Using a pdf to support classroom learning in Flash

I am teaching a high school course on Design and am using Flash CS6.   We have a pdf version of the "Classroom in a Book, Flash Professional CS5" and would like to make that pdf available to all our students.
The pdf is found on the internet so I am wondering if I have Adobe permission to use that pdf with my students.
Who can I contact in Adobe?
Al Briesemeister

It sounds like you've found a pirated copy of a commercial publication.
This is the Flash Player forum, so we're outside my area of expertise, but these items are definitely offered for purchase through Adobe Press:
Classroom in a Book Series
That said, Amazon has some pretty cheap copies of that book used.

Voice over can be used, but voice over is not a very selective setting. When enabled, voice over changes how you navigate the iPad completely. It does work though.

  • Using Adobe TV for Classroom Learning

    Hi,
Can anyone shed some lights on the above.
I am keen to use one of the Adobe TV series for classroom learning such as this one: http://tv.adobe.com/show/classroom-basic-site-layout-and-navigation-in-dreamweaver-cs5/
My question is how do I get official permission from Adobe TV?
Your assistance will be much appreciated.

We have a major issue with the way this works... we have no internet on our workstations, and want to deploy... it appears there is NO WAY to do an offline activation using the AAMEE program!!! This is a major oversight for people who work on contained networks, with zero internet on any workstations where the deployment can be made.
Please let me know of a way round this, it is quite urgent!

I am a teacher and would like to know how to use the iPad in the classroom?

Since this is a user forum you might wish to do some Google searching on your topic. There are hundreds of ways an iPad could be used in the classroom both by teachers and students. Apple is very much involved in education so you may wish to look further into their programs, but that is not done on the forums but through Apple's website. For example, Students - Mac, iPod, iPhone, and iPad for college and Education - iPod touch and iPhone enable on-the-go and Education - iPad makes the perfect learning ...

(Being sarcastic - its because only the US is big or important enough to warrant volume licensing....)
At this time, until Apple decides to release volume licensing structures outside of the US the only solution would be to use your purchase orders with a company that sells the iTunes Vouchers and redeem those.
However - even then its hard to stay on the right side of the EULA when the terms are all couched in reference to "Personal Use"
I have spoken to some developers in the past about educational discounts, or even support for proxies, and wasn't really impressed with their answers.   But hey - even Adobe has trouble with proxies and consistent approaches - we can't expect independent developers to be able to match the same capabilities...

  • Using a PDF as a Document Template in SharePoint 2010: "New Document" icon and action

    Hi,
I have to create a document template in SharePoint 2010 using a PDF. After much searching I have learned to install Reader on the SharePoint server to bring in AcroPDF.dll
and set the OpenControl for PDFs in DOCICON.xml to be "AdobeAcrobat.OpenDocuments".
After taking these steps I can check PDFs in and out of SharePoint, and edit PDFs as I would edit an MS Office document.
However two problems remain with creating new documents based upon a PDF document template.
    1) The PDF icon does not appear in the New Document dropdown. This makes sense since I never referenced a 32x32 icon in the SharePoint config files. Where would I place the icon image file and which configuration file would I edit to use that image file, and how?
The last three document templates are PDFs.
The second problem I face is that when I click one of the document templates above that is a PDF, nothing happens. I have tried this with Acrobat installed on both the client and the server. It would be preferable to insert a copy of the PDF document used as a template without having to use Acrobat at all.
Is there any resolution to either of these problems?

According to what i found the image needs to be 16x16.
    See if this works.
Edit the DOCICON.XML file to include the PDF icon
    In Windows Explorer, navigate to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\TEMPLATE\XML
Edit the DOCICON.XML file (I open it in NotePad, you can also use the built-in XML Editor)
Ignore the section <ByProgID> and scroll down to the <ByExtension> section of the file
Within the <ByExtension> section, insert a <Mapping Key=”pdf” Value=”pdficon_small.gif” /> attribute. The easiest way is to copy an existing one – I usually just copy the line that starts <Mapping Key=”png”… and replace the parameters for Key and Value (see image below for example).
Note: Do not take shortcuts and copy/paste from here. 99% of problems with PDF icons not being displayed are due to errors made in the DOCICON.XML file
    Save and close the file

  • Encode movie clips for use in PDF presentation?

I've tried several formats for use in PDF.
FLV, F4V and H.264. But i always experience massive lag in Full Screen Mode. Even when I encode with low rate settings.
    Any best practises?

Those are the only formats supported in Rich Media Annotations. Within the Acrobat Family they render using Flash Player, so the performance should be similar to a full-screen display of the same video from another source (e.g. on a website).
What do you mean by 'massive lag'? Are the audio and video tracks out of sync, is the playback slow or buffering? You must expect an initial delay when the RMA activates, as the video file must be decompressed from the PDF file's data stream and transferred to memory for Flash Player to open. That can take anything up to three seconds depending on the hardware and size of the stream.

  • Use of PDFs in PRO4

    Hello All,
Iu2019ve configured for the use of PDFs (expert view, other settlement, position 24 = 0, and the TRVFE feature). Modified and am using a Z copy of the expense form with no problems.  Here is my question/issue, in the weekly report (PR04) when I simulate or run results on a weekly report number, the results are displayed using ABAP list, and if I try to print then I get nothing.   I found an OSS note 1512422 that states that u201CPDF forms are not supported for weekly reportsu201D so I was wondering if anyone could confirm this.
I find it curious that the selectable options in the expert view position 24, option 2 specifically states u201CPDF not active only in PR05 and PR04u201D, but yet PDF are not supported for PR04.
Question is:  Can PDFs be used in transaction PR04?
    Thank you for your time.

    Hi Don
I was investigating this for you earlier but replying here also as it may help other customers with same enquiry! Yes, there are some some technical limitations between the different structures that impact on the old ABAP reporting compared with the newly delivered fields in PDF and unfortunately development have confirmed they cannot modify or adapt the standard template delivered for ABAP to PDF also.
It can only be used for PR05 and TRIP at this time.
    Hope this helps!

  • Document uses unsupported PDF feature!!!!!!!!!!

    Hi everyone,
I do a lot of historic research using books and periodicals downloaded from archive.org.  I download PDF's and save everything in folders.  The volume of material that I've accumulated was getting overwhelming, so I found Digital Editions and thought it would help bring some order to the chaos.  My first attempt to upload 58 "books" resulted in 27 being completely unreadable with the message "document uses unsupported PDF feature".  That's a pretty dismal success rate.  What gives?
    Thanks,
    Darryl

Assuming that you are talking about scanned sheet music in PDF form, then the problem is either that the sheet music was authored with Latex and uses fonts that Digital Editions doesn't support, or was scanned and the image format which Digital Editions also currently doesn't support. Acrobat Reader 7.0 supports these, and future (but not 1.5) version of Digital Editions will also support these features.
We have been working with publishers on these issues (e versions of Comic Books/Graphic Novels, for instance have been a particular problem), but I don't think we've heard of this problem with sheet music yet. Which publisher is this?

  • PDF/VT Support in InDesign CS 5.5

Is there PDF/VT export in InDesign now that CS 5.5 is out? Is there a similar upgrade to InDesign Server? Is there a good resource for the differences between PDF and PDF/VT?
    Thanks,
    Bob

First, let's differentiate between PDF/X-4:2008 and PDF/X-4:2010. In terms of the ISO standards, PDF/X-4:2010 replaces (not supplements) the PDF/X-4:2008 standard. The PDF/X-4:2010 standard loosens some restrictions on how one can express layers in PDF/X-4 and allows layers to be expressed the same way they are in InDesign documents (and for that matter, Illustrator files). There were also some clarifications and corrections applied to the actual text of the standard. There are no physical differences in how PDF/X-4:2008 and how PDF/X-4:2010 files are “marked.” And the good news is that all valid PDF/X-4:2008 files are valid PDF/X-4:2010 files. However, vice versa is not true! This isn't a problem since there is no such thing as PDF/X-4:2008 in terms of the ISO standard.
In terms of what you see in InDesign 7.5, all PDF/X-4 files, despite what the joboptions claim, are actually PDF/X-4:2010 and will allow for layers. InDesign no longer restricts the PDF to PDF 1.4 (again, regardless of what the joboptions say), and allows for JPEG2000 image compression and automatically applies much higher compression to the non-image sections of the PDF file. In the next major release of InDesign, I think you'll see that the joboptions are properly labelled in terms of PDF/X-4:2010 support and there won't be PDF/X-4:2008 joboptions at all.
Secondly, the relationship of PDF/X-5:2010 to PDF/X-5:2008 is exactly the same as PDF/X-4:2010 to PDF/X-5:2008. The PDF/X-5:2010 standard totally replaces the PDF/X-5:2008 standard and provides the same “upgrades” and PDF/X-4:2010 provides for PDF/X-4:2008.
However, I know of no way that you can directly export PDF/X-5 files from InDesign. The PDF/X-5:2010 support is only for the SDK to allow creation of PDF/VT-2 files.
Third, per my original response, the PDF/VT support (both PDF/VT-1 - fully self-contained PDF/VT - and PDF/VT-2 - using PDF/X-5 for external PDF objects known as Reference XObjects) is only available in the SDK.
And finally, in terms of marketing bullet points, I'm just a dumb engineer here and not even part of the InDesign organization. But yes, they don't tell the whole story. I don't think they intentionally wrote this one to mislead, but most likely, those who wrote the marketing collateral probably didn't quite understand any of this at all.
Note that for Illustrator and Photoshop in CS5, the PDF/X-4 that is output has not changed, i.e. it is restricted to the features of PDF/X-4:2008. Hopefully this will be fixed for the next full versions of those programs (i.e., not a commitment). Also note that Acrobat X Pro fully supports PDF/X-4:2010 and PDF/X-5:2010. The preflight support in Acrobat 9 Pro will fail any PDF/X-4:2010 file that has layers per the relaxed rules of PDF/X-4:2010.
All versions of RIPs and printers from our OEM partners using the Adobe PDF Print Engine should be capable of supporting PDF/X-4:2010 and PDF/X-5:2010 (assuming that the OEM has enabled PDF/X-4 and PDF/X-5 support). Full support for PDF/VT-1 and PDF/VT-2 which are based on PDF/X-4:2010 and PDF/X-5:2010 is available via the Adobe PDF Print Engine 2.5 now beginning to appear in our OEMs' products.
    Clear as mud now?

  • Using Acrobat PDF Browser Control in Vista

    Hi,
I've written a .NET 2.0 WinForms application that uses the PDF Reader ActiveX to display PDF files. Everything works well in Win XP and Win 2003 Server, but when I install it in Vista, my app crashes. I get no useful error message, only "[My app name] doesn't work anymore" (This is a translation of the message i get in the Dutch version of Vista).
I must add that I used .NET Framework 3.5 with the Vista installation where I used .NET 2.0 on XP. I did this because there is no explicit support for Vista mentioned on the Microsoft Download site. I doubt this would have any effect, because of the backward compatibility.
Someone suggested me that it could have something to do with permissions, but I tested all this with an administrator-account, so this is out of the question as well.
Now, I'm out of ideas... Anyone with suggestions?
    Thx in advance!
    Greeting
    Kristof

    Thanks for your reply Leonard,
Well there were 2 versions installed on the system. Version 5.x and 8.1.2. I uninstalled the first one so I'm sure he tries to use the newest one.
I must say that the software was developed using Acrobat 7, but if I'm not mistaken, the application uses the acrobat version that is available on the system it is running on, so that shouldn't matter...

  • Using native Logic OSC support with 3rd party plug-ins & new touchOSC maps

    Hi All.
Now that logic from 9.1.2 has native OSC support, I wandered if anyone has used it succesfully with their own customised touchOSC maps?
I'm not so interested in using touchsc as a transport/mixer for logic - which is what the default logic map that comes in touchosc s focused on, but more to control a few 3rd party plug-ins inside logic (FXPansion Geist & Strobe) - which would mean I need to create my own maps. It doesn't seem clear however if or how you can edit or use touchOSC maps which use the native OSC support bult into Logic
Anyone had any joy with this, or able top shed some light on possibilities & limitations?

For now they are OSCulator reliant, and that has some advantages: primarily that the user can easily remap anything that doesn't suit their needs. I've been using these for weeks and the combination has been rock solid so I wanted to go with it rather than wait for (and learn) the SDK.
The best part is that these bundles will include everything you need, including custom Kontakt multis, VSL matrix files and of course the OSCulator mappings - and building those may have caused carpal tunnel syndrome! Talk about a mammoth task... Anyway, the goal is for it to be an easy plug & play experience.
Trying to wrap up today or tomorrow - just waiting on some website reorganization...
    Stay in touch!

The one you are looking at I believe is an older model and does not have very good reviews for working with an AppleTV2 / iPad 2 setup.
Here is the one that has worked for our district:

I can't say if the one you are referring two works or not, however I can say that based on the reviews, it looks like you may run into problems with the $45 version.
