USing a video iPod as a HD.

Is it posibly to use a iPod as a hard drive or a flash drive?
  Windows XP

Hello, welcome to discussions.
Yes, just Enable Disk Mode. This will allow you to use your 5th Gen iPod as an external hard drive.
EDIT: Just an additional note. On the 5th Gen iPod, this will only work with a USB connection. You cannot use a 5th Gen iPod as an external hard drive via a Firewire connection.

  • Using the video iPod with the Bose SoundDock

I just purchased the new video iPod and Bose SoundDock, I noticed that I can't fast forward through MP3s when using the SoundDock remote, anyone else notice this? Downloaded the latest updates from Apple's website, didn't help...

    Hey,
I had exactly the same problem and updated both my iTunes software and my iPod Software (downloaded the latest iPod updater) and the problem has been fixed. My iPod video is now running software version 1.1 and I can fasst forward and rewind using the Bose remote with no problems now!
I loved the SoundDock before, but now it just feels all that more complete. Hope it helps.

"so can any one tell me if it is possible to use my viedo iPod as a memory flash"
Yes you can. The 5th Generation iPod doesn't have a flash drive but you can store files on it's hard drive just like any other external hard drive device.

  • Help with using my Video Ipod on different Itunes

I upgraded to Itunes 7 and using my ipod on the different logins seemed a breeze. I use my laptop on my home network as well as my work network. The "home" login has my library. From work, I could attach my ipod and listen to it but for the last week, from the work log in- it tells me I need to RESTORE my ipod. But when I log in (even at work but to my "home user") it recognizes my Ipod and plays. Any ideas?
    to summarize:
    1 laptop, 2 user logins
original user login recognizes my ipod no problem
work login (onto a network) used to work but now, no longer recognizes my ipod and tells me to restore.
    thanks!

okay, it's probably worth checking on the possibility (at work) described in the following document. (it can produce that "relentless recovery mode message" symptom.)
Windows confuses iPod with network drive or hard drive and may keep iPod from mounting or songs may seem to disappear

  • HELP: Using my video iPod with iTrip/Mac OXS 10.3.9

I just bought the new iPod and one of the main reasons i bought it was so that i could listen to music in my car. I bought iTrip along with the iPod but it isn't compatible. Someone suggested that i could use a cassette tape adapter but i dont have a tape player in my car... just CD. Is there any i can play the songs from my iPod in my car? if so what do i need to buy.
Also, everytime i try to buy a TV show or Podcast from iTunes, it tells me that i need 10.3.9 but i only have version 10.3.5. What do i need to do about that?
Please help me if you can. Thanks!

  • Radio Receiver from Apple Used on Video iPod-Results

    Hello all:
I recently purchased an iPod Radio Receiver from Apple. This is a cord with receiver clip and remote that can turn your iPod Video into an FM radio.
It replaced an old Sony Sport armband walkman.
I am so amazed by the improved performance, I had to post and let folks know that the quality of the reception is so much better over the Sony.  I live in San Francisco and take (ug!) public transportation to and from work.  I have significantly less static and interference with the new adapter and at times it seems like digital radio.
Black would be nice to match my iPod, but the improved performance is worth every penny and outweighs any negatives.  If you are on the fence about it, or have been curious about the quality, don't wait another minute.

This feature is not available on the 60GB 5th gen iPod.
You need a 'Late 2006' model 5th Gen iPod for the search feature.
All 60GB 5th Gen iPods are not Late 2006 models.

  • Video iPod has now crashed twice

I've been using my video iPod for just under two weeks now, and it has frozen on me twice. The first time, it froze when I docked it with iTunes, and today it froze when I went to start a video. In the first instance, I couldn't do anything with it until the battery ran out and it shut itself off. Right now, I am waiting for the same thing as the screen just shows a tiny strip of the video clip.
One more thing... often I cannot shut off my iPod after having watched a video. I have to play a song first before I can shut the machine off.
Have other people experienced these problems with their video ipods? My mini has never been this much trouble.

Reset your iPod when it gets stuck by pressing Menu and Center until the Apple logo appears.
Yes, others and I have the problem of the iPod not going to sleep after watching a video. It's a bug Apple will fix sometime next year or the year after.

  • Video IPod & IPod Nano won't work on Vista 64-bit system

I recently updated my OS to Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit system on my Intel Pentium Core 2 Quad PC. Somehow, I have a problem using my Video Ipod & Ipod Nano. After downloading the latest Itune+Quicktime & plugging in the USB cord connecting my IPods, i got this blue screen & different error message. When I reboot my PC, it won't run my OS unless I unplugged my Ipods. I tried istalling the old IPod software that comes with the IPod without any luck. Any idea on what's causing this problem? Are there any patch for Vista 64-bit that make the OS work with IPod?

    Hi,
I’ve got the new version of Itunes (7.6.1) but I still get the error where it tells me to download and install a 64-bit version of Itunes. This is just ridiculous!!! I bought my IPOD touch before Christmas and i still haven’t been able to use it!
I've uninstalled and installed itunes and all that rubbish about 5-6 times now, i've deleted everything to do with Apple from my machine and also nearly killed my machine because i messed around with the registry (that's my fault :P)
NOTE: I used IE 64-bit version to download the installer.
Anyone have a solution to the problem?

  • IPhone vs. Video iPod battery life & sound

For those that have used both, which will play video the longest - iPhone or Video iPod?
Also, which is loudest? I use the Video iPod on flights with noise cancelling earphones but find it is still not loud enough. Would the iPhone be louder in this case?
    Thanks,
    Brett

Patience my friend! And welcome to Apple Discussions!
Anyway, sounds like your connecting your iPod to your computer.
Does your iPod show up in iTunes? If so, eject the iPod from iTunes and the Do Not Disconnect screen should go away.

  • Video iPod setting preferences, updating of videos

I have a 5th Gen. Video iPod which works very well but I'm a bit confused about using it with two computers and having downloads from Music Store coming into one or the other one. Plus under the Preferences area, Videos, it is checked 'Do not update videos' but it is greyed out so I can't even select auto update or manual =
    1. is the Videos choices greyed out because they're automatically set because this is a video ipod? it doesn't seem to let me choose whether to update or not
    2. I have a G5 and a 12" Powerbook and this iPod. Sometimes I'm finding things at the Music Store, including videos, on my G5, but I use the video iPod with the Powerbook. I've set up Music, Podcasts and Photos for manual updates. But what about Videos? I don't see a way to set that up and am concerned I'll download videos to the G5 but then not be able to move them to the video iPod, or the 12" PB which is my main video computer.
    Thanks.

You have a good suggestion ....so, because I set up
ViPod to get music and podcasts manually that will
control the video selections? I'll check out your
    explanation...seems logical. Much thanks.
Right. If you set your iPod to automatically update music, it will automatically update videos. However, as you use two different computers, that may not work for you.

  • Recording live music with video iPod...

I tried using my video iPod to record a live music show and was very disappointed with the results. I purchased a MicroMemo digital audio recorder and used a set of stealth mics I've used for years with my portable MiniDisc recorder.
The iPod doesn't allow you to set recording levels and I think that was the problem. The recording was WAY oversaturated and virtually unlistenable. I tried using Audacity to edit the file, but I was unable to fix the oversaturated recording.
Can anyone advise me? Thanks in advance!

    Hi Bill,
I've used plugins in apps such as Pro Tools plugins to clean up
recordings of lectures. Other good audio software
that allow you to filter a sound file include Cubase
    , MacFOH ,
    SoX .
Thanks for the suggestion, Ed, but my recording is SO oversaturated that it can't be salvaged by anything. When you look at the recording in any sound editor, the top is severely clipped. You can't do anything to restore what isn't there to begin with, and that's the top of the waveform.
    Here's
a list of other open source audio projects at
    GNU.
    Nice list! Thanks for that!!!
    Good luck!
    Ed
I did get some help from XTremeMac's tech support. Sharon Rivera from that company wrote this:
] The way to get true sound is through the line in setting with an
    ] external powered source.
It turns out the battery box (9V) on my Core Sound stealth mics means my mics are powered by an external source. All I have to do next time is use the "line" setting instead of the "mic" setting on the MicroMemo.
    Thanks for your suggestions!

  • My classic video ipod won't switch back to regular video mode after using it on an elliptical. The port still allows me to charge and works on the elliptical and treadmill but it will no longer change modes to allow me to watch my shows on the ipod screen

My classic video ipod won't switch back to regular video mode after using it on an elliptical. The port still allows me to charge and works on the elliptical and treadmill but it will no longer change modes to allow me to watch my shows on the ipod screen

From the iPod's Main Menu choose Videos -> Settings and make sure TV Out is set to Off.
Otherwise, try a hard reset as well.  To do this, press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

  • Everytime I try to use the video camera, my ipod automatically restarts???

Everytime I try to use the video camera, my ipod automatically restarts. I just need to bring the clicker to the Video section on the main menu for it to turn on and off again. I have to scroll over it really fast so it doesn't restart. My dad bought it a few months ago and I just opened it about a week ago. So far, I've synced it once, taken it out out without first ejecting it, and using it on a lamp iHome. Should restoring the ipod do the trick? Is this a common issue with the rest of you?

Try #2 and #3 in link below. If neither work, you most likely have a hardware issue.

  • I would like to use a second Video iPod on 1 computer / will it work?

I have a video iPod and would like to buy one for my wife, Will they both work on 1 computer?

Yes, they will. You'll just simply need to get them set up properly in the beginning, and it should do fine afterward.
There are basically two methods for managing multiple iPods on one computer, see here:
Method 1 - Create different Windows users accounts for each iPod on this computer.
Method 2 - Create a playlist in iTunes for each iPod.
To make Method 2 work, connect one of your iPods, and click on it in the left-source panel.
Under the "Music" tab, and set your option for a specific playlist(s) under the "Sync Music" option.
Do the same with your other iPod; not connected at the same time as the other one, though, as this could potentially cause problems.
For more details on this matter, check out Apple's Support article about it:

I hope that info helps you.

  • Conver videos for use with my iPod 30g.

My videos loose their sound when they convert for use in my iPod. What am I doing wrong?
Dell Optiplex SX260   Windows XP Pro

Quicktime, Quicktime Pro and iTunes don't convert "muxed" ( muxed means multiplexed where the audio and video are stored on the same track) video files properly. It only plays the video and not the audio.
See:iPod plays video but not audio.
You need a 3rd party converter to convert the file with both audio and video.
See this for help: Guide to converting video for iPod (Mac/Windows).
