Using a projector with KeyNote/PowerPoint

How can I blank the output to the projector so I can work on the laptop to set up the next presentation for subsequent speakers? Easy on Windows (Fn F4 typically), can't see any way to do it with my Mac!

When using PowerPoint or Keynote with a projector (e.g., giving a presentation), the laptop display is blurry, although the projected image is clear.
I had that only once after updating to 10.6.8.
First Aid:
Connect projector before starting Keynote.
Set in System Settings - Displays - Arrangement different (matching) resolutions for projector and your display and look that "clone" is not checked.
Eventually uncheck "Automatically arrange brightness..." during presentation.
Cheers - Lupunus
PS ... After a major update (as 10.6.8 is) you are recommended to perform a permissions repair with the Disk Utility. Don't bother about upcoming warnings during that run, the ocour mostly as the repair is performed on a running system and opened files could not by touched by the tool.

  • Can I use a projector with my ipad2

Is it possible to use a projector with the ipad 2, my preference is for a HD projector

If you plan to play back protected iTunes store movies too, go for the HDMI adapter. It also has a socket for recharging while connected. Both are opposed to what the (otherwise, equally good-quality) VGA adapter does.

  • Can i use a Projector with iPad or iPad2?

Can I use a projector in the classroom with an iPad or iPad2?

With the iPad2, yes (except for a few apps where that ability was taken out - they seem to mostly be apps for movies/tv stations). With the iPad, not well - only a few apps have "video out' enabled on them.
Assuming you have  VGA connector, you will need to purchase the iPad VGA adapter.

  • Using Automator/Applescript with Keynote?

For a series of presentations I'm creating, on practically every slide, I have to delete a picture, then paste the replacement on the slide, resize that item, and reposition it on the slide (at the same location).
This seemed like a perfect use for Automator, and I recorded my steps in Automator, but I ran into a couple of questions after that.
    1) When I'm in Keynote, I don't see a command to run a script.
    2) I'm looking at the automation that was created, and the workflow includes "Type 600 px into the text field." But I'm concerned that I don't see anywhere in the workflow that specifies what property is being edited at that point.
    Chuck

    Thanks chuck,
I never thought to use Automator before but may give it a try now.
I'm pretty new to AS so don't quote me, I know some apps have a File Menu command to run scripts but in general *** are run from the script menu on RHS of Menubar, perhaps you need to activate a pref for that I can'r remeber how I got mine there. Applescripts can be run with Keynote but have limited use. It seems to me there is no property dictionary for Keynote items.
But i did find this snippet in somebody's applescript suggesting interaction via keyboard shortcuts is possible. Also controlling the slideshow is definitely support by the application dictionary.
    tell application “Keynote“
      activate
    end tell
    tell application “System Events“
      tell process “Keynote“
        keystroke “v“ using {command down}
      end tell
    end tell

  • Using RSS feeds with keynote

Does anyone have an idea how to use RSS feeds within keynote? I don't believe there is any embedded function, but hopefully there is a workaround. Could you download the RSS feed, then somehow reference the text in keynote? Any ideas?

    Welcome Wolf12358
Easy to do this in Quartz Composer a free developer tool for visual programming. Other route is if you have Keynote08 you can make a hyperlink to a webpage. Save the slide and open in Keynote09 in which this function has been depreciated for whatever reason. Not sure if the RSS feeds will render but give it a try. If you don't have KN08 but can post the URL somebody will make it and post it for you to dl.

  • Using a projector with my iphone

How do I show a film or a powerpoint (Keynote) presentation through a projector using my iphone?

I have much more experience with iPods and projectors, but I hope this is helpful anyway:
Films: Get the video into iTunes so it's on the iPod of your iPhone. Then you can show the video out to a projector. If you've got a cable connected, you'll be asked if you want "TV Out" or not. Cable info here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1454
In your Keynote software, when the presentation slides are finished, click "File", then "Export", and then choose "Images". Your Keynote slides will be saved to iPhoto (without any transitions). Through iTunes, select that album to be synced to the iPhone. Before you start, on iPhone, go to Settings, click Photos. "Play each slide" should be "manual" if available, otherwise, as long as possible. "Shuffle" should be off because you don't want those in random order.

  • Using digital projector with macbook

A basic question from an escaped PC user.
What keystroke is used to tell my macbook to send the display output to an external projector?
I need the equivalent of the F8 key I used on my work supplied PC laptop
I have purchased the link cable so the hardware side is OK .

As usual with a apple you don't need to do anything! I use mine for presentations and you just plug the projector in and hey presto.
You can adjust the screen setting in System prefs, Displays.
If you use iWork, Keynotes is great using this setup. You can run the display on the projector and get a real host of info. up on the MacBook display.

  • Why I can't use a projector with rented movies from ITunes

I rented a movie from ITunes, I downloaded to my Ipad and I tried to watch it in my projector, the communication with the projector is good, but when the movie start my IPad says that the display that I am using is not a supported display for protected material, but with Netflix it works perfectly. Can someone help me out here?

By default Apple does not allow you to project or put any rented material on "external" devices i.e screens or projectors
You may be better off contacting your local Apple Store

  • Using a projector with 17" imac

I got a new imac and have been trying use it with my epson 81p projector. In order to get it to work i have to change the resolution of the imac to that it shrinks the computer display and does not take advantage of the available screen area. In addition it beats up the display of small text so obviously this is not the way to go.
I guess the projector does not match up with the new HD screen dimensions?
Do I need a different projector?
intl imac   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

What do you want the audio in to do?
You can't just plug it in and talk to Nana in Holland.
You have to use some program which utilizes the audio input.
Speech can hear me just fine... but nothing else can.
    What can't hear you?
iTunes, Safari and Mail (etc...) don't use the audio input.
I think I read somewhere that I buy something to make it work?
Not to make is work but something to use it with.
If you buy a boat and have no lake, it's not gonna do anything except look cool.

  • Question about using a Projector with MacBook Pro

Sorry if this is the wrong post location, but I figured people here would be the most knowledgeable about the topic.
I'm looking into getting a portable projector for under $450 that will work with my 2009 MacBook Pro for: a) watching instructional videos and b) doing some web surfing and a little programing. I can't get a monitor because I need portability and a picture at least 30" due to some visions issues.
I've looked into a few including the Optoma PK301 (sold at apple) and the Samsung 410ME (higher lumens, but lower res). Most of them have a max resolution of 800x600 and I'm wondering how that will appear on a 30"-45" projection? Will websites wider than 800 pixels be cut off? Does that mean a video with a resolution of 960x540 will be cut off or look funny?
The PK301 has a Native WVGA (854 x 480), but "supports" WXGA (1280 x 800) through VGA adapter; HD (1080i) through HDMI. So how will that render on the wall?
I sincerely appreciate your time and help.

I bought the PK301 becasue it has great reviews. But not on the MAC products... If any mac techs are around... appreciate some help here. Thanks.

  • Using a Projector with Windows XP on my MAcBook Pro

My MacBook Pro connects fine to my projector when booted on Mac OS 10.4.8. When I boot on Windows XP (Bootcamp) the bootup screen makes connection initially and shows on the screen, but before it boots all the way up it loses connection and the projector goes out "looking for signal". Nothing I do remakes the connection.
    Any suggestions

Someone who actually uses Bootcamp would be able to verify this for you, but from the sounds of it, the video drivers for Windows may not support what you want to do.
Like i said though, you'll need someone whos tried all this to verify as i prefer Virtual Machines to Bootcamp.

  • Using three monitors with keynotes?

I have three monitors on my mac book and want to use the presenter view on two of the monitors and the show on the third.  Is there an app or patch I can use to do this?

    Thanks very much, perfect!
Only thing is you don't need to press the "?" button. But it seems a little temperamental when you option + click + drag. I found you to have to deselect but clicking anywhere in the window and reselected the window you wish to mirror (which I assume press the "?" does the same thing).
I never thought it was going to be this simple, I was sure I would need to install a third party app or something.
    Thanks again!!!!!!!
