Using a replacement router

I have just got a TP Link WDR4300 router to replace my appaulingly bad HH3, which could hold a connection for more than 20 seconds.
After following the quick setup guide in the router when I try and visit a webpage I am redirected to the BT Wholesale Connection problem page. How do I sort out this problem as it is driving me crazy!!

AndyCoffin wrote:
hummmmm same as my 3500v1, i just ask as when i used it i was getting major packet loss (about 60% odd) at the time i thought it was a mtu error but now im not to sure, had to go back to the hh3 which strangely enough is now behaving itself and the packet loss is virtually nil
Hi there,
Have you checked to see whether there's a firmware update for your 3500?
I'm using a WNR3500L without any problems whatsoever and have attached a screenie to show my firmware version.
I hope this info helps.

Okay so just as the title says how do i use a second router? I got a cisco valet router... I have it connected with see as in pic i connect from my router Internet port to wan port and the ethernet lan port to the ethernet lan port on verizon fios and no work please help...

OK, so with this, we have a few options. You appear to have a MoCa connection to the ONT, hence the coaxial cable being present.
1: The ActionTec can be bridged to the Valet router. This will not require any additional cabling, however it will require a small amount of work to have working. You will also require the ActionTec still in the mix, even though it will not be acting as a router anymore with this configuration.
Visit http://www.dslreports.com/faq/16077 and look at Option 4. There is a thread linked that will allow you to set up the ActionTec as just a MoCa bridge, and will pass the Public IP to your router. You will, in order for this to work once the ActionTec is bridged, need to connect the cable from your Valet router's Internet port, to the ActionTec's LAN port and nothing else goes to the ActionTec. From this point, your Valet should run as your primary and everything should connect through your Valet. If you are adding another router, a Netgear N300, you should perform the LAN to LAN setup, which we will talk about once you've got the Valet working correctly. LAN to LAN configs require a custom setup, so do not set up the Netgear for now.
2: This is my preferred method, which would be to run an Ethernet cable to the ONT. Option 6 in the FAQ. This will require spaking to Verizon to have them move your ONT to Ethernet, but once they do this, you can disconnect the Coaxial Cable from your ActionTec router, and plug in your CAT5/CAT6 cable from the ONT to the ActionTec's Internet/WAN port. Use the ActionTec to ensure everything is working after the switchover, and once off the phone, log into the ActionTec, perform a DHCP Release, and then prompty power off the ActionTec. Once this is done, plug the CAT6 cable into your Valet router's Internet port. You should from this point, be able to connect to the Cisco, and if the DHCP Lease was broken successfully, the Cisco should begin serving up your Internet connection. If it does not, leave the Cisco powered off for a few hours to break the DHCP lease, and then power it up. If the Valet does not work, still, give the Valet a factory reset and set up this router again, with the Ethernet cable from the ONT connected to it.
I would just take a good luck at the FAQ linked above again, and see what would work the best. Easiest thing to do is to get the ONT moved to Ethernet, which allows you to eliminate the ActionTec unless you need it in the future for TV service, and also allows you to use any router with ease.
Once the Valet is up and running and holds your Public IP address from Verizon (use http://whatismyip.com/ to determine this) , and also serves up IPs to devices on your network, post back and we can help you set up the Netgear. If you have any issues while setting this up, fall back to the ActionTec. It's factory reset will work without configuration needed, regardless of you being on Coax or Ethernet.

  • How can I set up a guest access point with a Time Capsule and an Airport Extreme? I am using a Telus router with the Time Capsule used as a wireless access point (bridge mode). I don't want the guest access point to have access to my network.

How can I set up a guest access point with a Time Capsule and an Airport Extreme? I am using a Telus router with the Time Capsule used as a wireless access point (bridge mode). I don't want the guest access point to have access to my network.

The Guest Network function of the Time Capsule and AirPort Extreme cannot be enabled when the device is in Bridge Mode. Unfortunately, with another router...the Telus...upstream on your network, Bridge Mode is indicated as the correct setting for all other routers on the network.
If you can replace the Telus gateway with a simple modem (that performs no routing functions), you should be able to configure either the Time Capsule or the AirPort Extreme....whichever is connected to the modem....to provide a Guest Network.

  • Is it possible to skip the use of a router to get wireless from imac to macbook? (both osx10.5.8)

Current setup is my imac (osk 10.5.8) is plugged into my dlink router. Wife gets her connection for her macbook (aslo osx 10.5.8) wirelessly from the router.
Is it possible to skip the use of a router? That is, plug the ISP's inbound cable to my mac and somehow my wife's macbook be able to wireless connect to my iMac?
Just looking to get around the router that is a possible cause for slowness.

Some sort of router is needed for both of you to share the cable service. Is the router yours or part of the cable modem provided by the cable company? If the latter ask the cable company to service the device to be sure everything is working properly. If you have a separate modem and the router is yours, then replace it.
Why do you believe your wireless is slow?
I would also consider upgrading your computers' OS X.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;

    Really - are you sure?
    I point to http://www.dslreports.com/faq/16077
Only option 4, FIOS -TV (VOD and Guide) is unsupported.
    4. Internet Bridge
Bridging the Actiontec passes all WAN traffic through, making the user's router primary

  • Using your own router - out of warranty

I'm having router problems - i know its an issue with the router, the number of devices connected and the fact that the router itself is quite old. I don't need to troubleshoot the router (which I've done with support). I was told I might need a replacement router. I work with computers and have plenty of great routers available - and can't really afford to spend £70 on  a router, especially for one that's not as good as what I have available to me for free. I'm also aware of how to track back to my username and password  to 'hack into' my own broadband account by discovering my username and password - but I know its out of Sky's Ts an Cs. So my question to Sky is this: Given that I have been a Sky customer for 6 or 7 years, given that my router is not up to the job and given that I can't afford to buy a new router, nor would I want to when I have about 20 sitting in a drawer. Given that I could change providers and get a free router, or use whatever router I want with BT, virgin, Talk Talk etc. And, finally, given that I've otherwise had a great servive from the broadband itself, and don't really want to have to change. Given all the above, Sky, what would you suggest I do?

Firstly, are you an ADSL or Fibre customer as your posts so far don't make it clear?
If you are an ADSL customer, you are free to use any router you wish although, obviously, Sky can't provide you support for it. The login details are easily found by searching this forum for the phrase "own router"
If you are a Fibre customer, then as  (and the T&C's) has pointed out you MUST use the Sky Hub to connect to the service. You can piggy back a second router and/or wireless access point if you wish but the Sky Hub must establish the connection. Any discussion beyond that is not permitted on the forum as it is against the house rules to discuss anything that would lead to a breach of T&C's.

  • Need more Airport inputs. Use an old router?

Several months ago I replaced my NetGear WGT624 v2 wireless router with the Airport Extreme and added an Airport Express for bringing in my printer for both the Mac and Vista PC to use.
Everything works fine except I have more Macs and PCs than ports on the Airport. Two are connected with wireess but I need one more port to connect a sever used for back up.
I believe I can use the NetGear router by turning off the NetGear wireless radio portion and then connecting it "somehow" to one input port on the Extreme. Then the 4 input ports on the NetGear become available.
The help I need is how should I connect the NetGear to the Extreme? NetGear WAN out to one of the Extreme inputs?
If not, what is the proper way to do it?
    Thanks!

The help I need is how should I connect the NetGear to the Extreme? NetGear WAN out to one of the Extreme inputs?
I believe you would have at least two options:
    1) AirPort Extreme \[LAN port] > Ethernet > \[LAN port] Netgear
    2) AirPort Extreme \[LAN port] > Ethernet > \[WAN port] Netgear. With this option you will need to disable the Netgear's NAT & DHCP functions.

  • Deskjet 6988 replacing router

Replacing very old router in network that had Deskjet 6988 connected wirelessly (this printer is 2 years old).  No problem getting network up.  But the printer not so easy!  The 6988 doesn't have fancy welcome back wizards, etc., menus from the printer, etc.  Has just the little icon that shows network connection, little icon that shows  wireless on.  Following instructions for replacing router involves using ethernet cables to communicate first, then removing.
Have followed this multiple times -- the icons show nice steady light like it is connected -- but it does not print, get the "print spooler is unable to connect to your printer" message.  Have tried turning off firewalls during installation, different security settings, still can't get it up.  Desk is littered with printouts from printer of network settings etc. which show the wireless is connected.
I think it also ought to show up in the router listings of attached devices -- but I don't think it does. (Can't actually get it to print with the Ethernet as the connection either.)  I kind of remember having a similar hard time with it originally, but then it was under warranty.
    This question was solved.

Here is the link to the manual page.  Look in the Networking Guide.
I would recommend resetting the printer to factory defaults (page 10), then follow the new printer install instructions.

  • Wireless Extender or Replacement Router?

    Hi all
I have a BT HH3. In parts of my house I can't get a wireless connection and realistically I can't run Ethernet cables upstairs.
I've been looking at wireless extenders but I wondered if just a replacement router would solve my range issue? Has anyone looked into this and if so which router might be recommended? Also if I could still expect BT Vision to work with anything other than a HH?
    Many thanks

Many thanks for the reply. My HH3 is Version B. Is the powerline extender not an option then?
If it is still an option, how does it work - what I mean to ask is how does it 'talk' to my HH?
    Thanks again.
Extenders do not work properly with the version B, if you try and roam between the home hub, and the extender wifi network.
Once you connect to the extender network, you will not be able to connect back to the HH3B wifi network, unless you turn off the extender, and wait a few minutes.
A universal wireless repeater will work, as it isolates the device MAC address.
There is one solution on this page.
    Increasing wireless range using a TP-Link TL-WA701ND
You need to use the wireless repeater option.
Or, one from the BT Shop

  • How to use independent replacement paths for same KF over several months?

    Dear Experts,
I have a query requirement to show KF values for items that meet a condition on another KF for a five month period.  I know that I can accomplish this using a replacement path variable on item for one month at a time, however I am not sure how to do this for multiple months in one query.
    This is an example:
    Month 1
    KF 1 > 0 for Items A & B.........so show KF 2 for for Items A & B
    Month 2
    KF 1 > 0 for Items B & C.........so show KF 2 for for Items B & C
    Month 3
    KF 1 > 0 for Items A & C.........so show KF 2 for for Items A & C
Thanks in advance for your help!

Ok, Nancy, code copy/ paste did work fine.
    what does this mean:
"Change the image in the properties panel to display your new image."
    (the image is displaying ok)
NEverthesless, I think I got Murrays old notes.
Here is my new version of Murrays writing, easiest way I think:
You open up a pre-existing html, say Chicago. Then drag over with pointer to the new jpeg you want (Buffalo). It replaces Chicago with the buffalo jpeg, all links work perfectly. Then do a save as called Buffalo.

Hi - I have an emac or a mac minin which have a USb boradband modem. I use airport from the emac to allow me to connect from an airport enabled powerbook when it is at home.
Rather than getting an airport card for the mac mini, could I use that as the primary conection to the internet (via the USB modem) and then get a wirless router (eg netgear MR814) an I use a wireless router to share the USB broadband connection to the 2 airport enabled macs?

  • How to use two versions routing in SAP on different time period?

    Hi PP experts,
There is a material Material-100 linked Routing-A and Routing-B. I would like to use Material-100/Routing-A combination during period 29.04.2015-30.05.2015, and using Material-100/Routing-B combination during period 01.06.2015-31.12.9999.
Could you please kindly guide me how to do it in SAP? Thank you.
    Best Regards,
    Bu Fanchao

    Hi Amit,
Below is my thinking, please kindly help me check.
    1. Due to routing-A is existed in SAP with period 29.04.2015-31.12.9999. So I need to change the valid-to-date from 31.12.9999 to 30.05.2015 via ECM.
    2. Create routing-B by CA01 with period 01.06.2015-31.12.9999.
    3. Create production-version-1 with routing-A/BOM during 29.04.2015-30.05.2015. And Create production-version-2 with routing-B/BOM during 01.06.2015-31.12.9999.
My new question: Do I have to create production-version to achieve it? Does SAP system can choose routing automatically without production-version?
    Best Regards,
