Using a RPC in a Composite Applications

Hi guys,
I'm (still) reading the <a href="https://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/docs/library/nw/netweaverdevelopersguide2004s/nwdg2004s/creating%20composite%20applications.ca">Creating Composite Applications Manual</a>. The example "My First Composite Application" is (finally) running now. Now I want to import an existing RPC in this application.
The manual explains me how to import this RPC by using "CAF | Administrative Tools | External Service Configuration" and it works well. But where to go next? How can I use this imported RPC in ConfigBrowser? When I try to select it by using the "Repository Browser" I can't find anything.
Could anybody give me a hint?
Best regards
Martin

I assume you're talking about consuming RFC from your composite. If you look at the tutorial "95 Implementing Remote Persistency in CAF using RFC (PDF/Service)" https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/db05ee2a-0a01-0010-63b6-967c83928939 from the CAF Tutorial Center SAP Composite Application Framework - CAF Tutorial Center [original link is broken], you should get what you want.

  • Problem using misc jar-Files in Composite Application

    Hi there,
    I want to use different jar-Files in my Composite Application on SAP Netweaver 7.3.
    I have created an external Lib DC where I have inserted the libs. After that I created an enterprise EAR and added the dependency to the PP of the external lib DC.
    After that I added the a dependency to my CAF-EAR. But I cannot access the mehtods and functions from my jar files.
    What's wrong there?
    Another question: Is it possible to add the jar-files directly to my CAF-EAR without creating the external library DC and adding a dependency?
    Any help would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks

    Hi, I've downloaded Jacob and got it running on my installation by doing the following:
    1. Download http://danadler.com/jacob/jacobBin_17.zip.
    2. Extract to Jdeveloper10g/jdev/lib/ext/Jacob
    3. Copy jacob.dll to c:/windows/system32
    4. Add JDeveloper10g/jdev/lib/ext/Jacob/jacob.jar to JDev user libraries, calling it 'Jacob'
    5. Add the 'Jacob' library to the project.
    6. Create a word document at c:/java/jacob/file_in.doc
    7. Create a new class with the following code:
    package view;
    import com.jacob.*;
    import com.jacob.activeX.ActiveXComponent;
    import com.jacob.com.Dispatch;
    import com.jacob.com.Variant;
    public class TestJacob
    public TestJacob()
    * @param args
    public static void main(String[] args)
    TestJacob testJacob = new TestJacob();
    testJacob.runTest();
    public void runTest()
    boolean tVisible = true;
    String sDir = "c:\\java\\jacob\\";
    String sInputDoc = sDir + "file_in.doc";
    ActiveXComponent oWord = new ActiveXComponent("Word.Application");
    oWord.setProperty("Visible",new Variant(tVisible));
    Object oDocuments = oWord.getProperty("Documents").toDispatch();
    Object oDocument = Dispatch.call(oDocuments, "Open", sInputDoc).toDispatch();

    What is Composite Application Services? What is it's use?
    How can I create one?
    Please give some sample scenarios so that I can try working it out.
    Regards
    Aparnna

    Hi Aparnna,
    You should use CAS or SAP Netweaver Composite Application Framework when you want to develop a composite application based on Netweaver platform. By composite application means an user-centric application based on a business process which is composed by services provided by backend legacy or enterprise systems. In CAF/CAS perspective in NWDS you can create a CAF core project and define your business entities with its corresponding access and lifecycle methods. These methods can be exposed as web services to be consumed by the CAF UI like Web Dynpro or Visual Composer.

  • Using Composite Application Framework to deliver global HR applications

    Hello,
    I'm new to Composite applications but have experience with Web development and Web services.
    Our business case is the following:
    - Working on HR applications
    - The customer is a group made of 3 companies.
    - We have 2 separate back-end system, one global for the group and one dedicated the company
    - Some HR business processes need to be performed on both the global and the company system.  Exemple: Hire of an employee.  Depending on the company the employee will work for, some data needs to be created on the company system and on the global system
    I believe this can be achieved with Composite Application Framework.  I guess, front-end application has to be build (using Composite Designer?).  What I don't know is what type of technology is used to build the front-end application?
    Finally, the idea behind this is to replace the current solution: multiple interfaces between the group system and the company system.
    Thanks for your feedback, any suggestion or tip would be most than welcome!
    Laurent

    While I was searching the web for some answers, I found out you can create web based composite applications using web dynpros for Java.
    Is it possible to do so with web dynpro for ABAP?  I guess we can build an abap web dynpro application that connects to different web services from different back-ends to retrieve and update data.  Can anyone confirm this?
    Thanks,
    Laurent

  • How to use external libraries jar files in the composite application?

    Hi,
    I have some external jars files (which consists of java classes) that I would like to use in my composite application.
    I have created a DC with type as external library for the jars.  However, I don't know how to specify the DC to be used in my caf application.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks.
    Regards,
    Fui Voon

    Hi,
    My jar files consists only java classes and a manifest.mf. The files are compiled using jdk 1.4.2-b28.  Will this be any issue?
    It seems that if I ignore the error and continue step 7 which is to do deployment of the ear, the error given is
    Cannot update it.
    Caused by: com.sap.engine.library.bytecode.cf.CFException: Invalid constant pool tag, 60 at index 41.
    Does anyone know what that mean?
    Is there any sample that teach how to deploy external libraries as bundled library?
    Thanks.

  • Compatability of running composite application built using CAF

    Hi all,
    I want to know one basic question about using CAF tool.
    Suppose if I use CAF of Netweaver 2004s (Netweaver AS 7.00) to build a composite application, is it possible to deploy the solution to the customer who is having Netweaver AS 620 or 630?
    Appreciate your help. Thanks in advance
    Regards
    Guru

    Hi Gurunathan,
    That's not really possible. You need to deploy the solution to the same J2EE engine version as NWDS where you built your composite application.
    Even SP level must be the same. I recently met the problem that a composite application was built under NWDS 7.0 SP8 and even deployment to 7.0 SP7 J2EE engine was failed because of versions incompatibility!
    CAF, J2EE engine and NWDS versions must be the same, it's very important for consistency.
    Best regards,

  • How to use the same port twice in composite application

    Hi,
    I have deployed a Dot Net web service which has 2 operation (say provider1 and provider2) both will accepts and return a string. This Dot Net web service has one port and 2 partner links (one for each operation). I created a client wsdl which also has 2 operations(say client1 and client2). Client wsdl contains one port and a partner link.
    I also created 2 different BPEL processes for client1-provider1 and client2-provider2 operations, i want to create a composite application with both this bpel. If I deploy my composite application I can able to see only one connection from client1-provider1. How to add soap binding manully so that I can test both the processes. • Using different RFC's in one Application / Entity Service?

    Hello *,
    I just want to create my first Composite Application Service but before I begin I have some questions.
    The service will read out material master data from PLM. For that it has some findBy-operations with full-text search (creationDate, MatNr. ...) which return a result list and one operation which returns the material object for a given MatNr.
    For this operations I need to call different RFC's which are imported by external services.
    Now my questions:
    1. What kind of service should wrap my external services and provide the operations? Should I use one or more entity service to wrap external services and then realize the operations in an application service? Or should I just take an application service without entity services?
    2. The created service should not only be an internal CAF  service but also a Web service? How can I realize this?
    Thanks for your answers.
    Best regards
    Joschi

    Ok, thanks a lot. So nearly everything's clear now. Only one question remains:
    > 6. mark the entity service as "remote" and create a
    > web service from it
    > (note: this requires NW04s SP8)
    Is this possible? I can't find any checkbox to mark an entity service as "remote" like in an application service (NWDS 7.0.07 and NW04s SP8).
    So I have to map the findBy operations to an application service and create a web service from it!?

  • Exception in calling a web service from a composite application service

    Hi,
    I have created a composite application service with external service as a web service. My web service is deployed on localhost as well as I am running my composite application service in localhost. When i try to test the application service, I get the exception
    com.sap.caf.mp.base.exception.InvocationException: Invalid parameters
    The exception happens in MPConnector.java 'process' method where I am calling the execute operation on the service.
    I have tried testing this through Service Browser as well as creating a callable object on the Application service and testing the callable object.
    I am using the NWDS 7.0.06 version
    and EP installed on my machine is the Sneak Preview 7.0 sp 7
    Will appreciate all help in this regard.
    Thanks,
    Prachi

    Hi Navneet,
    I have verified the input/output parameters. They are simple types. All are Strings. Nothing really complex there.
    I have the Service Exceptions added already.
    And definitely the permissions are disabled but still this isn't working.
    Any more clues might be helpful.
