Using a Count field in a formula

Post Author: sjjustina
CA Forum: Formula
I'm trying to get an average. I have a Count summary and a formula that totals the lengths. How do I make a formula that divides the formula by the Count field?
Thanks in advance,Sarah

Do have a sample we can look at.  When you say Count Summary, do you mean a running total that is counting your fields ?  {@total_Length} / {#Count}  of course this would also depend on where you are trying to generate this average.  Is it at a group level, a detail level, a page level, report level ????

  • How can i use a blob field in a formula field object

    Hi ,
    We are using Crystal Report Server XI R2.  i have a field "ANSWER" in my datasource which stores value 1 or 0.
    And i have table to store two images as blob fields are "EVALTICKIMAGE" and "EVALCROSSIMAGE".
    Now i need to show an image in my report for the field "ANSWER" instead of 0 or 1.
    So i written a formula to achieve this. my formula text is follows:-
      oFormulaField.Text = @"if {CSP_PROCESS_REPORT.ANSWER} = ""1"" then {EVALIMAGE.EVALTICKIMAGE} else {EVALIMAGE.EVALCROSSIMAGE} ";
    but this does not works for me. i recieve an error "A blob field cannot be used in a formula".
    is there any other way to show images based on a condition.
    or is that possible to use blob fields formulafield, kindly help me.
    Thanks,
    Padmanaban V

    You can use conditional suppression instead.
    Place both image fields on the report. Right click the 1st image field (EVALIMAGE.EVALTICKIMAGE) and choose Format Graphic and make sure the Format Editor is on the Common Tab.
    Click the x-2 button across from Suppress and enter the following formula:
    IF({CSP_PROCESS_REPORT.ANSWER} = 1 THEN FALSE ELSE TRUE
    For EVALIMAGE.EVALCROSSIMAGE, do the same thing except change the formula to:
    IF({CSP_PROCESS_REPORT.ANSWER} = 0 THEN FALSE ELSE TRUE
    Once that's done, you can set one image directly on top of the other.

  • How to use dynamic column fields in formulas

    Hi,
    we changed from CR 8.5 to CR XI R2.
    Many of our reports use dynamic queries with different count of columns.
    These reports are designed for the maximum count of columns.
    This works fine with CR 8.5 but with CR XI R2 it seems to be that if one of these columns is missing i get an error in all formulas using this missing columns.
    How can i use or check this columns in formulas?
    regards
    Michael

    Could it be because of null values?  Try File -> Report Options and then check the box next to convert null values to default values and see it that helps or you can go into the formulae and choose Default Values for Nulls.  Either of these options should plug a zero if the values happen to be nulls.

  • Can You Use A Report Field Value In A Hyperlink?

    <p>I have a report field that I would like to be a link to another application. Making a report field a hyperlink to a web page was nice and simple.  However, I was expecting to be able to use the value of the field in the hyperlink something like...</p><p><a href="http://mywebsite/controller?action=servlets.ReportAlertDetailListAction&key={AlertSearch.ALERT_KEY">http://mywebsite/controller?action=servlets.ReportAlertDetailListAction&key={AlertSearch.ALERT_KEY</a>}</p><p>...where AlertSearch is the table name and ALERT_KEY is the field name.  Is there a way to use a report field in a hyperlink?  Would using a formula allow it to be dynamic?  The goal is to have each row of the report link to a URL with a different parameter.  I can see eventually redoing it as a drill down feature but the detail I need already exists in a separate application.</p><p>Thanks,</p><p>Ed</p>

    Hi Ed.
    I believe the conditional formula that you would use (don't just type in the text box - press the button for the formula first).
    "[http://mywebsite/controller?action=servlets.ReportAlertDetailListAction&key | http://mywebsite/controller?action=servlets.ReportAlertDetailListAction&key]=" + {AlertSearch.ALERT_KEY}
    The key is to use the conditional formula feature of the hyperlink feature.Â
    Enjoy!Â

  • How to use a parameter field value as a substring in a "like" statement?

    Hi all,
    I'm trying to use a parameter field in a Record selection formula where the parameter field value would be a substring of the data stored in the field.
    My parameter field (SlctResearcher) is constructed as follows:
    Type: string
    List of Values: static
    Value Field: (Reports) RptAuthors
    (in Value Options) Allow custom values?: True
    {Reports.PubDate} in DateTime (2009, 04, 01, 00, 00, 00) to DateTime (2010, 03, 31, 23, 59, 59) and
    {Reports.RptAuthors} like "*{?SlctResearcher}*"
    When I hit F5 to generate the data, I get no results (and the parameter prompt field does not even come up...)
    If I modify the formula to put a hard-coded string, like
    "*Jones*"
    after the 'like', I get results (all the reports where "Jones" is a substring in the RptAuthors string.) If I modify the formula to just use the parameter field without the quotes/stars like:
    {Reports.PubDate} in DateTime (2009, 04, 01, 00, 00, 00) to DateTime (2010, 03, 31, 23, 59, 59) and
    {Reports.RptAuthors} like {?SlctResearcher}
    I do get the parameter prompt field, but still no results even if I put in a valid substring value (since it is not searching for a substring anymore...)
    How can I do this?
    Thanks,
    Will

    1st thing... Make a copy of your report before doing anything!!!
    To use a SQL Command, you'll want to open the Database Expert and look at the Current Connections. Expand the data source and the 1st option you see is the Add Command option.
    To find the SQL That CR is currently using, choose Database from the menu bar and select Show SQL Query...
    You can copy this and paste it directly into the command window. (If you you can write your own SQL you don't need copy CR's, it's just an option.)
    You'll also want to take not of any parameters that you have, you'll need to add them the the Parameter List of the command as well... be sure to spell them EXACTLY as they are in the design pane.
    Anyway, once the SQL statement is in the Command window you'll be able to alter the WHERE clause to use the wild cards.
    For future reference... What type of database are you reporting against???

    If I am missing what you are asking then please provide instructions as to how to find this error information. You are posting the error message for the exception but not printing the stack trace.
    Far as I can tell you are printing more information with each exception (for example "Exception creating Users table") but you did not post what that was, that info would localize the problem.
    As a guess the problem is when you extract the fields via the query. You are using named values rather than indexes and you use "select *" rather than specifically naming the columns. Some databases (for example Oracle), require that using names must be in exactly the same order as the query returns them. You have no idea what that order is because you use "select *"
    Finally it would be a LOT easier if you wrote classes that did nothing but the database operations. NO GUI CODE. You then test that code to make sure it works. Once that code works then you write gui code which uses those classes. Besides making it easier to understand you are also more likely to get assistance since there is less code to look at.

    Here's from one of those 10s of books.
    Quoted from JDBC 3.0 by Bernard Van Haecke:
    Stored procedures can return multiple result types because they can be composed of SQL statements that return diverse result types: resultsets and update counts (this includes special error codes).
    Now this doesn't sound very satisfactory. So I use Sybase since I don't have any other database at the moment, and write a simple stored procedure.
    CREATE proc testproc AS
    BEGIN
    -- My return code
    return 7
    END
    goThen a sample patchy buggy code to play around:
    import java.sql.*;
    public class ProcTesting {
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            String connUrl          = "jdbc:sybase:Tds:myserver:5150/dbinst";
            String userName         = "username";
            String password         = "password";
            Connection con          = null;
            CallableStatement stmt  = null;
            ResultSet rs            = null;
            String sql = "{? = call testproc}";
            try {
                Class.forName("com.sybase.jdbc2.jdbc.SybDriver").newInstance();
                con     = DriverManager.getConnection(connUrl, userName, password);
                stmt    = con.prepareCall(sql);
                stmt.registerOutParameter(1, Types.INTEGER);
                stmt.execute();
                System.out.println(stmt.getInt(1));
            } catch(Exception e) {
                e.printStackTrace();
            } finally {
                closeAll(con, stmt);
        public static void closeAll(Connection con, Statement stmt) {
            try {
                con.close();
            } catch(Exception e) {  }
            try {
                stmt.close();
            } catch(Exception e) {  }
    }Followed by:
    javac ProcTesting.java
    java -cp "%CLASSPATH%;C:\jarutils\jconn2.jar" ProcTesting
    Output:
    7
    Didn't you know this could be done?

  • How to count rows in a group =Count(Fields!FirstName.Value,"GroupByInitial")

    I have a tablix grouped on column a and detailed on column b.
    I am trying to count the rows in 3 separate ways.
    CountDistinct(Fields!A.Value) =work perfectly on group column
    CountDistinct(Fields!B.Value) = work perfectly on the detail column
    But now I was
    Count(Fields!A.Value) = on the group column but I get all the detailed count 13  instead of just the group count of 4.

    Hi Giss68,
    Based on my understanding, you want to calculate the count of the group fields, right?
    In your scenario, if you use Count(Fields!A.Value), the expression returns a count of specified values evaluated in the dataset scope. So it’s expected that you get count of all Fields!A.Value instead of grouped fields. Since you want to calculate the count
    of grouped column fields, you should use CountDistinct() function.
    As we tested in our environment, we specify the expression with CountDistinct() function, we can get expected result.

    hello
    please help me out!!!!!! am trying to retrive data (ID) which was updated before in this program. now am getting error:COUNT field incorrect. and can it be displayed by using JOptionPane?

    Thanks for your reply.Notice the corrected spelling of three of the four words in the sentence (you could have misspelled all of them by using "4" instead of "for") and the use of only one period/fullstop at the end of the sentence.
    In reply to your original question, the column numbers in JDBC start at 1, not at 0. So this line of code is the problem:
    System.out.println(rs.getString(0));It should read:
    System.out.println(rs.getString(1));And, being an autogenerated column, isn't it a numeric value? Do you really want to read it as a String?

  • COUNT field incorrect or syntax error

    hi,
    PreparedStatement stmt = con.prepareStatement("Insert into uQuestions values(?,?)");
    stmt.setInt(1,2);
    //stmt.setString(2,s.trim());
    Reader rd=new StringReader(s.trim());

    System.out.println( stmt.executeUpdate() );
    stmt.close();Result
    java.sql.SQLException: [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]COUNT field incorrect or syntax error
    In place of setCharacterStream If I use stmt.setString(2,s.trim()) then it works fine.
    Whats the problem there....

    I am using Java 6 already.That's what I said in my last post.
    setClob() and setCharacterStream() are used for
    NVARCHAR and NTEXT tyesLike I said, the API talks about using setCharacterStream for LONGVARCHAR types, are NVARCHAR and NTEXT LONGVARCHAR types?

    This only happens for audit db and not for cms db. May I know what is the reason for this and how to resolve it?

    I am using Java 6 already.That's what I said in my last post.
    setClob() and setCharacterStream() are used for
    NVARCHAR and NTEXT tyesLike I said, the API talks about using setCharacterStream for LONGVARCHAR types, are NVARCHAR and NTEXT LONGVARCHAR types?

  • Numeric Counter Field

    How can I create a field so that when a user opens a form a counter is displayed. For instance, the fist time I opened the form a rea-only field displays "1" and when the user exits out and opens the form again a "2" is displayed in that field. I'm looking into either a script that can genarate this or a script that can generate a number, code or serial number that's easy to track when an user submits the same form several times.
    Any and all guidance is much appreciated!
    Omar

    There are a few things to decide before implementing such a counter. It is mainly the scope and uniqueness of the numbers.
    Scope means whether the counter should be valid for the file, for the computer, or for the world. Also, does the counter need to be consecutive, or just unique.
    Scope for the world is easy to decide about what has to be done. If the counter must be valid for the world, it has the be centrally managed, which means you will need a server support, and you will also need a front end which calls for the unique number, which is then either pre-filled on the server, or sent to the form and filled in client-side.
    If the scope has to be for the file, it is also easy. In this case, you will have the counter field, and every time you open the file, you read out the value of the counter field, and increment it. All you have to do is then to not forget to save the file…
    If the scope is the machine, you may work with so-called persistent global variables. However, you have to be aware that Adobe has been butchering this very useful concept, and it may no longer work properly with the newest Acrobat/Reader versions.
    Hope this can help.

  • Significance of Counter field in CATsDB Table

    Dear All,
    What is the significance of OUNTER Field in CATSDB Table?
    Regards,
    Satya.

    Yeah ...
    Absolutely correct.
    Please go through my requirement.
    I need to Update CATSDB table manually.
    Say If an Employee enters the leave data like CL, SL etc., through Portal, that is coming into R/3 and my IT2001 is getting updated.
    But when the Same employee logs in using his Cats Id into CATS for time sheet entries, then those booked as well as approved days are not getting reflected and allowing the user to enter the data. After that it is throwing the error.
    My Requirement is Those records should get displayed in Cat2 T-code defaultly. So, I need to update my CATSDB table manually.
    So, as COUNTER Field is updated by the System itself, I want to know its significance. and please let me know how to do this???
    Regards,
    Satya

  • Using a calculated field

    Hi
    I am using a calculated field and show it in the “view”. I can’t change it without removing all the calculated fields shown in the “view”, only removing them all I can do it and afterwards I have to put them all back
    This is problem?
    Alexandre

    When you go to Report | Group Sort Expert | then choose Bottom N for the sort you only have four "based on" to choose from and they are ALL simple SUMs (summary fields).
    No running totals are available for TopN or BottomN due to the evaluation time of running totals.  Your formula (@OEE %) isn't available as it utilizes the {Total QTY %} formula and it utilizes group sums.
    Basically, as I said before, one may ONLY do TOP or Bottom N's on simple sums (summaries) of values that exist in the detail section or are calculated WITHIN the detail section.  So for example, if you have a ITEM COST field and a ITEM TRANSPORTATION COST field and are grouping on customer and you want your top ten customers for total cost you can do a formula (IN THE DETAIL SECTION) that adds the ITEM COST and the ITEM TRANSPORTATION COST then you can insert a summary on that formula for the Customer group footer....then you can do a TopN or BottomN on that summary value.
    But if you're calculating percentages you would have to grab totals from the report footer or group footers for the calculation to get the percentage.  The fact that this is being done eliminates that value from the list available in TopN or BottomN.
    Again, the only other possible method would be to write a stored procedure that pulls the values in (including percentages) then report off the stored procedure.
