Using a MacBook in Europe.

What do I need if I want to use my MacBook in Europe?

Hi. The power brick on my MacBook indicates 100 to 240 volts and 50 or 60 hz so it should be universal. Only thing you'll need then is an adaptor that converts the plug ends to whatever socket you need to plug into. You can buy adaptors anywhere for cheap and I've seen kits that come with several standard European adaptors in a little zippered travel case. Have a look at your power brick and see if it indicates the same voltage ranges. Cheers!

  • Do I need a transformer to use my macbook in europe?

I have a Macbook bought new in spring of 2008, with a 60 W magsafe power adapter.  It was bought in the USA and I've always used 110 AC to power it.
I'm traveling to France, where power is 220 volts.  It sounds like the magsafe power adapter automatically switches between 110 and 220.  Is this true?  In this case, all I would need is the correct plug adapter, but would not need a transformer?
    Thanks!

Hi William: Indeed it is true, the power adapter is capable of working with voltages from 100 - 240. You will need a plug adapter only.

how do I use my macbook pro in europe?

buy a socket adapter that is for the country you're planning on visiting and plug it in...
your macbook works without buying a transformer since it's rated for 110 to 240 volts...

  • Using a Macbook by -30 degrees Celcius (-22 degrees Fahrenheit)

    Hi,
I will be part of an arctic expedition in Baffin Island during march and april 2007. We are planning to send data back to our HQ in europe through the INMARSAT broadband system. For that purpose we need to operate a laptop at very extreme temperature (-30 degrees Celcius or -22 degrees Fahrenheit), and I was wondering if it would be possible to use a Macbook in those conditions. Will it fail to work properly?
    Many thanks,

These are the stated requirements for a MacBook.
    Electrical and environmental requirements
    Meets ENERGY STAR requirements
    Line voltage: 100-240V AC
    Frequency: 50Hz to 60Hz
    Operating temperature: 50° to 95° F (10° to 35° C)
    Storage temperature: -13° to 113° F (-24° to 45° C)
Relative humidity: 0% to 90% noncondensing
    Maximum operating altitude: 10,000 feet
    Maximum storage altitude: 15,000 feet
    Maximum shipping altitude: 35,000 feet
You will have to have some provision for heating the electronics up to enable extreme usage. There are numererous ways to do this. You might also want to discuss your plans with Apple engineering in Cupertino. They might have some ideas.
This may help you get pointed in the right direction also.

I have 2 Macbooks each with an account for me and one for my wife. I use one Macbook logged in with my account and my wife uses the other Macbook only logged in on her account. We both make regular time-machine back-ups each on a separate external disk. Is it possible to update her account on my macbook using her external disk without overwriting my stuff on the same Macbook and vice versa?

Time Machine does not do individual accounts. It records the complete drive. So if you were to use her TM backup on your Mac it would make your Mac just like hers. Both yours and her account on your MAC.
Just copy the missing files over from her Mac to yours. If there are differennt programs on each then they would need to be installed on both.

Yes, but you must update to OS X Mavericks using the Mac App Store. When you do, you will see this icon in the menubar:
I hope I solved your question.

  • TS4055 How do I use my MacBook Air to access the Amazon Web Service?

How do I use my MacBook Air to access AWS (Amazon web Service)?  The information provided to me by Apple Care seems to be about allowing outside access to my MacBook.

Sorry, but does this relate to Apple Remote Desktop, Apple's software for managing networked Macs, in some way? If so, how are you using ARD in relation to Amazon's services?

I have a gmail video/audio chat account and would like to use my Macbook Pro as my communication device. I cann't seem to get the video portion going. Anyidea?

You could use Elgato Systems' EyeTV product to view external video sources on your MBP.
There is additional cost involved, but it would achive what you want. You can buy the Hybrid product, and connect your external DVD player via Composite (red, white and yellow connectors) to your MBP via the EyeTV.

  • How do I put an external display to sleep when I am using my MacBook Air for presentation?

How do I put an external display to sleep when I am using my MacBook Air for presentation? I do not want to go to the projector just to turn it off and turn on again after a while? Is there a keyboard shortcut for that?

I want to be able to sleep the external display and at the same time do things in the MacBook.( This feature is useful for me so that I can prepare some things and so that my audience will not see what I am about to show them.)
Is there a feature for Mountain Lion?

  • How do I use my macbook pro lid closed

How do I use my macbook pro lid closed?

Well what i'm trying to do is keep file sharing on while macBook is closed so i can access files through "newtwok" (Back to my mac) with my imac...
Ideally i would then control my macBook with screen sharing on my imac while the MacBook is stored behind my iMac...
Somehow it worked before but now it stopped...and everytime i close the lid ..mac book pro goes black screen and completly disconnects from the newtwork...
Everything works fine with lid open..
I am trying to do this because i have a new imac with thunderbold and an older macbook pro with mini display port..and as you might already know...you canot connect these thow devices using thunderbolt cable...which really *****....there is also no adaport enabling this...and i really dont need to buy another mac book that just has one more hole in it >.<
Anyway..hope there is a solution somewhere to keep file sharing going while lid down..

  • How do I use my Macbook as external CD drive for a friend?p

My friend wants to install Leopard on his Macbook G4 OS X 10.5.2, but his CD drive will spit any CD out. Is there a way I can use my Macbook Late 08 as an external CD drive, by making a network with his?
Before that, would it work to just make a disk image of the installation CD and transferring it to his computer?
    Thanks,
    Sergio

My friend wants to install Leopard on his Macbook G4 OS X 10.5.2,
Leopard is OS X 10.5. Do you mean Snow Leopard?
but his CD drive will spit any CD out. Is there a way I can use my Macbook Late 08 as an external CD drive, by making a network with his?
There is a way to do network sharing of media. See here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1131
Before that, would it work to just make a disk image of the installation CD and transferring it to his computer?
This will not work, because he would have to boot from his hard drive to mount the image, and he could not then install a new OS on his hard drive.
Has your friend priced out repairing his drive? If he ever has to do any kind of troubleshooting, it is crucial to be able to boot from the OS install disc.

  • How Do I Use my MacBook Pro to Watch a DVD From External DVD Player

    Hello Everyone!
While waiting for Apple TV to become available in my place of work, I want to use my MacBook Pro monitor for watching a DVD movie played on an external DVD player. The DVD player I have is an LPC-D1000, which is a new model. While Mac has its own DVD player, I'm trying to make use of my LG DVD player. If that's possible, please guide me on how to do it.
    Thank you.
