Using a second modem

Is it possible for me to use a modem I have which would be hard wired for my pc whilst still having my HH3 connected for my laptop?
The HH3 is in the main socket, the speedtouch modem would be on an extension.

Only if it is a dial-up modem which places call over your phone line, or maybe makes fax calls.
You can only connect one broadband (ADSL) modem to your phone line at a time.

  • How can i use a second router to replace verizon fios router?

Okay so just as the title says how do i use a second router? I got a cisco valet router... I don't know how to use it because the verizon router/modem is wierd i know how to use a router if i only had a modem but fios gives router/modem so how can i use my 2nd router? The current verizon fios router/modem is b/g mode and i wanna change to b/g/n so i can get a better speed from my internet... SO how can i use my 2nd router? I tried this http://www.dslreports.com/faq/verizonfios/3.0_Networking#12506 but i don't get it can someone guide me better or make a video explaination on how to use a 2nd router? I have it connected with see as in pic i connect from my router Internet port to wan port and the ethernet lan port to the ethernet lan port on verizon fios and no work please help...

OK, so with this, we have a few options. You appear to have a MoCa connection to the ONT, hence the coaxial cable being present.
1: The ActionTec can be bridged to the Valet router. This will not require any additional cabling, however it will require a small amount of work to have working. You will also require the ActionTec still in the mix, even though it will not be acting as a router anymore with this configuration.
Visit http://www.dslreports.com/faq/16077 and look at Option 4. There is a thread linked that will allow you to set up the ActionTec as just a MoCa bridge, and will pass the Public IP to your router. You will, in order for this to work once the ActionTec is bridged, need to connect the cable from your Valet router's Internet port, to the ActionTec's LAN port and nothing else goes to the ActionTec. From this point, your Valet should run as your primary and everything should connect through your Valet. If you are adding another router, a Netgear N300, you should perform the LAN to LAN setup, which we will talk about once you've got the Valet working correctly. LAN to LAN configs require a custom setup, so do not set up the Netgear for now.
2: This is my preferred method, which would be to run an Ethernet cable to the ONT. Option 6 in the FAQ. This will require spaking to Verizon to have them move your ONT to Ethernet, but once they do this, you can disconnect the Coaxial Cable from your ActionTec router, and plug in your CAT5/CAT6 cable from the ONT to the ActionTec's Internet/WAN port. Use the ActionTec to ensure everything is working after the switchover, and once off the phone, log into the ActionTec, perform a DHCP Release, and then prompty power off the ActionTec. Once this is done, plug the CAT6 cable into your Valet router's Internet port. You should from this point, be able to connect to the Cisco, and if the DHCP Lease was broken successfully, the Cisco should begin serving up your Internet connection. If it does not, leave the Cisco powered off for a few hours to break the DHCP lease, and then power it up. If the Valet does not work, still, give the Valet a factory reset and set up this router again, with the Ethernet cable from the ONT connected to it.
I would just take a good luck at the FAQ linked above again, and see what would work the best. Easiest thing to do is to get the ONT moved to Ethernet, which allows you to eliminate the ActionTec unless you need it in the future for TV service, and also allows you to use any router with ease.
Once the Valet is up and running and holds your Public IP address from Verizon (use http://whatismyip.com/ to determine this) , and also serves up IPs to devices on your network, post back and we can help you set up the Netgear. If you have any issues while setting this up, fall back to the ActionTec. It's factory reset will work without configuration needed, regardless of you being on Coax or Ethernet.

  • Problem on loading DAT file when using 3G network modem

    Hello,
I'm having some strange problem when I'm trying to load my game on the part where DAT file with Map Object is read, using 3G Network Modem. This issue started when I migrated my applet from one host to another. Everything loads well, until the user authentication. On user authenticatiom I'm recieving map name which I should load and show the user on it. I'm recieving the message where map name is mentioned, but after, when the process of loading map begins(when I need to read DAT file which is only 15KB) application blocks(browser and JVM also block).
I thought it could be because of slow network communication, but it's not the reason, since I have tested(using Bandwidth limiter software) with 5 KBs/Second and it loads well and application is running well.
Any clue why this can happen? If code is needed I'll post some pieces related to the process of map creation.

You have to upload it with FileReference.upload() to a PHP
(or other server-side) script which saves it to a folder on the
server. When the DataEvent.UPLOAD_COMPLETE_DATA event has been
dispatched you can then use the FileReference.name to load from the
file on the server just like any other image.

  • Can I Split Coax for TV and Add a Second Modem for Internet?

Wireless does not work throught the house and I need a wired connection in room upstairs.  There is no way to get another coax up to that room from basement so I guess I need a second modem.  Is there a way to use the TV coax that is already wired into room and split it so I can connect a modem and a TV to the cable?  Would prefer not to have a second modem if there is another way to do it.  Thanks.

you will need a 1ghz splitter, and a second device though.  You will need a NIM 100, or an ECB2200 those are moca/coax to ethernet bridges for FiOS.    Or a 2nd router (super cheap on ebay)

  • Can I use a second Airport Express unit to printe wirelessly?

I have an Airport Express unit connected to my amplifier and my modem in order to listen to music wirelessly.  I would like to use my Cannon ip4300 printer the same way.  Can I use a second Airport Express unit to connect the printer to my modem?  If so, how is it done?  I am concerned about a conflict between the two Airport Express units.  Thank you.

I do just this with a ip4200 printer - you "extend" the Airport network with the second Airport then plug the printer into the USB port, (you could plug it into the USB port of the first Airport as well)
In the Airport utility (use 5.6 or 5.6.1) select the Printers tab and it should be there.

  • Time Capsule second Modem connection problem.

I bought my new 2TB Time Capsule, and when I set it up for the first time at my office it worked as it was designed to. But Later I got my time capsule to my home and I am trying to connect it to my home Modem and wifi, The amber light is flashing and I am not able to connect to my Time capsule. I have no idea what to do.
Is there any one Who have a solution for this problem, when connecting to the second modem my Time capsule is not working.
I need help to solve this problem, I want to use the Time capsule at home as well as at office.

This will be next to impossible.. the TC will need a full factory reset to work in your home setup.. It simply remembers too much of the office setup to work in the home. The TC is not made to be transported.. it is a network router.
If you want to use it purely as a backup.. then I recommend you use an apple router like airport extreme at both your work and home location.. then you can use the TC as a simple plug in device.. bridged with no other functionality. It is very expensive though for this job.. an external USB drive plugged into your computer will be faster, cheaper and more reliable.

  • New to FiOS, can I use my own modem and router

I saw several questions similar to mine, but none that I saw answered my question for my scenario. I am sorry if this is a duplicate. I am new to FiOS. I have no other services from Verizon and do not plan to get any. No phone, no television, nothing. Just Internet. God willing, the installation will take place in two days. My house already has coaxial cabling. I have my own cable modem, a SURFboard SB6121, which goes to my router, a TP Link TL-WR941ND. None of my equipment advertises that it is FiOS compatible. I've seen other people asking about using their own modem and router, but in those cases the scenario involved other bundled services, and I understand a FiOS router is necessary to forward ports to television, phone, and computers. However, in my very simple scenario, can the Verizon optical network terminal simply feed its output to my coax, from there to my modem, then router, then comptuers? Is there any reason that wouldn't work? Verizon technical support just gave me a machine that wanted to help me troubleshoot my Internet connection, and I couldn't get from there to a human. Thanks in advance for the help!

Banish the word and the device called "modem" from your home when using FiOS.  FiOS does not use modems.  Your cable modem is useless with FiOS.  Do not plug it in. FiOS uses routers.  The router connects to the ONT's WAN port using MoCA (coax) or Ethernet.  The installer will enable one of the ONT's WAN ports.  If you order 150Mbps or higher speeds, they will have to use Ethernet.  For slower speeds, coax is the default.  Many installers will use Ethernet if you ask nicely, but usually only if it isn't too much work.  Make sure it's easy to connect a router to the ONT using Ethernet, and you should be okay.  If Ethernet needs to be run through the walls, your best choice is get it done ahead of time.  You can always call later and get the ONT's WAN port switched. The only routers available with a MoCA WAN port are the Verizon models.  The Verizon routers are good devices for most users.  People who like to tweak their networking gear don't like them as many advanced features are limited or locked down.  You can't run any other router firmware on them.  WiFi range is decent, but not great.  I'm quite happy with my Quantum router.  YMMV. If you get Ethernet WAN enabled, you can use any router you want.  However, know that Verizon provides zero support for any other router.  They won't even mention it as an option.  That doesn't mean you can't use one, simply that you must do so without Verizon's help. There are reports that they won't even complete an install without one of their routers to verify service.  If you don't use one of their routers, consider renting one for a month to complete the install or even buying a used one.  If you own a Verizon router, you can install it if you ever suspect Verizon networking issues.  This will allow you to call their support. This FAQ is very helpful:http://www.dslreports.com/faq/16077 Good Luck.

  • Setup problem - using 8520 as modem

    Hi,
I am following the instruction here to setup my device (unlucked Curve 8520, with AT&T)
    http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=KB05196
At task 2, step 7, I can not input any character in the Extra initialization commands field...
Can anyone give me some hind to proceed? Thank you so much!
Moreover, I followed another instruction and had another problem
    http://www.blackberryforums.com/blackberry-guides/2019-user-howto-use-blackberry-modem-laptop.html
At step 8, I check my "Standard Modem Properties"  - Diagnostics - Query Modem, and got something seemingly incorrect:
    AT+FCLASS=? COMMAND NOT SUPPORTED
    AT#CLS=?    COMMAND NOT SUPPORTED
    AT+GCI?    COMMAND NOT SUPPORTED
    AT+GCI=?   COMMAND NOT SUPPORTED
I feel the two issues are not dependent. Please help me resolve them. Thank you so much!

Which version of the Desktop Manager are you running? If you're running 5.0.1 can you try to use the IP Modem option to setup the modem?

    Welcome to the Apple community.
Only one of your libraries needs to use your iTunes Store Apple ID for home sharing. Your other computers can use their own ID for iTunes, so long as they use the same ID as all of the devices on the network for home sharing.

Numbers does not open with the main user after installing mountain lion. It works flawlessly when I use the second account on my mac. What got corrupted in the admin-account, something in the user-library? How can I fix it? I´m kinda desperate... (the same happens with the other iWork-Apps!)
Looking forward to hearing from somebody with a littlemore expertise than me, Chris

you can remove preferences files by navigating to the Preferences folder for your user as follows:
    0) Quit ALL iWork apps (Keynote, Pages and Numbers)
    1) from the Finder select the menu item "Go > Go To Folder…".  This will bring up a dialog:
    2) enter the path "~/Library/Preferences" (no double quotes)
    3) find the files:
    com.apple.iWork.Keynote.plist
    com.apple.iWork.Numbers.plist
    com.apple.iWork.Pages.plist
and move these to the trash.  I would NOT empty until later.
    4) restart Numbers

  • Using a second display

I just purchased a 15" Powerbook and have attached a 23" Cinema Display. I have several questions:
Is it possible to turn off the second display without physically detaching it from the PB?
Is it possible to turn off the PB screen and just use the second display? (I know about getting a second keyboard and keeping the PB closed.)
When I have the two displays in "mirror" mode, I am not getting a full screen on the second display when i use the highest resolution on the second display. Is there a way to correct this and still maintain the highest resolution on the second display?
    Thank you very much.

    Hi cerett --
I have to preface my responses by saying I don't have a second display attached to my PowerBook. That said, I think I can answer the first two of your three questions. Here goes:
    • Is it possible to turn off the second display without physically detaching it from the PB?
I think your 23" ACD has a power button, right? If so, why can't you just power down the ACD if you want to turn it off without physically detaching it from the PB.
Alternatively, and this also goes to my answer to your second question, you could turn down the brightness to the point where the screen is totally dark. Now, this doesn't seem like an ideal solution by any means, because you'd still have power running to the ACD for no reason, but it would seem to accomplish what you want anyway.
    • Is it possible to turn off the PB screen and just use the second display? (I know about getting a second keyboard and keeping the PB closed.)
You write that you already know how to use your PowerBook with the display closed. See: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86286 So, it sounds like you would like to leave your PB open, but just not have the display on. If so, it seems to me you could just decrease the brightness (using the F1 key or, of course, System Preferences > Displays > Display) to the maximum extent possible so that they display goes totally dark. May not be an ideal option (see above analysis), but it would seem that it should work for you.
Sorry, but I can't help with your third question. I'm not sure, but you might increase your chances of getting the information you need, if you reposted that third question in the Apple Cinema Displays forum, here -- http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=981 -- as the answer to this question may have more to do with the characteristics of the ACD than of the PB. I'd wait to see if someone comes along here first, and, if not, then repost there.
    Good luck.

  • Using a Second Display while MBP display is in Fullscreen use

I recently began using a second display consistently (something I only did sparingly in the past), and I was hoping to find out how to utilize my second display while running a fullscreen application on the MBP display (when in fullscreen, the second display is taken into fullscreen, but only with a solid black), and continue using everything else normally if situated on the second display.

Did you have a specific app or application in mind?

  • Using a second computer as a external midi instrument or DAW slave?

So this is my current setup:
    iMac 24(FW 800 & 400) with logic 8 & reason 4,
Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 firewire (x2) sound card/pre-amp,
Blackbook with MainStage & Reason 4.
& this is what I would like to do:
Use my imac as my main DAW master, (currently tracking to an external FW800 drive & pulling loops from a USB drive), & use my blackbook to run reason as a external midi device or slave.
My Saffire Pro 40 has 2xFW400 ports so I can connect both machines to it.
The idea behind this setup is to pull as many software sounds from the Blackbook & mainly use the imac to run Logic.
Does this make sense? & if so, what's the best way to execute this?
    thanks in advance

    Hello -
I'm not entirely sure that one audio device such as the Saffire Pro 40 with 2 Firewire ports can be shared between two computers. It was always my impression that the second Firewire port was available to "daisy chain" another audio device or hard drive. Before you proceed, you might want to check with the company that manufactures the Saffire Pro 40 and make sure that two computers can interphase with it.
With regards to using a second computer as a "slave machine", it seems that many, many people do have such configurations to help spread the CPU and memory work-load. My happy Mac Pro is set up to work with a potential of two other "slave machines". When I use this set up, it works wonderfully. But, for most of the time, my happy Mac Pro can manage most sequencing projects (mostly orchestral with LOTS of instruments) on its own. Each computer, however, has its own audio device. All are connected to the Mac Pro using the ADAT light inputs/outputs from each audio device (I use MOTU's audio devices) and are managed midi-wise using Music Lab's MOLCP 3.
    Good luck. . .
