Using a template in InDesign

Question

Maybe this is very basic, but for some reason I can't figure out how to actually use a template. I laid out and saved one with the text in it. Is that the proper way, or am I supposed to remove dummy text first? If I do that, how will the template style apply?
If anyone could point out or explain how to place a document in a new template and have the template style apply automatically?

Why is it that you've become so argumentative lately?
Funny, the only time I remember arguing "lately" was once, and with you. So
are my knickers in a knot or yours?
I really don't think you read and think in your haste to post. You are
calling the kettle black. All I said originally was that your post didn't
sound like that much different a take. So why did you respond to argue that?
From that, I defended myself only by showing what you said about my posts
was not accurate. So why did you bother to respond to argue those points?
My next response simply highlighted that you quoted my comment with little
concern for the question it was answering. Again you respond with an
argument!
And look at what you say now:
I talked about mapping styles, which you did not
In post 3, I said: "If there are differences, you can map the styles, ..."
and I addressed the usefulness or lack thereof of dummy text
But the OP's question included "am I supposed to remove dummy text first?"
And my first response was "Whether you delete or replace content upon
importing is up to your workflow and how well your imported copy is styled
to match the ID template." The OP was using dummy text. And I constrained
the wording of my answer to the question.
Good grief man. In light of the errors you make about my comments, why
should I not respond?
Is noone allowed to add comments after you?
Considering your every response commented on my contribution to the thread
and my every response was more or less pointing out an omission on your part
and as such did not actually call for a response, just how the hell do you
have the gall to make such an uncalled for accusation?
What a difference it would have made had your first post just left out "I
have a slightly different take on templates." Regardless of what you say,
that statement implies you disagree with something I've said. If you do,
fine. But address it to me, not to the OP; have something better than the
pathetic excuses to disagree you have come up with here; and don't accuse me
of being argumentative for merely correcting what you say about my comments.
Face it Peter, you are the one being argumentative here.
