Using a Mac bought in Europe in the US

I have an exchange student coming from Italy to the US. She is bringing a Mac computer. What type of adaptors will she need?  Is there anything besides the actual plug adapter she will need since the voltage is different in the US? I want to make sure she does not damage her new computer when she plugs it in here in the US.   Will the wifi work here too?  Any help appreciated!!

all she needs is the adapter for the electrial outlets,  the voltage auto switches between 110-220 and will do no damage.

UEFI (unified extensible firmware interface) boot requires Global unique identifier Partition Table (GPT) as opposed to the older Master Boot Record (MBR). If your existing drive is formatted in MBR, you will need to adjust BIOS settings to enable legacy boot in order for it to work properly.
Is there a performance difference between GPT and MBR? If GPT is better, I do not mind formatting the drive with it.
    5. No special drivers are needed.
Thanks. What about the thunderbolt port?

Lenovo says 6 hours with the 6-cell battery on its website.

    Hi,
There was a serious BIOS/UEFI problem with that SSD . Perhaps this thread will save you some headaches. Someone is recomending shutting off Rapid Boot in the setup, which would probable mean little with a SSD, anyway.
I read through this, and it looks like the problem was fixed in a BIOS update, which I plan to do. However, it also seems like Intel Rapid Start is not even worth it in the first place, as sleep consumes almost no power at all.

  • HT201343 can you mirror say desktop 2 and still use your mac on desktop 1 with the movie playing on the tv?

I'm interested in Apple TV for the mirroring feature through AirPlay, but will only purchase if I can still use my mac as normal whilst i'm watching what is being mirrored on the tv. Is this possible in any way? like possibly having the movie playing on desktop 2 and mirroring that and still use the mac with the other desktops to browse the internet etc?

No, AirParrot isn't a solution for dexta,
AirParrot gives mirroring function to older computer that are unsupported by the Apple's mirrorring function.  Dexta is looking to extend is display which isn't a feature of AirParrot.
AppleTV will only gives you direct access to some web content using the builtin features like YouTube, Netflix, etc.  If you are looking for unsupported access to other website without using mirroring, then the AppleTV isn't the best hardware to answer your need.

  • Can I use my iPhone 5S in Europe with the global services?  Am I exposed to extra roaming charges?

I am also traveling in the middle of a billing cycle.  Can I change my billing cycle to avoid this?

Yes you can use the 5S in Europe.  It is all roaming charges and expensive.   You can't change your billing cycle, though I am not sure why you want to Change it.  Check out Verizon global information to know rates in each country you are visiting.   Just so you are clear WARNING WARNING.  If you do not know what you are doing and use your phone in foreign countries, including all the countries of Europe, you can rack up tens of thousands (YES greater than $10,000) with very little effort.  Unless you know what you are doing, put the phone in airplane mode, and only then turn wifi on only.

  • Can I use my mac book in europe?

    Hello,
I´m living in USA temporary, as I´m from spain and will return home in 6 months. I´m thinking of buying a mac book here, but I don´t know if I´ll have problems to use it in my country (spain).
    Can anyone help me?
    Thank you!

    Hello MINAMAMA,
I am not positive if I understand exactly what you mean, but I will do my best to help. You should have no problems what-so-ever once you move back. Your MacBook will work exactly the same in Spain as in the United States. You can even buy an AppleCare Protection plan for the MacBook, and if anything goes wrong with the computer, the AppleCare Protection will help you fix, or find out what to do about any problems you should have. However, as far as switching countries goes - Your MacBook is not going to realize you changed countries. With the Airport Wireless, you can pick up any wireless internet connection, as long as its not secure or you have the secure password. So, you could get wireless internet in Spain, and you are good to go again. I hope this helped.
DON'T FORGET TO MARK AS HELPFUL, OR SOLVED!! PLEASE.

  • Using PIXMA 925 bought in Germany in the U.S.

    Hello,
I bought a PIXMA 925 in Germany because I saw there were compatible U.S. cartridges cli-551/cli-251. However, my printer will not recognize the cli-251 cartridges. Is there a region setting in setup?
    Thanks,
    Joe

Verizon is NOT a GSM network and does not use SIM cards at all.
Your GSM iphone will not work with Verizon's CDMA network at all.

  • When I click on a link in an email, nothing happens; Firefox used to open the page. I am using a Mac computer, latest OS, and the Mac mail program.

I have tried quiting Firefox and setting Safari to my default browser. Links open on Safari just fine. When I go back to Firefox as my default, I continue to have the same issue, links will not open in Firefox.

You can also quit and relaunch Firefox and then
the link will open in mac mail.

  • Using a mac and a pc in the same case

I realize that this is probably not the best category for this but I am going to put it in here anyways. I run a mac at home, and a pc at work. I recently needed to bring work home when I realized that I needed to run a PC only application. As the week went on, I had to start bringing my PC CPU so that I could finish the work at home. I wanted to know if it was possible to put a mac hard drive and a pc hard drive (and the motherboards and all the other parts) into the same case. Also, if it is possible, I would like to know where I could buy the parts online. Thank You

You can buy separate components for a Windows only PC, but buy the time you do that and cram them into a case with Mac components, why not just buy a new iMac and get the best of both worlds? If you're on a budget, buy a Mac mini instead. Unless you do a lot of serious research and understand computer hardware well, you are not likely to build a better PC than you can buy off the shelf for less money.
You can install Boot Camp on the iMac and than Windows XP. Note though that you will need a full copy of Windows XP SP 2. A copy that came with another computer will not work; it has to be a fully licensed copy.
Just stop by any store in your area that sells Macs to see what your options are.

  • Using US Mac Pro in Europe (voltage issue)

    Hi,
I have a brandnew 8-core Mac Pro and an Eizo monitor. We might move to Switzerland later this year, and I would have to run my Mac and the monitor at 230 volts. Are power converters safe?? Any suggestions of brands?
    Thanks
    Anne

The Mac Pro doesn't need a power converter, just a different power cord or plug adapter. Look for a label on the back of the Elzo to see if it has a voltage switch, or will work as is.

  • I'm using a Mac, using OS 10.4.11 and I'm trying to save a downloaded .pdf file in Firefox 3.6.10, what's the easiest way to accomplish that?

I downloaded a file from Apple, Support and it downloaded as a .pdf file.(http://support.apple.com/manuals/#powermac - item # 38 (4th page 8th item down).
I want to cut & paste that .pdf into an AppleWorks 6.2.9 word processing document. Using the select All option, so as to highlight the material on the page - I'm not allowed this option(it doesn't do it, thus I can't copy the document and paste it. It's a 7 MB download.
http://support.apple.com/kb/HE39?viewlocale=en_US " How to Download Product Manuals (PDF files) states that:
    Using a Mac with Firefox:
    1) Click the manual you want to download. Firefox will ask if you want to open or save the document.
    2) Choose Save and select a location to save the manual.
The option/process 1) didn't take place - It simply went directly to the window showing that the download was taking place and that window shows what is being D/L and a progress bar.
In the preference options -->General I have selected "Save files to: Desktop". I have not selected /√ "Show the Downloads window when downloading a file", however, that is exactly what happens.
Thanks for any assistance that you can provide.

As you have a Power Mac you also have a alternative option to consider which is a third-party build from http://tenfourfox.blogspot.com/2011/08/601-now-available.html

  • New drive -  can i not use on mac and windows?

A year ago i bought a usb 2 wd external drive which i formatted on windows so that i could use it on both mac and osx - No probs.
I now have a seagate 750gb firewire 400 drive (thats formatted to NT) i want to do the same as i did with the usb2 0 ie format on windows so that i can use on mac and xp.
In the seagate manual it says that swapping data between windows and osx is BAD and YOU WILL LOSE DATA if you do this (it says i need madrive - but what if i want to get data of a college drive, or someone who doesnt want macdrive installed?)- is this manual statement true? i havent lost any data between my usb2 drive in the year ive had it!
Also, formatting the seagate drive to ms-dos file system on mac - this makes it mac only doesnt it?

    Hi,
I do the same with my two WD externals.
You would need MacDrive if you want to use the NTFS (NT filse system) with the Seagate.
But if you choose FAT32 (that's what OSX calls MS-DOS) you don't need any kind of extra software to access (read/write) it from both Mac and PC.
One minor issue with FAT32 (MS-DOS) is, that the file size of a single file is limited to 4GB.

  • Using a MAC to fill out PC Created PDF forms creating problems

We have created a number of forms using LiveCycle to be filled out by clients.  They include submit buttons that send the form back as a PDF (rather than a data file).  The forms were then opened in  Acrobat 8 Professional and usage rights enabled to allow the clients to save a copy of the completed form.
They work great...unless the client is using a MAC.  We have encountered the following problems with MAC filled forms:
    1) client entered data is present but only visible when the field is clicked on
    2) the Print and Submit by E-mail buttons do not work for MAC users
    3) the tabbing order is inconsistent
Any ideas of ways we can make our forms more compatible for MAC users??
    Many Thanks!

    Hi Rod,
Sorry I replied a few days ago, but for some reason it didn't seem to get added to the thread.  So, here we go again ...
The "fix field" script worked great for me.  So, we have been using that solution when needed.  Unfortunately, I am not enough of an expert on these things to provide an intelligent answer as to why it may not be working for you.
But, it also became evident from dialogue and testing that the issue only occurs when recipients use MAC Preview to complete the forms.  So, on some forms I have just added a note saying - MAC Users: Please complete the form using Adobe Reader.  As this is, of course, free software, which most people already have installed on their computer, this seems to prevent the problem from occurring as well.
Hope that is at least a little bit helpful.

  • Display is using my Mac's camera... not its own!

So I've got a new 24" LED cinema display and everything is connected properly. However, for some reason, whenever I go to use the iSight camera, it uses my Mac's camera instead of the display's! The USB cord is connected and everything! Ideas? Thanks.

In ichat go into preferences, then go to camera. You will be able to change which camera you want to view (either display or macbook pro). For photo both just click the camera in the menu bar. You will have the same choices as ichat. If neither of these show up restart your computer while being plugged into the your screen.
    Hello, Tylko
For clarity to OP and other readers, I offer the following regarding this part of your suggestion:
For photo both ... You will have the same choices as ichat.
That is not true on my Mac.
My Photo Booth ONLY uses the first connected camera it recognizes that is not already in use. Clicking the camera in the my Photo Booth menu bar when multiple cameras are connected results in NO DIFFERENCE from the same action when only one camera is detected.
Even when multiple cameras that work properly with other apps are connected, Photo Booth does not allow a camera choice on my PowerMac G5 no matter where I click.
While it is true that iChat offers a choice of cameras, if what you post is true, there is a major difference between your Photo Booth for iNtel Mac and the Photo Booth that runs on my PowerPC Mac.
