Using a Family Members Upgrade, Question on the Process

I plan to pre-order the phone on my brother's line since he is eligible, he's away at college though. When I swap the ESN's or whatever, will I need any info from him or need him to get involved at all? Or can I just do it all myself?
Also, my brother doesn't have a data plan..so how will that work?

When you are on my verizon click transfer upgrade on your brothers line to yours...you have to have account acess though.  Do you have a data plan?  iAll that matters.  If not just purchase it on check out.  They will ask.

  • Using a Family Members upgrade

Ok so i know this has been asked before and I think I get the gist of it. I currently have the Dinc and am giving it to my bro for his upgrade. My Dinc has insurance and unlimited data. I know I will have to activate it on his line before mine. My question is if I choose to add insurance (and of course the data plan) to his line, will the phones both still have valid insurance even though they switched lines?

    Hello,

  • Question on using another family members upgrade

Okay, so I plan to pre-order the iPhone 4 on the 3rd, but I am not eligible for an upgrade yet. However, my uncle is eligible and has said that I can use his upgrade. When I order the iPhone 4 using his line, how exactly do I then activate it for my line? Please note that he lives in a different state right now, so I won't have his phone available to me during this process. is his phone needed at all?

During the preorder for the iphone you will not be able to select " Alternate Upgrade". The functionality of the alternate upgrade will become available online at a later date. To process the upgrade online for the iPhone, you will have to select the line that is eligible for the upgrade. Once you receive the device and activate it you may then swap the ESN to the line of your choice. To swap the ESN to your device contact our customer service team.

  • Picking up iphone at Apple store feb 10th- but bought it using a family members upgrade! help!

Apple said they won't activate it for me when I pick it up tomorrow because only verizon can handle situations like this-where I am taking someone elses upgrade- what do I do!

    This a condensed version:
Power off the original device on the upgraded line, your old phone and the iPhone.
Activate the iPhone on the line it was originally purchased.
Take the iPhone off of the line by putting the original phone back on to the account.
Put the iPhone on the line you want it to be on.  Reset the iPhone and then plug it into computer with iTunes and allow the activation.  If the iPhone has been activated on one one and needs to be switched, you must reset the phone or the process will not work.
Call technical support, tell them that you want to take the device off of one line and put it onto another and they can help you with it.  Be patient and follow their instruction and should be a painless process for you

  • Using another family members upgrade?

This has probably been asked a billion times, so sorry about that. My mother and I both have an iphone 4s, but she has had hers for longer so she is eligible for an upgrade sooner than me. Mine is cracked pretty badly, and I can't use this phone for another year. Can I use her upgrade to get an iPhone 5?

        Dear tylersux,
Good morning. I am sorry to hear your phone was recently damanged. I know how frustrating it can be to work with a cracked screen on your phone. It would be my pleasure to address your upgrade concerns.
First and foremost, have you checked if you have insurance on your phone? If so, you may file a claim and replace your phone with the same make and model. To verify insurance and file a claim click http://bit.ly/07CrqPK
If there is no insurance, I am happy to inform you that yes, if your mother's phone line is eligible to upgrade, you may process an alternate upgrade by using her upgrade to get a new phone at discounted pricing then activate the phone on your line. This will extend her contract end date as well as her upgrade date. Also, please keep in mind, if she has a grandfathered unlimited data plan, it would remove her data plan and require to change to new data pricing. • Can i use another family members upgrade for an iPhone?

I currently have a Blackberry Bold with unlimited data, and the other line on my plan is just a basic phone. Currently walmart, has the iPhone 5 on sale for $127 but the sale goes off before my upgrade which is on 1/23/12. Back in October one vzw sales Rep told me j could transfer the other persons upgrade to my line to get an iPhone 5. But last night on the vzw support twitter someone told me that the iPhone 5 wasn't eligible for early upgrades therefor I couldn't use the other lines upgrade, that I could only use mine on 1/23? Does anybody know which is right?     Also could I keep my unlimited data if I was to transfer her upgrade? I know I couldn't if I used mine.

Yes if you transfer her upgrade you can A) get the iphone and B) keep your unlimited data and because your coming from a blackberry to iphone i advised doing backup assistance on your blackberry before the transfer but other than that youll have no problem with the activation just make sure that if you get it from walmart that you call to activate it otherwise they will activate it on the wrong line and cause all sorts of problems

  • Can I use a family members upgrade on another line?

So my mother currently has an upgrade on her line but doesn't intend to use it. I however do not have an upgrade until January but need to get a new phone. Instead of using the insurance and paying $150 for a replacement iPhone 4, I'd much rather just spend $199 for an iPhone 5...obviously. Is it possible for my mother to order an iPhone 5 on her account, and then activate it on my line so that I can use it?
I think I've heard that Verizon won't let you do this unless the new phone has been active on the original account for like 3 months, but that seems stupid to me. Why do they care who gets the phone?
Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Yes you can do that. What you would have to do (if you have a consumer account, not a business account) is first activate the phone on her line, deactivate the phone and then reactivate it on your line. As long as you are with the primary account owner, you can head to the Verizon store and they will do everything for you. It get's a little tricky if you try to go without the person who is the Account Owner (i've had problems in the past). But you can absolutely upgrade her line and then activate the phone for yours. They just can't transfer the upgrade since the phone is pre-ordered.

  • IPhone5 Preorder Family Members Upgrade

    Hi all,
As everyone knows the iPhone 5 is now available for pre-order, only problem is I have one more year till I can upgrade for the price of $200 with my carrier AT&T.  However, a family member of mine has an upgrade and said I could use theirs, so that is the route I am considering.
    So my question is...
Could I order a new phone online, imputing their number as the phone to be upgraded and when it arrives just put my sim card in it?? Will it work like that or do I have to go to an AT&T retail store and do it?
Any help will be great, Thanks

    Hi Roger:
Thanks for the reply.  I think I figured out the problem.  Apple has confused (at least in my mind) the different IDs that people can have.  In the iCloud settings, they use the term Apple ID and not iCloud ID.  I guess there really is no such thing as an iCloud ID.  There are Apple IDs with various attributes.  This is not clearly explained or easy to see (how could I look up to see if my Apple ID is associated with iTunes for example?).
I created, what I thought were iCloud IDs for each family member, but we all use my Apple ID for iTunes.
One other question - why does the syncing of Notes using iCloud require an @me.com email account.  That makes no sense to me.
    Thanks for your help!

    Hey tyjox,
Thanks for the question. After reviewing your post, it sounds like you need to deactivate Find My iPhone on a device that does not work. You will need to work with the family member of the account the iPhone is registered with. I would recommend that you use this article to help you resolve or isolate the issue.
iCloud: Remove your device from Find My iPhone
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2702
Remove an iOS device you no longer have
If you no longer have the iOS device because you gave it away or sold it, you need to remotely erase it before you can remove it.
Sign in to icloud.com/#find with your Apple ID (the one you use with iCloud). If you’re using another iCloud app, click the app’s name at the top of the iCloud.com window, then click Find My iPhone.
Click All Devices, then select the device.
Click Erase [device], then enter your Apple ID password. Because the device isn’t lost, don’t enter a phone number or message. If the device is offline, the remote erase begins the next time it’s online. You’ll receive an email when the device is erased.
When the device is erased, click Remove from Account. All your content is erased and someone else can now activate the device.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    Have a nice day,

  • Can I not use a family members credit card to buy a new phone?

I'm looking to upgrade to a new phone, but due to limits on my own debit card, I would like to use a family members credit card but it seems I'm unable to do so. Is there a way around that?

rooster208, what issues are you having with making the purchase? What error message are you receiving? The card has to have a Visa or Mastercard Logo. We do allow this type of transaction.  Here is a link below for information regarding our payments for the bill or purchases.

Yeah, Siri - a headline feature on the iPhone 4s page - is beta at the mo.
But then anyone who's used Macs for a few years will know that most new software is pretty much still in beta when it's released anyway. Only Apple could get away with it and retain customers

  • Activation of iPhone 6 - used family members upgrade

I just received my iPhone 6 plus (used a relatives upgrade to get the phone for me). When I try activating it, it seems locked on the relatives phone number. I've tried using my old sim card from the iphone 5, but I have no way to change the number. How can I activate the phone with my number and not my relatives? I have tried both updating via the cell connection and using itunes.
Using ATT and upgrading from iPhone 5 to 6 plus.
    Any help is appreciated

Just be aware that it may need to stay under their account. If your account was not eligible for an upgrade you may not be able to move it over. I would say that when you talk to someone at AT&T that you are very clear in what you are wanting to do and what will happen to both accounts. I'm guessing that you did it under a relative because your account wasn't eligible for an upgrade. If you move it to your account (if they will let you) then you will most likely need to pay off any remaining subsidy on an existing phone and/or pay full price for the iPhone 6 to pay it off on your relative's account.

  • Upgrading via another family members upgrade

Sorry if this was already asked/answered... just need clarification.
I am not eligibile for an upgrade until July.... however another line on our family plan is.  Couldn't we go through the normal upgrade process, for the line that is due, on the 3rd.. i.e. order the iphone on that number... but when it comes, activate the iphone on my number and not the other?
    Can I do that?
If I did do that... would my upgrade on 7/11 be changed then?

During the preorder for the iphone you will not have to select " Alternate Upgrade". You will have to select the line that is eligible for the upgrade. During the upgrade process you will have to select the data package that fits your needs. Once you receive the device and activate it you may then swap the ESN to the line of your choice. Do you know if the phone that had the upgrade is needed during this process? I will be using my dad's upgrade, but he is going to be gone all of next month so his phone won't be available to me. He'd kill me if all of a sudden his phone wasn't working anymore when he's out of town!

  • USING OTHER FAMILY ACCT UPGRADE AND TRANSFERRING TO MY PHONE #

    Sharing Upgrade Question
    Hi all,
A family member was eligible for upgrade 1/20/11 we are on different accounts.  He has a simple standard phone but i wanted to get another phone he has let me use his upgrade which changed his plan  to include a data plan.
in order to actually order the phone  I wanted which i know can later be changed back to his original plan.
What steps are going to have to happen for me to activate the new phone under my phone number?  Does he have to do it under his contract  and is this going to require having to call CS? If he does call CS can he just let them know he decided to give me the phone and let me activate in under my phone number?
I know this void the warranty..
    Thanks
    Have a nice da!

Do i have to have both phones in my possession in front of me.Your family member (with the upgrade) will need to have his phone and the iPhone with him.  First, he will activate the iPhone on his line to accept the terms of the contract.  He MUST do this, or he could be charged full price for the phone.  Once it is activated, the contract has been accepted, so he can then re-activate his old phone on his line.  Re-activating his old phone will release the iPhone to be used on another line.
Do i have to call into CS? If i call into CS can't I just let them know he didn't want the phone so i want to activate it to my phone number instead. You do not have to call into CS.  Dialing *228 and choosing option 1 will put you into the automated activation system.  If your activation has a problem, you will automatically be connected to CS so they can finish the process.  You CANNOT call CS and tell him "he doesn't want the phone."  As the account owner, HE has to accept the 2-year contract by activating the phone on his line first before it can be used on another line.
The thing is I won't have his phone availabe to me as i will be at work and he will be somewhere else. You don't need to have his phone, but he does need to have the iPhone briefly to activate it on his line.  Then he can give it to you to activate on your line.
Sorry for all the confusion but if i can transfer and have the new phone that i ordered with me while temporaily activating it then transferring it over to my number while the family member has his phone whereever he may be would be great if not i will have to wait to activate it when all the phones can be together. Thank you every1 that has responded and sorry for all the confusion.
