Using a tv remote to control hd dvr

I have a Hitachi HD Plasma TV and I want to use that remote as the remote for everything.  Can I program it to control my Motorola HD DVR?  If so, how do I do so and what is the two digit code?
Thanks for the help.

You would need to reference the manual that came with your TV and specifically the remote to see if it can be programmed to operate a DVR.   Does your remote have buttons for controlling a DVR or Receiver?

  • Presence status not changed when using Lync 2010 Remote Call Control

    Hello,
I'm currently testing the Remote Call Control functionality of Lync 2010. Call management works fine but I'm surprised that my presence status does not change to "In a Call" when the call is established.
OriginatedEvent, DeliveredEvent and EstablishedEvent are forwarded correctly to Lync Client 2010. All responses are "200 OK".
Is there something more to send to Lync Server 2010 so the status of the Lync Client gets correctly updated to "In a Call" ? Or is a plugin for the Lync Client necessary to achieve this ?
    Thank you in advance,
    Martin

I think there's something missing from your scenario and I don't believe you would need a plugin for this.  It's been forever since I've set up RCC with Lync 2010 however.  I know this isn't what you're looking for, but I've used this product in
the past to configure Lync and RCC with third party PBXs that don't support Lync/RCC but do have a TAPI interface.
http://www.estos.com/products/drivers-middleware/callcontrolgateway400.html I've been able to get a free trial before and it worked like a charm for an old 3COM phone system.  If you can get a trial it might help you compare apples to apples provided
you have a TAPI driver for your PBX.
For more details on what happens behind the scenes, you might have some better luck in the MSDN dev forums:

  • Can you use the apple remote to control tv programs?

Can you use the apple remote control like a tv remote to control tv programs & DVDs on the computer? Everything I've found about the Apple Remote talks about using it for products other than desktops. I watch some regular tv shows on my iMac & would like to be able to use a remote control.
    I have a built-in infrared receiver.
    Thanks!

You should be able to control DVD playback now with the Apple Remote. You may be able to get a bit of functionality with web sites by using Remote Buddy by using it as a virtual mouse and keyboard:
    http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/21872/remote-buddy
but you're not going to get anything close to the sort of functionality you'd get with a remote and a TV.

  • Is there a way to use the Tablet Remote to control a Sony Alpha DSLR Camera?

I own a Sony Tablet and love the ability to use it as a Remote Control.  I also own a Sony Alpha DSLR...yet I can't get the remote control to control the Camera.  Has anyone figured out how to do this yet?  It's a little large, but would be amazing if the camera had DLNA and could automatically publish a photo on the tablet right after I took the pick...with the Tablet remote!!!
    Thanks for any advice.

    Hello Damon,
What is the exact model # of Sony Alpha DSLR Camera?
You can try “Learning from remote” feature if your DSLR camera is remote control capable.
Refer the following link for instructions:
    http://www.kb.sony.com/selfservice/documentLink.do?externalId=C1023514
Camera should be DLNA server capable in order to access pictures from it using DLNA application in the tablet.

  • Pairing an ATV remote using a universal remote

I tried to ask this last week but maybe it was too confusing.
Can I pair an Apple TV remove using a universal remote. I've got two ATVs and would like to pair each remote then use a universal remote to control them individually.
    Think it will work?
    Thanks.

Hello - each Apple Remote issues unique commands by default. I won't go into the gory details, but if you looks at the Hex output of commands from two different remotes there are two digits that change as you issue the same command from different remotes.
By default the devices that use an Apple Remote accept codes from any remote (my guess is they ignore the unique hex codes). When you pair the remote you are telling the device to only listen to that specific remote by watching for the unique hex codes. Here is the thread from which I gleaned this info (I am not bright enough to figure this out on my own):
    http://www.remotecentral.com/cgi-bin/mboard/rc-prontong/thread.cgi?8154,1#1
I am researching using a Universal Remote, Inc. brand MX-900 remote to control my Apple TV. I can use the learned codes to control it no problem for the basic features. The only thing I can't get working is the "fast scroll" through the library lists - it must be the rate at which the Apple Remote issues repeat commands vs how quickly my remote does.

I am having a macbook pro with retina. How do I use an apple tv remote to control my mac?Is there a way. For eg. if I want to control the volume using the remote how do I do?

No, the iPad has no IR receiver. (I think you mean "Airplay" and not "Airdrop", by the way.)

  • Macbook air mid2012 can use the Remote Apple Control?

I want to know if a Macbook air mid2012 can work with the Remote Apple control. If so, how should I configure my macbook air to make it work?

No MacBook Airs can work with the Apple remote.  They do not have an IR sensor.
Apple are phasing the remote out.
If you have an iPhone, it can be set up to operate as a remote for your MBA.
There are 3rd party IR remote setups if having a remote is a must (say for training using Keynote).

  • Can you wake up your Mac remotely to control it from iPod using VNC app?

I have the VNC app that allows you to connect to your Mac or PC and control it from your iPod. Your iPod screen displays a miniature version of you computer and by using a selection of tools you are able to do everything on you Mac remotely. The problem is that when you go away or are away from your computer you don't want to have to leave it running continuously so the preferred option is to let it sleep and wake it up remotely when you need to access it. I tried calling Skype on my Mac from another computer but either just leaves a message or rings but doesn't bring the Mac out of sleep mode. This little VNC app is amazing and very useful only if I can get my Mac to wake up so I can connect to it. If not, great app but useless... at least for me.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Kev

How about using SSH to remote secure shell into your Mac? That might wake it up.
Touchterm is the touch app to use for ssh.

  • How do I use ios remote to control volume on my imac

I used to be able to control the volume when using my imac to play itunes through an airport to remote speakers using the ios remote app. Is there a workaround to get the volume control back so I can sit on my patio w/my iphone and change the volume?

You just need to slide the volume slider in the Apple Remote, but will need to be connected to your wireless network.

  • HT1947 "Up next" feature makes a mess out of controlling what the heck is played using the iOS remote app.

Tell me if I am wrong, but it seems to me that the "Up next" feature makes a mess out of controlling what the heck is played through the Apple TV using the iOS remote app.  The whole thing seem uber-anti-intuitive.  I am a long time user (as much and anyone is long time for any of this stuff) of the iOS remote app, and ATV to play music though a stereo system.  Up to a couple of weeks ago, I could sit in my chair, start the iPhone remote app, pick a playlist and either start from the beginning, or if the first track didn't grab me at that moment, go ahead and switch to, say, track 6 -- the whole playlist would "sit there" and be available for further browsing.  With the new system, if I hit a playlist the songs will go into "Up Next".  If as I described in the last sentence, the first song is not getting it for me, and I switch to track 6 , the "Up Next" list is lopped off and only tracks 7 onward will be shown.  I can't go back and browse the first 5 tracks (6 actually) -- they're vaporized.  The idea of browsing your own music has been killed; I guess this "Up Next" concept is for folks who like maybe a couple of dozen songs that are picked from different places and want to play them in different orders of something -- it just seems like a crummy idea.  If under the scenario I described I want to go back and play that first (or second through fifth) song on the original playlist, I have to go out and fish it out of the library somehow and just keep messing around and around.  There have been times when I didn't know what the heck was going to come out of the speakers.  It seems like the remote user has not been considered in the "dramatically improved" iTunes 11", with the "cleaner user interface" .  To me it is "dramatically akin to dog-doo", which, of course is not cleaner than much of anything.  If I can't get this working decently, then I'm really thinking of investigating some other type of system like DLNA.  Any suggestions?

Same problem here.  I have so many problems with this remote app.  Is there an iTunes API? I would like to write my own remote app that actually works.

  • I can't connect to my iTunes library on my Macbook Pro using the Apple Remote app on my iPhone 4S. Why?

    Hi all,
I've been looking through the forums for help with this problem. There are a couple of threads with similar problems, but no solved threads and the discussion doesn't seem to go anywhere... As far as I can tell, it's been causing a lot of annoyance for many users, including myself, but it looks like the community's in the dark about why it's happening!
I'm trying to connect to my iTunes library using the Apple Remote app on my new iPhone 4S. As you may know, there are two ways to do this:
Connect via Home Sharing by setting up Home Sharing on both iTunes and the iPhone, or
Connecting directly to iTunes using a four digit passcode.
I've tried both methods, and neither work!
Here's what happens for each method:
From the Remote app start screen, I tap the "Turn on Home Sharing" button. I enter my Apple ID details (which are definitely correct), and get a confirmation message on my phone saying "Home Sharing is on using [my email address]. To control iTunes: Choose Turn On Home Sharing from the Advanced menu in iTunes on your computer." I then go to iTunes, turn on Home Sharing, enter my Apple ID again and get a confirmation message saying "Home Sharing is now on", etc. However, there's no connection formed between my iPhone and my Macbook Pro - the Remote app just shows a message saying "Turn on Home Sharing in iTunes on your computer or on Apple TV using the account [my email address].
From the Remote app start screen, I tap "Add an iTunes Library", and the four digit passcode is shown on my phone. I select the new "Quintin's iPhone" item that appears in the iTunes sidebar under "Devices", and enter the passcode on the screen that appears. Once I've entered it, I get a confirmation message saying "Your Remote is now able to control iTunes" with an "Okay" button. Clicking the "Okay" button makes the screen and the sidebar item disappear completely. On my phone, a message that says "Looking for ..." is shown on the screen with a spinning loading wheel, but nothing happens. After a minute or two, it stops and simply says "Could not find".
After trying both methods, I went through all of the troubleshooting steps here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1741 . Absolutely no effect.
I should mention that I was experiencing similar problems on my old iPhone 3Gs with an older version of iTunes. I thought it might have been some kind of hardware fault and expected it to clear up once I got the new phone, but the problem is still there. It's a new phone, a new computer, a newer version an iTunes... even a different network I'm trying to connect to it on. Bizarre!
I've even tried using the Mobile Air Mouse remote application instead. However again, the Mobile Air Mouse app on my phone can't pick up the Mobile Air Mouse server on my Mac.
I'm kind of at the end of my rope here. Anyone?

I have the exact same problem trying to use the Remote app on both my iPhone 3gs and iPad 2 with either my Mac or ATV2.  My Remote app used to work on my phone - I can't recall if I ever actually used it with my iPad, but when I tried today, I got all the same results as you did (on both iPad, and then iPhone).  I  was using my ATV2 to play music from iTunes on my Mac and wanted to use the Remote app, but it would not connect to either device no matter what I did.

  • Apple TV Remote hidden controls

Are these controls legit? While in know some of these are simple and work on the device without much risk, I don't want to blow my device trying out unknown/new control.
    Restart Your Apple TV
p><span>This is my favorite tip on this list because I frequently find myself navigating into the Apple TV’s layered Settings screens to restart the device whenever it gets <a href="/glossary/wi-fi" title="Wi-Fi is a way of wirelessly connecting to the internet over a broadband connection." class="lexicon-term">Wi-Fi</a> issues. Well, no more! Simply press and hold the DOWN and MENU button at the same time for six seconds to restart your Apple TV.</span></p>
    h3 dir="ltr"><strong>Sleep Your Apple TV</strong></h3>
p><span>You can also quickly put your Apple TV to sleep using the remote. Usually it goes to sleep at after a predetermined amount of time passes. To make that happen sooner hold the PLAY/PAUSE for five seconds.</span></p>
    h3 dir="ltr"><strong>Get To Home Screen Instantly</strong></h3>
p><span>Sometimes you can be knee deep in submenus on the Apple TV, especially when using some third-party channels. The good news is you don’t need to back out of each sub-menu step by step. Simply press and hold the MENU button on the Apple TV remote for three seconds and you’ll be taken to the Home screen right away.</span></p>
    h3 dir="ltr"><strong>Arrange / Hide Channels</strong></h3>
p><span>For the longest time the layout of the Home screen was fixed, but then in a software update last year Apple finally added the ability for the user to rearrange and hide channels. This no doubt came in response to the increased availability of third-party channels on the Apple TV--some of which a user may never have an interest in viewing.</span></p>
p>To rearrange channels simply hold down the SELECT button for two seconds. The channel icons will jiggle. Use the DIRECTION arrows to move the selected channel. Or press the PLAY/PAUSE button to hide an channel.</p>
    h3 dir="ltr"><strong>Rewind / Fast Forward At Different Intervals</strong></h3>
p>Everyone knows you can use the left and right direction pad to skip backwards and forwards, but you can actually use the same left and right buttons on the direction pad to rewind and fast forward at different intervals. Hold the LEFT button to rewind 30 seconds. Press the LEFT button to rewind continuously. Alternate your rewind speeds further by pressing LEFT once each time to cycle through slow, medium, or fast rewind.</p>
p><span>The opposite applies to fast forwarding as well. Hold the RIGHT button to fast forward 30 seconds. Press the RIGHT button to fast forward continuously. Alternate your fast forward speeds further by pressing RIGHT once each time to cycle through slow, medium, or fast fast forward.</span></p>
    h3 dir="ltr"><strong>Go Slow-Mo</strong></h3>
p><span>This one is really cool. You can rewind or fast forward through video in slow motion on the Apple TV. To do this simply press the PAUSE button then press the LEFT or RIGHT button to rewind or fast forward in slow motion.</span></p>
    h3 dir="ltr"><strong>View Video Settings</strong></h3>
p><span>Sometimes you might want to adjust audio or other settings for a video that is already playing. You can use the Apple TV remote to quickly do this by pressing and holding the SELECT button for three seconds while the video is play. This will bring up the video’s settings including subtitles, speaker settings, audio, and closed captions.</span></p>
    h3 dir="ltr"><strong>Mark Episodes As Watched</strong></h3>
p><span>Many times we have full TV series we’ve bought via the iTunes Store that we watch on the Apple TV. However most of the time we’ve already seen some of the episodes in each season. This tip allows you to use the Apple TV remote to mark episodes as already watched. To do this you need to be in the iTunes TV Shows channel on the Apple TV. Select the episode you want to mark as watched and then press and hold the SELECT button. You can also mark entire seasons as watched by selecting the season and then pressing and holding the SELECT button as well.</span></p>
    h3 dir="ltr"><strong>Pair / Unpair Apple TV Remote</strong></h3>
p><span>If you’ve got lots of Apple TV’s in your house you may have some remote conflicts. The good thing is you can quickly pair and unpair remotes simply by using...the remote. To pair a remote to an Apple TV press and hold the RIGHT and MENU buttons for five seconds. To unpair a remote from an Apple TV press and hold the LEFT and MENU buttons for five seconds.</span></p>
    h3 dir="ltr"><strong>Switch On-Screen Keyboards</strong></h3>
p><span>Using the on-screen keyboard is one of the chores of navigating the Apple TV. You’ll use this keyboard whenever you need to enter login information (say, for Netflix) or when you are searching for a show. Thankfully the Apple TV remote has these hidden controls to make using the keyboards easier.</span></p>
p><span>Press PLAY/PAUSE when entering text to switch between the alpha, numeric, and symbol keyboards. You can also hold down the SELECT button for two seconds to bring up the accented characters and then press PLAY/PAUSE to select the one you want.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
If you don't want to use a remote with your computer the easiest thing to do is just to turn the IR off. (System_Preferences/Security/General)
If you still want to use your computer remote then you must pair your computers remote with the computer AND the Apple TV remote with the Apple TV.
To pair a remote with a device hold down the menu and FF buttons together for six seconds or until you see a chain icon on screen (best take the computer into another room, or turn it off, when you do this)

  • Using Samsung TV remote for FiOS?

Is this possible with correct settings, or am I limited to FiOS remote?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

If your Samsung remote has a setting for CABLE BOX then it is possible you will get LIMITED control over the STB (try Motorola or Genreal Instruments [prior incarnation of Moto STB group]).  If it is a DVR, most other brand remotes won't control the DVR functions.
