Using a movie file as webcam.

I have a friend who is a great fan of the movie `The Ring,'
I was thinking a nice joke, to play the cursed video as webcam in a Skype call.
In other words I'd like to make a video call using as input not a real webcam, but a movie file (the audio does not matter).
It is possible somewhat? Like convincing mplayer to use a device as output?
Thanks.

That's the virtual word absolutely )) It's not so easy, but why is it good for him to see it on skype instead of won pc ?

  • Can you use QT mov. files on ipod

is it possible to use quicktime mov. files on ipod, i have them in my itunes but am wondering if this is possible,
    thankyou

You seem to be confusing the file format (.mov) with its content (compression format). If the .mov file does not contain a format compatible with your iPod, then you must convert it to a compatible format. The specifics for this conversion depend on the specific format present in your source file, what system you are using, and the software you have available, are willing to download, or purchase.
For instance, let's say you have a .mov file which contains a "muxed" MPEG1 movie. If you have a Mac, you could use the free iSquint application to turn it into an iPod compatible movie. On the other hand, Windows users could use the free Videora iPod Converter to do the same thing.
Use your QT Player "Show Movie Info" window to determine in which format your source file is actually enconded and go from there.

  • How do I use m2ts movie file format from my old pc with FCP on my mac?

I have recently moved from a PC to a iMac. I have a large number of Sony AVCHD movie files, which were imported to my PC and are in the m2ts file format on my PC. The original files on my Sony camera were deleted so these files are now all I have. Also, for each movie clip on my PC there are 3 files....a very large m2ts file along..... with two very small file....one is a .modd file and the other a .moff file.
I now want to use these m2ts files (and if needed possibly these other two smaller files) on my Mac make movies with either iMovie or Final Cut Pro. and don't know how to import them or convert them for use on my Mac. Can anyone help?
One final question. Can FCP author DVD's or is separate software required. Apple has discontinued iDVD for iMovie (which I find rediculous) and so I'm worried they don't support making DVD's with FCP.
    Thanks

Although I don't use Toast I know lots of people who do and like it for a variety of purposes; for example, many people author in DVDSP and burn disks using Toast. But there are a lot of versions and they have differing features and capability. Do a search in these (or iDVD) forums you'll find plenty of info. Don't know about the other app. Again, if you ask Apple, they may come through with iDVD…they have for others.
Clipwrap quality limitations? Try the trial and test the results for yourself. As far as I know the trial is fully freatured but there is a one minute clip limitation (which doesn't apply to the paid version).
    Good luck.

  • Problems using multi mov files in one AE screen

I've imported three mov files and have created them on three separate layers in my AE comp screen. When I press to preview the files they play but only for about 3 seconds. I need them to play the full length of the mov files which is about 15 seconds.

As Klaus said, we need to know a lot more. If they are HD files and you are trying to preview at full res, on a system with not much RAM, this could be perfectly normal. Provide system infe, tell us what version of AE and then all the other details like comp settings, footage used and so on.

  • Only imports audio, no video when using DSLR .mov files

I just upgraded to CS6 on my Mac Lion. I created a project using the DSLR settings and tried to import a .mov video clip taken from my Canon 5D camera. Strange thing is it only imported the audio and not the video. I tried many of clips and just audio.
As tests, I tried importing a .mpeg clip from an HDV camcorder and it worked fine. I also changed the extension of the DSLR clip to .mpeg and it still didn't work. The DSLR clips imported fine in CS4, but not CS6. Also as another test, I tried importing on a different Mac computer using Premiere Pro CS6 (from creative cloud) and it imported perfectly. So I'm not sure why it's doing it on my computer? The files open fine in QuickTime.
The only thing that worked was I exported the .Mov files from the DSLR to a HDV .Mov file and it DID import correctly. I don't want to have to go through that step everytime though (or loss the quality)
Any ideas why this is happening? Thanks

I too am having this problem.  The video I am trying to import is a .MOV file from a Canon 5D Mark III.  When I check the properties of the file in Premiere Pro 5.5, this is what it says:
    File Path: S:\Photos\5D mark 3\Video\0F2A0089
    Type: QuickTime Movie
    File Size: 55.7 MB

Project Audio Format: 48000 Hz - 32 bit floating point - Stereo

Average Data Rate: 3.7 MB / second
    QuickTime Details:

There are 453 frames with a duration of 1/29.97th.
    Video track 1:

Average frame rate is 29.91 fps
Video track 1 contains 1 type(s) of video data:
    Video data block #1:

Timecode track 1 contains 1 type(s) of data:
    Timecode data block #1:

As you can see PP 5.5 notices the video; it even tells me the # of frames in the video but it won't display it. It might be worth saying the video files from my Canon XF100 work just fine.  This is extremely frustrating.  Any help would be very much appreciated.

  • Best codec to use to encode MOV files? H.264?

Adobe Premiere CS5 beginner here, though I have used earlier versions of Premiere Elements quite a bit.
I'm trying to export video clips for web viewing. These clips must be in MOV format (i.e. no mp4, flv, etc). Some of them are high-motion and I'd like the best possible quality with reasonable filesize, but not sure what codecs offered by Premiere are best. I tried using the Quicktime H.264 codec, but the control panel options are limited (no options for 2-pass VBR, setting min/max bitrates, etc) and honestly the result was surprisingly blocky.
Is there a way to expand the control panel for Quicktime H.264? Or is there a preferable QT codec offered in CS5? Any help would be much appreciated...

Because the gallery software I'm currently using presents MOV files much better than the other formats. I'll be changing this in the future, but for now MOV is what I've got to work with.

  • Mov files with Alpha channel

I do alot of video with transparent (Alpha Channel) backgrounds.  I have always converted my avi files to flv files for the web without any issue.  Now I am being asked to put my video onto iPads, iPhones etc.  They won't accept flv files & I read that I can use QuickTime mov files to create an alpha channel.  I have tried several ways to install a mov file (with Alpha) using dreamweaver onto an existing webpage but it always ads a black background with the video.  I have tried the  wmode - transparent option but doesn't do anything.  I know the mov file I am using does have the alpha channel attached because I can bring it back into my rendering program and see it fine.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    What is up!
Based on my tests, it appears that the Mavericks embedded QT structure no longer considers many of the legacy compression formats to be supported under Mavericks. These formats were, by default, turned off under Lion and Mountain Lion which may indicate that Apple intends to drop even passive native support sometime in the future. Files containing Animation or PNG compressed data are no longer QL compatible and now force automatic QT X v10.3 conversion as mentioned above. Even worse, it appears other commonly used fomats like DV/DV in DV and AIC/PCM in MOV are also being relegated to this group. Luckily, DV/PCM in MOV, HDV/PCM in MOV, and ProRes422/PCM in MOV, along with all of my H.264/AAC/AC3/Chapter M4V distribution/iTunes managed files remain fully compatible with both QL and QT X v10.3 under Maverisks. This last is significant for me since many files containing AC3 as the primary audio stream are no longer QL/QT X v10.3 compatible with certain file extensions and/or container types which now appear to be checked in specific situations. Unfortunatly, what we've seen and learned thus far seems to be just the "tip of the iceberge."

  • Adobe Premier Pro CS6 editing system and mov files

We have just installed a new Adobe Premier Pro CS6 editing system with a HP 820Z (running windows 7) 18 core multi drive system.  Our production company has used many mov. files from Ponds.  We were a FCP 7.0 studio (still have the system) but the mov files won't import to our new CS6 System...  Not trying to import from the mac...have them stored on another PC.  We depend on this stock footage for production. Do I need to download a converter?  I just had to produce two spots with a still background because I could not get any of our stock mov files to work...
    Thanks much for any help!

PP does support direct import of Quicktime files that can be played back on the system.
What is the correct error message after import?
Can you playback the files with the Quicktime Player?
For some codecs like DNXHD you have to install the quicktime codec first...

  • .mov files from Focus Enhancements FSC no longer open in FCP7

After using years of using quicktime (.mov) files stored on my external hard drives that were originally created on a Focus Enhancements FS-C (HDV files from a Canon XH-A1) successfully with FCP7 and Quicktime player 10.0, these files will no longer open in either program.   In Quicktime player it just says file "XXXXXXXwhatever".mov can't be opened.  In FCP7 when I try to import such a file it give a generic error warning.   FCP7 also will no longer play files which were imported previously (and played) files.  It gives a very "helpful" "general error" warning.     I can still play this files using the VLC player so the files are still there and workable.
Every thing was working fine a few weeks ago.   Has something changed recently?   Any possible solutions?
    Thanks!

I found a work around too, but you must delete files from your updated system/library folder first before copying from a non-updated system/library folder:
You need to be able to access a machine that has not been updated with the latest quicktime update.  (I installed Snow leopard on a spare drive so I could use this process) In the updated system folder/library, delete the components and quicktime folders.  Empty the trash.  Then in the non-updated System/Library copy the components folder and the quicktime folder and paste them into the updated system/library folder.  (make sure you have already deleted and emptied the trash of the offending folders or this won't work).  Restart the computer.  It should see all files as it did before.  Worked fine for me.
    Hope this helps

  • FCPX renders .mov files to AppleProRes to create multicam clip

I use two .mov files to create multicam  clip. During this operation FCPX renders these .mov files and create Apple PreRes files that are10x larger.
Question: Can I create multicam clip without re-rendering? I understand that it is easier to edit using these large files, but I can edit single clip using original .mov file, so, it is not mandatory.

It optimizes the files. Switch this function off in Playback preferences.

  • Enlarging a .Mov file and maintaining the quality

a client wants me to use a .Mov file that is only 224 x 128.
Is there a way to increase the size and maintain the quality because when I do it it looks like an awful mush
    thanks

    No.
What you have is what you have.
There's no way to recover the information that was lost by reducing the image to that size.

  • Determining what the .MOV file settings are.

I have a program on my iMac I run to create slideshows and it creates .MOV files. I then transfer these .MOV files up to my website so people can see the slideshows.
On a older version of the program I use, when I look at the .MOV files on my iMAC (through the website) the video starts playing immediately and the download bar slowly fills up.
On the new version of the program I use, the .MOV file doesn't start playing on my iMAC until the file is completely downloaded.
I looked at the settings (to the best of my ability) with QuickTime Pro, and don't see anything obvious that is different. THe file created with the new version of the software is about 300K larger.
I am assuming there is a flag or something different between the two files. Is there any utility I can use which will take a .MOV file and list out the QuickTime settings for it?
    Thanks,
    Dennis

For some more information.....I am using Boinx softwares Fotomagico product. I placed both versions of the file created here: http://www.longnecker.me
For the .MOV file that was created with version 2.6.2 the show starts playing immediately.
For the .MOV file that was created with version 3.0.4, the show takes awhile before playing.
The difference is even more when the file is larger. The website, and the embed code is the same. THe only difference is the version of the Fotomagico software.
Any thoughts on why/how the file is different?

  • Can't use HDV quicktime .mov files (captured in Final Cut Pro) on a mac at work) on my PC at home

    Hiya everyone!
I've taken some work home from the macs at work, but can't open it on my PC.
Footage was captured in FCP on a mac at work, HDV quicktime .mov, but won't open in the newest quicktime, windows media player and more importantly in Adobe After Effects CS3 or Premiere Pro CS3 on my PC at home.
When I try opening the files in quicktime, the screen is white, but the audio plays. They don't open in windows media player at all. When I try to import them into Premiere, I get a message reading, "Error Message, Codec missing or unavailable". But they import into After Effects, except they only play as white...
I've tried converting them into almost everything, and they often play (as .avi for example in the newest QT, WMP, Adobe Premiere and AE), but they increase A LOT in size and decrease A LOT in quality.
The HDV files that won't open read as:
    Source: *.mov
    Format: HDV 1080i50, 1920 x 1080, Millions 16-bit Integer (Little Endian), 48.000 kHz
    Movie FPS: 25.00
    Playing FPS: (Available when playing)
    Data Size: 69.53 MB
    Data Rate: 28.10 mbits/sec
    Current time: 00:00:01.64
    Duration: 00:00:20.76
    Normal size: 1920 x 1080
    Current size: 1920 x 1080
Anything smaller than 1920 x 1080 plays fine.
I've been all through google, and the adobe and apple sites, and the best I could find is here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=7753066#7753066
    and
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8159317&#8159317
My problem is almost identical to these 2...
No one in the whole world seems to have an answer...
Does anyone here know how I can use the HDV files from the work macs on my PC at home?
    -Kaiwin

As a rule of thumb, any CoDec associated with the Apple Pro applications is generally not available on Windows. This also includes their flavor of HDV. The only exception at this point is ProRes, for which they added a player component recently. So therefore this would have to be what you use for capture/ export from FCP. Apart from that you can of course always buy a capture card from Blackmagic or AJA with the benefit of the CoDecs being available cross-platform... Or you use a commercial software-only CoDec like Cineform.

  • Help I can't delete a .mov file, because it is in use

Hi I my mac will not delete a quicktime .mov file because it apparently is in use. I don't know where it is in use, because I deleted the imovies it was in and I have no open windows of it on my computer. I am thinking it might still be uploading to youtube, but I thought I canceled that upload because I accidentally started to upload the same file again. However when I go to youtube it does not say the video has been uploaded again, so I don't know where the file is in use at. Does anyone know how to get rid of the file, or find where the file is in use?

I fixed it! The .mov was in a temporary (something) imovie folder, so I took the .mov out of the trash then emptied it. By emptying it I got rid of the folder that the .mov was in. Then I put the .mov back in the trash and then I was able to empty it. The temporary something imovie folder was using the .mov for some reason.
