Using a second-hand device

I'm using my husband's old iPhone and the device is still set up on itunes for him (his apps, music, photos etc). How can I tell itunes to use my iTunes account for his device - my iPhone has been lost/stolen.

On your husbands's iPhone, turn off iMessage, FaceTime & delete the iCloud account. Then, Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content & Settings. You can then restore it from your most recent iPhone backup & sync your stuff to it.

I had trouble updating iPhoto so I uninstalled it but now I can't reinstall it. I'm using a second hand iMac so I'm not using the Apple ID that was used to first register it. When I go to the App Store and try to download iPhoto it just says (accept) I click this but nothing happens ?
    Please help

Maybe you need to register the computer with Apple:

  • How do i register a second hand device to my apple id if it was previously registered on another person's apple id

last year i bought a macbook pro 17 inch from someone who was't using it.  now, i was trying to register it on my support profile and when i enter the serial number i get the message that it has been associated with another apple id.  how can i get this type of device registered on mine? i dont have any contact with the previous owner so is there a way to reset this setting from apple itself?  please advise, thanks!

Unless the previous owner de-registers it, there is no way for you to do so. Is the unit still covered by warranty? If not, there really isn't any need to register it.
Just out of curiosity: which Mac OS version is the machine running? And did the seller give you the original install disks?

  • Using Raid and enabling use of second sound devic.K8N/SLI 7100 mobo.I'm lost

My specs are in my signature, question is should I configure my hd's in Raid, will I get a performance increase? and what is the actual process in doing so? I have a floppy that came with my mobo titled raid configurator something, Keep in mind these hd's are Ultra ATA/100 with 8mb cache and not sata or scsi, and I have two sound devices, the onbard sb live and a pci sb ls.....can i use ls for my mic?....how should I do it? I heard someone mention doi9ng the same thing before i just can't find the post....thank you

RAID is worht the speed.  Just configure it in the BIOS and instal Win like on a regular drive.  XP SP2 needs a 4K cluster size to instal IIRC.

  • Using a second-hand iphone

A friend just gave me her old iphone 3 so I have two questions:
    1. If I sync it to my Macbook will I lose all the existing downloaded apps?
    2. If I try to get any new apps it's asking for her itunes password.  How do we reset this to one I can use?
    Thanks

    1. Yes.
    2. All apps - all paid and free apps include DRM protection which is tied to the iTunes account that was used to download the apps. Downloading app updates for the apps downloaded with your friend's iTunes account will require using your friend's iTunes account and password.
    3. Logout of the existing iTunes account at Settings > Store at the bottom. Select the existing iTunes account followed by selecting Sign Out. Follow this by siging in with your iTunes account.

  • How do I use a second hand iPod?

I have been given an 80gb iPod Classic by a friend who got a new one and has now gone travelling. How do I get it to work for me as I don't have access to her computer? Of course when I plug it it it doesn't show on the desktop or in iTunes, I'm not worried about losing the music that is already on the iPod.
    Any ideas?

Go in to your local AT&T store. Tell them you want to switch over to the iPhone. They will need to give you a new MicroSIM for the iPhone and get the information registered to enable things like visual voice mail. You will also need to subscribe to a data plan if you do not subscribe to one already.

  • Second hand ipod touch 5

Can someone help me how to contact Apple via email? I have difficulties calling their 1-800 contacts. I have some concerns that i want apple to receive.
    Thanks,

    Hi jaebl04,
I was afraid that the issue might be Activation Lock. Apple will not be able to help you. The only way to get around the Activation Lock is through the person who is signed onto iCloud and Find My iPhone on the device. Here are the instructions for doing this:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4515?viewlocale=en_US
If the previous owner will not cooperate, then see if you can get your money back. The owner should be helping you to get around this issue, and if the ID signed onto the device is not the owner, then the owner probably sold you a stolen device. Here are some instructions to help you in future when you purchase a second-hand device. Following these instructions will help you to avoid the kind of underhanded tactics apparently being used by the person who sold you the device:
How do I check for Activation Lock before purchasing a used device?
When purchasing an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from someone other than Apple or an authorized Apple reseller, it is up to you to ensure that the device has been erased and is no longer linked to the previous owner’s account.
Follow each of these steps to make sure that you can use the device you purchase:
Turn the device on and slide to unlock.
If the passcode lock screen or the home screen appears, the device has not been erased. Ask the seller to completely erase the device by going to Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings. Do not take ownership of any used iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch until it has been erased.
    Begin the device setup process.
After choosing a language, choosing a country, and connecting to a network, the device will begin activation. If you are asked for the previous owner’s Apple ID and password, the device is still linked to their account. Hand the device back to the seller and ask them to enter their password. If the previous owner is not present, they can remove the device from their account by signing in to icloud.com/find. Do not take ownership of any used iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch until it has been removed from the previous owner’s account.
You will know that a device is ready for you to use when you are asked to “Set up your iPhone", “Set up your iPad", or “Set up your iPod” during the device setup process.
These instructions are also contained in this link that gives you all of the information about Activation Lock:
    ACTIVATION LOCK
Sorry for your troubles. And sorry you were the victim of an unscrupulous person. If the seller is on the up and up, they will help you to resolve this, or will give you your money back.
    Again, sorry for your troubles,
    GB

You can't do anything. You have encountered the activation lock. Unless you have some sort of contact with the previous owner you have bought a very expensive paper weight.
You can find out more about activation lock from Apple's site here: Find My iPhone Activation Lock - Apple Support

The Apple ID and Password that was Originally used to Activate the iDevice is required.
If you cannot get this information from the seller
Removing a device from a previous owner’s account
You need to return the Device for a refund, as you will not be able to re-activate it.

Restore the device to factory settings with iTunes.
Then launch the App Store app on the iPad and sign in with your Apple iD and password:

    Hello jimmy ii
The only option is to contact that person to have them remove Activation Lock from the iPhone. They can do it online and do not have to come to you. Check out the article below for more information.

  • Please help. ive bought a second hand ipod nano, when i connect it to my  pc it recognises it as a sigma mass usb device, yet its a 8gb ipod nano, and i tunes does not recognise it, im running on windows vista basic yet my own 80g classic ipod runs perfect

please help. ive bought a second hand ipod nano, when i connect it to my pc, it does not recognise it in itunes, yet it comes up as a sigma mass usb device. its an ipod nano 8gb?. im running on windows vista,my own ipod classic runs fine.

there is a good chance that this can be related to bad contact in USB lead.. e.g not enough power from IPOD to PC so that pc cannot recognise it. Where I work I get alot of USB devices on pc's that are not recognised and most of the time it is the connection to the device that is not good enough because the flat end of the USB adapter has been gradually bent over time just slightly and now contact is not good. It can also be todo with drivers or If you are using it through a USB hub.
so if it is not working through USB hub try direct. also try in back of PC as these Ports or direct access to main board to pc and would be less trouble some if there was a voltage loss from mainboard in pc to front of unit.

Sorry, there is nothing you can do until the device is removed from the sellers Apple ID.
Without that, your device can't be used, check these articles:

  • If I buy a second hand nano, can I use it on my itunes?

I have been offered a second hand nano and was wondering if it is registered to their itunes can i use it on mine? If it hasn't been registered by them I presume it will be ok.

Sure. If you allow iTunes to blat the content already on it, and sync to your iTunes, it'll be yours.
iTunes doesn't really care about the device - it cares about your account - any device that's synced to your account is "yours" as far as iTunes cares.
