Using a new ipod with old library

I recently switched from a 2nd generation to a video...When i tried to importmy library, some of the songs did not transfer and said I was not authorized to listen. I also recently purchased a video from itunes that will not add to my ipod when I drag it, also saying that i am not authorized. A majority of the songs transfered, but what is with the others not working?

It won't even play a few seconds of it. It says the file cannot befound when i try to play it through itunes. When it asks if I want to find it, nothing is found...

  • Brand new Ipod touch old library

So I got a new ipod touch and a new macbook. I was able to import my itunes library for my old ipod to the new macbook easily. Now, how do I get my library onto the new ipod touch? If I just plug it in will it sync? I kept the account info the same and authorized the new computer on the account. Can I have two ipods using the same itunes library? TIA

*Can I have two ipods using the same itunes library?*
Yes you can, at the moment I use three different model iPods with the same library. Just connect your new iPod to your computer and follow the on screen instructions to register and name it. It will connect to iTunes and prompt you to automatically sync your songs and videos onto the fresh installation. Press Done and the iPod will appear in iTunes and start to sync. If you want to update manually or using selected playlists uncheck the box beside the sync automatically instruction and press Done, it will default to manual mode and you can choose whatever setting you like. You can leave it at manual update or choose to sync music - selected playlists: How to use multiple iPods with one computer</a

  • Using multiple new iPods to old iTunes

    Hello,
I've recently been relieved of my trusty old iPod
I'm am therefore planning on buying a new one (or two) and would like to ask:
    1. If I buy an iPod Shuffle, will it work with my existing iTunes which has about 15GB of music in it?
    2. What will happen when a buy a new "proper" iPod, and I already have a Shuffle connecting to my iTunes?
Ideally I would like to wait to see what comes from the MacExpo later this month, but I want to get the shuffle in the meantime to tide me over.
    Many thanks

You can add new iPods to your computer unless those iPods are newer than the version of iTunes you have installed, in which case some or all of the functionality of the iPod may not be supported. The content of the existing iTunes library doesn't matter, as this content will be transferred to the new iPod the same way it would be if that iPod was the only one associated with that computer.

  • Charging New iPod with Old FireWire Charger

Hi, this should be a quick one to solve... I have an old FireWire AC Charger from a 2nd (or 3rd?) Gen iPod I no longer use, and the original FW cable. The dock connector on the old FW cable fits my newer iPods (5.5G iPod Video and a Touch), can the FW AC charger be used to charger these newer USB-only iPods, or will it fry them?
If so, will it also work with a Nano? I want to get one for a friend who doesn't own a computer, so a wall charger will be their only way to charge (in which case I'll just by a new wall charger if the old FW one is incompatible).
    Thanks!
(Note: I don't need it to transfer data, just to charge)

Yes, you can charge new iPod off older Firewire chargers. Just no data transfer.
    Cheers,

  • New ipod with old itunes, do I have to unistall old ipod?

I recently purchased a new iOS 8.1 ipod touch to replace my 6.6.  When installing it I told iTunes to place certain old playlists on my new ipod.  Now I'm getting new syncing errors in which it loses my place in audiobooks. Never had this happen before.
As a computer challenged old man, is there something I need to do to make this my new default player. I wonder if its resetting my files to what my old ipod had rather than resyncing it with the current position on my new ipod.

They are in the Audio book library and not in your Music library, right?
In iTunes on your computer in the Get Inof for the Audio Books is remember playback position checked?
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync/delete all audiobooks and resync
To delete all AudioBooks go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Manage Storage>Music and delete them
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • New iPod with old Dock?

My son has a new 30gb iPod Video. Since Apple cheaped out and didn't include a dock or charger, can he plug the new model into my 3rd gen touchwheel dock for charging? My dock is firewire, and I believe the new iPod is USB, but it appears the connectors match.
    30gb iPod video   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

As far as I know, the main difference in the dock is the width/thickness of the area surrounding the dock connector. Does the 30GB 5G come with anything to put into an older dock to make the fit more snug?
I'm not certain about the actual connector, but I believe that it should fit.
Another question is: with an older dock (3g, etc.) can you use the line out for video from the 5g ipod?

  • New iPods with old eMac

I have a G4 eMac with USB 1 and,of course, firewire. The newer iPods have no firewire connection and are using USB 2. I know that USB 2 is backward compatible with USB 1 but it USB 1 is painfully slow for data transfer.
Is there any way to add USB 2 to an older eMac?
If I purchased an external HD with both FW and USB2 ports, could I attach the HD to the eMac with FW and then use the USB2 port on the external HD to attach a new USB2 iPod and get true USB2 performance.
    TIA.
    Maurice

The USB 1.1 ports can't be upgraded. A dual-interface HD won't trick the computer into running faster, either; nor are there any Firewire-USB converters.
On the semi-bright side, depending on which model iPod you have in mind, you might be able to just purchase the iPod Firewire 400 dock cable for around US$20 and use that. The cable's no longer included with new iPods but it still works with the larger iPods although not, apparently, with the Shuffle or the Nano.

  • Restore new ipod with old ipod data

I think my ipod is probably toast (unless some genius responds to my last post and solves my problem). If I have to get a new ipod, does anyone know if I can restore the data from my dead one to the new one?

Yes, when you set up a new Touch you'll be given the opportunity to either set it up as a new iPod, or use the last backup from your current Touch.

  • New ipod with old itunes

i recently got a new ipod and when i try to put the songs on it from my library, it will only put 130 of the 1000+ songs in my library. how can i put all of the songs on my ipod?

For Windows system, the typical location would be...
My Documents -> My Music -> iTunes -> iTunes Music
then navigate to the artist folder then to the album folder.
You can always check where iTunes thinks the file is located by selecting the song in iTunes, do a Get Info on the track, then in the first tab/window where it shows the summary info on the track, at the bottom is a line "Where" and that will show the location that iTunes expects the file to be.

  • Quickest way to sync new ipod with old one?

Hi all - I have not been able to find an answer to this specific circumstance, so I'm hoping someone here can help... Here it is:
I have two Nanos (we'll call them "new" and "old"). All of the music that is on the "old" Nano is on my MacBook, in iTunes. I'm not switching computers, fyi.
Because I have thousands more songs on my computer than are on the Nano, I would like an easy method for putting all of the songs that are on the "old" device onto the "new" device (easier than manually locating them in iTunes and adding them to "new" Nano).
The solution might have something to do with syncing, I dunno. Should I select "sync music" on the "old" device? If so, what does that do and what is the next step for adding those exact songs to my "new" device? Whatever the answer, please spell it out for me.   Thanks!

Nevermind. Found my answer here: Transferring a playlist from one ipod to another

Because you can only synce with one iTunes library and you are switching libries by using the new computer. To nake this yyour syncing computer:
    - Move all the media(apps, music, synced video and photos etc) to the new computer.
    - Connect the iPofd yo the computer and bake a backup fo the iPod by right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up
    - Restore the iPod from that backup.
Note that the backup that iTunes makes doe not include media.
To move mdia to the new computer see:

  • New iPod to old iTunes library

I have succumbed to the tempation of a new iPod with video. I have an old 3G iPod and a decent music library built up, including some ITMS stuff, in iTunes.
I presume it is straightforward to sync this with my new iPod? Will iTunes recognise the new iPod as a foreign user?
    Any advice?

It won't be a "foreign user" if you're connecting it to the same Mac user account. iTunes will try to give the iPod the same default name (like "Martin Toal's iPod.") You will probably want to assign the new iPod a different name, to avoid any possible conflicts.
