Using a Panasonic HPX-370 Camera, trouble with formats

We are using a Panasonic HPX-370 camera with FMLE via firewire to a Mac laptop.  We can only get FMLE to recognize the signal from the camera at 1280 x 720  59.94i  with a frame rate of 60i using the DVCPROHD codec.  We really would like to set the camera to SD, something like 720 x 480 at 29.97 or possible squeeze for 16:9 possibly using DVCPRO50 or DVCPRO25 but FMLE won't recognize the video signal at anything by 1280x 720 60i using DVCPROHD.  Our client is only purchasing 1MB bandwidth at the venues for events so SD would be best for webcasts. We also back up to P2 cards so you can imagine that 8 hours at DVCPROHD in that size is a mammoth amount of data to back on hard drives.
We are very new to FMLE, any thoughts?
Thanks!

Hi anne adshead
Welcome to apple discussions. Might be too new of a camcorder to tell (you'll have to tell us) but here's what I found so far:
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3290
It is listed within apple's KB. But as to how much apple support it offers? .... I'm not sure.
http://panasonic.net/avc/camcorder/sd/america/products/sdr-s26/specifications.ht ml
The convenience of the SDHC format makes it is easy to transfer files. The S26 offers Mass Storage support – connect with a USB lead and your Mac sees all the files.
But here ends the Apple support. Video is recorded in the .MOD format (also used by JVC Everio camcorders) which Mac apps don't recognise. You can change the extension manually (or by batch command) to .M2V so that VLC plays it.
For iMovie and elsewhere, you'll need a conversion app such as Aimersoft Video Converter. Is it too much effort for what you get?

    Yes. The Camera reader is not compatible with iPhones.

  • How do I use a Panasonic HDD Video Camera with an iBook?

    We just bought a Panasonic SDR-H40P without even thinking that there would be any problem using it with a Mac. We recorded some videos, then proceeded to try and download them to the computer only to find that they are written in .mod, which the computer will not recognize. The software that comes with the camera is for PCs only. So, after doing some research, I downloaded the trial version of DropDV. and got the files off the camera via the provided USB. It did convert some of the files (supposedly into an iMovie format). Some of the videos we took work fine. Some are missing. Some seem to be in slow motion.
    Is there a different program to use or another way to get these .mod (and .moi) files to work/open on our Mac? We have some videos of a baby that his grandparents would love to be able to see!

    From what I've found through reading the topic in several digital movie
    forums, you should be able to use iMovie and have it import the file
    from the camera for use and editing in the Mac.
    This path may be version dependent for best results; and I am not
    sure which versions of iLife's iMovie would be best for use with the
    digital camera and also may be compatible with the older Mac iBook.
    Some Panasonic digital video cameras are also seen by iPhoto and
    in some cases, that can find the movie file and import it for iMovie.
    And there are other Panasonic video devices which create the same
    kinds of files, and there is a free or shareware software out there to
    help use them. This may include players by third parties and others
    which may be able to edit digital movie files.
    In some digital movie forums, there is an awareness of Panasonic
    products not necessarily being the best supported for Mac OS X;
    while many pro users of Panasonic products have Macs, among
    them are newer Intel Mac users with Parallels, BootCamp, etc
    and they can run XP or Vista-ready software. If this is (still) true,
    then Panasonic may be missing out; since modern products
    should have support in their retail box for both major platforms.
    Some Panasonic products have shipped with Mac software for
    several years now; along with Windows software. Some didn't.
    Hopefully iMovie can see the Panasonic digital movie files; if the
    iBook can support the feature set of iMovie. Some aspects of
    this part of iLife require the ability to record to DVD media and
    also may require more system assets & resources than you have.
    Good luck & happy computing!

    Hi Surija,
    there is an issue with Internet Explorer that causes this problem when you launch the BSP applicaiton using the test menu in SE80. The issue does not occur with Firefox...very strange I know.
    Anyway, to get around this you just copy the BSP application URL and open a browser and paste the URL in...so essentially do not use the "Test" in SE80 to launch your application.
    Hope this fixes your problem!
    Cheers,

  • Trouble with format of files exported from pages as .doc - when opened on a pc they have extra spaces and pages breaks inserted after each line?  Can be manually deleted, but defeats sharing purpose. advice?

    Hi all, I have trouble with the format of files exported by email as .doc from pages - when opened in MS word on a PC or other device, they have extra spaces and pages inserted after each line - can be deleted manually, but defeats sharing purpose.  Any advice?  Not the most sophisticated user.

    Got it. I tried booting with MOD_AUTOLOAD set to yes, and it was working fine. Looks like I needed to specify some more modules in my list.

  • Cannot email photos using a Panasonic DMC-ZS25 camera on PictBridge

    Using a new Panasonic ZS25 camera for the first time , have been unable to successfully email photos. Computer screen shows progress bar filling after pressing "SEND", but immediately followed by message that attempt unsuccessful.
    Using the alternative method of dragging photos to Desktop, and then dragging them into body of email message was successful. Why is iPhoto doing this ?

    How does PictBridge fit into this ?  New camera requires that I access PictBridge as a prelude to downloading and then sending photos by Mail.
    Okay so how does iPhoto fit into this?
    I'm no familiar with every camera brand, but I believe that Pictbridge is solely for printing, and his no role in simply getting the photos from your camera.
    In Mail, note the toolbar at the top right. Click on the second from last button and your entire library is available to be dragged from...

  • A queue using a linked list..having troubles with the rest

    ok...
    this is the assignment ( [http://jessehardesty.com/uploads/p2.JPG] ) picture is kind of big...
    I have to have a "queue" class, but I will have to remove some people from the line that are in the middle (which is why i put it in quotes).
    this is the queue class I have as of now...
    public class Queue
           private static class Node
              int item;
              Node next;
           private Node head = null;  // Points to first Node in the queue.
                                      // The queue is empty when head is null.
           private Node tail = null;  // Points to last Node in the queue.
           void enqueue( int N ) {
                 // Add N to the back of the queue.
              Node newTail = new Node();  // A Node to hold the new item.
              newTail.item = N;
              if (head == null) {
                    // The queue was empty.  The new Node becomes
                    // the only node in the list.  Since it is both
                    // the first and last node, both head and tail
                    // point to it.
                 head = newTail;
                 tail = newTail;
              else {
                    // The new node becomes the new tail of the list.
                    // (The head of the list is unaffected.)
                 tail.next = newTail;
                 tail = newTail;
           int dequeue() {
                  // Remove and return the front item in the queue.
                  // Note that this can throw a NullPointerException.
              int firstItem = head.item;
              head = head.next;  // The previous second item is now first.
              if (head == null) {
                    // The queue has become empty.  The Node that was
                    // deleted was the tail as well as the head of the
                    // list, so now there is no tail.  (Actually, the
                    // class would work fine without this step.)
                 tail = null;
              return firstItem;
           boolean isEmpty() {
                  // Return true if the queue is empty.
              return (head == null);
        }my problem is that I don't know how to go about doing the units of time. We are given a data file with the time of arrival, length of transaction, amt bought, and money spent.
    it's kind of long or I'd post it...but they are all ints. I'll have to read from the file. My problem (for now) is that I don't know what kind of loop to do, and how to read them in correctly...it is 4 ints per line in the file, spaces in between of course. What kind of loop should be used?...and how do I go about keeping track of all the "people" in line without using 40+ counters (one for each "person").
    thanks, and hopefully that makes some sense.

    Is apple working to fix this bug now? Anyone else having the same issue?

    The 'problem with a previous purchase' message implies that iTunes wasn't able to collect the payment from your last purchase - until that is paid you won't be able to download anything else from the store, including free items, redownloading past purchases, and updates to your apps.
    For a card to have a chance of being accepted it needs to be registered to the same name and address (including format and spacing etc) that you have on your iTunes account, and have been issued by a bank in the country where you and your iTunes account are. If they're debit cards that you are trying to use then they don't appear to still be accepted in all countries, and even where they are it seems that not all work.
    If you don't have any credit/debit cards that are accepted by iTunes then are iTunes gift cards available in your country (they are not available in all and they are country-specific, they can only be used in their country of issue) ? If they are then you could potentially use them as your payment method.

  • Help ! trouble with formating

    HI Everyone. I just finished my first project and thought I was on my way to meeting a deadline. I've encoded and now I'm having trouble formating. On the format button, the destination doesn't give me the 'standard dvd' option. Instead I get .img, DDP2.00, CMF 1.00 or DDP2.10. And on the output device it won't let me choose my external burner-only 'hard drive'. I did make one successful dvd last night-but since re-encoded and don't know why I'm having trouble now. Possibly an error in encoding? Could someone please help. Thanks

    I'm no DSP guru but I suggest to format using .img then burning that image file through Toast or something.
    Just so you can still meet your deadline.
    Just my 2cents,

  • Trouble with formatting after converting word to PDF

    A portion of a page is cut off when I convert the word document to a PDF. What can I do to fix this? I have included some screen shots to demonstrate the issue. In the screen shot from the PDF you can see that the bottom of pg 60 is cut off, it is visible in the word document version. It is only this page which has the problem. The similarly formatted table on the following page, pg 61, is not cut off in the PDF form of the document. (The word doc is the first image and the PDF is the second.)
    Thank you for your time

    This is a WORD issue. When you are editing in WORD, select the printer to be the Adobe PDF printer (or set this to be your default printer) and then edit. WORD and most word processors reflow documents to best match the printer resolution. This will even happen if you switch between various paper printers. You can turn off this feature in WORD under the options, buried under compatibility for using printer metrics. I am not sure what WORD does when you turn off the use of printer metrics.
    As I said, the result is typical of word processors, If you want to end this behaviour then you would need to use a layout program like InDesign. Layout packages are WYSIWYG applications. I have my systems set to the Adobe PDF printer as the default and often print from Acrobat to a physical printer. Since I print PDFs to the printer more than WORD documents, this works well for me.

  • HPX-370 P2 Metadata Support and Adobe Bridge

    I'm having some trouble getting Adobe Bridge to write metadata to files generated with a Panasonic HPX-370 P2 camera.
    The company I work for recently requested that I come up with a digital asset management plan for new video. Let me preface this by saying, I'm a shooter/editor, not a data manager.  Since we were already buying the HPX370, all my research pointed to Adobe Bridge being a perfect solution for adding metadata in the form of keywords to our videos to make our video database searchable.
    Now that the camera is in-hand, I have been unable to alter the metadata through Adobe Bridge.  Here is my issue.  Every time I go to add a keyword or change the metadata on one of the mxf video files within bridge, the stock response is: The file "filename" cannot store XMP metadata.  No changes will occur.
    I thought this would be fairly easy to find a fix to, but not a ton out on the net about this specific problem.  What am I doing wrong here?
    If this can't be fixed easily on my end, could it be an added feature?  How do you request a feature addition?

    A view problems here, first of all not many regulars (me amongst them) are very familiar with movie files.
    Bridge does not seem to support MFX files in the Bridge preferences File type associations.
    And in general, not all file types are able to write XMP data (keywords, IPTC etc) to, some just don't accept it.
    Another possibility seems that you don't have read and write permissions to the files, folders or disk the files are on. The files also might been locked (but then they should show a small lock icon above the thumb.
    Also try this page:
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/premierepro/cs/using/WSE2397406-3FEB-43df-868D-68EB20BBC021.ht ml#WSCEE5677A-075C-40bb-99D9-D8EE08FC68B4
    and maybe even better, drop this question in the dedicated Premiere Pro forum:
    http://forums.adobe.com/community/premiere
    And while Bridge is a perfect application for the workflow needed for pre process and process it really is not all that good in dedicated DAM functions, maybe you also try to look at third party applications that can handle movie files better then Bridge can.

  • Having trouble with multiple user accounts

    I am still getting used to Aperture and am having trouble with multiple user accounts on my Mac.
    My wife and I have separate accounts on our Mac, and both have Administrator rights. We keep our Aperture library in the "Shared" folder, and I have made sure that both she and I have read/write capabilities on the Aperture library.
    However, she has difficulty creating new projects, saving data, and viewing thumbnails in Aperture. Whenever she creates a project, it does not save into Aperture, and cannot be viewed by any user. In addition, changes she makes to photos do not save. She also cannot view thumbnails of any photos (although she can see the photos in the viewer).
    Are there any changes I need to make to the user accounts so she can have all these capabilities?
    Many Thanks.

    Rather than having the Aperture library reside in the shared folder, keep it within a folder residing at the top level of your mac, eg.
    I actually keep mine on one of my RAID disks.

    While using it my iPad spontaneously came up with the message "This iPad cannot back up to iCloud without a verified e-mail address".  There are two buttons to push: "Later" and "Settings". Pushing either button does nothing.  It acts as if it is frozen.  If I try to slide the off switch, it does not slide.  I assume it is frozen.  How do I get out of this?

    Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

    Does Imovie 08 (7.1.4) support a Panasonic HC-V500M video camera? Have been able to transfer movie to Imac with Imovie '08 but audio doesn't transfer. Why? What should I do to get audio?

    In some digital movie forums, there is an awareness of Panasonic
    products not necessarily being the best supported for Mac OS X;
    while many pro users of Panasonic products have Macs, among
    them are newer Intel Mac users with Parallels, BootCamp, etc
    and they can run XP or Vista-ready software.
