Using a different WIFI Internet Connection from Home

I have an Apple Mac Pro at home with a WIFI connection, which works very well.
When I took the machine to my father in law who also has a WIFI connection (but from a different company), I tried to connect my lap top to his server box without success. I am being asked for the key code written on his WIFI box. When I type it, it does not let me in...
What should I do? Help please.

Generally speaking, your bookmarks are private to your computer, and if you set up multiple Firefox profiles on your computer, to the one profile.
Your bookmarks might be available to you at another location if you used the Sync service. In order to connect a new computer to the Sync service when you aren't near your old computer, you need a recovery key. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/share-bookmarks-tabs-and-more-your-other-computers#w_what-if-im-not-near-my-first-computer
If you didn't use Sync or can't access your account, someone with access to your old computer could email you your bookmarks. Since there is a range of different ways to do that and the best choice might depend on what you can expect the person you ask to be able to do... could they start up Firefox in your profile and follow menu steps to export a file? Could they drill down into a hidden folder on the system, zip a file, and mail that to you? Etc.

  • Slow internet connect from home, nowhere else, and PC's are fine through home internet connection?

When I'm at my apartment with 18 mbps internet my MacBook Pro has absolutly no problems with the internet. When I come to my parents house to stay where they have 15 mbps internet my laptop is rediculously slow. I thought it was the fact that more people are connected but on every other device it works fine, my iPad and my parents PC's have no problem. I am at a complete loss I have tried to run a diagnostic multiple times and have done the DNS Servers 4.2.2.1. and 4.2.2.2 which helped slightly but there are points when the internet gives up, it just never loads. Does anyone have any suggestions?

  • WiFi Internet connectivity problems after upgrade to 10.8.4

After upgrading to MacOS 10.8.4 I am facing regular interruptions to my WiFi internet connectivity. Periodically the internet connectivity is lost and the only way to fix the problem is to turn WiFi off and on again. This happens frequently when I am downloading files at using big bandwidth (more than 1.5-2 MB/s). If I use assist me on the Network preferences tab, it displays an ISP error when the connectivity is down, however I am certain that I do nota have any kind of ISP or router issue since at the same time I have WiFi internet connectivity from my iPad mini, iPhone 4S and Samsung Galaxy S3. Therefore it should be a 10.8.4 issue

  • Want to have My iPod Touch to be connected to a WiFi while away From Home

While at Home I am connected to my WiFi through my computer system but when I am away from home there isn't very much WiFi Hot spots in my area except when I am in a Star bucks or in a business that says that they have "Free" WiFi. I have a few WiFi iPod Touch Apps that are able to locate Free WiFi Hot Spots but when I go and try to use them when I am away from home I am not able to use it at all.
Is there a way that I can have my iPod Touch to be set up where I can be connect to any WiFis when I am away from Home? or have my iPod Touch to be able to search for any WiFis in my area?
Note: I have a MobileMe Account and I have a email account with my local Isp which is a Pop account.

I'll add another positive review about the MiFi device and its use with a Touch. I've had this for about 2 months, and it works very well. And I'll disagree with the poster who said "get an iPhone".
The MiFi has several advantages over the iPhone -- First, it's a mobile hotspot that can provide WiFi for up to 5 devices simultaneously (the iPhone can't do that, even once AT&T enables tethering); Second, the MiFi allows use of a network other than AT&T (which many users may appreciate)...aside from Verizon, Sprint sells a version that works on its network; Finally, the price of the MiFi and its usage plan may well end up being less expensive than an iPhone.
It's not cheap, but then again, neither is an iPhone and its usage plan. I spend nearly $60/month on the expensive MiFi plan, but can switch down (and then back up) to the lower-priced $40/month plan if I don't need the full 5gb a month that the higher plan provides.
Sure, you don't get a telephone with the Touch + MiFi solution (although Skype works well if you add a microphone to your Touch), but not everyone wants/needs a phone...and for those who want primarily data/WiFi/Web, the MiFi with a Touch will give an iPhone a real run for its money.
I'll also add that the original poster may just need access to more hotspots - i.e., other than those that advertise "free" WiFi. If that's the case, she might consider something like a Boingo membership which will get her online in many places...including just about every McDonalds in the US.

  • WIFI, Internet Connections

Okay i fill like such a fool, but i really need sum help. I am currentlt trying to set up my wifi from home, but could you tell me everything i need to have and how to set it up.. I am currently on dsl internet connection, but i dont have a wireless router, is it still possible to setup a wifi connection from home? If so could you guys please give me some help and educate me alot on this!!! Thanks Anyone help please!!!!

Yes it is possible but you need to purchase a wireless router first.
The wireless router connects to your DSL modem and then you set up your wireless or Wi-Fi network. You want to use encryption along with password protecting your wireless network and the wireless router will have several options. There is what is called WEP encryption and WPA encryption with WPA being much more secure than WPA. The wireless router you purchase should have both options along with instructions for setting up your wireless network.
I use an Apple wireless router which is very easy to set up and is very small and is compatible with Macs and Windows PCs.

  • Used to be able to connect to home Wi-Fi network, but no more

Used to be able to connect to home Wi-Fi network, but all of the sudden my IPad has stopped connecting.  I have verified that the Wi-Fi network is operational (IPhone, smart TV, laptop) and also that the IPAD is operational (Wi-Fi hot spots).  I have tried forgetting the network and adding it back in - but IPAD just sits and spins.  Have also forgotten network and intentionally entered incorrect password, and I do receive an immediate reject so I know the IPAD is talking to the router.
    Any ideas?

iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4199
    Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
Change the channel on your wireless router. Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

  • Having problems sharing internet Connection from Macbook to Vonage Adapter

    Hello,
I just got my Vonage adaptor and I am trying to share the Internet connection from my Macbook Pro (10.7.3) to the Adaptor to use the Vonage service bc my router is downstairs.
I turned off my Firewall, hooked my Vonage adapter to the Macbook with the ethernet cable and then went to Sys Preferences > Sharing > Selected Internet Sharing > Share Connection from Wifi to computers using Ethernet, and it looks like everything is ok but when i try to use the phone which is connected to to Vonage Adapter, it says "Your Vonage device cannot connect to the internet, check to see if your high speed internet is down".
I went and looked at my Network preferences and it shows Ethernet connected which is the Vonage Adapter and gives the following:
    IP Address: 169.254.163.167
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0
Is there something Im doing wrong? Ive seen on several forums that its possible to do but having bad luck. Any help is appreciated.

All I know is that I got Ubuntu to share internet and offer IPs through DHCP by using Firestarter. I am very new to Solaris, however, and am looking forward to learning about it. I've just made it my regular desktop environment. Long as you can get Solaris to configure its network interface with DHCP after your Ubuntu is configured, you should be able to share to as many clients as you'd like. Fedora also works well for that, and in my opinion, it's a better Linux than Ubuntu, though Solaris remains a better Linux than Linux, right? Har.

  • I have an iPad mini - trying to set up a wifi internet connection on Windows 7 laptop.

Have a new iPad and need to still set it up.  Problem is that it needs to connect to a wifi internet connection which I have set up on my Win7 laptop.  The iPad mini sees the network but can't connect to it.........  What am I doint wrong?  I have set the network up via the adhoc network set up and have done everything as per the turorials I have seen, but it still won't to connect.  Is this possible and if so, how do I do it?  I have tried the ad-hoc network way and the iPad recognises it but can't connect to it.  THANKS A MIL

Windows 7 Home Basic does not support ad hoc or hosted network functionality (what Connectify and Virtual Router use). At a minimum you would need to upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium. Note the Applies to these editions of Windows 7 statement at the right in this article.
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Set-up-a-computer-to-computer-ad-hoc -network
Again using a broadband wireless (WiFi) router is the best way to go presuming its in your budget.

  • How to share internet connection from notebook to mobile phone with micro usb cord in Debian based OS? (reverse tethering)

I want to share internet connection from notebook to my mobile phone (Keon) with micro usb cord (because I don't have wifi). I found in Firefox OS (version: Boot2Gecko 1.1.1.0-prerelease) Settings only the possibility to share internet from mobile phone to PC. I use a Debian based OS: Knoppix. I tried to accomplish this with Networking Manager and I did a new wired connection via my phone with "Shared to other computers" IPv4 Settings and with FE:...:02 (usb0) MAC address. But on my phone there is not internet although the connecton between my notebook and phone is estableshed.

    Hi Pimpo,
Thank you for posting your question. I was trying to reproduce your the Shared network, and I would love to know what kind of network you used to connect. This is not possible as of yet and I will file a bug being able to do this, but to make sure I have the right steps on the bug can you confirm the set up of the shared network please?
Also this is currently not possible because the software does not know how to send network traffic over usb, assuming you do not have the ability to turn the computer into a wifi hot spot, which I would recommend instead...

  • Sony Vaio not recognising Wifi/Internet connections since System Refresh ... Help!

I'm using Windows 8.1 on a Sony Vaio SVE1512C6EW.  It was running really slow, so I did a System Refresh and deleted a few programmes. Now it is not recognising Wifi/Internet connections and Audio doesn't work.  I don't know if I deleted the driver or it was the refresh.  Please help!

    Hi nickisheps,
Thank you for visiting Sony Community!
Here in Sony Support USA for Vaio, we do not recommend System Refresh right away since your issue was slow performance. You could uninstall programs and check for viruses/malicious programs first, running Vaio or Windows update, etc. You are right about drivers. There is a possibility that some drivers and software are not properly installed or was deleted after the refresh. You may try this first: Go to Device manger -> Network adapter -> select the name of the adapter -> right click and select Uninstall (DO NOT DELETE). Restart the laptop. The default driver will be reinstalled. You may do the same process in Audio, just select Sound, video and game controllers. Check again if you the will connect to the internet.
If none of these work then you need to visit Sony's website (based on your location or from where you purchased the unit) and download the needed drivers.
Since your Vaio SVE1512C6EW is not a U.S. model and we have limited information about your unit and we do not have the drivers and software that support your computer. We kindly recommend visiting our Sony Global Web site for information on contacting the Sony Support Center in your region at http://www.sony.net/SonyInfo/Support/.
    Hope these help.
    Best regards,
    Vincent

  • WDS? Connect 'UFO' Airport EX to Linksys WAG354G WiFi Internet connection

Is this possible? My scenario is thus: I have a Linksys WAG354G connected to the Internet through ADSL (United Kingdom). This router is connected to the phone downstairs and works fine, sharing its internet connection with my Macs downstairs (wireless) without a hitch.
I have been given a UFO shaped Airport Extreme and I'm trying to use it in my office upstairs. I'd like it to use the Linksys's Internet connection, wirelessly, so that I can connect a PC to the Internet. I'm guessing this is WDS?
Can this be done and how? I've been trying to suss it out for the last couple of days and am going off my head working out how to do it!!!

No this can not be done.
The Airport Extreme will act as a wireless-to-wired bridge only when used in association with a base station on the following list:
    - an Airport Express
    - another Airport Extreme Base Station
    - a Linksys WRT54G or WRT54GS
    - a Belkin Belkin F5D7230-4 and F5D7231
    - one specific model from SMC
    - one specific model from Buffalo
    - BT HomeHub 2091 (?)
For wireless routers not on this short list - not possible.
In particular, it will not work with any WiFi routers from D-Link or Netgear.

  • IMac hogging the internet connection from PC

I have a serious issue with my iMac hogging the internet connection from my boyfriends PC. If I download he can't even look at a youtube video. Does anyone have a solution or an explanation?
    It's driving us both mad!

Hmm. Basically it sounds like when you connect you 'steal' the Internet connection and I can think of two ways that would happen. Open System Preferences and select the  Network tab. Now click on the advanced button then in the top tab click on TCP/IP and you'll something like this:
Note that in the graphic above, next to Configure IPv4 you see Using DHCP. I'm wondering if yours is set differently. For that matter, I'm wondering how his computer is set up too.
