examples for NI-Scope in LabVIEW. You can find these in the C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 6.0\examples\instr\niScope directory. I would recommend starting with the Configured Acquisition example and then going from there depending on the needs of your application.

Use M-Series cards with DAQmx in Matlab!

For all people wanting to use their M-Series cards (and/or NI_CAQmx drivers) with Matlab.

Basic introduction into importing DAQmx into Matlab. Simple AI (analog input), advanced AI (synchronous)
and simple AO solutions are displayed with Matlab source code.
Motivation:
There's probably little disagreement that the new M-Series cards are superior to the old E-Series cards.
However, Matlab does (as of February 2005) not support either directly.
By buying the Data Acquisition Toolbox you can access most of the E-Series' functions from within Matlab.
But this will not help you with your new M-Series card! But it is possible to use M-Series cards with Matlab.
First step
Start by loading the NI dll:
funclist = loadlibrary('nicaiu.dll','nidaqmx.h','alias','myni')
(You can choose any alias as long as it is a legal variable name.)
If your version of Matlab is too old to provide the "loadlibrary" function directly, download it here:

After importing, you see the list of available functions.
You can also display them by

That's basically it. By using the National Instruments NI-DAQmx C Reference manual and libfunctionsview('myni')
you have access to those functions. One special thing you need to keep in mind is the fact that pointers
work differently in Matlab than in C. This problem can be solved by using the Matlab function "libpointer".
Sometimes Matlab does not require a pointer when C would. But I found that it does not hurt to
specify a pointer in this case. Whether Matlab expects a pointer can be seen in the output
created by libfunctionsview('myni')
The general syntax for calling DAQmx functions is:
[outputarguments]=calllib(alias,NIDAQmx_functionname,inputarguments)

Help! I cannot play VCD with QuickTime Pro.

I tried to open a .DAT file with QuickTime Pro which alerted me with the following message:
QuickTime cannot open the file AVESQ04.DAT it is not a file that Qucik Time understands (-2048).
However, I read the Help in apple.com, they said it should work. What did I do wrongly???

I have found that if you copy the DAT files to your hard drive, and then change the "DAT" to "MPG" in the file name that Quicktime will play them.
It's been a while, so if I am wrong and "MPG" doesn't work, try "MOV" instead.
I'm pretty sure it was MPG though.
I remember I did this a long time ago, and it worked great.
