Using a Macbook and FCE 4

I searched the forums and could not find an answer to this. I have a new Macbook 2.4 with 4 gigs of Ram. Can I use FCE 4 on this machine? Or am I limited to iMovie?

I have a MacBook with 2GB of ram, and Final Cut Express 4.0 runs alright on it. I haven't done much with it yet, just going through the initial learning process.

  • Using iweb/MacBook and connecting wirelessly to internet in remote China

Ok this is a long shot.......
I need to be able to update my website www.greatwalltrek.info whilst in remote areas of China using a MacBook whilst I'm fundraising for charity. I have been told that with a CDMA card I will get access from most places that I will be travelling. I realise that this will likely be a slow connection but would it be sufficient to at least update text sections of the webpage (i.e. diary notes)??
I haven't been able to work out who the best providers of CDMA in China are. Anyone with some local/technical knowledge that can help? Also, will a CDMA card work in a MacBook??
I know that I can use a satellite modem but the cost is approximately $7 per MB and 256K streaming is $20 per minute.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Even if you somehow decide this might be feasible (I would not think it so myself), I strongly recommend you have a non-iWeb Plan B that involves minimal bandwidth and time requirements.

  • Can two accounts just use one macbook and one iphone.error occurred talking to the iTunes store

I have two accounts(A and B), of course I just use one iphone and one macbook.
    but now ,the problem is,
the account A can use xcode organizer to upload App,
and the account B can't upload in the same MAC and Xcode,
the error message is: error occurred talking to the iTunes store
and the console print:  *** Error: An error occurred while deserializing the JSON request.  Error Message - Invalid JSON character read at index 0
(of course if I change from account B to A, upload success)
it cotinue for three days, of course there are many people have the same problem.
must I buy another iphone ,another macbook, and install another xcode
    I am so sad.
    thank you

the problem is ,  .ipa can't  upload by(in) account B
I think the bug can be two possible list blow
          1.  the .ipa  is wrong
          2.  the account(B) is wrong.
    if   the .ipa is wrong
the .ipa can't upload  by any account (account A  or  account B,  just change the identifier and the sigh identity)
but if the .ipa can upload success by  account A,
so , the .ipa(program) is right.
then, there is exist only one possible,   the account (B) is wrong,
K T , do you thine my logic for this problem is right

  • Using iTunes, MacBook and the external HDD.

Hi there, however much I love iTunes, I absolutely despize the lack of function when it comes to splitting the music library between my MacBook and an external HDD.
I have a rather large Library and it is a real issue when using a HDD limited MacBook.
Why is there no simple function to allow a user to pass data back and forth between these?
iMovie has a very simple and wonderfully easy to use 'drag n drop' function which allows a user to move video between any or multiple external HDD and the HDD on the MacBook.
When connected, the media on the HDD is available to use in iMovie. When it is not connected, only the media on the MacBooks HDD is available.
Would it be conceivable to adopt a similar system whereby iTunes would 'show' an external HDD and allow a user to drag and drop media straight over?
Now THAT would be amazing! Please, it is terribly limiting and self-defeating to have a portable device without being able to EASILY move ones media from a 'home' based large external HDD and the more versatile, smaller portable MacBook HDD.
iMovie does it, can you adapt iTunes to do the same?
    Yours,

click here and here for information.
    also, peruse this user tip:
    In iTunes 9.
    iTunes prefs -> Advanced.
Set the iTunes media folder location to the external.
Then select the movie files (or any files in iTunes) and right click Consolidate.
This will copy only the movies to the external location.
After it finishes, iTunes prefs -> Advanced and set the iTunes media folder location back to the internal. This will tell iTunes to use the internal drive for new files.
You can then delete the movies from \Music\iTunes\ on the internal to free up space.
To copy a movie back to the internal, simply right click - Consolidate (since you pointed iTunes back to the internal).
just edit these instructions to meet your needs.

  • Using a MacBook and saving my neck at the same time

I recently bought a MacBook Air with a 13" screen. It is my primary computer. I write a lot as part of my job, and I do a lot of this writing at home. This new MacBook is great, but it is destroying my neck. To get my head level with the screen, I slouch. I sit on the edge of the chair and lean back. The angle of my neck gets uncomfortable. The alternative is to sit straight up and crane my head and neck down, but this is not much better.
How can I make this MacBook friendlier to my spine? I could buy a new, larger monitor and position it level with my head, but I think it might be distracting to have two identical monitors in front of me, one little one and one big one. But maybe there is an easy way to *temporarily* turn off the screen when I have the MacBook connected to an external monitor? (Obviously, I don't know a lot about computers.)
A cheaper option might be to buy a wireless keyboard, wireless trackpad and/or wireless mouse, and put the MacBook up on a stand so the 13" screen is level with my head.
Can anyone suggest which way I should go here?

Actually I'm using this solution right now bit I'd like that when I type on the QWERTY keyboard, the Mac uses automatically the right layout and then, when I type with the AZERTY keyboard, it switches automatically to the other layout.
Maybe there is an app for that? :-)

  • How do I get my numbers spreadsheet changes to automatically update idisk version to use on macbook and vice versa without manually doing it?

I am a relatively new APPLE type of guy.
I have a fancy new MACBOOK Pro and a fancy new IPHONE.
I've left the Micosoft world and have decided to embrace iWork.
Was happy to see app release of iwork for iphone - purchased it - and even though spreadsheets on a tiny phone are a bit tough to get used to - i've decided to keep track of my gym work outs on the phone.
So I set up a work-out spreadsheet on my mac - threw it it idisk - and sucked it into numbers on the phone.
    So far so good.
Can't seem to figure out though how to have my iphone and mac syncing with any changes to the spreadsheet i make at either end.  I have a copy on idisk - and when i save a change on the macbook the change is made to the idisk file - cool - but i can't figure out how when i'm at the gym entering new data - to have that info automatically updating the idisk version.
    any ideas?
or am I just a dumb jock thinking that all of this is actually possible with out me continually bringing in new versions of the spreadsheet from idisk into the numbers version on the iphone?
    thanks in advance

  • I am using a MacBook and want to back up my data onto an external device.  Does anyone know which I should use?

Can someone please suggest a backup storage unit that would go well with a MacBook?

Pretty much an well-known USB or Firewire external drive.  If you want bootable clones, Western Digital hard-drives are known to have occasional problems.

  • How can I delete music off a device using MacBook and iTunes?

How can I remove music from my iPod and iPhone using a MacBook and iTunes. When I highlight the songs on the device listed on iTunes on my MacBook and then delete them, they don't go away.

On your iPod or iPhone, swipe across the music listing and tap the red delete button that appears.

  • Syncing macbook and network drive

ok here it goes, I have a macbook, i also have a dell desktop. i take a large volume of photos and have a large amount already. My macbook hd isn't big enough to hold everything I want as well as all my photos. So I have an external hd. now, i use my macbook and pc for photos, and i'd like all my photos on my external hd and on my pc, but i don't want to have to copy them from my camera on to my mac then onto my pc. so i'm looking for a way of syncing my external hd with a shared folder on the pc. i'm happy to always copy photos from my camera onto the external hd via my mac, but would like a way of automatically syncing this hd (obviously while still connected to my mac) with the networked windows folder.. (thought of automator??)... having it copy any new files from the folder on the pc to the external hd would be a massive bonus..
    any suggestions please??!!
    hope i've made sense.

  • MBP and FCE

    Hi gang:
I will be purchasing a new MBP. The only heavy graphics use I anticipate will be editing a large (50 minute) project with FCE 4.
I know the i5 will be sufficient for this (a helluva lot better than my powermac g5 which I currently use), but am wondering if I will be wishing I had gone with the i7? My sense is that the i7 is the way to go if I'm editing the project while downloading Avatar while scrolling photos while watching TED lectures online. Which I will never do (I'm not so good at multi-tasking). But, I could be wrong.
I've ruled out the core 2 duo, but perhaps that was premature??? If anyone has faced a similar decision, I'd love to hear what you've chosen/are choosing and the pros/cons associated with the choice.
    Many thanks.

I too have have the same problem as you, however, I will be using After Effects and FCE, and I tried it on a friends mac with i5 processor 2.4ghz, and it ran perfectly. You were right to rule out the Core 2 Duo, it does not run FCE very well at all. The i7 doesnt have THAT much of a power difference to the i5 for the price difference, I would advise you to get the i5.
    Hope this helps

  • Internet access for new MacBook and old iMac

I put part of this question under "Using your MacBook" and have received what may be the answer to connecting my new MacBook with my old G3 iMac. But as I was describing that situation, something else occurred to me.
Is it possible to connect both an AirPort station, allowing me to use the MacBook anywhere in the house, and my iMac to the same cable modem, which of course has a single Ethernet port? Is there some sort of Y-connector or router that I need to do that? Or maybe that's breaking the rules of my ISP -- I'm using a Comcast connection to access Earthlink and .Mac.
    Thanks for any advice.

Yes, that is how a combined wired/wireless router works, you have 3 wired ports on the Airport Extreme Base Station, and can also use wireless Airport simultaneously. you hook the incoming Ethernet source from the cable modem to the router. Linksys, Netgear, D-Link all make similar wired/wireless routers that are compatible with PC and Mac, with different features, number of ports, max number of wireless connections, etc. The Airport works great and comes with a Mac OS X configuration utility Airport Utility that makes configuring it fairly easy. You can make the wireless network private, password protected, and encrypted for security of your network.

  • I have installed FCE on my macbook and on my desktop. Then I accidentally migrated FCE from the desktop to the macbook. Now each time I launch FCE on the macbook it asks for the product serial number. How can I stop this happening?

I installed Final Cut Epxress 4 on my laptop and my macbook and then accidentally also migrated FCE from the desktop to the macbook. Now each time I launch FCE on the macbook it asks for the software serial number. I enter the number which is then rejetced as it's already been used twice. FCE launches anyway as the licence info had already been written to my hard drive when I first installed FCE. How can I stop it asking for the serial nmber every time I open FCE?

You need to uninstall FCE from you Macbook and then reinstall it.
If you are not familiar with the process, FCS Remover is an app that can uninstall FCE for you.

  • Backup of MacBook using Airport Express and File Sharing

I have an iMac backed up (500GB internal drive) using Time Machine to a Western Digital external drive (1TB) via Firewire; I also have second external drive (500GB) for FCE and Photoshop use. I'm about to buy a MacBook (160GB drive) for my wife, and an Airport Express (connected via cable modem) to give her wireless access to the internet and wireless access to our printer. My first thought was to get the Airport Extreme and try wireless backups for both the iMac and MacBook using Time Machine and connecting the backup drive as an Airdisk. However, I've also been reading about the slow performance and iffy future Apple support for this arrangement.
Well, that's the windup -- here's the question. Is it feasible for me to just use filesharing in my iMac to have the MacBook work files (and folders) saved directly in the iMac public folder? The rationale is that I would change nothing in my current IMac/backup drive configuration. The iMac acts as a wireless network fileserver for the MacBook. The MacBook work files would then automatically get backed up as part of the iMac backups. There would be minimal network use for file use and storage between the two computers because only work files from the MacBook will get saved on the iMac.
Do I have this right, or am I missing something?

Sure. This is not supported by Time Machine but you could open/save the files directly from the Finder or application in use.
OR you could use Time Machine to make a backup of the MacBook to the 1 TB external drive connected to the iMac. That is the scenario I use with my iBook and iMac.
