Using a gray card

If you use a gray card in your image to determine your white balance, how do you apply the correct white balance/color balance to other images that don't have the gray card in the shot?
thanks.

192,192, 192 is the same gray as a gray card. If all images are shot the same. make your adjustments on the image with the gray card so the gray card reads 192, 192, 192 and apply those corrections to all your images.

  • I want to use a gray card shot in ACR to multiple photos. Poss into the Elements or  only in PS?

I want to click the grey card photo in ACR 7.3. of Elements, an then apply it to multiple Photos there.
Is that possible in Elemements or only in Photoshop's ACR?

Thanks, but just this it was I‘d done – to click my RAW files, select open in Windwos Explorer – and ACR opens – but only with first selectet file. I’m missing the fim stripe on the left site….thats the Problem. All selected files are imported into ACR, but I only see the full size image of the at first selectet file. Breaking the prozess…I see one after the other selectet filed disappearing . The were open, but not shown as a filstripe…that’s the problem

  • Standardizing exposure across multiple images using a gray card

    Hi,
I am studying chest feather coloration in Barn Swallows, and take pictures of swallow chests against a white background with gridlines, while always including a gray card in the image. In order to evaluate chest color between birds, the lighting, exposure and white balance for all images must be identical.
I place my tripod in the shade whenever possible and set exposure manually (using the spot meter on a D200) to be 2 stops underexposed, and use fill flash to provide the bulk of the light. This gives me even lighting, but because of the automative flash exposure adjustment, each photo has slightly different luminance.
I was under the impression that adjusting exposure would be a snap by clicking on the gray card in each image and telling my software to adjust it to 18% reflectance. However, Lightroom does not seem have such a feature. This seems very strange given how frequently one is instructed to standardize exposure with a gray card.
Adding to the problem is that my gray card (from Delta) has a lot of microscopic variation in its surface in brightness (and hue). While Lightroom gives me a white balance adjustment eye dropper, it seems to be limited to sampling one pixel, rather than averaging values over a number of pixels. Because of the limitations of my gray card, Lightroom's white balance eye dropper is of little use, as the white balance vary dramatically depending on which pixel on the gray card I sample. Is there a way to change the size of the area sampled for white balance purposes?
    Thanks much,
    Gernot

    Gernot,
I think the thing to do is to use a consistent setup, which means no TTL on the flash and a set distance from the subject, and minimise ambient light effects (small aperture).
Alternatively you could photograph a "colourchecker" with each bird and use a calibration script on the raw files to sort out the settings each time - a bit lengthy though, expect about 20 minutes a time. However, it would be quite definitive.
As far as the "single point" problem goes, you could set all the noise sliders to the max to blur out the imperfections in the card, take a sample, then undo the noise corrections.
I can't help thinking that for reference work like this, Photoshop is the tool for the job and LR will help you get organised into PS, but it won't replace it.

  • Color correcting using gray card & FCP6?

with still photography, I can color correct rather quickly using a WhiBal card from http://www.rawworkflow.com/products/whibal/index.html .
Is it possible do perform some rudimentary correction using this with FCP6 - until I add the other pieces of equipment I'll need to do it properly.
I've got an Gretag Macbeth Eye-One monitor calibrator
    http://www.rawworkflow.com/products/gmb/eye-one_display2.html
and I was hoping to limp along for a bit.
What would the workflow look like in FCP6 if this is possible?

    Use your 3-way color corrector.
Click the eyedropper for the WHITES and select the white
Click the eyedropper for the MIDS and select a gray
Click the eyedropper for the BLACKS and select a black.
    That will get you matched.
    Good luck,

  • Is the Kodak Gray card "spectrally neutral"?

Does anyone know if the Kodak R-27 18% gray card is spectrally neutral? How about when lit with different illuminants? Would it be appropriate for setting WB in ACR?
I'm more interested in actual measurements or well-documented articles than opinions.
    Thanks, Lou

Jeff Schewe wrote: He's wrong...simple as that. An 18% graycard is too dark to be used optimally for white balance. There's a reason why it's called "white balance". You want to have the balance determine much further up the tone scale than a middle gray. The second to the lightest (or even the lightest if the exposure is down a bit) patch is what was used to develop the Camera Raw White Balance tool. It's foolish to ignore that...
You shouldn't use the N1 patch (brighest patch) of the ColorChecker, since it is not spectrally neutral. It is difficult to produce paint that is spectrally neutral at that reflection density. See Bruce Lindbloom's Color Checker Calculator for typical values. The remaining patches are pretty neutral. N2 is best for white balance, since the camera will collect more photons and the signal:noise will be better. If the camera has good noise characteristics, a good white balance at base ISO can be obtained from the N4 square, which is midgray (L* = 51). However, at high ISO or with cameras with worse S:N the WB may not be optimal.
For example, with the Nikon D3 at base ISO (200), here is the white balance from N4 (patch 22). The RGB values for the neutral patches are shown in the ACR readout at the top.
Here are the results for N2, patch 20:
    N1 (patch 19):
    And N6 (patch 24):
With the exception of WB with N1 (which is not specrtally neutral), the RBG values are very close at all levels when WB is performed with the other patches.
I don't have a spectrophotometer to read my Kodak gray card, but gray balancing on this card produces suboptimal results as shown here:

  • How can I set up different profiles (accounts??) using the credit card?

Each member of my family would like to have there own itunes profile (or account??), but we'd like to use the same credit card. Is this possible? Does each family member need a unique email address for log in.
    Thanks
    Markoman

So my sister and I have our own separate iTunes accounts, and she has her set up with her credit card. She let me use her credit card on mine but it keeps saying the security code is invalid. Then the credit card company called about her credit card activity. Are you sure it's not impossible to use the same credit card on our different accounts?

  • Why can't I just use my debit card for adding my child to family share?!

I want to use my child on family share but can't because I don't need or want a credit card, my bank has fraud protection, who actually just called me about fraud because I purchased the newest iPhone! I don't like credit cards. Why can't I just use my debit card as usual? Kids can get credit cards just as easily as they can debit cards! This is ridiculous. Why isn't there another option to verify I am the parent?! I am so beyond angry right now. Like I am being punished for not owning a credit card!! Otherwise there will be another way to do this. A person should have the freedom to use their chosen form of payment without missing out on all the options available. Honestly even if I wanted a credit card I haven't enough credit because of past mistakes. So this is not making me happy at all.

    Mad Parent,
I feel your pain. We refuse to have credit cards, too; yet it's required in order to create a child's apple id. I will most definitely be leaving feedback with Apple. This is absolutely ridiculous that we can't just use our debit cards! Mine is a VISA. I use it to make CREDIT CARD transactions everywhere else, why not be able to use it the same way here!?
I just had to restore my sons phone because he forgot his 4-digit password and got it disabled. I didn't have it already on my itunes so my only option was to restore it. I wanted to create his own apple id so he didn't have to keep using mine. Because every time he downloads a new game it automatically ends up on MY device as well, not just his. Anyway, he needs his own apple id. But, apparently, that won't be happening until Apple gets their heads out of their butts and figures out how to serve ALL of their customers!

  • How do I use my gift card instead of my credit card?

I have always used gift cards to buy my music off of Itunes, but when I recently used it I only had 25 cents left. So when I clicked on the music to buy it, it showed me all of my account information and asked for the security number to the credit card that I have listed under my account. But my parents didn't want me using their credit card, so my mom bought me some more gift cards. I redeemed the money on the cards, but for whatever reason it still takes me to the "Billing Info" and asks for the security number, even though I have money already in my account from the gift cards. Until then, I am unable to purchase any new music. How do I switch back to using my gift cards and not the credit card?

It is a security measure that has been implemented in iTunes.
When it asks for the security info on the CC, make sure to uncheck *Do not use this card for this purchase* (or something similar).
It will then use the gift card for the purchase.

  • How do I use my credit card on my daughter's Iphoto account?

My daughter made an iphoto book and I want to use my credit card to pay for it - I set up her account with my name as billing address - and her's shipping - the book loads but will not go through - I had the same problem a while ago and ended up with two sets of calendars from trying to get it to go through - any clues?

  • How do i use my debit card to make my purchases on itunes and app store

Why am i not able to use my debit card on app store and itunes

    Hi ..

  • HT5622 I want to use free apps on my Ipad and do NOT wish to submit a credit card to Itunes.  My Apple Id works, but won't let me migrate past the credit card phase in itunes.  I don't wish to sumbit or use a credit card because I will not make purchases.

I want to use free apps on Ipad 2, but it continually asks me to submit a credit card in Itunes.  I do not wish to purchase anything apps or music.  I am only interested in free apps.  If I were to make purchases, I would use a prepaid card like an itunes card or an app card, but NEVER a credit card.  I can't seem to bypass this option of using a credit card and need to.  I have another Ipad 4 and have never needed to use my credit card to migrate past itunes to use any apps.  How do I get past this credit card request and still use my ipad 2.  According to my Ipad 2, if I don't plug in a credit card, I can't even use free apps which is stupid.

You can create an iTune and App Store account without credit card details
    1. Sign out of current Apple ID if you are sign-in to one (important)
    2. Go to App Store and select a free app
    3. Tap INSTALL APP
    4. Create New Apple ID
    5. Confirm Your Country
    6. Agree with Terms and Conditions
    7. Fill in your Apple ID and Password (you must create a new Apple ID; don't use your old Apple ID)
    8. Create and answer your secret question
    9. Select NONE for Payment Method
    10. Fill in Billing Address
    11. Submit application for new Apple ID
    12. Wait for verification email
    13. When email arrive, verify your account
    14. Start downloading your free apps

  • I would like to buy an app but when I do it says there is an account billing problem and it brings me to my billing account but I want to use my iTunes card, how do I fix that

I can't buy or install any apps because it says that I need to fix my billing information but instead I want to use an iTunes card to buy the item I want but it wont let me

If you have a credit card on your account then it has to be a valid card - do you get the 'none' option on your account so that you can remove the card, or is there an error show anywhere on the card payment details screen so that you can correc it ?
As long as you are buying content for yourself and not trying to gift, then your balance should be automatically used for its purchase.
