Using a slider to change line thickness

Hi,
This is a continuation of a project I have been posting over the last week.
My latest problem is trying to make a slider that changes the line thickness in a drawing app that I would to share with my students. When moved from left to right a circle changes scale. This circle would act as a visual reference on the stage telling the viewer that the line thickness is changing. Right now I just want to figure out how to connect the slider so that the circle changes dynamically. Once I get that I feel I can figure out how to connect it to lineStyle().
I hope I'm explaining this clearly.
The current code I am attaching has the circle change size at onle two points-the far left and far right.
I keep trying to write something that uses mouseX properties but so far nothing is working.
Thanks

Hi,
I appreciate the help and, yes, that pretty much looks like what I was going for.
Your solution looks clean!
The trick seems to be to connect the value change in that line to the drawing line which is mouseX and mouseY.
A couple of errors have me wondering if it is possible to change the lineStyle() dynamically. This is vector based and I think I might have to swtch over to a bitmap and use a Sprite, whichhas more of a chunky look tio it - based on a few previous attempts I made.
I switched gears today and tempoarily and made a lot of buttons that change the line thickness. A swf file is attached.
I will take your code and see if I can use it as a building block to change the line dynamically.
If I figuret it out I'll post it.
I also just ran into info on the Adobe website regarding the strokeObject, which is nowhere to be found in my reference manuals for AS3.I think the strokeObject allows you to make creative changes to a drawing line. So much to learn but hey that's what it's all about
Cheers

  • Changing Line Thickness on Grouped Objects?

So I'm changing my style of animation from hand-drawn art to the usage of things such as the line and pen tool, in Adobe Flash CS3. I am drawing characters that have segmented parts, I.E. the arms, legs, head. body, ect are all separate grouped objects with a set line thickness. The problem is that when I try to shrink or grow the character, the lines making up their body is either too thick or too thin, depending on whether I make him bigger or smaller. It seems that I am unable to change the line thickness of grouped objects, or dare I say it, a group of grouped objects. The properties panel greys out when I select an object, so I have no access to it at all. I dont want to have to go and change the line thickness individually on each object, whose lines are all the same thickness to begin with.
Is there any trick or plugin I can use to change this, so the line thickness of grouped objects can be changed? Or am I just ignorant with the answer just staring me in the face? Either way, I would REALLY appreciate the help any of you could provide!

Okay, so I seem to have found an even better solution to my problem than what I was hoping for. I can just convert the lines into fill by going to Modify > Shapes > Convert Lines to Fill. This makes it so the lines will now change in relative size depending on how much I shrink or grow an object.
Thanks for trying everyone, but I found my solution!

  • Changing line thickness in Adobe 10

    Hello,
I am trying to redesign these cupcakes. I am wondering how do I get the thinner endings of the lines that eventually become thicker as the line extends? You can see it on the frosting lines and smiles. I am using Illustator 10.
    Here is a picture

    idealpromotion,
You may use Art Brushes created as closed horizontal paths with a varying height equalling the desired thickness along hte length.
Then you may apply the Art Brushes to paths with a 1pt thickness.
The mouth Art Brush(es) would be rounded at the ends and thickest in the middle.
The leg Art Brush(es) would be quadrangles with one end segment longer than the other (a rather tall isosceles trapezium lying on its side).

  • PSE 8 brush strokes randomly change to heavy line thickness

I installed PSE 8 on a trial offer and when I use my Wacom stylus, the line thickness randomly changes to a heavy line.  I've cleared prefrences, and reloaded the Wacom drivers and messed with sensitivity.  Any suggestions?

    Hi,
PSE allows user to change various parameters by the Pen pressure of the Wacom Tablet.
While using Brush tool, You will find an arrow icon on the tool bar at the end, Opening it, you will find several parameters whicj can be controlled by Wacom tablet Pen pressure.  So while you are using brush with the Pen, the pressure you apply on the Wacom, increases the brush size.
In case you need to change the Opacity of the brush, you can set it from the options bar and continue using and do Wonders.
Try it. This is really good.
    Thanks,

  • How to increase line thickness in line charts?

    Hi,
I am using Crystal Reports 11.
I can change line thickness for only 4 series using "Format connector line" in the Design window. When the chart has more than 4 series, I can't change the thickness of lines except for the default 4 series.
I try using the other method to change the thinness of line, i.e.:
Got to the Preview window - click the line in chart - right click and go in Format Connector Line - change the thickness.
But, when I close the Preview window and re-open it again, I find that the situation is the same: line thickness is changed for only 4 series.
It looks like this way is effective just in computer memory.
Is this caused by the old version of CR?
If not, any approach to handle this problem?
    Thank you in advance.

    Thank you.
It is a group level chart.
I find "Apply Changes to All Charts" under Chart Menu, but after I made some changes on the chart, it is still grey and I could not use it.
    How to do?

  • How can I change the thickness of a line in a Picture object?

I want to change the thickness of the line in a Polar Plot. I can easy change the color but not the thickness of the line displaying the data. I have seen that the 'polar Plot' function use the 'Draw Line' function of the 'Picture Functions'. Do you have a solution? Thanks in advance.

    Hi Jean-Michel,
If you dig down a few levels from the top-level Polar Plot VI, you will find vi.lib\picture\polarplt.llb\Plot Polar Data.vi. Inside this VI is a VI called "Draw Multiple Lines.vi", which has a "pen" input. This input is currently not wired, so it defaults to a line style of "Solid", and a width of "1". If you take this input and propogate it all the way up to the top-level Polar Plot VI, you can now specify the line width and style of your polar plot.
I have submitted this as a suggestion, so perhaps we will see it in a future version of LabVIEW.

  • Line chart How can i change the thickness of the graph line ?

    Hello guys,
can i change the thickness of the graph line ?
    With kinds regards
    BlackC

I dunno, but some CSS properties are configurable in CSS as well as code. Others it would seem, can only be set with CSS. If you find a property that does what you are looking for, I suppose you could try using that to determine the code equivalent, if there is one.

  • Why do borders for some cells allow changes in line thickness, but other cells are locked in only one thickness?

It looks like you should be able to choose different line thickness for cell borders, but for some cells you can get three choices (0.5, 1, 2 pt), but in other cases you can only do 0.5?
I can't make a consistent thickness border around the outside of all my cells!

    VS,
Yes, I have lots of ideas. After all that work you probably don't want to hear them.
    1. I would use PDF versions of rotated text boxes, inserted into the cells as background Fill rather than floating the actual text boxes over the table.
    2. I would never merge a cell, or divide, a cell. Too many problems await you down the road if you do that. There are many ways in Numbers to avoid having to do those things. These are things we must do in Excel to get by, but we don't have to do them in Numbers.
    3. There is a Line Type called "Thin" that has only one size, and another line type shown as a heavier solid for which the weight can be adjusted. It's possible that you have some places where you need to change the line type.
I believe that your difficulty may come from the merging of cells causing some ambiguity as to which border needs to be selected to change the display. This would be a bug, because you should be able to just select the border and edit it, but your table may have become so complex that the program has lost track of things in the course of all your changes.
My suggestion is to print your table just as it is, for reference, and start over in a new document, not an imported one. Don't merge or split. Use multiple simple tables and the occasional text box for annotation. You will be on your way to doing things the "Numbers Way".

  • Changing horisontal line thickness in equations

    Hi,
Is there a way to change the horisontal line thickness for divisions in equations?
I tried doing it on the Reference page, thinking that "Single line" was perhaps used for the lines in divisions, but to not avail.

Mats, I was hoping that one of the FM math-using folks here might have an answer for you, but perhaps they're all at "summer math camp" right now <g>. <br /><br />Unfortunately I've never heard of it being possible to change the line thickness -- or any other display characteristic of equations, for that matter. <br /><br />If you didn't see this on the Framers list recently, Winfried Reng posted a link to a working search on a FrameUsers repository, here: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/<br /><br />Sheila

  • How to use the slider to avoid keyframes movements?

    Hi there,
first of all, I have to tell, I am not a English speaker, so please excuse me in advance. Anyway, I want to solve this particular issue: I have created an After effects project, where you can add into the composition your own text, logo or whatever... what the after effects project does is, that it turns your text, or logo into the 3D metal result. There is also camera cretaed, which moves from one position, to another. Take a look:
The inputed text is "add content" (I have 4 cameras alltogether, but I am showing an example just on the first one, so you will not see the whole text. The rest of the cameras are also in other compositions)
Here you can see the exact movement of the camera. However, if somebody inserts a logo or a text, which has for example 7 letters (in the next picture it is just "content") it will look like this:
here you can see how big space we have. Also it is not appropriate to change the original size of the text in the composition to achieve the smallest gap, as we can see here. The height will be huge then...
If I would edit it by myself, I would do this:
-I would clicked on the button "2 views" and choose view from the "front"
-Then I would select all the keyframes and after that i would go into the left window "front" and  using the mouse I would draged whole the camera to the position I want:
The great thing about this is, that as I selected all the keyframes and then set the red line on one of them, the camrea will work even for the beginning! So this is how it will look after the fix.
What the problem is, that after the small edit I want to send this project to few of my friends. Then they can easily put their text, or logo in. The text will have different height, width...it will be shorter or longer. I was just wondering, if you could help with some expressions, linkings and so on, so in the final result, of one my friends could move with the  whole camera (not just with one keyframe) using the SLIDER CONTROL. At least for the x and y axis, if z axis is also possible, it would be brilliant. It also doesn't matter how many sliders there will be .
So basically with using the sliders, they should achieve this:
So i need some helpful steps. Please help me. This is very important for me. I will be so much thankful!! Really! (Thanks for the potential help )

You are way over thinking your problem and potentially headed down a path that will cause more problems that it will solve.
If you have a camera path that is already animated and you want to change the position of the camera path as a whole the easiest way to do that would be to create a null and then parent the camera to the null. Move the null and all of the camera movements you have set up will follow. No expressions are needed. This is the easiest way to change every aspect of a motion path, rotate the entire path, scale the path, or move the path on any axis.
If you really want to use 3 position sliders to move existing keyframes to a new value adding value + expressions values will allow you to do this. Just add an three expression control sliders to the camera layer (or any layer like the null you are using as a parent) select the name of the slider in the ECW and press enter and rename it. Something like this will be the result.
Notice that I also have rotation and scale controls in this setup. Now that you have 3 sliders you can separate the position property of the null into individual values enable expressions in each property and type in value +, then use the pickwhip to drag from the X value to your slider named xPosition (in my example) and repeat for each operation. The value + will add the value of the slider to the current value of the position keyframes. The expression will look like this for X:
    value + effect("x position")("Slider")
If you want to use sliders I would use a null, add expression controls to the null for position, scale, and rotation, keep the camera position property unified and then use your expression control sliders on the null to modify your existing path. I would not suggest doing this directly on camera position with separated X, Y and Z values because this will change the shape of your camera path and would be more difficult to control. You'll probably also want to create a camera POInull and use this preset to tie the camera's point of interest to the null.
Here's an animation preset you can apply to a null that will give complete control to the motion path of any animated layer you make the child of this null. Search Animation Preset in the After Effects Search Help field if you do not know how to use them, create them, and save them.
As a final gimme, here's a CS6 project using this animation preset to control a null's position that used to change an animated camera path.

  • How do I change the thickness properties of underline in Adobe Reader XI.4?

I have been using the underline tool in Adobe Reader. Over the last couple of weeks the line has been thick - so easy to see. Today however I began using it and now it is a very narrow line. I have tried going into tool default properties but I only get the choice of changing colour or opacity. There is no option for choosing line thickness. I am not sure what else to do. It is most frustrating. HELP please.

    Hi,

Crystal has assigned default colors for  these 3 lines..but i want to assign my own colors..is this possible?
and can we adjust the line thickness?
I am using crystal 2008 complete edition.
And i am using formulae for the 'show value' fields..so the legend is showing '@' sign..how to get rid if this?
    Aprreciate any info...
    Thanks,

If you click on the lines themselves, it should highlight the specific line you clicked on.
Once the line is highlighted, right-click on the line and you should be able to "format the connector line" properties by changing the thickness, colour and type of line.
The same can be done for the titles of the chart, simply click on one of the titles, once it's highlighted you should be able to change the title names, font colour, font type etc.

  • Formating Line thickness for lines in graphs with more than 6 lines.

I have a line graph with more than 6 lines on it and I'm trying to make them all 1px.
I can specify a line thickness for the first 6 lines but after that, the lines go back to the default thickness.
Is it possible to change the default line thickness for a graph or format the line thickness for the 7th line and more?

Good news! I found out how to format more than 6 lines of data and it's really simple to do!
In the bottom left hand corner of the Format Chart Data, next to the Clear All button, is a button marked ADD.
If you click this button, another row is added allowing you to format the 7th line of data.
Click again and you get a row for the 8th line and keep clicking to add more lines.
I'm making a note of it here in case it is useful to someone out there who searches on this problem in the future.

  • 3d plot line thickness

How does one change the thickness of individual lines in 3DLine Plot? I am able to use 3D Graph Properties -> Plots -> Overlay to change the thickness of all lines, but can't figure out how to change individual lines. Is it even possible?

    Hello jmountney,
The overlay for a line can be set on a plot-by-plot basis, and you can do this either via the 3D Graph Properties window (right-click>>3D Graph Properties) or via property nodes.  There are a couple things to keep in mind:
    1) The overlay is assigned to a given plot index.  The best way to set up indices is in the 3D Graph Properties window.  The Plots tab will allow you to assign plot IDs and overlay styles for each index.
    2) You'll need to build each line you want to manipulate separately as its own plot.  This is done by specifying a Plot ID when using the create_plot_line function.  I would recommend pre-assigning Plot IDs for the range of plots you anticipate using in the 3D Graph Properies window.
    3) You can configure overlays dynamically (at runtime) via property nodes.  Set the plot index you want to modify using the Active Plot property, then change the overlay parameters.  Any changes you make will affect the current Active Plot.
    4) The plot ID is NOT equivalent to the plot index.  The plot ID is the number displayed in the 3D Graph Properties window and is the number you use when specifying a plot to add a vector to (This can be any positive or negative integer).  The plot index is the index of the plot ID array. If you specify a Plot ID that's not currently in use at runtime (wire an unused number to the create_plot_line function), it will create and occupy the next available plot index. This means that unless you assign plot IDs in sequence (0,1,2,3...) the Plot IDs will not match the plot indices.  Just something to keep in mind.
    Hope that helps!

  • IMAQ overlay Line Thickness

    Hi,
I have used IMAQ overlay to map two line onto an image. But I want to change the thickness of these lines and couldn't figure out any way. Help is appreciated.
    Regards.

It looks like IMAQ Overlay Line doesn't let you specify line thickness.  You might consider "tricking" it by overlaying two or more lines, displaced slightly from each other but close enough to merge into a slightly thicker line.  Note that if you do this, you need to think about the orientation of the line, as you'd want to displace your "sub-lines" at right angles to the original line orientation.  For example, if the original line was horizontal, you'd draw two sub-lines a little above and a little below the original line (a vertical displacement), and if the original line were vertical, you'd draw a little to the left and right (a horizontal displacement).
If you decide to go this route, you'll do yourself a BIG favor if you write the "Thick line" function as a sub-VI that looks a lot like IMAQ Overlay Line, but has an additional "thickness" parameter.  Hide all of the "messy details" inside this VI, including the calls to IMAQ Overlay Line.  This will keep your calling VI "focussed" on the task it is trying to do, without getting "irrelevant" Line-Thickness code popping up and occupying a lot of Block Diagram space.
