Using a ipod with two different computers...

I just bought a new laptop and had to download itunes again but when i hook up my ipod it tells me that that ipod is already synced with another computer (my main desktop comp.). Is there a way to use my ipod with two different computers, or can you just use one computer at a time?
thanks!

You can use more than one computer, but you'll have to load your iPod MANUALLY if you do, otherwise it will keep erasing things to match the library it's hooked up to.

  • Using and iPod with 2 different computers

As a new iPod user, I am looking for some help!
Currently, I use iTunes and my iPod with an external hard disc, where my entire library is stored, and my laptop. Now, I would like to use this hard disc with a second computer as well.
Should I move "iTunes Library.itl" and "iTunes Music Library.xml" from "C" (my laptop's hard disc) to my external hard disc, and then chose the manual synchronisation between iTunes and iPod?
Thanks in advance for the advice!!!

    Hello podwalker,
Should I move "iTunes Library.itl" and "iTunes
Music Library.xml" from "C" (my laptop's hard disc)
to my external hard disc, and then chose the manual
    synchronisation between iTunes and iPod?
Yes, I believe that would be the thing to do. Be sure
to set your manual syncronization for both
    computers.
If you connect your iPod to a new computer (that now
would have iTunes on it), however, it may display
"this iPod is connected to another computer, would
you like to replace the content?". Be sure to click
    on "NO", and not "yes".

    Thanks iPodnano_1GB!
Does someone know if I have to create a folder "My music/iTunes" on my external disc and then copy "iTunes Library.itl" and "iTunes Music Library.xml" documents there? How can iTunes know that "iTunes Library.itl" and "iTunes Music Library.xml" are to be found at this new location?
Is there anything else I should know about this topic?

  • How can i use my iPod on two different computers?

I recently bought a new laptop and i plugged in my ipod shuffle but i cant add any new music to it because it was originally set up on my old laptop. Unlike other ipods, when i plug it back into the old laptop, there is no box to check like "Manually manage" or whatver. Is there any way for me to set up my ipod on my new laptop without restoring it to its original settings and losing all the other music?

If there is no Manually manage music setting, it must be a 1st or 2nd shuffle, not a 3rd or (current) 4th gen shuffle.  The older shuffles act like simple playlists.  You can only associate that shuffle with ONE iTunes library at a time (just as a regular playlist in iTunes belongs only to one iTunes library).
So, the answer is no.  However, you can put the songs on the shuffle currently into the new computer's iTunes library, then sync the shuffle to that library.
For songs that you purchased from the iTunes Store, you can re-download them on the iTunes Store Purchased screen.  You can also use iTunes to transfer songs you purchased from iPod to computer.
For other songs, you cannot use iTunes to transfer song files from iPod to computer.  But there are third-party methods and utilities that can transfer from iPod to computer.  If you do a Google search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links.
Once the song files are on your new computer, add them to the iTunes library by dragging the them (or the folder containing the song files) to the iTunes window.  After confirming everything is there, you can sync the shuffle to the new computer's iTunes library.

How do I use Home Sharing with two different apple accounts?

    Morning Saintine,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
Home Sharing enables you to stream or transfer music, movies, TV shows, apps, and more among up to five authorized computers in your household. To do so, you will need to Turn on Home Sharing on each computer using the same Apple ID.

  • How do I sync two ipods with two different IDs on the same computer?

How do I sync two ipods with two different IDs on the same computer?

Simply connect them.  One computer with one iTunes can manage multiple devices.  They're tracked by S/N but you might wish to assign them unique names so that you can track them yourself.
The only minor issue is app updating and purchases while on the computer.  It's necessary to log out and back in to the "correct" ID.  Much easier to do these things from the iPods.

  • Using iTunes match with two different ID's

I have 1 iMac and need to have two users establish their own iTunes match enviornment.  The iMac has 2 seperate G-raid external drives with each drive having an operating system with a different computer name.  When I use the computer, I boot from g-raid-1.  When my wife uses the computer, she uses g-raid-2.  I was able to setup itunes match on each drive using our sperate ID's.  my wifes config, worked for about an hour.  Mine works fine.  I'm suspecting a mac address capture is preventing what should be a perfectly legit and legal implimentation of apples products from working in a normal way.  It does not make sense to me that I have to go out a buy another iMac, just so that each iTunes match environment will have it's own mac address.  I know i can run a terminal command and change the mac address, or use one dirve via airport and the other via ethernet wire, but perhaps there's a basic issue at play here that has nothing to do with the seperate drive images and seperate user accounts.  any thoughts?  thanks

iTunes Match is associated with one, and only one, iTunes Store Apple ID and country-specific store. The service cannot be shared between Apple IDs.

If we sign up for iTunes with the one account with the majority of the songs, is Home Sharing no longer available to the other two accounts?
Of course it is. iTunes Match has no affect on Home Sharing.
    Indy Apple Guy wrote:
    A.  What happens to the songs on the other two libraries?  Can we never use them?
It is possible to consolidate the tracks from the other iTunes libraries into one and use that for iTunes Match. Make sure the one computer that hosts the library is authorized to play any protected content.
    Indy Apple Guy wrote:
    C.  If we purchase songs/albums while in iTunes Match, and then decide not to use Match in the future, do we lose all our music?
Of course not. Any purchases go to the purchase history for the Apple ID that bought them and as long as the tracks are downloaded and backedup you'll have them as long as you maintain them. Keep in mind that iTunes Match is a service; you don't do anything "in" iTunes Match. It simply "is" in the background.

    D.  If we associate our child's iTouch, will it still keep the parental controls in place so it won't play certain songs that are not appropriate f
Yes, parental controls should continue to work as they have. Although I do not use them, perhaps someone else with experience will weigh in.

  • Playing music from my iPod on two different computers

    hello,
i was wondering how to use/authorize/sync(etc...) my computer at work to play my ipod. when i hook the iPod up to my computer at work, it asks if i want to sync and erase all the songs. obviously i do not want to do that, but merely use my iPod to play music without having to re-create my library at work. is this possible? do i have to rip the music all over again just to play music at work?
    thanks in advance.
    rob

You can't "sync" that is automatically update an iPod from multiple libraries or computers. If you want to connect and use an iPod on more than one computer you need to change the update preference in the iPod Summary tab to "Manually manage music and videos" and click Apply. Do this on your home computer and you'll be able to connect to your work computer without receiving the "Erase & Sync" message..

  • Syncing ipod with two different libraries, same account

I am trying to sync my ipod with all of the old songs from my itunes account i used on our old computer that are already on it, with my new computer's library that i just set up.  I have turned on home sharing and it still won't let me sync it   I keep getting a message that I have to erase all the songs from my ipod in order to put the 11 songs i just purchased on there?  That seems weird and unnecessary!  Please help! thanks!

  • Can I use my Nike+ with 2 Different Computers: my home mac and work PC?

I use my Nike+ with my Nano on my home iMac and track my runs on Nike+.com. Works great. However, I travel for work and will be back on the road next week with my work PC. I don't have itunes loaded on my work PC (not allowed - its not "corporate" software).
So, will my Nike+ and Nano store a week's worth of workouts till I can get home and connect to my home iMac? Is it possible to somehow upload to Nike+.com from my windows PC without loading iTunes?
I want to track all of my workouts, even when I travel.
    Thanks for your help!!

I have the same question. On a regular basis I use my Nike+ with my desktop. However, I travel quite often and run while out of town, and would like to also use my laptop to send my run info to Nike+. I have looked on the Nike+ website and also found no answers. I do not want to sync my music on my laptop to my Nano, only the run info.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

  • Using an external drive with two different computers

(Very new to this) I have a laptop (windows vista) and a desktop (windows xp)and an external drive. I can download songs from cds usings both computers to my itunes library on the external drive. However I cannot access the songs I downloaded using the laptop while on the desktop and visa-versa. I thought that by downloading songs to the external drive I would be able to access them regardless of what component I use. Please help.

You'd have to use the same exact iTunes library file.itl for each PC.
Put the itl file on the external drive, and make sure the exHD is always seen by the operating system before starting iTunes. Also make sure it is always the same drive letter on both Vista and XP.
Then always use the library file on the exHD.
If the exHD isn't plugged in, iTunes will revert to the library fileon the PC's C: drive.

  • Using iPhoto with two different computers AND version

I have 2 macs at my home (laptop and desktop). I have iPhoto 08 on the desktop and iPhoto 09 on my laptop. One day, I accessed my iPhoto library located on my desktop from my laptop via network sharing. I skimmed through the warning messages about the opposing iPhoto versions and was able to view my complete iPhoto library on my laptop. In the process, I now receive the "This library has been modified by a newer version of iPhoto." error on my iPhoto 08 on the desktop. How can I reverse this, so my library is 100% back to normal? It is scaring my mom who uses the desktop for photos.

That is correct - that is what the warning you skimmed through and agreed to go ahead anyway was all about
How can I reverse this, so my library is 100% back to normal?
    Load a backup
It is scaring my mom who uses the desktop for photos.
Nothing to be scared of - your library is safe
but to use it you must restore a backup from before you upgraded the library
Or purchase iLife '09 and load it (with the required OS upgrade if you are not using 10.5.6 or above on that system) on the old system.
Or you can start over and create a new library from the original photos

PS in the future when warned that an operation will modify something and can not be reversed it would be good to stop and fully consider what you are doing prior to proceeding

  • Using library with two different computers

Hello, I have a macbook and an Imac, both core 2 duo. I have my Itunes library on my Imac, and I was wondering if I could share the library wirelessly with the macbook without copying the library to the macbook because I don't have the space on the hard disk.
    Thanks

if you dont care about artwork, itunes, preferences, sharing, click share my library on host machine that has all your data.....look for shared libraries on the client machine
