Using a lower third video file

I have been putting lower thirds on my video without any trouble.  My lower thirds have been jpeg images.  I simple drag them onto the timeline and they lay right over my main video.
My trouble now is, I've just obtained an animated lower third that is not a picture file, but a movie file.  When I lay it on the time line it doesn't lay on top of my main video, but rather blanks it out.
I tried the video merge option, but it leaves some moving black pixels around the lower third image.
How can I lay one video (my lower third video image) over my main video?
Thanks,
Matthew

Hi Matthew,
Sounds like the video doesn't have a transparent background.
What format is the file?  It should be Uncompressed AVI to work well in Premiere Elements.
The video needs to have preserved the transparent Alpha channel.
We have many of these types of lower thirds and motion backgrounds at muvipix.com and I have created many of them myself.
Depending on what format the file is will tell us something that may help.

  • Ideas and Suggestions for Working with Low Res Video Files

    Hi,
A client has asked me to take all of her low res videos she shot with her iPhone and put them on a DVD.
I've made her aware that the end result is not going to be a Hollywood production.  I even did a test for her to show the difference between a low res clip and a HD clip.  You can see these clips here:
    http://designerandpublisher.com/hs/lowrestest.mp4
    and
    http://designerandpublisher.com/hs/hdtest.mp4
She understands and will fix her camera to shoot high-res next time.  Anyway, the footage (330 minutes) I have looks like this when imported into Premiere Pro CS4:
I first just set up a 640x480 timeline and imported one of her clips.  It doesn't look too bad.  I'm not sure why that green bar is there:
Then I went into the timeline's properties to see if I can somehow enhance it once it goes onto a DVD via Encore:
But i'm not really sure if it's worth fiddling around with a customized timeline.  I don't have my hopes up though but I'd appreciate it if anyone could tell me what they did in this type of situation.  It seems like the 640x480 timeline, once brought into Encore and transcoded for the DVD, may work best.
    Any ideas are appreciated.  Thanks.

I don't edit video from a cell phone, and you don't mention any particular problems loading/editing... but in case you do have general problems with any of the files, some reading to keep in mind

  • OT: What viewers do you need to use ALL audio and video files?

I had a lot of trouble with audio and video files on my PC. I
    now have a
MacBook Pro, which is a big improvement. But I still
    frequently
encounter files that I can't use. I try to open them, but
    Apple doesn't
know what to do with them. For example, I often encounter
    unusable
videos while perusing news websites. I also have some audio
    files with
.mva or .mvw extensions that don't work.
So what viwers/players do I need to download in order to be
    able to play
every audio/video file that comes my way? iTunes handles .mp3
    files, and
I also have QuickTime installed. I just viewed another video

installed a Flash plugin. What else do I need to install?
    Thanks.

  • How to use and publish large video files in presenter 7 ?

I am creating video intensive e-learning contents in presenter 7 (updated to 7.05).
I generally, use 2 or 3 flv files (up to 50 MB size) in my presentation.
After I publish my presentation in a web site, users must wait too long for watching any single video.
Is there any method to use large video files (flv or any format) in presenter 7 and users can watch videos without any delay?
    Best regards.

The problem you're facing is that Adobe Presenter output video playback is primarily Progressive Download rather than Streaming.
    Options, for you, include:
    1) Figure out a streaming video solution
    2) Use Adobe Media Encoder to compress/squash your video into more manageable sizes before importing the video into Presenter. I have found a decent compromise is the Web Medium preset as its datarate of 600kbps is just about the most a DSL connection can handle.
    3) Split your videos (instead of 2-3 50MB files, you'd have 4-6 25MB files).

  • Premiere Elements 11 - No audio on playback using MP4 or MOV video files

    Hello,
I've recently started using Premiere Elements for a project I'm working on and I'm learning as I go.
When I'm adding a video that plays audio in another program to Premiere, the audio won't play.
I've checked the audio and audio hardware settings and they both seem fine.  The mixer is not muted and when I publish the file, there is still no audio.
Any help or suggestions are appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Dale

I am assuming that you are working with Photoshop Elements 12 and Premiere Elements 12. On what computer operating system are they running?
Can you open your .avi file in the Elements Organizer 12 and playback the file there and hear audio in the playback?
We have just helped a Premiere Elements user resolve a no sound with .avi file in another thread. Her answer was to update Premiere Elements 12 to 12.1 (See opened project Help Menu/Update.) Why is there no sound on avi files?
The details are in the link cited in my conversions with the user Vickie.
The full video and audio properties of the problem files are needed to evaluate situation such as you describe. In the case of the other user, she was not able to give us anything beyond .avi file. But, fortuately that 12.0 to 12.1 suggestion came to the rescue nonetheless. Bottom line is that, if the 12.0 to 12.1 Update does not resolve your issue, then we will need to go "by the book" and gather file properties, project settings, and the like to try to target the cause of your audio issue. Have you added to this project any narration clips from the program's Narration Tool?
If you create a new project, can you hear the audio from this .avi file in it? Is the problem confined to one .avi file or to any of these .avi files that you import into new or pre-existing projects. Can you hear the audio from non .avi files?
Looking forward to your follow up.
    Thanks.

  • What are people using to convert .3gp video files into something compatible with iMovie? Does Apple have SW to do this?

I am trying to find the best and safest way to convert .3gp video from my Blackberry into a file format that iMovie will recognize.  I see lots of potential downloads, but I am hoping for some recommendations on which SW is most helpful.  Thanks.

There is a free App called MPEG Streamclip from Squared 5. You can drag your .3gp into MPEG Streamclip. Then FILE/EXPORT TO QUICKTIME.
For HD sizes (1280x720 or 1920x1080), choose Apple Intermediate Codec as the Video Codec.
For smaller sizes, you can also use Apple Intermediate Codec, but h.264 will also work and will give a smaller file size.
Then import this new file into iMovie using FILE/IMPORT MOVIES

  • Can any one tell me how to install Ilivid and how to use it. A video file might be more understandable.

Please help me to install Ilivid downloader to my mac. If there is any other good downloader I can use please inform me.

    Klaus,
If you download from http://www.ilivid.com/ then you get a dmg file with the iLivid application and, oddly enough, VLC.
I'm not about to open the application on my machine, however!
To the OP: just download the disk image file, double-click it and it will mount like a disk and drag the iLivid application to your application folder. Do so at your own risk - it just looks fishy to me.

  • Using the audio et video file independantly

Hi, sorry for this newbie question.
I have imported a video clip with its audio file. I would like to be able to replace part of the video clip by some pictures, but without replacing the audio file. Yet, I seem to be unable to move or erase the beginning or the end of the video clip without moving or erasing the equivalent part of the audio clip.
Yes, I have "extracted" the audio file so I can see it indépendantly. But the video and the audio files seem to stay linked. What I am missing?

Hi paslap - welcome to the forum!
What you want to do is called 'paste over at playhead', which is found in the Advanced Menu of imovie.
    Steps:
    1. Probably best to firstly import the photos into the Timeline somewhere - they can be removed later. Select them and copy them (Command-C).
    2. Position the playhead on the video clip where you want the first picture to start.
    3. Go Advanced Menu>Paste Ovr at Playhead.
Now you can trash the photos you placed in the Timeline (placing them there was simply to copy them as one block, making the pasting-over more simple).
This will do the task of extracting the audio where necessary, so if you have already done this, best to undo that.

  • Edges of video seen when using Lower Third

    Hello All,
When I use the lower third, and have the crop wide open on the left and right, I see a sliver of video on the outside of the Lower Third bar. Is there a way to adjust this? Do I need to use a matte and text rather than Lower Third?
    Thank you.
    DG

I thought I'd provide a little follow up. As I was trying to figure out why my STP export wasn't working right, I stumbled into a setting under sequence that led to this problem. My sequence setting was accidently set to NTSC DV 3:2. When I switched to NTSC 4:3, the screen tightened up ever so slightly, and the gap on the edges of the bar disappeared. Also, the resolution of the type and graphics within the Lower Third when from jagged to perfect!

  • What setting do I use to make a self contained video file, not a DVD?

I'm trying to use compressor to create video files to use on a friends Windows PC computer to be displayed from there, but I'm not sure what settings to use. I keep trying different things but I can't seem to get the audio to work. I read another response that the video and audio are saved separately but is there any way of merging them into a "self contained" video file?

SD? HD? Do you need uncompressed (full res)? Can his computer play Quicktime movies? Can his computer play H.264? What format did you shoot, capture, and edit in? What program will the PC use as a player?
The reason there are so many options as presets is because there is no best option. There are many needs for compression. Give more details about your workflow and output needs.

  • How can I apply text position attributes (e.g. lower third) to more than one title at a time?

How can I apply text position attributes (e.g. lower third) to more than one title at a time?

    jhb3243
What version of Premiere Elements are you using and on what computer operating system is it running?
In the case of this theoretical lower third to be applied to more than one title at a time
    a. Is there text in the lower third besides a graphic of some kind?
    b. Are all the titles to which this lower third is to be applied all together on the Timeline or scattered?
If no text in lower third and titles all together, then, with text titles on Video 1 and lower third on Video 2, drag out the lower third to cover the length of the text titles on Video 1.
I do not find "lower third" title files to be in the same category as certain effects where the Copy and "Paste Attributes" or "Paste Effects and Adjustments" lend themselves so well.
Let us see what others have to say about all this. I will continue to experiment with what you seek and how you would prefer to get there. I am not optimistic but I will try.
    Thanks.

  • Lower Third changes brightness of image when played on TV

Hi, I'm a FCP novice editing my 1st short film. It's a documentary and I'm using the Lower Third effect in clips where I interviewed people. I noticed that when I play back the movie from DVD on my home TV, when the Lower Third bar goes away, the brightness of the rest of the image changes. Specifically, it gets darker. Is this normal? Is there something I should do to prevent it?
Unfortunately, I only have an LCD for monitoring during editing, so I don't know if this is a general CRT thing or if it's something weird about my TV. But I don't see this sudden change in brightness on the LCD monitor.

On many TV sets—not monitors, receivers—the video decoder creates luma error (technical term is distortion) from high chroma or high luma values.
Have ever heard a TV set buzz when a bright white or yellow super comes on? That's the luma bleeding over into the audio chassis. Similar distortion issue, one parameter influencing another. You need to check using scopes and not just rely on the safe filter.

  • Getting video files from DVD

Hi. Can I use Quicktime to capture video files from a DVD? If not, how can I do this? Please keep it basic! Many thanks.

Can I use Quicktime to capture video files from a DVD?
QT does not support VOB (muxed MPEG-2 DVD content) files natively. Even with the MPEG-2 component installed, it will not support muxed AC3 audio. The normal approach here is to use an MPEG-based, third party application to extract/convert the VOB content to a more friendly QT compatible compression format. For your purposes, it sounds as if the free HandBrake application may be what you are looking for until you gain more experience in working with these file formats.
