Using a Palm m505, lost data

I just did a hotsynch and all the data in my date book was gone from both my hand held and my pc.Everything else is fine. the error message said that the computer may be full. How do I fix this?
Post relates to: Palm m505

You can recover the data from your user folder provided you have only sync'ed once with the PC when you discovered the data missing. When you sync to the PC there are files created for each PIM category in your user folder. For Example; datebook.dat or datebook (Depending on the version of Palm Desktop) and datebook.bak. Using 6.2 the file names are .mdb and mdb.bak. For 6.2, the files are located in the username folder in PalmOSdesktop in my documents.
The files are named .dat and .bak. When you sync, the current data is stored in .dat. The next time you sync the data in the .dat file is copied to the .bak file. You can rename the .dat to .old. then rename the .bak to .dat. If the data in the .bak file is intact, it will now be in palm desktop when you reopen Palm desktop. I have included a link to show you how to find the userfolder on the PC.

The best way to backup your data is to use the export feature in Palm Desktop. Make a new folder on the PC desktop named Palm Desktop Backup data. Next, select the category you want to export. You will get a window that asks where you want to save the file, save in the folder created on the desktop. There is a button that allows you to select currently selected record or all, select all. If you don't select all, then only the record highlighted is exported. You will then need to name the file for export, I suggest the name of the category, eg: datebook (With current date). Do this for all critical data in each category. With the data exported to the folder on the PC desktop, you can save this data to a flash drive, external hard drive or a CD-RW. With this method you will have your data in a seperate place than Palm desktop and the device. If you "Lose" data again, you can import the data back into palm desktop.
Make sure that when you make changes in palm desktop or the device to export the data to the folder created for the backup.

  • Palm E2 lost data

Help! I loat  my PALM E2 and tried to Sync my desktop with a new E2 that I had and it somehow deleted the desktop.  Is it possible to recover what was in the calander befor my mishap.  Thanks!
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Are you sure the HotSync didn't create a new user?  Open the pull-down menu for "User" in Palm Desktop and see if another is listed that has all your data.
DO NOT perform another HotSync!   If there is only one user, you will need to do some renaming of data files.  Close Palm Desktop on your PC.
Look for either "datebook.dat" or "calendar.dat" in your Palm Desktop folder on the PC and see which has data in it.  Rename the file with an .old extension (i.e. datebook.dat turns into datebook.OLD)   Now look for the same file with a .BAK extension that contains more than 2k of data.  Rename that file to datebook.dat.  (If using the datebook name).
Open Palm Desktop and cross  your fingers!

  • I had no idea Aurora used the same actual App Data file as it's own source, I thought it was just emulating Firefox. I unistalled it and lost everything...

I had installed Aurora 21.0a2 some time last year and had only used it once. I recently uninstalled it and without knowledge that it used the same exact App Data files as Firefox does, so I removed all data. Now I have lost 100's of bookmarks... I do backup my system often but not my browser data, I had only once made a copy of my Firefox data in August 2013, so I was able to copy and paste that info, which had maybe 35-40% of my bookmarks...
I had tried Windows Recovery a couple times, it says it wasn't able to restore the data successfully each time. I had also tried Recuva, not really sure if it found the file I was searching for, so I would kindly ask any of the Forum Mods or users who would suggest this method, what "file" exactly should I search for.
I had been searching for ".default" and ".defaults" files, and any other data relating to Firefox but with no success.
Do I really have any options of recovery or ....?

You should never choose to remove "personal data" when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because this will remove all profile folders and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords including data in profiles created by other Firefox versions.
You will have to try to recover a recent JSON backup (bookmarks-####-##-##_xxxx.json) in the bookmarkbackups folder of that removed Firefox profile folder with Recuva or another undelete utility.

  • Palm Profile - LOST CONTACTS

I've already read one post on this topic but am wondering if anyone else has had any RECENT problems relating to this.
I recently got my third Palm Pre from Sprint Replacement (the other two had to be returned due to stupid AND common problems, powering down when I close or open the phone and battery not keeping a charge).  After activating my phone and logging into my Palm Profile, only TWO (both Sprint help numbers) of my contacts from my Palm Profile transferred over to my new Pre.  I've read an older (June) post on someone having an issue with this, is there anyone out there recently that has?
I've called Sprint about this problem and they transferred me to Palm.  I've gone through round one with Palm help (saying I needed to update my phone to the most current WebOS, which I did--still no contacts).  I'll be going through round two today once the help line opens up for the day.
I also should note that I got me second Palm Pre earlier in the week (Tuesday) and had NO problems with my Palm Profile keeping my contacts onto that phone.  That was just 3 days ago. AND I had to reset my first Pre and logged into my Palm Profile on that and had no problems with my contacts.
Is the problem when people are on their 3rd/4th/5th Pre and logging into their profile?
Any help would be appreciated.  And any idea how long of calling until I finally get my contacts back??
    Thanks

Did you use google as your default the last time or Palm profile as the phone came when you bought it? If it was google, simply input your username and password for email, contact, calendar and everything on your google account should reflect on your Pre. If it was Palm profile before you lost data, I don;t think you will get it back. I am sorry to say this. You can try loggin in with a password you forgot, but I don't see a point for that.
    Good luck.

  • Palm m505 desktop installation.

I am currently using a Palm m100 with the Palm desktop 4.1 on a win98se computer. I just got a used m505 with all the original software disks. How can I install all the ancillary programs that come with m505 (eg: Avant Go, Documents to go etc), yet retain all the synced info on both my 4.1 desktop + my m100. The updates (backlight, copy, Daylight Savings Time, file manager), I see install with a hot sync. Must I install the 4.0 that came with the m505 over the current 4.1 to install all the ancillary programs, very confusing to a non-techie like me. When I went to the Palm support page for the m505, they also suggest installing the current desktop 4.1.4., is that advisable?.Whatever way, I want to ensure that I retain all the content I am currently using on my 4.1 desktop + my m100, so that I can continue using it after setting up the m505. Because my tech savvy is not that great please supply a point by point respose that is easy to follow. Much thanks, Ken.

Now we're talking a whole new ballgame...  You'll need to follow Palm's "Guide to Upgrading to a new device" in order for the information to flow from the m100 to the m505!
How to Upgrade from a Previous Palm device to a Newer One: http://kb.palm.com/ and enter 12926 (General Upgrade guide) or 45175 (Upgrade to Centro) into the "solution ID:" box (lower right).
The critical step is to rename the /Backup folder in your Palm directory on your computer to something else (like BackupOLD) before doing a Hotsync to the m505.
This will ensure no m100-specific system files migrate to the m505.  All PIM data should install on the m505, but no third-party programs.  You can try to install any or all of these later one by one.
You'll need to Hard Reset the m505 to clear it out (if it isn't in this state already).  That way, when you Hotsync the blank device to Palm Desktop, you'll be asked the question "Create a New Account, or Use an Existing One?" when you HotSync.  Choose your old m100 username, and all the data should flow to the m505.
To perform a Hard Reset: (Palm Knowledgebase article #887)
While pressing and holding the Power button down, tap and release the Reset button in back and continue to hold the Power button down. When the grey Palm logo appears, you can release the Power button.
You should now see the warning page in about 5 languages. Press the UP direction on the 5-way pad to complete the task. Your Palm will reset itself several times as it re-installs the original programs and erases all your previous data.

  • Palm m505 - Accidentally Deleted Memo

I just made a bit of an oops. I was working on a Memo in my Palm m505 and attempted to paste some text into it using the "/P" keystrokes. As occasionally happens, my strokes were interpreted as "/D" instead, which deletes the Memo. Fortunately, there is the confirmation screen. But as has never happened to me before, I absentmindedly confirmed before I fully realized what it was asking me.<br><BR> I have the Memo function on the m505 configured to "Save archive copy on PC", so I know the data is still in there. But I am working away from home and am not therefore not where I have my synchronization setup. Is synchronization the only way to access the deleted data that obviously is still in there somewhere? I would sure like to recover that memo sooner than I expect to be home if that is possible .

Once you delete the memo from the device you cannot recover it unless you have the same memo on the PC in Palm desktop. If it is in Palm desktop, you can sync to get the memo back on the handheld.

    I don't think you're on iOS 5, I think you're using iOS 6.  That's the latest version.
Unless you've used iCloud to back up your documents, you won't be able to restore them.  And for future reference, you don't have to uninstall Pages to update your iPad anymore.  Sorry about this.

  • Can't open palm desktop user data

I just upgraded from a Palm m515 to a Tungsten T3. I followed the directions for this on the Palm website.
To make a long story short, I have a copy of my data on the tungsten, and a copy on the m515 - but nothing I can access on the desktop! I have several backups, under several user names, at this point. I have desktop v. 4.3.1 rev.D installed (after many uninstalls and installs). I can open the desktop application to an empty file, but when I try to switch to a user with my data in it, the application hangs and I have to force quit.
I created a new user in the palm desktop, called "New" and did a hotsync with the tungsten. Now "New" won't open in the desktop, either.
I'm aware of the change in conduit names from Datebook to Calendar, Addresses to Contacts, etc, and from another thread learned that I should put the old conduits in a disabled conduits folder, so I did that. So I guess that means I can't use the m515 as the data source...
I really don't know what to do to get my palm desktop application - with data - back. I can't use iCal and Address book exclusively because I need the memo pad with categories. I have a current copy of all my palm addresses in the Apple address book, and a three week old copy of the calendar in iCal (so I'd like not to have to use that version of the calendar data.)
I really hope someone can give me step-by-step instructions that tell me what to do to get out of this fix. It doesn't seem like it should be this hard!
    Powerbook G4 17   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Both the old and new conduits can coexist in the active Conduits folder. This is an exception to the general rule that no two conduits can synchronize the same data type simultaneously. So, you should return the original four—the Datebook Conduit for calendaring data, the Address Conduit for contact data, the Memo Conduit and the ToDo Conduit for task data—to your active folder. The HotSync Manager will properly choose to use the appropriate set for each device.
You can simultaneously synchronize both your m515 and your Tungsten T3, but they must have different HotSync names. To move the data from your m515, use the Palm conduits set to Handheld overwrites Macintosh to move a copy of all of your data from the m515 to the Palm Desktop. Then export a copy of each of the four data types using the Palm Desktop format.
Create a new empty user with a unique HotSync name for the Tungsten T3, and import each of the files into that user. Set your conduits to Macintosh overwrites Handheld, and synchronize only your Tungsten. That will move a copy of all of the m515 data stored in the Palm Desktop during your import, on the Tungsten handheld organizer.
At that point, you can reset your conduits to Synchronize, and continue to synchronize both devices, or you can move from the Palm Desktop to iCal and the Address Book, using either iSync, or the Missing Sync for Palm OS to synchronize one or both devices.

  • Restoring the lost data.

    Hi All,
We have two Planning Applications created in EPMA architecture.
Accidentally user has deleted the critical forecast data from one of the application by running the Business rule which deletes the data. The data which got delete was critical one and now user need to restore it back.
We do have latest windows file system back up taken on both Physical Hyperion Application & Essbase Servers therefore we can restore the necessary files from backup in order to restore the lost data with the help of our Storage team who handles the back ups.
Could you please advice on how do we go ahead for restoring the lost data from backed up files and which files we may need to restore from the back up.
This is an extremely urgent & critical issue we are facing hence your valuable advice is much needed as soon as possible.
    Thanks in advance !

I have tried this Maxl couple of times in case of Invalid Block Header issues. Doesn't seem to resolve for me.
If it is a case of invalid block header :
    How to restore a database:
    1. Stop the application/database and delete the dbname.ind file.
    2. Clear non input level data using Hyperion Application Manager, DATABASE -> CLEAR DATA -> NON-INPUT BLOCKS. Then perform a full calculation of the database either using CALC ALL or if required, specific calc scripts. This may not work however as it depends on where the IBH lies in the data. If this still returns the error during the calculation then proceed to step 3.
    3. Stop the application and delete the following files from your database.
This removes all the data from the database.
    <dbname>.ind
    ess000#.ind
    ess000#.pag
    <dbname>.tct
    <dbname>.esm
    To get the data back:
    a. Do a full calc from your database from an input level export
    or
    b. Restore from an existing backup. If this backup does contain an IBH, then keep restoring previous backups and checking.
    Hope this helps!
    A.S.

  • Is there a way to retrieve lost data

I tried spotlight and it seems some of my iMovie files are gone. I don't have a backup. This was a result of a computer crash. Is there any third party software that I could use?

    leroystreet
    1. To recover lost data try using File Salvage
    2. Are you sure the Spotlight index wasn't damaged in the crash? Try re-indexing: In the Spotlight PreferencePane, drag the HD to the Privacy Pane, leave it there for a few moments, then drag it out again. Allow it time to re-index.

  • Lost data in Aperture - NOT recoverable through Time Machine!

I recently accidentally deleted photos in Aperture. Unfortunately, even though I backup regularly with Time Machine, I have come to find that Photos in Aperture libraries are non-recoverable.
Can anyone please help? Apple has no help topics for lost data.

The photos in the library are recoverable. But you will likely have to restore the library and then navigate through the library to get the photos. You can get to them by right clicking the library and choosing "Show Package Contents" and then navigating the the project and again right clicking to do "show package contents" and then access the RAW files. It will be a bit tedious.
It's a lot easier if you're using referenced masters.

  • Palm m505 and Windows Vista

I recently resurrected my Palm M505 to start using it again but it doesn't want to hotsync to my computer using Windows Vista.  I tried downloading update 6.2 from this site (not that it showed that it would workf for my Palm, but what the heck) but it didn't fix the problem either and I'm getting a fatal error message.  Is there a patch or a work around that I can download/use that will allow my Palm to work with Windows Vista?  I really don't want to get rid of the Palm and switching operating systems is not an option either.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Post relates to: Palm m505

Check the OS version such as 32 bit or 64 bit.
If it's 64bit then the device will not syc. That are no drivers for the device, you might want to consider infrared hotsync.

  • How to retrieve lost data from trash recently deleted with in 10 days.

My computer was recently hacked and they forwarded my mail for 2 days till I caught it. Also they had mail deleted after forwarding. Trash is empty. I want to see correspondence to protect my self. Thanks

    Basics of File Recovery
    Files in Trash
If you simply put files in the Trash you can restore them by opening the Trash (left-click on the Trash icon) and drag the files from the Trash to your Desktop or other desired location.  OS X also provides a short-cut to undo the last item moved to the Trash -press COMMAND-Z.
If you empty the Trash the files are gone. If a program does an immediate delete rather than moving files to the Trash, then the files are gone.  Recovery is possible but you must not allow any additional writes to the hard drive - shut it down. When files are deleted only the directory entries, not the files themselves, is modified. The space occupied by the files has been returned to the system as available for storage, but the files are still on the drive. Writing to the drive will then eventually overwrite the space once occupied by the deleted files in which case the files are lost permanently. Also if you save a file over an existing file of the same name, then the old file is overwritten and cannot be recovered.
    General File Recovery
If you stop using the drive it's possible to recover deleted files that have not been overwritten by using recovery software such as Data Rescue II, File Salvage or TechTool Pro.  Each of the preceding come on bootable CDs to enable usage without risk of writing more data to the hard drive.  Two free alternatives are Disk Drill and TestDisk.  Look for them and demos at MacUpdate or CNET Downloads.
The longer the hard drive remains in use and data are written to it, the greater the risk your deleted files will be overwritten.
