Using a single computer and many apple ids/devices
i have a house full of apple users and we all use one computer
we all have our own apple ids and we are looking to use the computer for backup and general organization
is the easiest way to keep us all separate when it comes to using itunes just by setting up different user accounts on the one computer and having everyone sign in to their account whenever they want to plug in their device?

Yes. It's the only way.

I'm a school tech coordinator. I have many computers and many iPads. I apologize if there is a some place that has all the rules governing the use of Apple IDs. I looked, and I even tried to get the answers from multiple Apple rep's. I couldn't find the answers.
How many Apple IDs can I have per device?
I want to use the same computer to sync and backup many iOS devices. The iOS devices would be associated with different Apple IDs.
I may load apps under a school Apple ID and have users load their own apps under thier own ID.
How many devices can have the same Apple ID?
Can I use the same Apple ID on all the computers in a lab?
Can I use the same Apple ID on all iPads for a particular grade level?
Are the rules different for iOS devices and computers?
I know that there are limits on "authorize" and "de-authorize" and how frequently those things can be done.
Recently I heard that for the life of an iOS device, it can only be associated with five Apple IDs. That is not good for a school giving iPads to students in a 1:1
To make my life easier, I'd like 200 devices to all use the same Apple ID.iTunes Store Support

It would be best to address your questions there, especially since this is a public forum, and over there you could post more private issues with this set-up. Not to mention, getting more official answers. -
Over the course of many years I seem through using different computers to have several apple ids and three email addresses, this is causing problems with synchronising, I have an iPod, iPhone and ipad
Hi there
Sorry for hijacking your thread as put by Dahveed. However I have resolved my issue so I thought I'll share it with the rest of you.
I checked for the error 3194 in youtube and I found some good videos that tell you how to resolve the problem. The issue I was facing was the actually (I know because I have resolved it now) the communication between my computer and apple server which can be fixed as following (if you are using windows):
There is file in following directory:
C:\Windows/system32/drivers/etc/hosts
The file normally has no extension and it is in file format. You need to open it and make sure that every line that has apple server id starts with "#". In my case one of the line started directly with the ip address and then gs.apple.com.
Perform your restore/update after that and hopefully it should be resolved (mine did).

Problem downloading because I have 2 Apple IDs using a single computer
Hey guys,
I use a single Mac for 2 Apples IDs. So, I bought a movie a week ago in my Apple TV and now when I trting to download it to share with my other devices I got next error message
How can I fix the problem?
ThanksThe Apple Support Communities are an international user to user technical support forum. As a man from Mexico, Spanish is my native tongue. I do not speak English very well, however, I do write in English with the aid of the Mac OS X spelling and grammar checks. I also live in a culture perhaps very very different from your own. When offering advice in the ASC, my comments are not meant to be anything more than helpful and certainly not to be taken as insults.
Mac App Store and iTunes Store content can only be updated with the Apple ID that purchased it. So you Mac apps can only be updated with the old ID and your iOS apps can only be updated with the new ID.
As far as OS X, at this point you can purchase Mountain Lion with whichever of your IDs that you choose. You are not tied to using the ID that bought Snow Leopard. However, if you start mixing and matching, it will become confusing to you. I would stick to using the old one strictly for the Mac content and the new one for iTunes content. -
My sister and I each have an ipod touch. We use the same computer and itunes but each have our own apple id. Everytime I want to update an app on my ipod it asks for my sisters apple id login!? help!
When it asks for another ID on an App Update, it means that the application was purchased under your sister's ID but downloaded to your device from the iTunes library that you share. Even though you both have your own Apple IDs, since you are syncing on the same computer, you are using the same iTunes library.
Whoever purchased the app is forever tied to it, and you can only have one version of a particular app in a single library....
Does that make sense?
Cheers,

How can a digital copy be used in a household with multiple apple ids, synced on the same computer? I want to put a digital copy on my device, and on my wife's device.
Please help.you're welcome.
actually, unless you take an extra step, the first opened swf will close. if you want the 2nd to close, the initial receiving lc will send a message to sender that causes the sender to close. -
Well, I created a new Apple ID and I put money on it, I wanted to sign into ICloud and it wouldn't let me sign in due to making too many Apple IDs created. The point for logging into the ICloud was to save my photos before I reset my phone. Is there any way I could fix this? I also want to transfer my money because I think it's a waste to just forget about the $13.75 on my account. Thanks.
I recently created a new apple ID
Bad idea.
Content bought with an Apple ID is forever associated with that Apple ID. Apple will not transfer content from one Apple ID to another and Apple will not merge Apple IDs. Unless you are prepared to forfeit all the previously purchased content and buy it all again with the new Apple ID, you will need to maintain the old ID to update and redownload your content. -
i have a iphone 4s and its stuck at the apple logo to comes up then fades away and every time i try to restoring with iTunes it gives me a 4013 error i changed the charging port/dock and the battery ive also used a different computer and cable
See: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3694#USB
However, the most likely reason is your self-repair of a device that is only factory repairable broke something. Note that Apple does not sell replacement parts, so whatever parts you used were not made by Apple's supplier and are of questionable quality. -

I have a new Apple TV which is working fine except that I cannot access .mov files which are in my iTunes Library. How can I get to these? I can run them on my computer and select Apple TV on the screen, but the Apple TV goes to a black screen
Mov is a container format, you'd need to look at the codec used by the movie file inside the container to know whether it will work with the Apple TV or not.

Can two people with their own iPhones use the same computer and iTunes?
Can two people with their own iPhones use the same computer and iTunes?
Yes. My wife and I each have our own Apple ID and used the same computer to sync our phones with iTunes. The best way to do this is set up separate user accounts on the computer. If you are logged in to your account on the computer and your wife wants to sync here phone, you would log out and she would log in. These keeps all your stuff separate and avoids a ton of confusion.

I have two iphones using the same computer and I can only find a backup for my iphone and not my girlfriends. She uses itunes a lot more often then I do but cant find it. Really need some help. Shouldnt her apps and details be saved online in the itunes store? Even her apps wont appear
If you create an Apple ID for your daughter, signing out of the existing Apple ID with the iTunes & App Store on her iPhone will not change anything on your iPhone.
All apps include DRM protection which is tied to the Apple ID that was used to download the apps.
If she starts using her Apple ID to download apps, when there is an app update for an app on her iPhone that was downloaded with the current shared Apple ID, she will need to use that Apple ID and password to download the app updates. -
When i try to get to iCloud it states to many apple ids
I try to go to iCloud and it states I have to many apple ids.My new apple id lets me into iTunes.I also lost iPhoto HELP?
Tina ...
Creating new Apple ID's won't fix the iCloud issue. Content stored in one iCloud account cannot be accessed from another iCloud account. Your iCloud account is the same as your Apple ID.
You need to contact Apple directly > iCloud - Contact Support - Apple Support
