Using a dummy acct. to test-drive apps & docs to locate problem...

I recently have resorted to a clean install after troubleshooting a breakdown. In an effort to locate the source of the problem, I began installing hardware units one at a time (M-Audio interface, 2nd monitor, FW HD, USB HD and 2 USB printers), followed by applications, also one at a time. After loading and testing Logic 7.2, I loaded the Print Shop. Next I loaded Finale (which application I was using, along with Safari, when my computer initially went into it's tail-spin). Before testing Finale, I ran an installer for a Garritan sound library, included with the Finale install disc and meant to work with Finale. Immediately following this, my computer began acting very drunk. After a long, slow reboot, I was eventually able to remove both Finale and Garritan. My comp ran normal until the next morning, after which time I couldn't get past the blue screen at start-up. With phone help from Apple i was eventually able to boot up in safe mode. Further checking and testing eventually led to another clean install. Having cleaned the slate, I now wish to test each application in a test account, so that I don't trash my own personal account again. Once I have tried and proven an app, how do I transfer it from the test account to my own personal account (do I have to reinstall it or can I just move it from one account to another)? Is this even a reasonable way to test my stuff or is it a waste of time?

Also, if I used disk image and have to reload it onto a wiped HD, how do I open & install the clone without having to reinstall from my Tiger disc first?
A Disk Image & a Clone are two different things, you need an operating OS to Mount/Restore the Disk image, a Clone you just select to boot from by holding the Option key down at bootup, and really the way to go.
As the fine Limnos mentions, but to add my 3 cents...
Get carbon copy cloner to make an exact copy of your old HD to the New one...

BTW, a Firewire Drive will be much faster than a USB drive despite the 400 vs. 480 thing.

  • Running "Flex test drive" - Got error while attempting to connect to data service

    Hi,
I'm a Flex / Flash builder beginner. I downloaded the 60 days evaluation, and started to run the "Flex test drive" :
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flex/testdrive.html
    My configuration :
    XP SP3 PRO french edition
    Tomcat 6.0
My local Eclipse :eclipse-jee-helios-SR2-win32 (but also got the issue on the Flash Builder Eclipse, which version is 3.4.0 (Generation ID M20090211-1700)
Flash Builder 4 with Eclipse plug-in
    All on same PC
The Test Drive proposes examples in three technologies : Cold Fusion, PHP and Java. I'm doing the Java examples.
Installation of Flash Builder, as well as step 1 of the Test Drive (Build the user interface) went fine. I could run the project, which at the end of step 1 correctly displayed the UI in my browser.
Only one problem, I don't know if it is relevant for the rest of this post : I first got an error, saying that ports 8080, 8005 and 8009, requested by Tomcat, where used. After a short Google search, I fixed it by changing these ports to 8081, 8006, and 8010, in the Tomcat 6.0\conf\server.xml file.
The Test drive second step is "Connect to data". I found some discrepancies between the Test Drive doc, and what is displayed in Flash Builder. The Test Drive says :
"Use the Data menu and the Service Wizard to create a service for your application server. For ColdFusion and Java, specify the service file you put on your application server earlier (see Figure 9 for a PHP example). For Java, select the No password required check box, select the employeeService destination, and change the service package to services.employeeservice."
--> But there is no "No password required check box".
Also, when running the "Connect to data/service..." wizard, it was not at first completely clear what to choose. The proposed choices were :
    BlazeDS
    ColdFusion
    HTTP
    LCDS
    PHP
    Web Service
    XML
Since all others choices, when tried, declared to be unconsistent with my project's server type, I finally selected "Web Service".
In the next wizard's form, according to the Test Drive indications, I specified the URI of my EmployeeService class : C:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Tomcat 6.0\webapps\testdrive\WEB-INF\classes\services\EmployeeService.class
That defined correctly the other fields.
But when pressing the "Next >" button, Flash Builder issued the following error message :
English translation : Unable to extract operations and entities from specified WSDL. Reason : an error occured while instrospecting the service.
And the full error text is :
An error occured while instrospecting the service. WSDLException: faultCode=PARSER_ERROR: Problem parsing 'file:/C:/Program%20Files/Apache%20Software%20Foundation/Tomcat%206.0/webapps/testdrive/W EB-INF/classes/services/EmployeeService.class'.: com.sun.org.apache.xerces.internal.impl.io.MalformedByteSequenceException: Invalid byte 2 of 2-byte UTF-8 sequence.
It is usually relatively easy to find fixes through Google searches, but this time, it didn't work. So here I am, expecting a bunch of wise answers from all the nice Flex / FB gurus that I'm sure haunt this forum .
    Thanks and best regards.
    Marc.

For those who would have the same problem, here is how I could eventually fix it.
Since the Flex Test Drive is sometimes out of sync with flash builder 4, I recreated a project using other help pages on Adobe site :
    Entry point :
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/Flex/4.0/AccessingData/WSbde04e3d3e6474c4-668f02f4120d422cf08- 7ffd.html
As suggested, I used the New Project wizard to create a new project, with :
    Application server type : J2EE
Check the radio button "Use remote object access service : BlazeDS"
Then, as indicated in following pages (section "Accessing BlazeDS")... :
    file:///C:/Mes%20documents%20C/Commun/Developpement/Documentation/HT-Tracks/AccessingData/ help.adobe.com/en_US/Flex/4.0/AccessingData/WSbde04e3d3e6474c4-668f02f4120d422cf08-7ffe.ht ml#WSbde04e3d3e6474c4-19a3f0e0122be55e1b7-8000
...I selected the "Data / Connect to Data/Services..." menu option, which started the Data/service connection wizard.
There, I selected a BlazeDS (and not Web Services) service type, and everything went fine.
Suggestion to adobe staff : maybe it would be useful to update the Flex Test Drive to reflect Flash Builder 4 ?
Very nice product anyway, so far, congratulations...
    Rgds
    Marc.

  • Office Test Drive is a pain

    Bought new MacBook - great!
FireWire all my work and applications from iMac - great!
Start using Office (purchased 2yrs ago) and Test Drive wants me to buy again - not so great!
Removed Test Drive using "Remove" application residing in Test Drive folder and change all my files in "Get info" to open using my original version of Office but get error 10660. Now all my existing and new files will not open and come up with error 10660. The only way to open them is to change "open with" in "Get info" on every single file
(this is 100s) even although I changed "open with" to "chnage all". When I go to the "open with" menu I can still see the old version of Test Drive as default even although I used the remove application - pain in the **
This is another case of Microsoft trying to take over the world. Why has Apple allowed this?
Any suggestions would be very welcome.
    thx
    MacBook Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I didn't install Office just used the FireWire cable to transfer. Surely this is the whole idea that you don't need to install your exisiting software again! It was a couple of days before I realised that Test Drive had taken control of my computer.
Thanks for your comments anyway but I still think Apple should re-think pre-loading Test Drive. It has and will cost me time to put it right. Who do you think I should send the bill to?
    Ok I've stopped moaning now!
    Thanks again

  • MS Office Test Drive Expired

    Hi,
I have just received a new iBook 12', and whilst I wait for software to arrive I was planning on using Office for some university work. However, I went to load up a word document and was told that the test drive had already expired!? Does this sound suspect to anyone, or am I just being stupid?
    Ad.

    Hi Folks -
The first thing to do is navigate to the Applications folder where the Test Drive was installed. Within that folder (or one of the folders in it) you will find a Remove Office utility. Use it to remove the Test Drive, emptu the Trash & restart.
    Then you can go to
    http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads.aspx?pid=download&location=/mac/download/ office2004/office2004.xml&secid=4&ssid=1&flgnosysreq=True
and download/install another copy of the Test Drive. While there you might want to take a look at
    http://www.microsoft.com/mac/products/office2004/howtobuy/howtobuy.aspx?pid=howt obuy
and you will find some pretty good deals if you recently bought a new Mac.

  • MS Office Test Drive

I just purchased a new 24" G5. I used the Migration Program and moved all the files from my G4 over. It worked just fine, but I now have my version of Office from the G4 plus the Test Drive version that came with the G5. I went to use the uninstaller for the Test Drive, but it said it searches and removes the files associated with Office (or something to that affect). I am afraid if I do that it will go after my existing copy that I migrated.
Has anyone done this and survived?

You need something like AppZapper, which will remove all traces of Test Drive. I have done it and here I am, in the flesh

  • Installed MS Office for Mac, after uninstalling test drive, still reg to TD

I installed MS Office for Mac 2004 this morning, after being very careful to uninstall the test drive version, after reading about problems it causes not to do so. I followed the instructions to uninstall, emptied the trash after, did the installation, updates, etc. But when I look at the "about" section of word, etc, it shows that the product is licensed to "Office 2004 Test Drive User". I did fill in the info on name, address, etc, and the "test version" watermarks that I was seeing on excel spreadsheets pre-installation are gone now. I have rebooted the machine. Do I need to register each application separately? Did I miss something in the uninstall?
Also, after installing the new Office, I had problems accessing the internet from accounts other than the one from which I'd done the installation. I asked about that in the internet related subforum here, thought I had it fixed, but it's been inconsistent, seems to work on-and-off in the different accounts. Did the accessing of the net during the course of the install knock something out of place?

I installed office after deleting test drive. Registration is fine. Microsoft creates a user pref folder for each user account. This will be activated with your individual pref. the first time you open one of the office programs. It will be different/reset for each user on the computer. So it is possible that different users would experience different problems connecting to the internet. I copied my users pref and library folder over from my powerbook to the imac and all of my settings seem to work just fine on the new imac.
My suggestion would be to uninstall all versions of office on your imac and then reinstall office 2004. Be sure to do this in an administrator account and to repair permissions before and after install.
    Good luck!

  • App.doc not working anymore - stuck, please help

I'm fairly new to javascript development inside Acrobat. I had a set of working folder-level scripts that created buttons. Using Acrobuttons, I set them up using this type of pattern:
    var oButton =
    {cName: "testButton",
    cExec: DoCmdTest,
    cEnable: "event.rc = (checkValid())",
    cMarked: "event.rc = false",
    cTooltext: "try again!",
    nPos: -1,
    cLabel: "Try again"};
where the checkValid() function was defined above, something like this:
    checkMyValid = app.trustedFunction(function(){
              if (app.doc == null) {
                        console.println('it still thinks it is null');
                                  return false;
// other checks here to see if the button should be enabled...
      // in which case they return true;
      // otherwise:
       return false;
This was all working fine, until yesterday. Suddenly, app.doc is null every time. And if I use app.activeDocs[0], same result.
Yet when I use the console with a document open, app.doc and app.activeDocuments[0] both return my document.
    Has anyone experienced this?
    Thanks,
    Jack

  • FDS Test Drive - help with sample apps

I'm trying to use the FDS 30 Minute TestDrive sample apps
    inside
Flex Builder. I downloaded the test drive and all the samples
    work
just dandy fine, and I can view the source etc. So I wanted
    to load
some of the sample apps into Flex Builder so that I could
    modify and
play with them with the debugger so as to learn more.
    I've tried the following:
create New Project - use Flex Data Services/compile app
    locally
    Root Folder: C:\fds-tomcat\webapps\ROOT
    Root URL:
    http://localhost:8600/ROOT.
When I click Finish, I get the
following 3 errors in the Output panel:
unable to load SWC fds.swc: multiple points
unable to load SWC fds.swc: multiple points
The definition of base class Locale was not found
Could not resolve<mx:Application> to a component
    implementaion
    I am on Flex 2.0.143459.
I've verified that fds.swc is indeed in the
    C:\fds-tomcat\webapps\ROOT\WEB-INF\flex\libs folder.
I don't know what the other messages mean or what to do.
I then stubbornly unzipped one of the sample apps into the
FlexBuilder project folder (which I named FDS TestDrive
    Samples) and
tried to run it anyway to see if I could get more info. I
    then get
a browser window with the following additional errors:
    type Status report
    message /ROOT/FDS%20TestDrive%20Samples/Chat.html
    description The requested resource (/ROOT/FDS%20TestDrive%
    20Samples/Chat.html) is not available.
So I guess one problem is that it is not making an html
    document.
But I don't know how to correct that.
I have no idea what to do. Any help would be GREATLY
    appreciated.

Someone helped me offlist with this after I got frustrated
that this forum is essentially dead. But in case anyone else needs
this info, I thought I'd post. First you need to be on Flex version
2.0.155577. So I had to redownload all of Flex, uninstall my older
version, install the new version. Then I did the following
to create the Flex Builder project for the dashboard sample
    app:
    File - > New -> Flex Project
    Select Flex Data Services
    Select Compile application locally
    Click Next
Deselect "Use default local Flex Data Services Location"
    Click Browse... and open c:\fds-tomcat\webapps\ROOT
    Root URL:
    http://localhost:8600/
    Context root: /
    Click Next
    Project name: <Whatever you want to name it>;
    Deselect "Use default location"
    Folder: c:\fds-tomcat\webapps\ROOT\dashboard
    Click Next
    Main application file: dashboard.mxml
    Click Finish
The Context root was really key. Also, to get my old projects
back into Flex, I used file:import and then had to do a little
additional fiddling with some of the projects' properties.
Too bad this Forum is so dead. I've tried to get feedback to
Adobe about that concern, but so far it hasn't helped. sigh

  • Is there a way to test NIVLM using a dummy license file?

we are testing a situation where an autocad install (Flexlm) crashes a nicely running VLM install. we wan to test this on another server using a dummy license file. just to keep away from the Live environment. Can this be done?
    ruud
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Thanks Bas, I will do that...
    By the way:
Autocad ports are directed to 27002 while NI ports are directed to the default 27000. the "funny" thing is, that after installing autocod NI licensing does not work. then after re-installing nivlm, VLM and autocad work, using the flexlm tool. users still get the message that they are not licensed, but the flexlm lm tool notes the logged on user. the nivlm tool on the other hand does not know the user has klogged on. That could be explained by the fact that in the nivlm tool de licenseserver cannot be started using the Start License Server Button.

  • Is it possible to use Oracle instead of DB2 with Netweaver Test-drive 2004?

    Dear all,
Recently I ordered on SAP Knowledge shop the Netweaver Test-Drive 2004 DVD (the 32-bit version for Linux (Red Hat Enterprise)).
Before the installation I had already installed Oracle Enterprise 11g (Release 2). However the DVD installed both AS and DB2.
What I would like to ask is that is it possible to use my already installed Oracle database with Netweaver and
    remove DB2 from hard disk?

  • How to use JCo Provider Service w/Sneak Preview and Test Drive

I have both SAP Web AS Sneak Preview (6.40) and MiniWas 6.20 Test Drive installed on a single system.  I have implemented a Java server program which can be RFC called from an ABAP program using JCO.
The only disadvantage to this process is that I must manually run the server program each time I bring up the J2EE system.
I would like to set things up so that when I start the WebAS 6.40 J2EE system, the server function can be automatically registered (if I'm using the correct terminology - not at all sure about that...).  It looks to me that I should be able to use JCo Provider Service to do what I want to do, but I don't know how to do any of the session bean creation and I esp. can't seem to find out how to run the  J2EE Visual Administrator, which the documentation I've found leads me to believe needs to be used.
Is there a tutorial, or example, that will lead me through this entire process?  I have the ABAP calling program working OK, and I have the Java JCo server program working ok - I just want to create something in Java that will operate like a good old C Language function installed as an RFM.
Can anyone help? Is it possible?

    Stefan:
Well, I guess I'm stuck at the first step.
As I understand it, I have to use the Visual Administrtor to register the Web AS 6.40 Sneak Preview system as an RFC destination.  When I bring up the Visual Administrator, it has essentially two tabs showing: Dispatcher and Server.  It's inviting me to define a connection and Login.  So, Q1: Is it inviting me to login to the J2EE or the Web AS?  Either way, I am never able to login - I get this error:
    com.sap.engine.services.security.exceptions.BaseLoginException: Cannot create new RemoteLoginContext
I used all of the NetWeaver sneak preview defaults when installing, and I recorded these:
    Type               Account
    OS User            Compaq-laptop/J2EAdm
    OS User            Compaq-laptop/SAPServiceJ2E
    DB User            SAPJ2EDB
    J2EE Engine User   Administrator
    J2EE Engine User   Guest
Q2:  Is it possible to do what I'm trying to do with the Sneak Preview system?
Or am I trying to connect and logon to the Web AS 6.20 Test Drive (I don't think so...)?  I used the defaults when installing the Test Drive, and have these users:
    BCUSER
    DDIC
Is it one of these I should be logging onto?
Also, Visual Administrator wants a port specified on the J2EE Engine connection paramters - what port should I be specifiying?
Can you get me past this dilemma, Stefan?  Thanks...

  • HT4623 My daughter update my iphone using her itunes acct., which caused all her apps to download onto my iphone. Now when it asks for my password it has her email address instead of mine. How can I fix the problem?

My daughter was updating her iphone to the iOS6 and everything went great. So, she was going to update mine. She used her itunes acct. instead of mine and it downloaded all her music and apps onto my iphone. Now when it asks for me to enter my password, it has her email address. How can I fix this???

plug your iphone into your computer with your itunes account signed in to update it, (if you want your own apps ect.) if all you want to do is change accounts signed in on the iphone than simply open settings and scroll down until you see itunes and app stores touch the apple id tip top and signout, sign yourself in. any apps she has "purschased" that you have not.. i imagine will just cease to work.
if you both share the same contacts, it won't be a big deal, however if you have work and her shcools numbers ect, and she just has mom/dad/buddies you may have double numbers and apps and what not by doing this, so if it does become a mess.. just get on itunes log into your account by clicking the store menu in itunes and going down to the account id on the bottom of that menu and just restore your phone.

  • Uninstalling MS Office test Drive

I am trying to uninstall MS Offic Test Drive as I am using NeoOffice now. Every time I try and open a document it tries to use MS Word - which is annoying....
    Anyway...
I tried to use the "Remove Office" utility and it looked like it was working - it saw the test drive, started removing files and then stopped b/c I was in a non-admin account. I logged into my admin account and tried the same thing and now the Remove Office is not finding any installs of the software - but I can see then - click on them and it starts opening the trial.
    Weird...
So, is there another way to get rid of this?
    Thanks,
    Rebecca

Try this app to clean up unwanted programs it finds the files that can be removed http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/32740 but always check they dont have an uninstaller program first, MSOffice does but doesnt seem to remove the associated files. Mitch

  • Remove office test drive

How do i remove the office 2004 test drive from my computer? I tried using the remove office app included in the folder but it says it has no office files on the computer? How can i remove this folder and its apps? just move to trash? and it will delete all the files associated with office, like preference files and stuff?

if you have never used the test drive then simply drag the entire folder to the Trash and empty. if you have used the test drive then you must first use the uninstaller. For more help on uninstalling see:
    Uninstalling Software: The Basics
Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash. Applications may create preference files that are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder. Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space. If you want you can look for them in the above location and delete them, too.
Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application. In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder. You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder. You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder. Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
Some applications may install a startupitem or a Log In item. Startupitems are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder. Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences. Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab. Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the "-" button to delete it from the list.
Some software use startup daemons or agents that are a new feature of the OS. Look for them in /Library/LaunchAgents/ and /Library/LaunchDaemons/ or in /Home/Library/LaunchAgents/.
If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term. Unfortunately Spotlight will not look in certain folders by default. You can modify Spotlight's behavior or use a third-party search utility, Easy Find, instead. Download Easy Find at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.
Some applications install a receipt in the /Library/Receipts/ folder. Usually with the same name as the program or the developer. The item generally has a ".pkg" extension. Be sure you also delete this item as some programs use it to determine if it's already installed.
There are also several shareware utilities that can uninstall applications:
    AppZapper
    CleanApp
    Yank
    SuperPop
    Uninstaller
    Spring Cleaning
Look for them at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.
