Using a HH2 as wireless bridge

Help required please, when I've upgraded to Infinity, the HH2 from my ADSL+ was left, can this be used to link my Sony Bravia TV and Blu-ray to my network for streaming / firmware upgrades etc??
Sorry if this has been dealt with before on here, I've looked but not found anything.

A WRT and a E1000 are wireless routers, i.e. router with an integrated wireless access points. They accept client connections. They don't connect to other access points. They always require a wired connection to your main network.
Running a wire is the best solution anyway, in particular for video streaming and similar.

  • Can I use a WRT54GX2 as wireless bridge for my Blue Ray to an E1000 wireless router?

I recently replaced my WRT54GX2 router with an E1000 for networking in my home.  I now have a Blu-Ray disk player, and thought I may be able to use the old WRT54GX2 to wirelessly bridge a network connection for the Blu-Ray.  I am having trouble fignuring out how to configure it, if possible at all.  Any help would be appreciated

  • Using 1231 G for wireless bridge Service

    Hi Forum
I have built up a network in the following fashion .
Connected 1231 G to a 2950 G switch, port 3 is connected to DHCP server. On the Receiving end i have connected one 1121 G to 2950 Switch on port 1 and configured the same in Workgroup Bridge Mode , and i am receiving Ip from any of the ethernet ports of the switch, however when i connect one more access point to the second switch the Access point does not give IP to the clients.
Is it possible to use this kind of setup or else any change is to be done to receive Ip on the clients.

  • Can't I use a WRT610N as a bridge or AP?

Inherited this WRT610N from someone, and want to deploy it in a preexisting LAN (172.21.1.x) with a pre-existing DHCP server.
Can I use the "Internet" port if I assign it static IP on my LAN, and create a new DHCP scope (192.168.1.x) for Wireless clients?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    1. You cannot use the WRT610N as wireless bridge. The WRT won't connect wireless to other access points.
    2. You can set up the WRT the way you have suggested. This will create to separated LANs. Your existing LAN won't be able to access the WRT LAN, but the WRT LAN can access your main LAN.
    3. You can set up the WRT the way you have suggested and turn off NAT on the WRT if your main router is able to NAT additional IP subnets other then its own LAN subnet (i.e. you can tell your main router to NAT 192.168.1.* addresses). WIth NAT disabled on the WRT you have to add a static route for 192.168.1.0/255.255.255.0 to the static IP address of your WRT in your 172.21.1.* network. In addition, computers in your existing LAN should either have the same static route installed or the computers should accept ICMP redirects from your main router. With this setup, the WRT LAN is routed from your main LAN, i.e. computers are able to connect to each other. But it's still a separated broadcast domain which means things like standard Windows workgroup name resolution won't work as that is based on LAN broadcasts.
    4. You can set up the WRT as simple access point and ethernet switch. Leave the internet settings on DHCP. Set a LAN IP address inside your main LAN 172.21.1.*, subnet mask the same as your existing LAN (if possible). Switch off the DHCP server on the WRT. Now connect one of the LAN ports of the WRT to your existing LAN. Do not use the internet port of the WRT. Now you have connected the AP inside the WRT directly into your LAN bypassing all the routing functions of the WRT. You only have a single LAN now and everything can connect to everything else in your LAN.

    Building B
As same as Buiilding A  - All AP (GB C & GB D AP)connect to cisco 2960 switch
For this case, do you have what method for failover solution.
when GB C AP Link is down, data traffic can change to GB D Link to route.
    Is it idea possible?
    Thanks
    John

    Hi John,
See whether below post helps you, where I have posted a sample configuration for load balance traffic across two wireless bridge links.
    https://supportforums.cisco.com/message/4125800#4125800
I doubted you can configure etherchannel across two wireless bridge links. If you configure two independant bridges & pass same vlans then one end switch ports will be get blocked by STP.

  • Using the Mac as a wireless Bridge for the Xbox 360

Want to use your Mac essentially as a wireless adapter for an Xbox 360 or any console? plug in the ethernet cable between the two devices and follow the setup process!
    Wireless Bridge setup process
    1. Open system Preferences.
    2. Clisk sharing, then the internet tab and select Airport as the “share your connection from” then select the Built-in Ethernet in the list.
    3. Open up the terminal Application and type ifconfig en0 in the window it sohuld display an outcome like this
    ifconfig en0
    en0: flags=8863<UP,BROADCAST,SMART,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> mtu 1500
    inet 192.168.2.1 netmask 0xffffff00 broadcast 192.168.2.255
    ether 00:16:cb:cc:80:aa
    media: autoselect status: inactive
    supported media: autoselect 10baseT/UTP <half-duplex> 10baseT/UTP <full-duplex> 10baseT/UTP <full-duplex,hw-loopback> 10baseT/UTP <full-duplex,flow-control> 100baseTX <half-duplex> 100baseTX <full-duplex> 100baseTX <full-duplex,hw-loopback> 100baseTX <full-duplex,flow-control> 1000baseT <full-duplex> 1000baseT <full-duplex,hw-loopback> 1000baseT <full-duplex,flow-control> none
    4. This gives you the information of what your computer’s IP address is. On the xbox dashboard in the network setup screen select manual and select the top section which contains the IP address, subnet mask, and Gateway address, for the IP address, input the Highlighted section above plus one, so its 192.168.2.1 (this is for standard configurations, again, just add one to the last digit of your IP address.
    5. Open Airport Admin Utility, the select configure on your airport. Then select the Internet tab This will give you your subnet Mask, input accordingly.
    6. For the Gateway address, you are going to put in the value in the blue box. This is because you are using your Computer as a gateway, therefor you need to tap into its connection.
So For the Average setup you will use:
    IP Address: 192.168.2.2
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
    Gateway Address: 192.168.2.1
    7. Now for the DNS server, this varies according to What internet service you have, but, Airport admin utility provides the answer, right below the information we used above, you will see DNS Server. viola! Put that in as your primary DNS server in the second box of edit options in the network menu.
Now you should be complete, test the connection and you should be Ready to Go!! Happy Gaming!

    Welcome to the discussions, DanSwiggsD!
If you have a non-Apple device as your main router, unfortunately the AirPort Extreme has almost no chance of compatibility with your main router.
If you do have an Apple router as your main device, please post back with your model number and we'll let you know how your devices should be configured.
If you don't have an Apple device as your main router you have a few options to connect the xbox:
    1) A pair of ethernet powerline adapters could be used if you did not want to run a regular ethernet cable from your main router to the xbox.
    2) The new AirPort Express 802.11n model does have a feature called Proxy STA which should allow it to receive a wireless signal from any wireless router and allow the ethernet port to be enabled.

  • How do i use wrt55ag + wap55ag as a wireless bridge?

i hope this can be done. i've been searching the forums, but don't seem to have found what i'm looking for. i have a wrt55ag v2 w/1.79 firmware. this is connected to the modem for the internet and has the network on this floor connected. i now need to add a network on another floor. there isn't a way to wire it to here. i was under the impression that a wap55ag would do the trick. however after getting it (wap55ag v2 firmware 1.1), i cannot get the two to talk to each other. the wap is using an address withing the router's range. wireless-a settings are the same on both devices. wap is set for static ip addresses. default gateway is set for the ip of the wireless router. i've tried making the ssid the same and different for the devices. still no connection between the two. since i recently purchased the wap, it can go back. so the primary thing would be making the 2nd network connect wirelessly to the wrt55ag.
    any help would be appreciated.
well, you go have fun with that.

hi...if you want to use the AP as a wireless bridge it would only work with another AP...if you want it to use it in wireless repeater mode , it would work with either wrt55ag or wap55ag ..

  • Can you use airport extreme as a bridge to netgear wdnr4500 wireless router

can you use airport extreme as a bridge with a netgear  wndr4500 router.I need to extend my wireless connections to the other side of the house

can you use airport extreme as a bridge with a netgear  wndr4500 router.
This is extremely unlikely. The AirPort Extreme can provide this function with other Apple routers, but as far we know, it is not compatible with products from other manufacturers for this purpose.
Suggest that you use a Netgear product for the best chance of compatibility.

  • Need Help using WRT54GL as Wireless Bridge for Xbox

    Hi.
I need help configuring my WRT54GL as a wireless bridge for my xbox.
I have a Billion BiPAC 7404VGO currently in service as my main router/modem. i.e. I have my ADSL connection and PC connected to this. I also connect to this with a laptop.
I have an original xbox at the other end of the house (cat5 NOT an option).
Basically I want to connect my xbox to the rest of network. I have a WRT54GL I can use for this. I just dont know how to set it up.
The WRT54GL has Firmware Version: v4.30.7 (out of the box).
My Wireless network is using WPA.
I have a VPN setup through to work via the Billion.
The idea is to stream media from my PC to the xbox (media centre).
Any help would be HUGELY appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

A wireless router is a device which requires its own wired internet connection. A wireless router is not a wireless access point like the Linksys WAPs. A wireless router does not connect wireless to other wireless routers/APs with standard Linksys firmware. With Linksys firmware you need a WAP54G or similar. The WAPs support wireless bridging and repeater mode.
If you already have a WRT54GL then you have to install a 3rd party firmware which adds wireless bridging capabilities. Read the wikipedia article on "WRT54G" for information about which WRT models support 3rd party firmware and an overview of projects and links.
Remember, however, that you may brick your router if you install a 3rd party firmware incorrectly and you probably void the warranty if you install 3rd party firmware (it is even possible to find out after you restore the original Linksys firmware if you don't clear the NVRAM before).

  • I need to bridge a printer off a wireless bridge using a 4402 WLAN Controller

I need to bridge a printer off a wireless bridge using a 4402 WLAN Controller.  Would I need to make any changes on the 4402 WLAN Controller?

One options is to take a cisco autonmous access point and configure it as a WGB. And no, you would not have to do anything special to the WLC in thay deisgn. The WGB would act as a wireless client.
    Make sense?

  • Wireless bridge using 802.1N technology

Hope you can help me here folks, I have configured a wireless bridge using 2 x AIR-SAP2602E-E-K9 over a distacne of about 80 metres.
This is working well at speeds up to 54Mb, however I was hoping to reach over 200Mb using 802.1N technology, would appreciate guidance on this.
Attached are the configurations - how do I configure to start using 'N' speeds over the wireless bridge?
    Kind regards
    Dave Bell

Use 5GHz (Radio 1) instead of 2.4GHz (Radio 0) to have better throughput. In that band you can bond two 20MHz channel to give higher throughput.
With the current config since you already have WPA2/AES, no additional config required to enable 802.11n data rates.

  • Connect to sbRIO via Wi-Fi using wireless bridge

    Hi,
I have a sbRIO and I want to connect with it (program and deploy code) wirelessly using wi-fi of my laptop PC. I went through few links but they all use two wireless bridges. I have only one wireless router to which I want to connect IP camera and sbRIO and over the other side use my laptop's wi-fi to connect with sbRIO.
    Regards.

You should be able to do this by plugging your ethernet devices into your router, then joining the wireless network from your laptop. Just make sure that your router is set up so that the wireless and wired networks are on the same subnet. Once you plug the sbRIO and IP camera in, connect to the wifi from your laptop, then to go the router administration screen (usually you just have to type the IP address of the router in your browser and press enter). From there you should be able to see the devices that are physically connected to your router to ensure they are there.
Have you tried this already? If so what problems are you running into?

  • Can I use my Airport Extreme as a wireless bridge?

Can I use my Airport Extreme as a wireless bridge?

When you say "wireless bridge", I assume that you want the AirPort Extreme to receive a wireless signal and provide an Ethernet output, correct?
If you have another Apple router providing your "main" wireless network, the AirPort Extreme could possibly be configured to "Extend a wireless network".
In that setting, the Extreme provides more wireless coverage and Ethernet ports are enabled, so you could connect an Ethernet device that way.
But, the AirPort Extreme cannot do this with a product from another manufacturer.
So, in order to answer your question specifically, can you provide the make and model number of your "main" router?

  • Use airport express as a wireless bridge?

    Hi,
I am wondering if an airport express can be used as a wireless bridge to connect my xbox on my lan?
    Lan description:
dsl modem --> wifi linksys router --> office pc
wifi -- airport express as a client --> audio system
Right now, I use it solely for itune streaming, but I would like to connect my xbox to the ethernet port of the airport express give internet access, possible?

Thank you for replying, I was finding all sorts of confusing information, some said it would work, others said it wouldn't, and I was hoping someone with a little experience would know firsthand
I'm hoping I can take it to work where we have an iMac with Snow Leopard and pre-configure it there to do what I want at home, but if not I'll find a way to make it work, the link might come in handy for me.
I'll report back anything I encounter with a link to my blog, hopefully that will help others out as well.
