Using a dongle with hotspots

Cna you use the dongle when out and about with hotspots? do you have to log in differently? i.e. other than email and password. Does a dongle help with the connection?

Yes you can use the dongle. All the dongle does is to provide a wireless connection to devices that do not have one. You will not have to log on differently and it will not give any additional help with the connection. It it sees the homehub that is broadcasting the BTWifi signal it will connect to it.

Is it possible to install an image via WDS to a tablet without an ethernet cable by using a USB>ethernet
    dongle?

    Hi Brandon Koz,
When you use the Windows system the hardware must compatible with Windows requirement, you can use the Windows Server Catalog to confirm whether your hardware meet the requirement,
the WDS minimum requirement about the WDS you can refer the following KB:

  • TS1398 Using a dongle with an ipad?

I am going to the Isle of Lewis where our house doesn't have internet and my phone (nokia e7) isn't compatible to link with my ipad. If I buy an internet dongle and a usb connector so I can plug it into the ipad, will this work? I know it will depend on whether the dongle wifi provider has coverage in my area, but I'm not sure if it will even work with the ipad.
    Any help greatly appreciated! Thanks

I don't believe that will work. The ipad camera connection kit which allows the connection of usb has limited funtionality, and not designed for that. You'll have to use a local, public wifi network.

  • How can i get my computer to print with a wireless HP envy4502 using an ATT sierra hotspot

I have a HP envy 4502 wireless printer that works find printing from my iphone. I use an ATT Sierra hotspot that is connected via usp to my computer to access the internet form it. My problem is I would like to print from my computer without having to connect the hotspot via usb and connect wireless via the hotspot. How do I connect the printer. Do i need a cable to connect it to computer or do I need a router to connect the computer to the printer wireless. I am confused as to what needs to be done so my hotspot doesnot have to be physically connected to print.

    Hi kragan,
I understand you would like to print from your computer to your Envy 4502.
I can help you with this. You should be able to run the wireless wizard on the front screen of the printer and connect it to your Hotspot wirelessly. If you put your computer on the same network, both devices can communicate withe one another. HP Printers are designed to work with 802.11 WiFi networks, thus connecting to the Hotspot may not work.
This particular model does have the feature called Wireless Direct (WD). HP wireless direct is a new feature that allows your Wi-Fi capable devices (for example: smart phones, tablets, or computers) to make a wireless network connection directly to your printer without using a wireless router or access point. You connect to your printer's HP wireless direct signal the same way you connect your Wi-Fi capable device to a new wireless network or hotspot. - Source
Please use the instructions in the link I sourced to set the printer up using wireless direct. Simply open the link and click on 'How to connect to HP wireless direct'.
Once the WD is enabled, open your network settings on your computer and choose the printer network, it will look like a variation of the printer name.
If you would like clarification or have any questions I would be happy to help.

Maybe you are looking to re-purpose this equipment versus getting rid of it if so, the best thing to do is search the internet for tutorials.  And I say this because it's what I would do, there are a lot of tutorials online.    Hope you can find good use for them.  Worse case scenario if you can't find something right now, package them very nicely and when you come across something unbox and enjoy.  I've re-purposed a mac color classic and LOVE IT!!

  • Can I use a Vodafone USB Dongle with my apple IPad 1st Generation if I have a USB adaptor for my IPad

Hi there just wondering does anyone know if I can use a Vodafone USB Dongle with my apple IPad 1st Generation 16gb (WiFi only) if I have a USB adaptor, will the IPad !st generation support a A Vodafone Dongle(Irish network)

You cannot plug a USB dongle into an iPad using the USB part of the iPad Camera Connection Kit.
The Camera Connection Kit is for connecting cameras - hence the name.
You'd need to get a MiFi device to use 3G data via WiFo on your iPad.

  • Using a dongle and connecting with an Xbox 360...

    Hi guys,
Quick question, i've moved into my new uni place but it hasn't got any internet. So im looking at getting a dongle but I still want to hook up my xbox to xbox live. Is there a way of feeding the internet through my imac (which is using the dongle) to the xbox. If its any help i do have the extra wireless box for the xbox and also an either-net cable.
    Thanks!

You X-Box can connect to the internet thru the Mac using either wifi or ethernet, whichever works best for you.
If you want Ethernet, connect a cable between them
If you want wifi, you need to first create a network.
    System prefs -> Network.
Select Airport then click on Network name: and select *Create network...*.
Give it a name, tick require password.
Now go System prefs -> Sharing.
    Click on *Internet Sharing*.
Set *Share your connection from:* and select the dongle (likely showing up as USB).
If you connect them using Ethernet, set *To computers using:* and select Ethernet.
If you connect them using wifi, set *To computers using:* and select Wifi.
You will need to enable wifi on the X-Box and connect with the password you set above.

I call BS but the tech guy was insistent that the iPhone can detect what plan I have and won't enable the feature and there's nothing they can do about it, short of selling me a larger data plan...

Actually it does.  It's wrong to lie to a customer.  By blaming Apple, they shift the blame and make it seem like there is nothing they can do about it.  If they admitted it was their policy, I could complain and try to get it changed or I could move to another carrier.
If a person killed someone and blamed it on a heart attack, the person is stil dead, does it matter? Either way they're dead, right...  (extreme, I know, but illustrating a point)
    Wow.
It is certainly Rogers policy and is not unusual at all among carriers.
Seems like a non-issue to me, but apparently being "lied to" ( perhaps the employee was simply mistaken, it happens) is a major deal to you.

Can I use my iPhone personal hotspot with my PC?

Turn on Personal Hotspot on your iPhone, and then look for your iPhone's name in your computer's Wifi network list and connect to it.
It works essentially the same as a regular wifi network.

  • PXE boot tablet with Used USB dongle

We are running SCCM 2012 R2 Single Primary Site Server.
We are using the dongle (USB) to PXE boot the tablet computer.
We have advertised the Task Sequence to All Unknown Computer.
Once we use the USB dongle to image computer 1 , then the MAC address of USB dongle gets associated with the computer name of the tablet because the tablet does not have Ethernet port.
Now to image computer 2 if we PXE boot with used dongle gets PXE abort as it is known computer.
If we advertise to "All Known" computers then try the PXE boot works and we can image computer2 .
Now how can we advertise task sequence to "All Unknown" computers and get the task sequence to work with used USB Dongle.

I suggest going back and reading it again then.
    Highlight:
A “better” solution could be to create a collection, that is based on the Mac Address of the devices, which are used to deploy those systems. So typically this collection will have a handful of Mac Addresses. Important part is, that those Mac addresses
shouldn’t be used in day to day business, just for the plain purpose of deployment. Then one can advertise as many task sequences as required and limit the deployment(s) to only media and PXE. This way, the deployment isn’t visible from the Software Center
but the support staff can continue to deploy new systems using PXE or other medias like USB Sticks.

as i said i have two iphone 4S,,,,,

but i want to connect the first 4S with carrier TATA DOCOMO GSM but its not working with the same USB feature????
    plz reply asap...!!!
    thnxxx in advance!!!

    If not this:
iOS: Wi-Fi or Bluetooth settings grayed out or dim
One user reported that placing the iPod in the freezer fixed the problem.
    Also heating sometimes works. See:
Why can't I select my wifi settings?
A trick that works frequently with iPhones:
Settings > AirPlane Mode ON, Do Not Disturb ON
Power down and wait 5-10 minutes
    Power up
Settings > AirPlane Mode OFF, Do Not Disturb OFF
If not successful, an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is usually in order.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
    Then:
Does the iOS device connect to other networks? See other networks? If yes that tends to indicate a problem with your network.
Does the iOS device see the network?
    Any error messages?
    Do other devices now connect?
Did the iOS device connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on your router
.- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem and it does not connect to any networks make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • Using BT FON with a different home router

I currently have a BT Home Hub and have opted in to BT FON, which I have been using quite a bit when away from home.
However, I am thinking about switching to a different router at home, for unrelated reasons.
Am I correct in my interpretation that I will still be able and allowed to use FON and OpenZone hotspots when away, even though this will mean that I cannot provide one myself?
Is it likely that this will continue to be the case in the future?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Rather than start a new thread I'll resurrect this one.
I'm a new BT Internet user and been on Infinity for 3 days. I've registered for Openzone and figured out how my HH3 transmits BTWiFi and BTWiFi with FON for other opted in users. All good stuff and working well.
A family relative has been on ADSL BT Internet for many years, originally he used an ancient desktop PC with a Voyager 205 connected via USB as his PC didn't have a working ethernet connection. After the 205 expired I gave him my old Voyager 2091, again connected via USB.
During his time with BT (Probably after changing contracts) he was sent two Home Hubs (Versions 1 & 2) whch he could not use as he didin't have a working ethernet connection.
So the Voyager 2091 expired last week, that was my last USB router. I installed a PCI ethernet adapter to his PC and used the newer Home Hub. The Home Hub connected to the internet fine (I could surf wirelessly for any period of time) but the connection between PC and HH would only last 8-10 mins after every reboot of the PC. There must have been some sort of issue between the HH and ethernet adapter as after I changed the HH for my spare Netgear there have been no more problems.
And the point of this post is to confirm that its still ok for him to sign up for BTWiFi/Openzone access even though he can't be a host as he's using a Netgear router. Would he be breaching any T&C?
    Thanks
